Teddy King excels at many things. Playing hockey. Check. Scoring on and off the ice. Check. Being stupidly attractive ... Double check.
I knew him way back when. Before he was the guy everyone wanted a piece of, he was just a rebellious college co-ed and one of my more energetic study partners.
But secrets have a way of getting out, and a steamy encounter from our college days (that we probably shouldn't have filmed) is about to cause a major scandal. Unless we can work together to stop it.
Teddy’s no stranger to hard work … but the thing he wants most?
Is me.
Note: This high-heat standalone is chock-full of scorching banter and steamy good times. He's a testosterone-dripping hockey player who wants a second chance. She's a tough as nails attorney intent on making partner. Loads of hot banter. No cliffhanger. Enjoy!
Your favorite hot jocks are back with an all new stand-alone novel. If you like sexy, confident men who know how to handle a stick (on and off the ice), and smart women who are strong enough to keep all those big egos in check, this series of athlete romances is perfect for you!
A New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author of more than two dozen titles, Kendall Ryan has sold over 3 million books and her books have been translated into several languages in countries around the world. Her books have also appeared on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists more than three dozen times. Ryan has been featured in such publications as USA Today, Newsweek, and InTouch Magazine. She lives in Texas with her husband and two sons.
Sara Dawson is a smart, fierce, driven attorney in Seattle with an extremely demanding career. She spends most of her time working and hopes to soon become a partner. She has a great group of friends that are all very close. One is a former college fling, named Teddy King. TK is now the star forward for the professional hockey team the Seattle Ice Hawks. She knew him before he was a famous hockey hottie, and has always valued his friendship. He’s a playful, fun loving sweet guy. They ultimately decided years ago they were better off as friends, and successfully swerved into the friend zone, and never looked back. Their friends don’t know they go way back, or that they have a history. They’ve been strictly platonic for the last seven years, and then the past comes knocking on their door, and threatens to reveal all their secrets. The steamy encounter from their college days they probably shouldn’t have filmed puts their future in jeopardy and they must work together to avoid scandal.
Spending so much time together they realize the spark was still there, and the mutual attraction was always just simmering below the surface. The close friends who enjoyed exchanging snarky banter, and annoying one another soon couldn’t pretend they weren’t affected by each other. Something began to change between them, and after all this time their chemistry still sizzled. Would their time together remain just a delicious memory, or would they try for more?
-It didn't matter that I told myself he was off-limits; our chemistry was undeniable.
-He's intoxicating.
-No one has ever affected me quite like this, and while I may not understand it, I can't get enough.
Trying To Score by Kendall Ryan is book three in the Hot Jocks series, and can be read as a standalone. It’s a super sexy frenemies to lovers, second chance sports romance that is fun, flirty, and fabulous! I really enjoyed this story, and love this series! I can’t wait for the next book!
Yo me hubiera enojado tan mal...
Okay, so obviously I'm a fan of hockey, and hockey romance and really anything that has to do with hockey, hence it was a no brainer to dive into this book (also, I fell in love with Owen in All the Way and I needed to see what was going to happen with Teddy and Sarah). Plus a sex tape, that gets leaked? How could I say no.
This is a complete standalone, so don't let the fact that it's book three in a series deter you from starting here. Although there's a very good chance that you'll be going back to read the other books in the series after you're done.
Teddy King is such a fantastic hero. He's just so darn swoony, and sweet and awesome and just . . . gah. Also, he's super giving (in bed) and that's all the thumbs up. Sara is the kind of bada$$ heroine you want to be friends with; driven, intelligent and she knows exactly what she wants. Watching their relationship shift from sort-of-friends-previous-lovers back to lovers was so satisfying as a reader.
Trying to Score is full of scorching hot chemistry, steam for days and fabulous banter. Get ready to fall head over heel with your next book boyfriend because Teddy King is complete hockey hotness perfection!
I love hockey romances, and when Kendall Ryan announced the Hot Jocks series, I was so excited. I loved the first book, Playing for Keeps, a hybrid romance blending the friends-to-lovers and best friend’s little sister tropes. All the Way, the second standalone in this series, absolutely stole my heart. While not the lighthearted sports romance readers may have been expecting, it was a beautiful, moving love story, and Kendall broke my heart with that emotional story before she painstakingly pieced it back together. I’ve been a big fan of Kendall Ryan’s writing for years. Sassy, sexy, easy-reading contemporaries and romantic comedies are among my favorite things to read, and Kendall’s always find their way to the top of my list.
Kendall has been killing it with the Hot Jocks series—each book has been better than the last. Trying to Score is a blend of several tropes, and Ryan swirled the frenemies-to-lovers, fake relationship and second-chance romance tropes together masterfully. Pairing pro hockey player, Teddy King, and attorney, Sara Dawson, she matches two opposites in a surprisingly sweet, sexy romance. Teddy has had the whole playboy thing going on for most of the series, and Sara has been focused on her career and clawing her way to partner. What the unlikely duo hasn’t told anyone before is that they weren’t just study buddies in college, they had a casual, friends with benefits relationship that resulted in a sex tape. While they’ve kept their brief relationship a secret from their friends, they’re forced to work together to deal with the consequences of their actions, and the closeness they once shared comings roaring back to life.
I couldn’t get enough of their witty back-and-forth banter and how easily their relationship shifted. Teddy had been kind of the goof-ball of their group, but there was so much more to him and it really took me by surprise. Their chemistry has never been an issue, but it really explodes here in the best possible way. Teddy has always wanted more with Sara, and now that he has this chance, he’s not squandering it. I loved how comfortable and effortless their relationship was, but Teddy was so sweet and swoon-worthy, I couldn’t help but root for them the whole way.
Trying to Score was a fantastic addition to Kendall Ryan’s hockey-themed sports romance series. Full of sizzling chemistry, Teddy and Sara’s sweet friends-to-lovers romance was addictive, and I devoured it in a day. Trying to Score by Kendall Ryan gets 5 smooches from me! ~Danielle Palumbo
This is the third, totally standalone book from the "Hot Jocks" series by Kendall Ryan that I've read.
I really enjoyed reading this book because Kendall's writing style is amazing and always makes me laugh with her books.
"Trying to Score" is the sweet and sexy romance book with friends to lovers and fake relationship tropes.
Sarah and Teddy's relationship is a slow burn.
They started a fake relationship but how can be anything fake if is there a tiny little spark between them?!
Sarah is the female character you want to be friends with her. She is also smart and she knows what she wants (that's why she is such a good lawyer 😉).
Teddy, ahh, he is so delicious.
To be honest?
I didn't expect anything less. He must be awesome and everything because first of all, he is a hockey player 😍!
If you're looking for a romance book that will make you laugh and also fall in love with characters, then this is a book for you!
I absolutely loved Kendall Ryan's latest hockey romance, Trying to Score, the third installment in the Hot Jocks series. It was a perfectly executed friends-to-lovers, second chance romance that hit all the marks for me. Trying to Score was jam packed with all the feels, fiery banter and steamy good times. Filled to the brim with heart and heat, and just enough angst to keep me furiously flipping the pages.
Sara has known Teddy for many years. Before he was a famous pro hockey player, he was just a college co-ed that pleasured her on the regular. One particular steamy encounter resulted in a sex tape that Teddy couldn't bring himself to part with. He promised to delete it, but kept it all this time only for it to end up in someone else's hands.
Teddy's NHL contract is up for renewal, and Sara is trying to make partner at the law firm where she works. So this being leaked would cause a major scandal. To protect themselves from the inevitable fallout, the team's PR department comes up with a plan-for them to fake a relationship. But what starts out as fake turns real rather quickly when old feelings began to resurface.
Trying to Score was a fun-to-read love story with a sweet and riveting story-line about two endearing characters and their irresistibly sexy romance. Teddy and Sara's sweet and tender second chance romance was an addictive, unputdownable love story that I devoured in a day. I absolutely loved everything about this story. It's a fantastic addition to this hockey-themed sports romance that is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
I really enjoyed this college friends-with- benefits to friends to fake-boyfriend/girlfriend to actual bf/gf read... Confusing? Not if you're a pro hockey player who made a sex tape with his college hookup and said tape is about to be leaked....and hookup stayed in your life as one of your better friends...and she has her own career (lawyer) to protect. So she agrees to the suggestion to be proactive about a potential leak to the press and show that you're not a 'player' but actually have a serious girlfriend. Can this possibly work as damage control?
Yeah, this was all kinds of hot when Teddy and Sara couldn't deny their attraction and got down and dirty....but was this going to just be a fake relationship, or the real thing?
I loved Teddy and Sara together. They had tons of chemistry, an easy rapport, and a lot in common. An added bonus was 'no big misunderstanding' in the story. They handled things in a mature way and openly communicated. Kind of refreshing in a romance. A little more detail about their backgrounds and this would've been 5 stars for me. Really enjoyed this one. 4 1/2 stars
This book was such a great read, I absolutely love Teddy! He is a new fav of mine out of all of this author's heroes! He is so incredibly sweet. caring, and I was swooning all over the place with the way he was with Sara. This book held the incredible heat and connection between the characters, I could feel it on every page. I just love it.
This book was captivating from the very start and I could not put it down. It is very much my favorite one out of this series. I did however think that more would happen with one part but it was resolved quite quickly. But all in all this was a fantastic little read. I just loved it.
Oh lawd..... I'm loving the Hot Jocks series and each book gets better and hotter! Trying to Score is the story of Teddy the sexy as sin hockey player and Sara the sassy, lawyer trying to make partner. What happens when their secret from college comes back to haunt them? They become the next IT couple but when that fake relationship has real feelings things take an unexpected turn. This story was full of witty banter, explosive chemistry and so many swoon-worthy moments I inhaled every page faster than the next! If you haven't had the privilege of reading this series yet I highly recommend you start NOW!
I love this series and Trying To Score just blew love right out of the water! Now I’m seriously obsessed guys! I have been smiling over this series since it began, and it just keeps getting better and better! Teddy and Sara were not only super fun, but also deliciously sexy!
There’s nothing like a friends to lovers story to capture that endearing quality in a romance journey. They already have love because of their friendship so it’s just a side-step really and what an excellent way to tumble right into a HEA! Kendall made this story so much more than I expected. The plot-points were ridiculously good, from the group of friends not knowing about their history to fake dating for damage control!
This one packs a punch in all the places .. emotional, sexy, steamy and just so much fun!!!
Trying to Score is a playful, second-chance romance that features the lively, intelligent Sara who’s content to be single and completely focused on making partner, and the cocky, hard-bodied Teddy who’s unfortunately become embroiled in a scandal and in need of some lawyerly advice from an old flame.
The writing is witty and smooth. The characters are charismatic, amusing, and endearing. And the plot told from alternating POVs is a lighthearted, funny tale filled with tricky situations, sizzling tension, sexual innuendoes, blistering chemistry, flirty banter, friendship, and steamy romance.
Overall, Trying to Score is another sweet, humorous, sexy read by Ryan with characters you can’t help but fall in love with and a happy-ever-after ending that will make you swoon.
Thank you to Kendall Ryan for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed Trying to Score by Kendall Ryan 🥰 The storyline was entertaining from start to end, the relationship between Teddy and Sara was hot, steamy, sweet and full of swoon worthy moments. I loved watching them reconnect and fall in love.
Trying to Score is a great addition to the Hot Jocks series, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them all!
3.5 stars - cute as hell and exactly what I wanted it to be.
My fave from this series so far and I'm so so glad my good feelings about this book came true. Sara's and Teddy's possible romantic entanglement has been teased since book 1 with their banter and chemistry that was palpable even with just a few snarky remarks exchanged.
This story was a well-balanced mix of fake-dating and "the one who got away" tropes. Both characters had some personal issues they needed to deal with outside of their relationship and despite short length of the book, storylines were decently developed.
Typical for fake-dating, there was a bit of angst related to "this feels real for me, is it real for them?" drama but what I really liked about this story was that, perhaps because these two characters had a lot of history together and they've also been friends for a while, the relationship naturally progressed from "fake" (but not so fake xD) to real. And there was actual communication, which - yay!
Apart from that, Sara and Teddy were simply just...hella cute? And their chemistry was off-the-charts!
Really enjoyable read and I'm hoping this trend continues from now on in this series :)
Each book in this series just gets better and better. Loved Teddy and Sara so much. They had a past that they wanted to keep in the past. That is always easier said than done because a potential scandal may bring their college hook ups to light. They have to work together to be able to stop this from happening by any means necessary even if they have to pretend to be a couple. This may be hard because the attraction and the chemistry that was between them in college never stayed in college. The problem with fake relationships is that they sometimes turn into real ones. Is Teddy and Sara an exception to that rule or will they fall like all the other couples? You will have to read to find out.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I have really been enjoying this series so much. Trying To Score was so much fun! I found this book to be the perfect balance of sweet and sexy. You know I am a sucker for a second chance romance and this was hit the spot. With a heroine like Sara who is sassy and intelligent, I loved it! And If you haven’t figured it out yet, I love a hockey romance. So are you really surprised that I enjoyed this book?
This entire series has so far been such an enjoyable read. I highly suggest you read these book as soon as possible.
What happens when a secret that is meant to be hidden, is threatened to be released?? How would you handle it?? Read Trying to Score to find out how Teddy and Sara handle this sticky situation ;)
As always, I love Kendall Ryan books. They always have me blushing, laughing, swoony and wanting more!! This was no different. I got those warm fuzzy feelings and was left with a HUGE smile on my face when I was done. Oh and the chemistry between Teddy and Sara is off the charts HOT!!! Have a fan ready when reading this book ;)
Trying to Score is the third book in Kendall’s Hot Jocks Series. Each of these books can be read as a standalone. Each book focuses on a different hockey star from the Seattle hockey team and the woman who tames them. This story was the perfect mix of sports romance and romantic comedy. The banter between Teddy and Sara and even the other players had me laughing throughout the story. I thought the flow and pace was perfect and I loved that it is told in Dual POV.
We follow Teddy and Sara in this book. They have been friends for years and even had a casual thing back in college. When one of those encounters back in college threatens to be revealed, Teddy and Sara must work together to keep it from getting out. Both of their careers count on it. What lengths will Teddy and Sara of to, to keep this a secret?? What happens if that secret get out?? Can they overcome the consequences?? What happens when something that started as pretend, turns uno something more? Read this funny and entertaining read to get those answers.
This is a quick read, but it lacks for nothing. We get the laughs, the feels and emotion we have come to expect from Kendall Ryan. I loved that we got to see all the players and the previous couples in this book. I look forward to the other books in this series and seeing where all these players end up.
If you are a fan of Kendall Ryan books, you NEED to read this story. If you haven’t started on this journey of Kendall’s books yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, this would be the perfect place to start. Trust me, once you pick up your first Kendall Ryan book you will be hooked. This book/series is also perfect for the fans of sports romances. Kendall really knows how to write a great sports romance novel!!!
I think this is my favorite book of the series so far! Loved Teddy such much and Sara too! Kendall is just killing it with this series. Dying for the next one! 😍
I swear this is Kendall's best series...EVER!!! Teddy and Sara's story was just so great. I loved that they were friends and and hook ups in college. They played a game once they hit the real world. Wanting each other but knowing it can't happen because someone was in a relationship. Now a real problem has come up and what starts ioff as pretend turns into something just awesome. and let's say Kendall as done it again!!!
i'm not a big fan of fake relationships, but this one was so good! Teddy is sweet, sexy, and lovable. if you're looking for something light and sexy, read this!
