The Windsome Tree: A Ghost Story

Rate this book
Mercy Amoretto, a grieving mother of four who lost her youngest child to leukemia, finds an old rope and a tire in her garage and, in a fanciful moment, creates a tire swing. Unknown to her, the rope, the tire, and the tree share a violent history. Once connected, that history is unleashed in the form of two child spirits from decades past. While on the swing, Mercy hears cryptic messages from the spirits and believes the voices are key to finding her dead daughter. Hope turns to horror when two of her children begin to taunt her in torturous ways, and when they go missing, all eyes turn to Mercy. She’s convinced the ghosts are to blame, but how can anyone believe her when only she hears the voices?

Holy Sugar Plums !!! ( I say Sugar Plums because I don’t like to curse….but if I did I would use another word beginning with the letter S )

The Windsome Tree by Eileen Albrizio is an amazing story and I could honestly see this book being turned into a movie if the right person got their hands on it.

In The Windsome Tree you are hanging around with the Amoretto family, mainly Mercy. Mercy is married to Donovan and they have 4 children, 3 living and one that passed. While Mercy is still trying to wrap her head around the fact that her youngest daughter, Lisa. died from leukemia, take care of the house, her husband, the twins, Kira and Kaitlyn and her son Josh, wierd things start to happen. When their therapist suggests cleaning and decluttering their lives, Mercy and her best friend and neighbor, Mary Beth find an old tire and some rope in the garage. Mary Beth takes the tire and rope and makes a tire swing in the back yard. As soon as Mercy gets on the tire and starts swinging, she hears a girl humming and a boy talking…..she thinks that it is Lisa reaching out to her and when she starts to hear the girl call for “Momma” she is more convinced. Unfortunately no one believes her and no one can hear what she hears.

As Mercy becomes obsessed with riding the tire swing to hear the voices, especially the girl’s, something unexplanable happens to her son Josh and one of the twins, Kira. No matter what Mercy says, no one will believe her…….until Josh and Kira almost die !

When the Don and Kaitlyn finally see for themselves what Mercy was saying all along, it might be to late to save them…….

Reading The Windsome Tree is like watching a movie unfold on the pages…..like I said I could honestly see this turning into a movie and opening on Friday the 13th or around Halloween. I am not one for scary movies but reading this book is so much more than a scary movie. The story and the way Albrizio draws the reader in and holds their attention is amazing. Once you start reading this story, it will have a hold on you like the tire swing did with Mercy. There are some spots in the book where the reader will hold their breath as well as other times they will be breathing hard and their heart will be racing.

The BEST thing about The Windsome Tree is that it will impact the reader and will remain in your mind for days after you finish reading it and that is what I call a GREAT BOOK !!!! On a 10 star rating scale, I would give The Windsome Tree a 12 and author Albrizio a 15 because she blows my mind !!!

Poetic, gripping, page-turner. This book exceeded all my expectations. Eileen's poetic descriptions made me feel like I was right there with Mercy, experiencing her grief and fear. Eileen skillfully wove the stories of several time periods to create a novel that withstands time. This novel kept me awake late at night, continuously reading in anxious anticipation of the next piece of the story. The effects of the book lingered so that my mind and heartbeat continued to race, long after I put the book down.
