Mason Buchanan was gorgeous, brilliant, strong, and a bit of a sociopath. Being raised by a tyrannical father and neglectful mother, Mason failed to learn the things that made us all humans...compassion, sympathy, and understanding. All his life, he's had only three people he's ever gave a damn about; his brothers, Aiden, Gabriel, and Michael. But then his freshman year at college his eyes collided with a short, hazel-eyed brunette, and his world was changed forever. Three years later, he's forced to finally show his hand, and nothing was going to stop him from making Shane Slaughter his.
Shane Slaughter was raised in foster care, so when she was accepted into one of the most prestigious colleges in the country, she vowed to spend every waking moment studying hard, and making her dreams come true. Never wanting to be homeless again, Shane's only goal was to get her degree and land a good supporting job. Blaineview was everything she had expected it to be, except for one thing; Mason Buchanan. She'll never forget the first time she saw him, and she'll never forget the way he had made her feel. The way he still makes her feel.
What happens when Mason's told he can't have Shane? Everything...everything happens.
There's not much to add to my bio, I'm pretty boring...LOL. My favorite thing is to read and, last year, I decided to trade in some of those reading hours and try my hand at writing. The experience has been one of the best things I could have ever embarked upon. It's turned into a hobby that is fun and thoroughly enjoyable. When I'm not reading or writing, I'm spending time with my family or friends.
OMG!!!! ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHOR ALWAYS MAKES A GOOD BOOK JUST ARGH 👍🏼👍🏼😍👏🏼
OTT POSSESSIVE PROTECTIVE ALPHA MALE!!!! I’m in love 😭😭😭
Their story is quick safe love story. I loved it so much!
•DRAMA with OW but the ow only jealous and only said view words to her when the hero’s brother defends the heroine and just that. DRAMA WITH OM! The OM likes the heroine since the beginning and once he saw her at the party he just went too close to her. THE OM AND THE HERO GOT INTO A FIGHT ABOUT THE HEROINE and the heroine stops the hero in a very sweet way :’) DRAMA WITH THE HERO’S FATHER but not too annoying. All the drama on this book for me it’s safe and not too annoying.
•NO CHEATING
•NO VIOLENCE
•THE HERO HAVE BEEN CELIBATE for years to wait on the heroine because he felt the heroine was the one for him. the hero is not a virgin but he also never mention his past partners.
•HEROINE IS A VIRGIN
•ITS A LOVE STORY WHEN BOTH COUPLES FELT ELECTRICITY WHEN THEY SAW EACH OTHER AND felt that is one for them! So sweet
•CUTE AND STRONG BROTHERS on this story that I cannot wait to read more about it! I love that the brothers are very close and talked more on this book. THE BROTHERS OF THE HERO’S REALLY LIKES AND DEFEND THE HEROINE even at first when the heroine was confused about everything.
•THE HEROINE was confused about the hero because the hero decided to stake his claim by surprise on her all the sudden because some good reason.
•THE HEROINE PUSH THE HERO AWAY when she was caught in a family misunderstanding drama. Only for view weeks and BOTH ARE VERY LOYAL AND NEVER WITH ANYONE.
°Virgin heroine °Hero's sexual past - he said that when he needs his dick wet he drives to the city and hooks up with someone he'll never see again °It wasn't confirmed that he was celibate after meeting the heroine because he never really mentioned when's the last time he had sex but some comments he made in this book and in book 2 made me believe that he was celibate °Switching POVs °Possessive jealous obsessed OTT alpha hero °Both MCs are 22 y/o °It took him 3 years to make his move - he didn't pursue her sooner because he was trying to protect her from his asshole father and he also wanted to secure a future for them °OW drama - a couple girls tried to flirt with him but he was not interested, one of those girls called the heroine a whore among other things in front of everyone but one of the hero's brothers put her in her place °OM drama - the heroine was at a party with her friend when this OM asked her to dance, when the hero saw the OM put his hands on her hips he couldn't control his rage, he beat the OM up and told everyone that she was his girlfriend (this is what forced him to confess his feelings to the heroine sooner than he had planned). The same OM tried to rape the heroine later in the story, he beat her and touched her but the police came before he could rape her °No cheating °1 week separation - both faithful °Pushing away from the heroine °Intimate scenes only between hero and heroine °Epilogue: 2 years later

4 Stars! I’m pleasantly surprised that this didn’t read like a novella, which technically it is. I left this story feeling, for the most part, satisfied. But I would’ve loved for there to be a longer epilogue. Mason and Shane deserved all the happiness they could give each other!
Shane is rich, attending college, under, for the most part, his fathers thumb. He sees Shane Slaughter and immediately falls in love. But he has to plan out how he’ll handle that because he father is so controlling.
Shane is the college scholarship kid. Having grown up in foster care, she earned her way into college, but couldn’t pay the hefty price. Enter the scholarship program. She’ll get to attend school for free, but has to pay for her own apartment and living expenses. Going to the private college, Shane kinda sticks out being one of three charity cases, but she manages to keep herself invisible with her busy work schedule and classes. That is, until Mason Buchanan let’s a house party of students know that Shane Slaughter is his.
As the oldest Buchanan son, Mason has always played by the rules. But the rules don’t apply where Shane is concerned, and he’s willing to give up everything to gain her trust and prove to her that she’s finally not alone, and has a family in him and his 3 amazing brothers.
I enjoyed this start to the series. Mason was ott j/p, and I loved it! There’s nothing like a hero that knows exactly who he wants and is willing to do anything to have her. I’m looking forward to continuing on with the series because I loved the Buchanan boys just as much as I loved Mason and Shane’s story!
Took a break from a omegaverse book since I was in the mood for an OTT caveman and this book delivered. From the moment Mason lays eyes on Shane during freshman year, he's obsessed. But family drama makes him hold back from claiming her until Shane had the gall to attend a party her junior year, looking to lose her virginity. As Mason has issues with emotions, Shane always assumed he hated her. The constant glaring didn't help lol. Mason loses control when another guy hits on Shane and stakes his claim in front of party goers.
I'm honestly not sure why I enjoyed this story as much as I did. The writing needed more polishing and relationships more fleshing out. Wanted more scenes with Shane and Viola's friendship. Plot was a bit too fast-pace. The bits with women throwing themselves at Mason was eye-rolling. Shane immediately believing Mason's confession after 3 years of hostility. But I loved the close relationship Mason had with his brothers and that they were willing to protect Shane from him if they had to. Loved Aiden calling Shane his sister. Mason's dirty talk was hawt and their scenes together were steamy. Shane growing up in foster care made me root for her HEA. I admired how focused and hardworking she was. Girl was going to get her degree and nothing would stop her from climbing out of poverty. Epilogue could've been better though. I saw each brother gets his own book. Will definitely read them.
Romance trope: new adult Series: Buchanan Brothers Length: 121 pages
Plot: Mason and Shane are both students at a prestigious university, but Shane is a scholarship student struggling after getting out of foster care and
Commentary: She's so unremarkable, with her full lips, glossy, wavy hair, bright eyes, tight body, beautiful complexion, and perfect eyebrows. Who even likes someone who looks like that? Stop playing guys, she knows she's plain-looking.
"Camille was the picture perfect of an exotic Asian" - I always imagine people in Asia talking about "exotic Americans."
I'm not a fan of heroine names that are completely unisex or masculine - I spent the whole book reminding myself that Shane is the heroine.
This wasn't bad, but I did feel like it was all too much, too fast, too over-the-top. I don't mind insta-love, but this had a bully tinge that I didn't really like. It's me, not you.
Grammar/formatting: needed one more pass with proofreader
Trust M.E. Clayton to bring me out of a book slump. I lohoove her heroes. They are just so unhinged and territorial!
🔶 college romance 🔶 rich/poor 🔶 awesome brothers who are a tight group 🔶 virgin h 🔶 H waits for h 3y (celibate) 🔶 both 22y old 🔶 no condoms used / h is on birth control 🔶 rough sex 🔶 hot smexy times 🔶 low angst 🔶 no cheating 🔶 om drama- in a party om dances and puts his arms around h 🔶 ow drama- well, just super catty biaches 🔶triggers: attempted rape and physical assault 🔶 HEA with 2y later Epilogue
The plot didn't work for me, and I really disliked the H. The heroine had pushed herself her whole life, and her actions about attending the party just didn't fit with my view of her. The H made a mistake, but what really didn't work was the dynamic with his brothers. While I love the author, I didn't like this book.
Tropes : misunderstanding, college romance, rich guy x poor girl, possessive H, touch her and ☠️, obsessive H, foster kid Ending : HFN (married) Triggers : attempted SA, violence, abuse Spice : 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 Angst : 🔥🔥🔥/5 OM/OW drama : OM (bad guy) Celibate while separated: no (I don’t think so) Intimacy details: virgin h, oral, rough sex, no condom (h had regular BC shots), slight breeding kink Standalone/Series : part of a series but can be read as a standalone
The only thing I disliked about this book was the part where the H was a bit of a coward when he was faced with his dad. I mean I get it, the dad was this big shot with money and could do some serious damage towards the h’s future but I would love him to be like ‘fuck you’re to his dad.
The fact that all Buchanan siblings became possessive towards the h was a bit absurd. Especially the twins since they barely knew her, I guess their bro code/link was super tight to the point of them sort of adopting her as their sis lmao.
Nonetheless I enjoyed this. If you’re in the mood for an alpha H and want a quick read, this would be for you.

I am on a binge with this author lately she is amazing. She write over the top alpha heroes that are 100% loyal to the woman they love. Some authors just don’t know how to do that these days.
Ever since I discovered this author I can’t get enough so when this was released I needed it ASAP as I knew I would love it and I was not wrong cannot wait to read the rest of the series’s
MASON and SHANE M.E. Clayton is one of my favorite authors and she does not disappoint. This book is *chef’s kiss* I loved Mason and Shane, but the Buchanan brothers are not far behind.
The author has managed to create intrigue and interest in all the characters, not just the main lead, which has me looking forward to this series a lot! Each brother brings something to the table, something special and something psychotic and unhinged.
Mason is gorgeous, sexy, so alpha, so OTT, so arrogant and crazy. The Buchanan family is one of the richest family with the biggest name, but essentially, the brothers are still under their father’s purse strings until they graduate. A greedy, cruel, abusive, neglectful father who holds the reins to the future for just a few more months, and will use anyone and anything, even their weakness to make them heed.
The bond between the brothers is amazing. That right there is real brotherhood. Blind-love, unconditional support, and an ass-kicking and reality check when needed. Aiden, Gabriel, and Micheal believe Mason, tehri big brother to be their leader and treat him as such, following his lead always.
Shane, on the other hand has no one and believes herself to be a nobody. Having lost her parents early on, and being bounced from foster home to foster home, abuse, terror, and fear have been her constant companions, but there is a silent resilience and strength to do better graduate and make a comfortable life for herself.
Shane becomes a scholarship student in one of the most prestigious colleges and her only aim, is to be invisible, study hard and graduate. Working two jobs leaves no time for boys, parties or even a college experience, just one best friend to tide her by and make her feel normal and accepted.
Shane’s mental struggle of being accepted is the main key here. No one has ever accepted her unconditionally. No one has just loved her without any strings.
But one night, one party, one dance with a random man, and all hell breaks loose. Suddenly Shane becomes the center of attention, the coveted one, the one everyone is looking at, hating and envying. From no one in her life, she suddenly finds herself three brothers and one very over-protective, obsessive Buchanan man who loves her and wants to claim her, whether she wants to be his or not.
She was mine whether she knew it or not.
Mason in love is a sight to see. He is probably the most obsessive, crazy, and reverent in love. He takes one look at Shane, in her first year at college and falls deep, hard, and forever.
Mason doesn’t relate or identify to emotions. He is cold and hard, and connect be bothered with people or connect to them. But one glance at Shane, and for three years, of standing by, not acknowledging her, trying to secure their future before subjecting her to his desires, Mason feels EVERYTHING.
I finally accepted that I was fucked where it came to that girl. I spent most of my life not feeling much of anything for people, but every time I saw her or was near her, curiosity, concern, want, desire, possessiveness, protectiveness, and lust like a motherfucker assaulted me.
The minute Mason sees a man near Shane, he knows its game over. He must claim her publicly, make a violent statement to those who try to touch her, and explain, or rather announce to her that they belong together, and she has no choice, and the entire conversation is just Woah! Shane’s fire ignites what remains of Mason’s iron-clad control.
I’ve known hatred and I’ve met rage, but that was nothing compared to what I was feeling in this moment seeing some guy with his hands on my woman. “You’ve always been my business. You’ve just never been stupid enough to push me before.”
Mason and Shane are not in love, they are beyond. The connection feels earthly, cemented and still it seems as though its flying through the air. It’s edgy but comforting, hard but soft, ownership, dominance, and worship all that the same time.
“Like I said earlier, Shane, you belong to me. I own all of you. That means from that dark brown silk on the top of your head to the tips of your toes.”
It means you are mine to protect, please, cherish and satisfy. It means anything and everything you do, from this moment forward, will not be done alone. It means I will never let anyone hurt you, I will always have your back and I’ll never lie to you.” It means no one will ever want you the way I do, and no one will ever love you as much as I do. It means I will kill any sonofabitch who tries to take you from me, Shane. It means I own you and you own me.”
And they set the pages on fire, OMG! The sex, the dirty talk, the dominance, the submission, the rough, the praise, the kinks, the sweet worship to the degrading claiming, everything is guaranteed to make you feel every sentence described in the book.
Mason hadn’t been kidding when he had told me that, by the time he was done with me, I’d be a ruined mess and feel nothing but pain. But, Sweet Jesus, what a way to be ruined.
The way Aiden, Gabriel and Micheal stand up for Shane, even over Mason, is all heart! Just perfection, how they claim her as their sister instantly, caring for her heart, her dignity, and her safety over their brothers. Total ‘aww’ moment.
“Yeah, and because she’s yours, that makes her all of ours to protect and heal, and that means protecting her from even you, if we have to.” “She’s beautifully broken on the inside and the fact that she’s yours, just makes her that much more exceptional to us.”
But as they say, the road to hell, is paved with good intentions. In trying to keep her away from his father’s presence and still securing his future with his money, Mason almost looses Shane, not just as a girlfriend, but maybe even in a more permanent way, but that also pushes him to finally stand up against his father, be a man and beg to belong to her again. And if that doesn’t work, then not giving her an option and taking her away is always a good plan, I suppose.
Their argument was heart breaking. So much hurt, so much trauma and so much desperation and rage all in one conversation! Brilliantly written.
“I fucked up and I will regret it for the rest of my life. You were right. I was a coward and nothing with you means more than everything without you.”
Sigh! This, book is amazing, and I totally loved it and recommend it. I wish the epilogue has been longer, but I’m sure there is more of them to be seen in the upcoming books.
PS: The father of the Buchanan brothers is sick and twisted. Even though the mom came through in the end, she is just as terrible for everything the boys have gone through. Really when it comes to parents, they were redundant.
I loved the 1st installment into the world of the bucannon brothers... This was a great introduction to how life is for these popular brothers... Everyone woman wants to be with them and every man either wants to be them or be there friend... They stay in there own circle that is full of respect care and love amongst one another.
Enter the h shane who is a strong independent woman who had to defend for urself all her life. Everything she has accomplished came from hard work and dedication... . Que. Mason who knocks her world on her feet...
Mason and Shane had great chemistry from the get go. I loved there interactions.... M. E. Style of writing really hooked me to this story, it was hard to put down. She created a world that you just want to know all about these characters.
I look for fard to the other brothers books, I just know I won't be disappointed
Ok, so my first book was Facing The Enemy by M.E. Clayton. Which I absolutely loved! I was happy to discover another author that their FMC will fight back and take no shit from the MMC. That is a huge plus for me! So I decided to give another book of hers a try. After reading “If You Could Only See” (Buchanan brothers) I was slightly disappointed. Not to the point I wouldn’t recommend this book, because I would, but because M.E. Clayton doesn’t give you a lot of character growth in her stories. They are to rushed and the MC’s fall in love way to quick. Shane wasn’t as strong as the FMC in Facing The Enemy but she could be feisty when need be and Mason was sexy with all his alpha maleness...overall I think this book could’ve had a lot more potential if it wasn’t so rushed...
I'm writing this after my second reading of this book. If you've seen pretty much anything I post on GR, you'll know that I'm re-reading my Kindle, and doing some appreciating of the good, some purging of the bad, and some what the hell was I thinking with a few things.
This is the first book in M.E. Clayton's Buchanan Brothers series. I have since read a few other series/books by M.E. Clayton, but this was my introduction to her. As for where I would file this amongst my cleaning out Kindle project, I'd put it in the "good enough to keep" pile.
While I have read better books by Ms. Clayton, I also think this one is enjoyable. I'm not going to penalize for the grammar or any errors in publication because this was published by a completely indie author. I know she has grown a lot since this book, but at the time she wrote this book, the author was doing all editing, formatting, and publishing on her own. So, I didn't take any errors into consideration. I also happen to be pretty okay with overlooking them, as long as the book is good and the story keeps me engaged.
The book focuses on Mason, the eldest of four brothers, and the woman he has loved from afar for three years, Shane. Mason, wanting to wait until his college graduation, was content to wait before he approached Shane. This led to some uncomfortable looks from him, and Shane just assumed he hated her. Mason finally gives in when he sees Shane at a party, and she is dancing with another man. He gets into a physical altercation with the man, and declares Shane as his. (He does take her into another room and talk to her first. It's still incredibly insta-love, but if you're usually okay with insta-love, then this isn't too bad.)
I'm cool with the alpha-over-the-top-ness of Mason. Shane wasn't a complete pushover, which I liked. This book has your typical lines about the alpha male "claiming" the woman, which makes me roll my eyes, but all in all, forgivable.
The sex is graphic, so if that's not your thing, you might want to skip this one. I thought it was fairly standard for the genre. Shane is a virgin (yawn), but I will admit that in this case, it didn't bother me as much as it normally does. It somewhat suited the character, so I'll give it a pass. (Even if I did add the "yawn" because I am bored to tears of the virginal heroines) I will say there is consent, but Mason is still a bit forceful, so if that bothers you, again, this would be one to skip.
There is some conflict between Mason and his dad. His brothers are very close to him, and we get to learn a little bit about each one of them. All of the conflict is quickly taken care of, as the book clocks in at around 150 pages.
All in all, this isn't a bad story. I think it could have been longer. We didn't really get time to know Mason or Shane. I did get sick of hearing how "special" Shane was (we get it. And, spoiler for the next few books, this is a recurring theme that nearly ruins the other books).
The only other problem I had with it was the way the use of the words "slut" and "whore" were used. Shane is worried about looking like a "slut". A jealous girl at school accuse Shane of doing sexual things for Mason that, apparently are taboo and therefore that is the only reason Mason could be with her. Again, more shaming, as it perpetuates this idea that if you engage in certain sexual acts, you are seen as less than virtuous, or even a "slut" or a "whore". And, there is even a part where Shane is asking Mason about doing things with him, that if she asks him to engage in certain things, "You won't think I'm a slut?"
STOP WITH THE SLUT SHAMING! There is no such thing as a slut.
Mason and his brother engaged in sex with women who they would never see again, yet they aren't shamed (and shouldn't be) but Shane is worried she will look like a slut for engaging in sexual acts with her bf? To her credit, it is written that Mason eases Shane's worries, but he also says that it's because she's "my slut" or "my whore". Nope. Let's just stop with all of the sex shaming, shall we? (I think it gets better in future works by Ms. Clayton, but my memory is fuzzy, so we will see. I'm fairly hopeful, though. There are some books by her that I remember really liking, so I'm looking forward to those re-reads)
Honestly, had the book had more of the characters, and less of the slut shaming, I probably would have gone with four stars. It's not a bad read. I still recommend it if you're looking for an easy, safe, insta-love story.
3.5 Stars! The idea of a tight-knit group of brothers with a whole lot of alpha protectiveness and possessiveness is what drew me to this book by M.E. Clayton. It was a quick, but enjoyable read.
Summary: With his good looks, smarts, and money, Mason Buchanan draws a lot of attention. Not that he cares. In all of his life, he’s only cared about three people; his brothers Aiden, Gabriel, and Michael. Living under the thumb of a tyrannical father and neglectful mother has left him without the knowledge of basic human kindnesses like sympathy, compassion, and understanding. In fact, he’s a bit of a sociopath. And that’s not good for anybody. Least of which is Shane Slaughter because the moment their eyes meet, Mason’s world changes forever, carrying Shane along with him. Shane has made promises to herself and she refuses to break any. After spending her life in foster care, she will make certain sure that her dreams come true. The first step is keeping her entire focus on work and studying hard at one of the most prestigious schools in the country. It’s everything she knew it would be and more. Except for the existence of Mason Buchanan. Mason makes Shane feel things she never thought she would at that stage in her life. But he’s intense. And when he focuses that cold intensity on her, Shane’s life changes in the blink of an eye.
This was a very fast read. I’ve read a couple of M.E. Clayton’s books before this, and so far, all of her books seem a pretty easy and quick read. They are also full of drama, which I seem to be in the mood for right now. Shane was a great heroine. Coming from the childhood she did, I loved her focus and determination to make a better life for herself. It broke my heart that she tried to make herself invisible as much as possible because she was someone worth getting to know. Given the chance, she was kind, caring, loyal, and had a bit of sass thrown in for good measure. Mason was OTT for real. His obsession with Shane was intense and all-consuming, but it was also kind of sweet (in a hey-you’re-crazy kind of way). I loved his close relationship with his brothers. I had a bit of an issue with his actions, or lack thereof, at one point, but he redeemed himself. Together, their relationship progressed fast. But what else do you expect from an obsessed alpha male? They had some really steamy moments that could be hot. I did feel there were a few elements to that part of their relationship that I didn’t think fit them or the situation. It just had me frowning a bit while reading. I also would have liked to have seen more growth with them as a couple. It progressed so quickly, that there wasn’t really time to flesh out certain things or even watch the two of them learn about each other. Overall, this was a nice little breather read. The drama wasn’t anything too heart-shaking, but it kept me entertained. I loved getting to know the brothers and am looking forward to their stories. I’m a little confused on the subject of their mother, though, so I’m hoping that is addressed in further books. I liked If You Could Only See, but do think it could have been a lot more. That said, I enjoyed it for the easy read and breather from more intense and involved books that it was. ♡
I enjoyed reading the first story about the Buchanan Brothers based around the oldest, Mason, and the girl, Shane, that he's in love with but won't approach her until he graduates college.
Mason and his brothers have been abused and bullied by their father since they were kids. He refuses to let girls be a distraction for his sons to graduate college and take over his company. That's why Mason has been secretly obsessed with Shane from afar, because he knows that his father will disapprove of her upbringing. Her parents dies and she was left in the foster care system.
But Mason quickly changed his mind at the beginning of their senior year. When he sees her at a party for the first time in 4 years, he refuses to take a chance of losing her to another guy.
Shane has done nothing but work and study her whole college career. She's that dedicated to her future. But when her best friend begs her to go to the 1st party of the year, she finally agrees. That's when all 4 brothers see her getting mauled on the dance floor by another guy. Mason loses it and pulls her away, and declares that she's his girlfriend to everyone. Ever since freshman year, which was the first time that Shane ever saw Mason, she thought that he hated her because he couldn't understand why with one look, feelings he's never felt before surfaces and stays. For the past 3 years, she's avoided him and tried to remain invisible to everyone else.
Now the whole school knows about them and for the first time in her life, Shane feels what it's like to be wanted and loved. That is until the boys' father shows up after the fight goes viral and Mason declares to his father that she's no one important to him. He needs to finish up college in order to be able to have his degree and work. If his dad cuts him off financially, he won't graduate. But Shane heard everything and leaves Mason for lying to her and making her look like a fool.
Can he did the trust he broke with the girl he loves more than anything?
MASON and SHANE M.E. Clayton is one of my favorite authors and she does not disappoint. This book is *chef’s kiss* I loved Mason and Shane, but the Buchanan brothers are not far behind.

I wish I could remember what brought me to this book and author.
So I could do it again. I really enjoyed the characters created in this book and I will be reading all the brothers spinoff stories. And while I was mildly annoyed with the stuttering of the female lead with nearly all her encounters with the male lead, I still loved the dynamic of the two characters.
The pacing of this story could have been better. It started off with a fight scene that was barely described and the female lead was too much into her own head in confusion, and the author decided to give all her back story in these moments, but then it took the next 34% of the book to explain what lead up to this fight. I didn’t mind all the getting to know the characters up to that point but I feel it was an unnecessary ploy to hook the audience. The fight wasn’t really described all that much. It was just a catalyst to get the couple together for the first time and that wasn’t needed at the beginning of the book. The author could have started the book with them meeting for the first time 3 years ago.
Either way, the writing had me invested it these characters. I felt their passion for their dreams/goals just as much for each other. I love the pain of there individual histories that helped to mold them. I love angst in my romances. Anyway, I was impressed and am definitely going to finish this series. If that goes well I will invest in this authors other works too. Enjoy!
You talking about a random, winning read? A five star hands down for me. I say random because I was looking for a book to listen to on the way to my grandson's football game today. Alexa hears what she wants to hear. I clearly spoke the name of the book I wanted to listen to but this one came up so I went with it.
I literally went from balling my eyes out to a full on belly laugh while experiencing every emotion in between. Now there are trigger warnings: foster care trauma, child abuse, verbal abuse, assault and attempted rape and violence, so govern yourself accordingly. The story was everything and very relatable for me.
It was a lot to unpack. But let me say for the record, I love Mason, Aiden Michael, and Gabriel. I also loved Viola as Shane's best friend. I was devastated for Shane and all that she endured as a result of her upbringing. What her last foster parents did for her had me wailing on the 14 freeway! I hated Papa Buchanan with a passion and Mama Buchanan redeemed herself. The epilogue would've gotten a standing ovation for me if I hadn't been driving. Always remember: there is more than one way to skin a cat.
There were a couple things that I didn't like and some phrasing that made me uncomfortable and that is mostly due to how I was raised. Even with that, the plot had me already engaged.
This book was "unputdownable" Yeah, I know but, you know what I mean. By accidentally finding this book, I now want to read Clayton's whole catalog.
