I was here for the Todoroki family and seeing their dynamics.

Bakugo is the best. Why are all the scenes with him so funny? 😂😈

Also I cannot believe I'm saying this, but I feel bad for Twice.

This series gets better and better. This volume was incredible. Easily one of the most emotional in all kinds of ways. The series is building up towards another huge climax quite nicely, and it's doing so using all of the previous arcs as building blocks. Everything up to this point feels essential, and that's something that most shonen manga don't get right. The art has also improved a lot, now being a lot clearer, with better page composition, and better pacing between panels. Super excited for the future of this series.

That day feels like ancient history now. You don't...look back at me anymore.

And you don't need to, go on Kid!"

All Might is Izuku's father figure! There is no doubt!! T_T

"Writhing in that hellscape, as they lay down to die...the past users made sure the power would reach the future.

They weren't really chosen ones. Through all those battles...all they could do was receive it and then entrust it to another."

I like this nature for One For All, aren't we ordinary humans all trying to do the same thing? We try to keep the goodness, our power and our experience alive and pass them down to the next person. *sob sobs*

PS: but I admit I'd read the cute boy's love fanfics on Ao3 first before I even started reading the manga series or watching the anime! XD

Note: I re-read this volume because I am writing a MHA fanfic...

This calm before the storm, the heartwarming passage of time, improvement of skills, and the gathering of troops sure had a lot of great tension building for me.

I can feel the moment about to rise. Chaos.

Oh Horikoshi what are you doing to me.

One of the best shonen manga that's about at the moment, obviously I wouldn't recommend starting here. I recommend picking it up from volume 1 or at least where you left off in the anime. The story is in the middle of ramping up DRAMATICALLY, and looking back, the art has increased so much, and it was never even bad to begin with.

This volume is setting up some good things and promising much for the future... and even if those things would not pay off very well and end up falling flat quite badly in some cases, volume 26 is not to be blamed for it.

On the one hand I was just jazzed to see my three boys working together under Endeavor but then we add in actual CHARACTER GROWTH for the most hated superhero in this series EVER AND some intensely cool action on top of that?! My goodness what is going on, I feel spoiled!

(though as of writing this review I’ve read Volume 27 and now I realize I was just being buttered up for extreme intense pain and suffering ahead. I don’t know if I should feel honored at being so thoroughly tricked or ticked off… 👀😅😂)

The dinner scene at the Todoroki house was both awkward and amazingly endearing with the highlights being Deku and Bakugo whispering about their buddy (aka Todoroki) and then Bakugo demanding the tofu recipe from Todoroki’s sister—must have been some good tofu for him of all people to go this crazy over it! Needless to say I loved it all and especially the super intense fight scene and WHY AM I NOW FEELING BAD FOR ENDEAVOR?!?! 😱😱 There should be a crime for making me feel this way, but it’s known as good writing and I don’t want to make that illegal so I guess I’ll just suffer.

Speaking of suffering, I feel TERRIBLE for Eraser and Present Mic, what a horrible thing to go through! And seeing Eraser cry…that scene’s gonna kill me in the anime, I just know it. I’m already bracing for the tears and pain. 😭😭😭 But the talk between him and All Might later on was wonderful and had so much depth but also a kindness and support Eraser hasn’t shown towards All Might before that made me smile.

And as I said before I’ve already read Volume 27 as of writing this and, well…just let me suffer in peace until that review, okay? Okay.

ASPECTOS NEGATIVOS
-

Shirakumo y Aizawa y Present Mic: 10/10.
Deku y Kacchan llevándose mejor: 10/10.
Aizawa y All Might platicando: 10/10.
Hawks y Twice: 10/10.

¿Un poco biased mi opinión? POR SUPUESTO.

Mi única pregunta es ¿Y DÓNDE ESTA SHIGARAKI?

EDIT 4/19/2022
Read Volume 8&9 of the spin-off Vigilantes to get what's going on with the supposed dead friend in the mist-head of Eraserhead & Mic-head.

I have no love of Endeavor.
He's a horrible person and the lengths he'll go to for his ambition makes him even worse, other people caught in the crossfire be damned.
BUT!
I do love he's actively trying now to be better. Like the side of "the abuela from Encanto is not the villain cuz she's TRYING to be better now, with actual steps towards reconciliation seen" argument I keep finding myself on, I can't hate him.
He's still gruff and how he handles his family is still less than ideal, but seeing as he pushed the three of our protagonists to outshine him in all three ways of heroism that he boasted his agency covers, and those three rose to the occasion magnificently, I still can't hate him.

It took me a while to realize, but MHA is actually one of my favorite comic series. Really looking forward to this arc and Midoriya learning about All-Might’s predecessor’s Quirk.

As this series reveals more background information and each character’s personal stories come to light, I have taken a liking to Todoroki the most. The students and readers know that though he puts up an intimidating front, Todoroki is a struggling kid like everyone else. All of the kids have gone through their own highs and lows but Todoroki seems jaded by events that he’s faced before. As a result, he hides his emotions from the people around him.

I think this is one of my favorite volumes so far!! This showed the passage of time soooo well and the development of all the students powers. And those scenes between Shoto, his brother, and his father…POWERFUL!!

The character development that Endeavor is having I reallllllyyyy like. I like that some of his family hasn’t forgiven him for the things that he has done in his past while others are trying to move on and build back up the family.

I also love my man Aizawa and the emotions he is showing in this volume and I also love 💗 the caring father storyline that’s happening between him and Eri (my sweet little baby boo 😇)

Not a bad book to read for my 200th book of the year!!

My favorite volume so far. I loved all of the emotional bits with the Todoroki family. I loved the action scenes and the downtime with the kids having dinner. I loved Deku’s role in all of this. I’m really invested in how he strives to both earn Bakugou’s respect and to surpass them. Their dynamic is my favorite in this series.

OMG My heart!!! I can't believe that they're using the corpses of people to make the nomus. I mean, Horikoshi did have that weird hint about the flying nomu several volumes back. Poor Mic and Aizawa.

Wow, this volume blew me away. Definitely the best one yet. It's so full of twists, painful reveals, and emotional turmoil that I struggled to put it down.

We pick up with the main trio: Midoriya, Bakugou, and Todoroki, at their work study with Endeavor. He's forced to really try to be a decent teacher, focusing on someone other than his son, Shoto, for once. He can't be selfish and greedy anymore by focusing on his number one status or making his son good enough to take his place one day. Endeavor realises that it's imperative that he helps other students too. He's a surprisingly good teacher, and the kids learn a lot from him about their techniques and Quirk usage, especially Midoriya. He begins to gain a handle on his new ability of One for All, Black Whip, that we saw back in the Joint Battle Training Arc in volumes 23-24.

It surprises me with every volume how Endeavor is growing as a person, and becoming more likable. His change doesn't excuse what he did to his family, and Shoto sure as heck isn't looking to forgive him any time soon and still fights him at every turn, but it's clear now that Endeavor was sincere when he declared his new goal to make amends and become a better hero and father.

We also get a look at the Todoroki family, specifically Shoto's siblings: Natsu and Fuyumi. As the blurb describes, Midoriya and Bakugou are invited to dinner with the Todoroki family, and you can imagine how chaotic the affair is with all the family together in one room. There's plenty of tension and anger between them, mostly directed towards Endeavor. There's family drama that gives us an insight into why the Todoroki family so dysfunctional and why a few members simply refuse to forgive Endeavor for what he did to the mother, Shoto, and their deceased brother, Touya. It's one messy family, that's for sure.

There's a huge reveal for My Hero Academia: Vigilantes fans too, specifically those who have read volumes 8-9 of the Vigilantes manga, which I highly recommend you do before reading this volume, as it will help give context to the scene in question. It's also a really great series that's on-par with the main series! (If you didn't want to read the entire series and just want to learn about Aizawa's backstory that's relevant to this volume, the chapters are 59-65). We learn some heart-wrenching information about the fate of a beloved character from Vigilantes as well as a brief peek into Aizawa and Yamada's (Present Mic) backstory, specifically their days as students at U.A. High School. Aizawa and Yamada reunite with someone they knew from their past, and it's so emotional and heartbreaking that it feels like a knife is in your chest and someone's twisting it to add insult to injury. I adored said character from Vigilantes, and to see what happened to them is so saddening.

Then, moving onto happier times, we get a lesson with All Might again which we haven't really seen since he retired. 1-A get to show off what they've been learning during their work studies, specifically new abilities and techniques they can use in battle. There's also a major shift in the Midoriya-All Might student-teacher relationship. Midoriya has advanced beyond what All Might can teach him, and in a way he's leaving him behind. He doesn't need to rely on All Might so heavily anymore. He's gained more control over his power, and is exploring new areas of One for All that All Might never had access too. It's great to see Midoriya growing and improving, but it's a little saddening to see All Might become less helpful, turning into more of an advisor than a mentor.

Finally, we return to the Paranormal Liberation Army and discover what Hawks has learned about them. Originally, the League of Villains was just a ragtag group of villains with no structure or resources, but now they've become a true force to be reckoned with. Shigaraki is still undergoing his work with the doctor and is out of the picture for the moment, but that doesn't mean the Paranormal Liberation Army is standing still. They're preparing for something big, and through Hawks we learn what their goal is.

All of Hawks' double-agent work is about to pay off, and it seems like a huge battle is on the horizon between the heroes and villains. Things are seriously heating up.

Going to just give this Five Stars because there are quite a few good character moments. Mostly regarding the Todoroki family. There's an attempt to flesh Aizawa out a bit more, and it's alright, but I think it's not done as well as it could have been, because it mostly involves around a) a character we've never really seen and b) a character we haven't seen in ages.

The volume is actually a little weak in some areas. The training with Endeavor and his agency mostly happens off-screen, and the main fight for this little arc ends up feeling less of a big deal than Gentle, whose fight was pretty short but who felt more relevant as a character overall. Ending here could have been easily replaced with a Nomu or something without really changing anything. He only ends up being "relevant" to me at all because he's one of the Adventure Mode bosses in the second BE Memory for Vital Bracelet....

Todoroki's sister's boobs look great on the back cover. Uraraka looks good as well, but it's a bit unfortunate the framing cuts off her hips. Burnin is always hot (heh) every time she appears, which is unfortunately not very frequently (and is another reason why I wish the Endeavor Agency Arc was longer...). Uraraka and Hadou both look great on the cover for Chapter 248, but it runs into that weird thing that happens a lot in Horikoshi's art where it's obvious he's trying to show off armpits, but these girls are in skintight suits so their armpits are technically not as lewd as they maybe could be. Uraraka looks good again in the first panel we see her updated costume in Chapter 253, but it also kind of makes me wish her hair color was lighter in color, as she looks so much better in black-and-white here and other such pages. The next page has decent little pics of Yaoyorozu's ass, Jirou's legs, and Ashido's cleavage. The cover of Chapter 254 has Uraraka and Yaoyorozu looking especially nice in these super-detailed costumes, but I feel vaguely that Toga's simple black thigh-highs steal the show. Fuwa from Class 2-A is pretty hot, but I doubt we'll see much of her in the future, if at all. In Chapter 256, we see Ashido with her hair matted down from her Acidman technique, and she actually looks way better this way.... There's a good shot of Yaoyorozu cleavage shortly afterward, as well. Nana's muscular groin looks amazing in the scene where All Might is theorizing on Deku's next Quirk unlock. I already gave a blanket statement regarding Burnin, but her thighs on the cover of Chapter 258 are important enough to mention specifically. We see a brief image of Mirko on the last page.

Midoriya and Bakugo continue their work study at Endeavour's agency, but a family dinner at the Todoroki's ends in tears when a villain attacks. Then Eraser Head and Present Mic visit Tartarus for a revelation about Kurogiri, and the final term of the UA kids' first year begins!

A decent volume if a little piecemeal. The first half with the Endeavour stuff is good fun, although I do think Bakugo's general demeanour is losing its humour. Yeah, the dude's cool, but he could chill out just ONCE and I'd be happy.

I need to apologise to the Vigilantes spin-off, because the Eraser Head flashback stuff there makes the middle part of this volume even more powerful, so sorry Vigilantes!

Then the ending is fairly quiet, more of a calm before the storm type deal. I've said before that these volumes always seem to collect arcs in weird ways, but I guess it's just an ongoing thing to deal with.

This volume focuses on several different elements and pushes the story forward, setting up big things to come in future story arcs. There is a good chunk of this volume that also looks into Shoto Todoroki, his father, and their family's drama. The story also digs deeper into the newly found creatures, the Nomu, as they try and understand the villains' plans.

There's a great balance between humour and tragedy in this volume as our heroes learn new knowledge regarding their abilities and try and establish new goals as they approach their 2nd year.

Yours truly,
