Posted on What I'm Reading

When I started To Catch a Star, I wasn't sure what I got myself into. I love the premise of the story with the bad boy movie star with a chip on his shoulder again aristocrat and the Ice Princess. That is the making of a good story. Plus, the cover is absolutely adorable. I think that is what really sold me. Anyway, I started the book and it was a little slow to get into. Granted there was all this tension between Christian and Teresa and it was bound to explode. However, there was a lot of build. Both of them had prejudice against one another. What changed my feelings about the story was when they both started open up and they started to understand one another.

So, we have Christian and Teresa starting to understand one another, and you would think they would automatically jump into bed. *Possible Spoiler* However, there is one element that is missing and that is Teresa is engaged. Now you are thinking how is this going to work. Trust me I was thinking the same thing. Truth be told I was a little worry.

Anyway, by the time I got to the middle of To Catch a Star the progress of the story started to speed up and I enjoyed the relationship that was developing between Christian and Teresa. Truth be told I did enjoyed the book, because by the end it gave me the happy-ever-after. So, if you are looking for something with a little drama, but not enough to stress you out with a happy ending, you might consider reading To Catch a Star.

It is a seemingly normal day, when Teresa and Christian run into one another (or rather Christian was doing the running). Neither knows who the other is, and their first impressions are of dislike. A twist of fate brings them together again, when Teresa becomes Christian’s personal assistant. Which made for quite an interesting story, because Christian is one of the world’s most famous actors.

Christian was cocky but sweet and I found his life story extremely intriguing! Teresa is prim and proper and doesn’t want to feel any feelings that would make her change, and for Teresa this is wanderlust and love.

The setting is fantastic. I loved how we got to read all about the movie industry and the ‘behind-the-scenes’ of an actor’s life. I find the film setting quite refreshing. I haven’t read a book that takes place in this kind of world from what I remember. We also got to see life from an aristocratic point of view, and I applaud the author for making these seem so real! I only wish I got to see more of Westerwald, where this story was set. But, from what I understand this is the third book in the Westerwald trilogy/series, which means some side character’s stories are told in the other two books: The Trouble with Mojitos and Waking up in Vegas. Both of which are now on my to-read list.

I really loved reading a romance without any paranormal creatures for a change. And I also liked the bit of mystery in the story, it gave it something extra! I also really enjoy the cover and title, they suit the book perfectly.

So if you are looking for a decently paced romance novel that will make you feel all warm and fuzzy and intrigued at the same time, then this is the read for you! Overall a magical tale!

If you loved the movie "Frozen", you'll love this romance set in winter in a small European kingdom. Teresa is cast as the Snow Queen and believes her duty to her family and kingdom is of paramount importance. Christian is a world famous movie star, but his mother was rejected by the same royal set to which Teresa belongs. They must now teach other to "Let it go" of their preconceived ideas.

A lovely, light romantic read with solid characters, good dialogue and plot.

Ever hear about those types of princesses that are all ice and no fire at all? Yep me neither, for you see in real life the layers of ice are always hidden and in front of the public they are always sweet and kind and make us all wish we could be her.

In the latest read from Romy Sommer we meet Teresa Adler she is the ultimate Ice Princess, with a heart as frozen as the winter landscape of her beloved home, Westerwald, BTW don't you just love that name? It sounds so magical, and fits right in with this book, because magical it was !

Teresa has belonged to a inner circle of wealth, privilege and position all her life, and could definitely do with a little magic to unfreeze her ice cold heart. The magic comes in the form of Christian Taylor, heartthrob, movie star and bad boy! Always going against the rules he sets his sights on Teresa, the one thing he was told he cannot have.

But whilst Christian tries to get the woman he can't have , Teresa on the other side of the setup holds the ultimate clue to the secret of Christian's parentage, and with every touch she's comes closer and closer to melting at his feet and telling him all.

The main characters were both written very well and pretty darn close to realistic! Christian was as bad boy actors go written with perfection, bad-*ss, a little rude, too confident and strong and leading the pack, it was as infuriating as it was entertaining.

Teresa was a bit of a " am going to slap this woman over the head " character. I did not at all times agree with her decisions, yes I realized that this is probably the way it goes when one has a ice cold heart and then suddenly it starts to fill with feelings of joy and all the warm fuzziness, but more than once I just could not bring myself to agree with her down right stupid decisions , of course knowing this author always has a trick to it, I was eager to see just what she was up to and thus I was kept on the edge of my seat to discover what exactly lies beneath the ice princess's cold exterior, and when the moment does emerge it was just WOW did not see that one coming !

The backdrop settings were as magical as they were simply screaming romance and without a doubt more than once I felt as if I was right there seeing it all. I am taking away a special message of everyone has a reason for being bad or even frozen to the core, but there will always be someone that is able to crack through the layer of ice or even see the good hiding behind the bad, it's a matter of trust and understanding.

I recommend this read for all fans of fairy tale romance reads, a truly lovely afternoon escape into a world of princess find her prince which I know every woman out there dreams about every now and then, Romy Sommer has brought it life for us and believe me you don't want to miss this one!

Teresa (or Tessa) is in the ‘titled class’ of a small European country. Polished and always doing the ‘right thing’ for her image and the country, she is engaged to a man just like her father: a workaholic with little passion or emotional connection to her.

Christian is a biracial actor, returning to the country of his birth for a film. While he has long held anger and resentment to those in his past, he has never publicly claimed Westerwald as his history, even as his then unwed and pregnant mother was run out of the country.

From a less-than-auspicious meeting after a very stressful day, these two are soon thrown into close contact as Tessa’s father insists she take her first ‘real job’ as a PA to the Hollywood movie star Christian. But all is not as It seems: Christian has been noticed in possession of a ring, a family heirloom only possessed by those in line for rule.

Completely entertaining, this story is told from the perspective of both Tessa and Christian. He’s determined to get under her skin in his quest to have her in his bed. She is determined to do her ‘duty’ for her father and country, and remain aloof and untouched by the dangerously sexy and daring man. While there was a ‘mystery’ in the story, foreshadowing made the mystery far less unusual – it was only of interest to me that Tessa didn’t put the pieces together sooner. But, she was so determined to keep her protective candy coating, she really had no clue how to process the emotions she was flooded with. I liked her, but so wanted someone to come along and smack her, get her to truly see her own situation for the dead end it was. Fortunately, Christian, although determined to keep everyone at arm’s length is a very observant, and cares little for ‘convention’ manages to drop pointed hints, if not outright directions to her.

You know HOW you want this story to end, you can cheer for it and you would be mostly right: but the journey to that end is one that is full of angst, emotion, clever characters and some really interesting insights into the growth of these two characters throughout the story.. A difficult book to put down, with a solid feel of a fairy tale come alive, this was a fun read and sure to please romance fans who want to ‘get away from it all’ for a few hours.

I received an eBook copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free for a Blog Tour in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Thank you to Lisa at Tasty Book Tours for letting me take part in this tour.

Ever since I was a child I've always loved a fairy tale. I watched all the Disney films, Belle was always my favourite, and wanted to one day fall in love with my Prince. Not an actual Prince, although I wouldn't turn Prince Harry down, I mean a man who would love me like they do in fairy tales.

Tessa/Teresa is know as the Ice Princess in her little town of Westerwald. She is cold and unfeeling. She has this mask that shows who she should be, but the real her? No no-one has seen that. I really liked Tessa when she let herself be who she truly is. Not the façade for her family's sake or for the rest of the Aristocrats around her. The Tessa that let her hair down and really enjoyed herself.

Christian is this big time Hollywood actor who is used to women falling at his feet. We start off with him running away from 5 women. So it's more than a shock for him when Tessa doesn't fall at his feet. In fact when he uses all of his tricks and charm and she still doesn't want him he's even more determined to make her pay. But somewhere along the way it all goes a bit wrong.

I really liked Lee and Anna, they seemed to be the only true friends that Tessa had. Dom has been there for Christian through it all. I was glad they both had people they could talk to.

While it was a slow start once I was around over halfway through I couldn't put this book down. This was the first book of Romy's that I've read but it won't be the last.

This is a beautiful story of love, facing your fears and stepping out of your comfort zone.

I think this was my favourite from the whole series. When I downloaded it from NetGalley I didn't realise it was the third book until I saw the mention of rings. It was the "ice queen" personality that caught my attention and I couldn't wait to start it.

I loved the start and it set everything up nicely. It was engaging and made me laugh quicker than I expected. It also set the scene for Christian's lifestyle incredibly well and I thought the chaotic and busy nature of his work was continued and carried out well throughout the entire book. Similarly I thought the development in the book was well paced and believable. I loved Christian as he was a mixture of strong, leading male but was battling inner conflicts about his past and beliefs. I'm glad he decided to fight for what he wanted and he got what he deserved.

I'm not sure I can say the same for Teresa. She's one of those characters who's split my opinion. I liked her for most of the book, and thought how she became less of an ice princess was believable and developed well. However I just didn't agree with some of her decision and at times thought she was being stupid. I'm glad it all works out but I'm not sure I like how it got to that point due to personal preferences on subject matter.

Saying that though, in general everything progressed well and was believable. I liked the movie backdrop and that the author made it more realistic than the Hollywood glamour you sometimes see. There were also moments that made me laugh--the balcony scene being the first that comes to mind. It balanced the heartache and troubles well making this an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend this book.

4.5 Star review - http://rachelsrandomreads.blogspot.co...

Teresa (Tessa) Adler is used to doing what is expected of her. She is engaged to Stefan, an amassador for Westerwald, but we barely see anything of him until towards the end of the book, as he's abroad working, in the run up to their wedding.

Tessa is asked by her dad, to take on the assistant job to movie star and heart throb Christian Taylor. It is believed that Christian has the missing ring from the palace and Westerwald, and it is down to Tessa to find out why he has it.

Christian is your typical bad boy movie star. He normally moves from woman to woman, until he meets his new assistant Tessa and can't get her out of his mind.

To Catch A Star is the third book in the Westerwald trilogy, and reintroduces you to characters from the previous, and since I have read Romy Sommers books out of order, I was also pleased to see the introduction of Dominic. Dominic features heavily in Not A Fairy Tale, and I enjoyed finally reading the heavily hinted at back story in full, of both Dominic and Christian. This book can be read as a standalone too.

To Catch A Star is a romantic story, and you see Tessa's ice-princess facade fade, and Christian starts to be himself and not the public version of him.

The question throughout the second half of the story for me was who was Tessa gong to end up with? Will her upbringing for doing what is right for Westerwald take over from what it is clear her heart is starting to feel?

I loved every second of To Catch A Star, and I felt it was a fitting finale to the Westerwald trilogy. I really hope though Romy comes back to these characters in future books.

Like all good fairy-tales 'To Catch a Star' starts gently, with heroine Teresa and hero Christian keeping their emotional distance from each other. This romantic modern fairytale full of secrets and emotion explores misunderstandings, pride and passion.

Christian is an A' list actor making a film on location in Westerwald. His meeting with Teresa is suitably dramatic for the start of any film but it is their delicate and slow burning relationship that keeps readers turning the pages.

The fatalistic elements in this story make it heart warming and satisfying. The underlying connection with the other books in this series adds mystery to this tale but the story is also a delightful stand alone read.

Emotionally stunted by their traumatic pasts Christian and Teresa help each other to embrace their fears and achieve the lives they both deserve. When Christian and Teresa finally give in to their desires the result is steamy and sensual.

I loved the ending; fairytale and full of drama with a delightful twist.

Entertaining and Fun!

If you're a fan of old Hollywood movies like me, you will really enjoy Romy Sommers' book "To Catch a Star". Set in the busy world of film production, it opens with the scene of Christian Taylor, a famous heart throb actor, being mobbed by his fans. He escapes their clutches by jumping into a car driven by the very pretty, but aloof aristocrat Teresa Adler, who pretends not to recognise him. Yes, it's an homage to Singin' in the Rain! and it made me smile. Although it's set in the present day, the themes are timeless: dutiful, inhibited Teresa is set to marry the dull, dependable Stefan in a massively public and very fancy wedding... but ... for reasons of "National Importance", she is forced by her father to work as a PA for the very same Christian Tyler, who is a serial womaniser and harbours a secret. He tries to break Teresa's frozen exterior and release her pent-up desires and we are treated to a wonderfully entertaining and often funny story of how things unfold, reminiscent of those classic movies, It Happened One Night, High Society, Roman Holiday ... not to mention the ending which brought to mind another great movie ... !

This was fun to read and I'm looking forward to catching up with the rest of the series in Romy Sommers' collection.

This is book three in a series but you can read it as a stand alone book.

Teresa is an aristocrat who has been put to a task by her father to find out if a missing ring is in actor Christian Taylor's possession, and if so why and how.

Christian is in the country he was conceived in to play the pirate of a film based in the Carribean..he lived alone with his disgraced single mother.

Christian plays with the ice queen, but he slowly brings out feeling from her and finds himself pulled to her in every way. Not something he is used to.

The ending is predictable but it is left to the bitter end as to how things are going to work out.

Still a fantastic story with a fairy tale type air to it.

Teresa and Christian change each other in the short time they know each other. Christian takes a leap decides to finally be himself and pursue a more serious role as an actor. Teresa feels more alive than she has for a long time when she's with Christian, more than she does with her fiance. She has to decide whether she will live the life she was raised for, or the life she was meant to.

I loved the opening scene which is the excerpt above! Although some of the story is predictable, the fairy tale aspect was very enjoyable and their chemistry is great!

To Catch a Star is a cute, predictable romance novel. I was drawn in by the cover and the story, though anticipated from the beginning, turned out to be very enjoyable!

It was slow to begin with, but the story picked up and had enough conflict to make it a worthwhile read.

I would recommend this for a quaint weekend read with a warm blanket and three cups of coffee!

Great story. I sort of guessed who his father was, but found myself forgetting about the ring entirely because I was too engrossed in the story of Christian and Tessa. It was nice to finally see Tessa in a different light than what had been said about her in Mojitos. Great story, great end to the trilogy.

I've loved falling into the pages of this author's Westerwald Trilogy because she creates such interesting characters. The fictional country of Westerwald is fully-formed and alive on the page. There are three heart-warming romantic modern-day fairy-tales in this series and this is the third. The setting is gorgeous and so are the hero and heroine (Teresa and Christian). Teresa has been in the spotlight for years, due to her position within the royal family and Christian is used to the spotlight because he's an A-list Hollywood actor, however they both where masks to help them cope in that spotlight and it is as these are stripped away that romance is inevitable. Full of drama and sensuality, To Catch a Star is a truly lovely ending to the trilogy.

4.5 stars.

Romy is a master storyteller. She knows how to spin an intricate tale of depth and character.

Teresa is an ice princess - she's of noble birth in the fictional Westerwald and has closed her heart to almost all emotions except for the surface acceptable ones. I still really liked her. Although she had this cold outward persona, I really identified with lots about her and liked her essential inner goodness. I liked that she put up this shell to protect her heart. I liked that she was strong, calm, and beautiful. She had a way of reaching the most difficult case - Christian.

When she works for arrogant, smooth and charming famous actor, Christian Taylor, upon her father's insistence to discover why Christian has the Westerwald ring, sparks fly. In the beginning, not in a good way. On the outside, Christian appears the total opposite to her - cocky, naughty, rude, bad-boy womaniser, shallow and grumpy (especially in the morning, lol.) As you read on, you realise they actually have a lot in common.

I have to admit, it took me a while, right up to the the last 3/4 of the book, to actually like him. I've never really liked that celebrity shallowness and selfish, amoral man. But I appreciate the way Romy made us see the real person inside. Her character arc was superb. The romance changed him and revealed who he truly was. And it helped the ice princess to thaw out beautifully.

Her progression of the romance was very realistic, true to life.

The twists and turns at the end and the suspense was magic. Really, really loved the last 1/4 of the book. The whole book was masterfully crafted so I cannot fault it. Once again, she's brought a great fairytale romance with the Westerwald backdrop and taken us into this fictional, yet realistic world.

The cover got me on this one. Who doesn't love a fairy tale? Past that, I took chance on an author I'd not yet heard of.

I'm glad I took that leap of faith. The story starts off with a chase, the hero jumping into the backseat of a moving convertible just as the top is coming down to close. Startled heroine, spoiled socialite, pretends not to recognize TV star/heart throb. That's just the first three pages!

To Catch a Star is a wonderful fairy tale story with an ice queen for a heroine and a bad-boy celebrity for a hero. Both learn the hard way that judging others without stepping into their shoes can be very dangerous. The author does a great job of showing attraction between Tessa and Christian, but also reveals the inner turmoil and personal growth both characters go through as their shells soften and peel away.

I enjoyed Ms Sommer's latest book. It's a happily ever after with a twist and a turn and a last minute ah-ha that will cap off an easy afternoon read.

I think this book was trying to be too many things at once. It was trying to go towards the secret Royal angle, but still play on the love story angle. In the end I don't think it did either of those story lines justice. I felt as if both could have been so much more, if the author would have really committed to one. Overall this book was ok.

Meh. The entire first chapter was literally stolen from the movie "Singing in the Rain" which immediately told me this book was bad. I persevered and I was correct. The book even managed to use some of my most hared tropes in particular the hideous "Don't marry him, marry me" wedding gatecrash. ARGH

I'm very glad that this book was free, then I didn't feel bad about deleting it from my Kindle
