All your life, you’ve been taught that you need to wait, that everything you want requires hard work , sacrifice, and patience. This is the underlying philosophy of the American dream – go to school, get a job, buy a house, save your money, and wait. Before you know it, you’ve spent your whole life living on someone else’s terms. In Quit Your F*cking Job , Oliver Trojahn shows you that everything you want in life is waiting, but first you need to reject the principles of the American dream , or as he calls it, the great American hoax. Whether your dream is to start a passion business, travel the world, or just have time to stop and smell the roses, the first step is quitting your job and embracing the unconventional. This book shows you how. Oliver spent seven years in the corporate 9-5 grind, slowly accumulating cash-flowing real estate on the side. As his passive income grew, so too did his realization that there was another way to live. He quit his job, and start living by the rules that define the growing demographic of the “new rich”. He rejected the idea that you need to work a job you don’t like, and embrace the concept of Lifestyle Design. Now he works according to his lifestyle, not the other way around. He retired by the age of 30, which he’s proud to say is 17 years sooner than his mentor Robert Kiyosaki (Author of Rich Dad Poor Dad), and since has become an expert in real estate investing and business ownership.
Thank you, Oliver! It was a short read, but just the kick in the ass I needed. Sometimes, the truth stings. It helped me confirm what I always knew, but let others influence my choices. But, over the last years, I have come across so many American hoaxes and BS. I did the corporate thing for 6 years at IBM and then one day my division no loner needed, got laid off and small severance package due to the fact I hadn't been a regular employee for long. I can say to all you readers that he is telling the truth. If you stay in the corporate world, use it as a sping board and get out! I did sell real estate also, but I was too young and dumb. My approach was too influenced and novice. It has taken me many hardships and challenges on the path of life to find my passions and the courage to take a leap of faith. This book just confirmed that I am on the right path. Thank you, and God bless you. Look forward to more from you. Look forward to you offering a workshop, online courses, and mentorship.
The writing needs more polishing but the content is inspiring.
I’m skeptical about taking one person’s story as prove of anything. After all, we all have different situations. Yet what he says makes sense to me especially at a time in which I find myself very disappointed with the American Dream. And because I know there are many people out there on the same boat (after all, name one person who is TRULY happy being the rat in the race), I believe the book is a good read for most of us. If you can get past a somewhat bumpy writing and focus on the message, you’ll finish the book, if not inspired to do something, at least hopeful about an alternative life to the rat race...
This book is inspiring. It's real. The journey will be hard but incredibly rewarding. I enjoyed hearing about his experiences and the turning points in his life that redirected him to the path of entrepreneurship! It's so exciting that it's hard to find a place to start! Thank you for sharing your story!
One thing I really disliked about the book was that it started out with the premises we that $400,000 a year has the same cash flow as $75,000 a year because of taxes. I found this to be a ridiculous argument. This really put a damper on the book. The real estate stuff is good, but the rest is kind of suspect as far as the Outlook on money.
I would recommend to a friend of mine, who is also looking into being a real estate professional. Every page is filled with actual examples, which is more than I can say about much longer reads.
Loved loved loved this book. I felt like I was reading about my own thoughts on “corporate america.” Such a great and inspiring book. It has pushed me more into where I want to be.
Quick read that now has me interested in real estate. This is a dude in construction who got cut down by his bosses as all of us in corporates eventually experience and forged his own life selling supplements and apartments.
