Living in Cin #1

When Art Rises

Rate this book
Arthur “Art”

The moment I die, I’m going straight to hell, and that’s exactly where I belong.

When I was fifteen, the course of my life changed—one second was all it took.

The truth about what happened that summer night is driving me to the brink of
insanity.

I’m an ex-drug addict and suicide survivor who’s been deemed a lost cause. No one can control me.

I don’t give a damn about anything—until I meet her.

She’s a “Cin” worth committing.

Cinnamon “Cin”

I have a life most would envy—a track star with a full scholarship lined up after I graduate high school.

My boyfriend and I are looking forward to our future together. I’m content—until I meet him.

He’s dangerous, damaged, and I know it’s best to keep my distance, but damn I’m drawn to him.

Art is a beautiful disaster, tearing my carefully laid plans apart, causing havoc.

Little did I know my choice would set in motion the destruction of my perfect world.

The consequences will be catastrophic once the dust settles.

WARNING: This book is heartbreaking, dark, dirty, and is only for true dark romance lovers. Arthur is not the hero—he’s the anti-hero. While the setting of this story is in a high school environment, its recommended reading age is eighteen+ due to mature content, explicit sexual scenes, and graphic language. You may need to take a shower afterwards. Please take my warning seriously before reading this book. IT’S NOT FOR SENSITIVE READERS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

This is the first book in a duet and cannot be read as a standalone.

Note to self. The H ties h up and forces her to watch him f* OW when he thinks h cheated on him (she didn’t cheat). Oh and she’s pregnant.

⚠️I absolutely hate the cheating trope, I didn’t knew the book consisted that. ⚠️
(Well the h cheats on her bf with the H, and f them both at the same time so)
Would I have read it if I knew it consisted that? No. But well the book was good enough for me to continue the duet.

OH.MY.GOD!
I hate this book so much. But I also enjoyed it so much I finished it in a day. It was fucked up. The spice was fire tho, very well written. 🙊🫣

Poor Trevor had to crushed into the mix for what? For loving his girl. And I do not care if the author dirties him in the next book. He still didn’t deserve all the shit. To me his reaction will be justified. He was a good guy, no hard feelings for him.

Art (the MMC), was hurting so his emotions makes sense, I have a love-hate feeling for him. Sometimes I loved him, most of the times I wanted to slap him.

Cin though? She created all the drama 😬 SHE HURT THEM BOTH. Could have just left Trevor after f Art for the first time but nah, girl has to do stupid shit. And did herself wrong in the process too. So I have nothing to say for her.

Anneli was a great friend and the only sane person in the book. I wish she and Zeke had a book tho. 😩

What a rush!

One of the of more captivating books I've encountered. There was tragedy, heartache, tenderness, ferocity, pain, pleasure, passion, and undeniable attraction. This story follows a bad boy alpha, Art, meeting an unassuming yet charming girl, Cin, who is drawn to him, compelled to soothe his inner turmoil. Only problem? She has a boyfriend, Trevor. This tale unfolds in an intensity of encounters, escapades, and some misadventure experienced by the two main characters, the boyfriend, and a divergent match of side characters culminating into an explosive part 1.

The storyline was amazing, intriguing, savory. I read leisurely not wanting the tale to end, yet unable to put the book away. I could feel Art's pain and rage, Cin's empathy, and Trevor's trust blended in one complex, drama and suspense-filled tale. The story was unique, the characters while in some ways traditional, were unconventional. Art was the rich bad boy with a depth of range in feeling — anger, passion, pain, apathy. Was he merely troubled or untenable? Cin was a good girl who while unassuming in her physical appearance, even her attire, was largely irresistible; and while empathetic, sweet even, she was no naive wallflower. Trever, loving, warm and seemingly trusting, was not above displaying alpha tendencies and brawling with the rest. He was a great foil to Art's personality. The friends and family added to the dynamic of the relationships in the story from the sheriff to the best friends to the cousins, and immediate family.

The book was dark, psychologically dark, and there were topics some might find disturbing, even a little taboo. There was destruction but also healing. These contributed to the creativity and dynamics of the storyline — often an uncertainty surrounding what is about to transpire, yet a curiosity to see it to the end, unable and unwilling to change course. The book weaved a compelling and emotionally-charged tale that left me a little breathless, disquieted, and pleasantly shocked. Part 2 can't arrive soon enough.

Toxic couple indeed! omfg this book was so good, it was intense and raw. I know most people didn't agree with the representation and even considered this polarising and unconventional, but for me, those aspects put together the book, and I couldn't care less. I solely based my rating on my level of enjoyment and I had a great time delving into the storyline and characters' minds.

I did find it tolerable but I regret reading this book. I just found out that the guy keeps getting worse, he mentally abuses the heroine, going as far as to have sex with ow in front for her with no grovel whatsoever!!!
How he got his hea after the shit he pulls goes over head.

The girl with her p*ssy head is just not worth my time.

oh boy this is going to be a harsh one.
reading this reminded me why I stay away from heterosexual romance novels. listen I did not care about the controversial shit like cheating, unsafe sex, unrealistic sex (how can people be THIS horny), the love quadrangle or whatever. but it's BORING. it's bland. art is the most 2d character EVER. im rich, im grieving, blah blah. cin had no personality. a doormat. unfortunately the same quality as many wattpad stories. I never want to see the word pussy again.

The author upped the ante and scored a home run with this book. There’s absolutely no way I can compose a coherent review after I’ve finally finished it. With every forbidden and endangering scenes between the main characters, I swear this book damaged me to the marrow.

This book is outrageously good, and One-click worthy. It’s a dastardly unique book and the characters are not cliché, they go well together and carry the incredulous plot well.

Beware of a possible trigger! Because the storyline has some really dark themes included and to some, it may be unacceptable, but you were warned no details was spared.

The book commences with a trouble kid; Arthur or Art, wanting to get out of his life because he has no sense of direction and he spends the most of time in the book pushing everyone away by his actions and foul mouth. Art is a troubled kid and that’s putting it mildly, because Art doesn’t know how to cope with his lifetime after his brother Cole died from a preventable accident. Art is not only troublesome, but very destructive. Every where and anyone he came in contact with is perceived as the enemy and all Art does is lash out on those who tries to facilitate him. He definitely was and is a mental basket case.

After getting into a conflict with some kids at his school his mom shipped him off to North Carolina and that’s where he met her—Cin. And on that point, for the first time in his life, words failed him. Because with Cin, Love wasn't what he anticipated. No, not at all. Being with Cin, became an addiction more like an obsession for Art. The more her he got of her, the more of her, he needs to stay sane.

The plot was fast paced and interesting, I was incredibly shocked by how grim and utterly rude Art was towards everyone. The narration switches between the two main voices Art and Cin, who both embodied strengths, failings and weaknesses.

Ms Allen wrote a well thought provoking-throughly book, sparing no details into a web full of misdeeds and chaos. Her main characters are very well written and so is their character development. The overarching themes of dealing with a loss and having to face the truth was handled very well and at times you will necessitate to take a breather because of the extent Art deals with his mental and psychological issues.

The final couple of pages were too much, I was ranting and raving and then crying and then screaming again. I think this might be another one my favourite book of 2020 thus far.

Loads of sexy time, twists, heartbreak, and clutch your pearl moments is in this book. And that ending!? It’s an Insane cliffhanger. I’m feigning for more. I truly detest cliffhangers because, they are cliffhangers—duh. Hence while I spew about that, I'm going to go lie down and stare at the ceiling, hating this because I have to wait an eternity for the next book to get here.

Nevertheless, with the knowledge of it being a duet, it was a great book overall. Please read it, it’s unquestionably worth the read!

When tragedy strikes it is bound to shape and mold who you are for your present and your future.  Such happens to Art and that sends him down a dark tunnel with no light in sight…until he sees Cin, and it makes you think there just might be some hope for him yet.  This book was filled with twist and turns from the very first page, and they did not stop even at the end. It will keep you on the edge of your seats waiting and wanting to know what with happens in this very twisted and dark love story.

An amazingly dark story about a good girl who meets a beautifully broken boy. Art is a dominant alpha male who does what he wants when he wants and he is ready to burn down the world. Some of the hottest moments I have read in a long time. Loved Art's broken fierceness and Cin's addiction to the bad boy who is going to destroy her. The ending was on fire and I can't wait to read the next book.

another Keira from Thoughtless (Thoughtless, #1) by S.C. Stephens
I want to dislike her and the choices she makes but Art is such an uncontrollable force that no one saw him coming, least of all the h, Cin.

he has no filter and gives no fucks
never backs down - like literally, unless its with Cin and even then not without angsty fights

I wish their story was told in 1 book but the author broke it up into 2 instalments - at least, I think its 2 - I went into this blindly, without spoilers so don't know what to expect in the next book.
I'm gonna die if they spend years apart, I'm just gonna curl up and die

the book flows fast
no long drawn out paragraphs of unnecessary fillers
its dialogue driven
every character is there for a reason and each one is well portrayed

SPOILERY:
.
.
.
.
.
..

he's not interested, IN THE LEAST, in anyone else, although he is intimate with ow on page - usually I loathe this scenario but in this case it was necessary

abuse aspect:
he was introduced to sex at the age of 13 by a 27 years old friend of his mother and while he was quite happy about it - its still abuse in my eyes

Art and Cin stressed me the hell out! These two in this book are over the top toxic! I love me some dark I/R Y/A books and this definitely hit the mark! I'm kind of speechless on this because so many things happened that left my jaw hanging open and I do mean literally hanging open. There was a lot of wtf and oh hell to the no coming out my mouth. I will say this is very different from her other dark book. You will feel bad for most of the characters in this I sure did. Poor Trevor! The only one I don't feel sorry for is Cin. You will feel like you're on a rollercoaster that you can never get off of with that girl lol. I'm wondering how they will survive in the next book, like seriously got me so anxious for the next book. I need it like now with the way this ended on a all hell broke loose cliffhanger! My goodness why you do that to us, Ms. Allen, why? All in all very good read! I can't wait to read more!

Happy Reading Friends!

Holy crap, Intense

Art has a lot of darkness since his brother died. Cyn easily cheats on Trevor with Art. I don't think she has any morals what do ever. Josh the cousin also kissed Cyn. It was all crazy with a LOT of fighting. It's amazing more people didn't end in the hospital.

It ends on a huge cliffhanger, and I can't believe what Cyn said to Art before he left that he should have died. That was awful especially since she's pregnant. Boy did her character disgust me.

Hmm...

These types of books may not be for me. Angst is the name of the game here, for the entirety of the story all the way to the end. Like a telenovela.

I’ve dug myself in a hole, and as the days pass, the hole gets deeper and deeper. Soon, I won’t be able to climb out.

one thing I can say though is that I thoroughly enjoyed Art's character and persona. He had many layers to him, I enjoyed that aspect. The heroine? well, without the drama there wouldn't be a story, right? Most of the other characters remained on a superficial level.

I might just be getting too old for these types of reads perhaps.

Wow I LOVED this book!! Dark romance is my jam and this fed my greedy dark soul! I also have a weakness for toxic relationships, which Art & Cin are deliciously toxic. They are every bit wrong as they are right for each other. They are maddening and physical with each other, but Cin is the first dose of love and human connection he’s ever had. While Art is Cins dose of passion and Heat, mixed with intense love. I craved every moment between them and this is definitely a series I won’t want to end. I could not get enough and devoured it in 4 hours. Now I have to figure out how I’m going to survive through this cliffhanger.

The Collision.
Art and Cin collide as two magnets would. They find it hard to pull part and even harder to stay together. This beautiful collision will destroy something they both want and they both need, but are looking for in different ways-Love. The question is will Art and Cin survive this collision, fit enough to walk away or is this really a wreak to be written off as it is too damaged? This is only part 1. This book makes you scared to turn the page as you don't want to see the damage to come.
Excellent writing Ms Allen.

I would have seriously given the book 5 stars had the writing style been better. Though the plot was on point, the pace was too fast! I felt there were certain times where instead of properly describing, the author rushed through the points, often times dismissing important details.
But I loved the plot, the toxicity , the angst and hence 4 ⭐️
Had the writing been better, it would have been nothing short of a 5 star read ;)

THE REVIEW FOR THE BOOK WHEN THE ART RISES BY LORRAIN ALLEN

GENRE: CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE.

TYPELIVING IN CIN
POV: FIRST PERSON..WITH DUAL POV.
RATING: 5 SCHORCHING HOT STAR..

This book was mind-boggling for me. The chemistry between the characters was off the chart.
......ARTHUR 'ÁRT' AND CINNAMON 'CIN' had to overcome so many dramas to be together.
ART was anything but a hero. As the author told..he was an antihero. He was mean and cold to her.
The theme was indeed dark even though it was a highschool theme book.
ART was hot and can fulfill any dark fantasy.

WARNING:WILL NEED A COLD SHOWER AFTER READING THIS BOOK.
This book has tonnes of triggers that should not be taken lightly.

No spoilers in this review. This book is a roller-coaster, to say the least. I read it all in one sitting as I couldn't wait to see what happens next with the main characters. Art is not a hero but he is compelling on levels. Cin is also a complicated but interesting character. The two of them together is just combustible. What is fascinating to me about this book is the characters can make bad choices or be frustrating at times but you always understand what makes them do what they do even if you don't agree with them. I am eagerly anticipating the second book in this duo to see where everything settles. "When Art Rises" is an incredibly engrossing dark romance.

This book is an emotional roller coaster that you don’t want to get off of. I couldn’t put it down once I started. The plot is excellent, and the romance is hot. Cin is so relatable, I was cheering her on the entire time. And Art, his story is so heartbreaking. He isn’t always the easiest to love but he is impossible to hate. This book is dark romance at it’s finest and I loved every minute. Beautifully written. I cannot wait for the next book.

Amazing story of a love that shouldn’t be. Art is beyond messed up. Cin has it all together, but deep down, maybe she’s a little bit messed up, too. While trying to find his downfall, Art is rescued by the last person anyone would ever guess. The question is, will Cin survive the aftermath. I can’t wait for the next book!

I couldn't put this down and read it in one sitting. Art and Cin have explosive passion which stirs Art back to life after the tragedy which broke his heart. His pain and anger made me feel for him so much and I fully excused his bad behaviour, lashing out, and self destructive actions. Every single word was believable and touched me deeply, it was dark, hot, hurtful, painful and honest. This is the stuff that happens when you don't care about the consequences any more.

100% amazing Lorrain. Congrats xoxo

Boy!! I have truly enjoyed my first ever roller coaster ride! Art and Cin story was explosive very beginning to the end. Their relationship was both sweet and heartbreaking. The pain and hurt that Art endured was devastating. Cin was what Art needed to feel normal again. Their loved and trust was not easy to achieve. I can’t wait to read the conclusion and finally get off this roller coaster!!!

This was a pleasant surprise! The complicated and dirty story of Art (Rich, bad boy, fighter, troubled teen) and Cin (Popular, has goals, passionate, track star). There was a horrific tragedy in Art's life as a child that has mentally scarred him. He is a cutter, tried to take his life and he is angry. ANGRY. He is really angry. He ended up moving in with his uncle and his family and brings his baggage and anger to his new home. Cin is the popular track star who is in love with her All-American boyfriend. Cin and her boyfriend have plans for a future together during college and post college. When Cin and Art meet...it's electric!!

Art takes anger to a whole new level. I'm just a sucker for the damaged bad boys. Like Cin, I was instantly attracted to him, wanted to understand him and fix him. Art's pursuit of Cin were some of the best parts of the book. He had to have her and would go crazy without her. Cin...yuck! That's all I'm going to say.

I'm really glad I found this book and I can't wait to read the next installment. I think this is my first book by this author and it will not be my last.

Why Not 5 Stars?
Cin...yuck!

OMGGGGG. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT.
I have no problem with cheating books but I need decent characters! The hero in this book cheats on his pregnant fiance at the very end of the duet and then makes her watch him fuck someone else because of a misunderstanding!!?????
Later tells her to get over it because it was just sex?? HE NEVER SAYS SORRY, NEVER EVEN THINKS ABOUT IT.
HE IS DISGUSTING OMGGGG I COULD GO IN THE BOOK AND KILL HIM. Such a waste omg.
I rarely rant like this, but I can't control it this time.
And the heroine? She was this weak WEAKKKKKK WOMAN who just wanted sex. He just slept with someone else in front of her and bam, she still sleeps with him. I don't even know why I read this.
I am just sooo freaking pissed off dammit.
He is the one who cheats on her multiple times and is always ranting that she cheats on him and how she is a whore and how she can't be trusted!!!! WHAT THE HELL. I HATE HIM. OMG, I WOULD HAVE DANCED HAD HE DIED IN THIS BOOK.

Sad to say, I just couldn't get into this book like Allen's other books. I've been waiting months for this book, but it just lacked the magic the other books possessed. I dislike both Cin and Art. There wasn't any real connection and spark. Its a DNF at 60%, I'm afraid.
