You know that bitch from hell everybody talks about? That's me. I mean that literally.
I was born in the seventh circle of Hell to two demons of noble lineage. Know what that means? Squat. My brimstone birth certificate and five bucks might get me a cup of coffee from Starbucks. The minute I was born, they handed me off to a wet nurse, sent me to earth, and left me to fend for myself. I suppose, I should thank them. They taught me at an early age that there is nothing in either world more important than self-sufficiency.
To survive, I needed money. So, naturally, I became a stripper.
Don't judge, it paid the bills. A lot of them. And it provided a solution to my particular dietary requirements. I'm a succubus. We eat lust for breakfast. And lunch. And dinner. What better place to get it than a seedy, smoke-filled bar full of horndogs shoving dollar bills in your thong?
Life was good.
Then, I met Ryan and fell in love. He knew what I was and loved me anyway. I loved him so much that we got married and I gave him twin children. And then he died.
And left me alone.
Okay, not completely alone. He left me two kids to raise and a crippling sense of loss.
So, I did what any demon would do, I loaded up the kids and moved a thousand miles to start a new life. Now, my Hell is in suburbia and the most evil things in my life are my home owners' association and the PTA. Maybe it wasn't too late to go back to Hell.
This book is intended for mature audiences. 18+ readers only! It contains graphic language, sexual situations, and inappropriate humor. This is a fast burn reverse harem where the girl gets all the guys. Why Choose? Contains M/M and F/F scenes.
Kara might be a lousy mom, a stripper and a succubus but she’s a bit of a role model. Open minded, honest, confident, she doesn’t wait for things to happen but takes her life in her own hands. Girl power!
Succubus stripper Kara met and fell in love with her husband Ryan and birthed 2 children, unfortunately he died in an accident. After a year of grieving and almost starving her demon she packed up and moved, her new life as a soccer mom and pole dancing teacher/business owner started off well but quickly spiraled as another demon decided to take her down. With her cambion children and her lovers Kara was able to fight fire..... With water.... And move on to her happily ever after.
******** Truth is I didn't realize this was the same author as the lovin the coven series, I honestly would've skipped this book if I had. OTT can be fun, I mean there's a reason why authors like Alexa Riley are popular, but sometimes OTT can just plain be too much. This book unfortunately fell into that catergory, from Kara's role as a stripper feeding on lust, to her role as the slutty dumb mom, to the men who'd do anything for her in the fastest relationship development in history, to her female lover being the sister of one of the guys, to the humor and the sex scenes it was ALL just too much Again another book from this author ends abruptly as the demon is killed off but there's no comfortable resolution to the relationships. It reads as a to be continued rather than a HEA or even a HFN
All in all I didn't enjoy this as much as I'd have liked
RH The H's are almost copy and pasted from the lovin the coven series The cop(Chief without the grumpiness The freaky one who in spite of being married for years has no problem being sexually active with his best friend and is turned on by sharing Kara(Jimmy and Dennis anyone?? And we get the new development of a female, considering she's sharing the h with her brother and his best friend it was just a little overdone The vampire may be added soon, who knows
This author seems to delight in selfish h's, they have multiple partners but refuse to share their men. The relationships just never seem to develop well
This was pure fun. I enjoyed reading it and laughed much more than I thought. It is cool how she's a succubus and not ashamed of it or her love/need for sex. She just does AND has super open communication about partners with her partners. I'm not sure how she had kids considering she keeps telling people she can't get pregnant, buuuttt that's a little thing. Honestly, it's fun, I laughed, and really fell in love with the down to Earth characters.
This was another hilarious and filthy book from Jacquelyn Faye. This author has a great turn of phrase and is incredibly witty. She can make the most unrealistic of plots seem credible and her characters are brilliant.
In this instance the book is about a succubus, Kara, who is a 60 year old widow with teenaged twins. Kara was a stripper for year when she met her husband. She fell in love and let him talk her into having a kid, turned out to be twins but as he agreed to do all the parenting stuff, she was ok with it. Apparently demons don’t really do child rearing and usually just abandon their kids to the nearest available being to raise.
When Kara got up a year after the death of her husband and decided enough was enough she moved herself and her kids several states away to get away from all the memories and moved into a Boston suburb, enrolled her kids in private school and settled in to the neighbourhood, where she was surprisingly welcomed with open arms.
This scenario is ridiculous. A succubus soccer mom with all the petty rivalries and jealousies that occur when the new hot mom moves in, just makes me laugh at the thought of it. Then when it’s execution is so well done, the giggling definitely gets out of hand.
Kara is a demon, but she’s not evil. She loves her kids, she just doesn’t understand them. She mourns her husband who she loved and she cares about people in her life. She’s a lusty being who is open and honest about her lusts and there are plenty of very hot and steamy scenes in this book, as you would expect with a book about a succubus. However, it’s the humour that I loved the most about this book. I particularly enjoyed Kara’s interactions with her next door neighbour Karen who is a typical PTA mom who welcomes her to the neighbourhood with cake and a smile. She’s overbearing and bossy, but sweet and kind and Kara comes to like her despite herself. Their banter is funny initially because Karen has no clue about Kara, but as they become better friends, the banter becomes more knowing. It’s very well done.
The info in the back of the books says this is a standalone book, but I really wish this was the start of a series because the characters are wonderful and I’m sure there is plenty of material to work with. I’m pretty sure the author will never see this review, but if she does - can we have another Kara book, pretty please 🙏
Kara Dell, a succubus and a stripper decides to move to another town along with her two cambion kids, Ryn and Karl, as the death of her innocent husband is a bit too much for her. In Bickering, she starts over and lives life her own way, not giving two damns about what people think about her except the ones that matter the most.
I feel like Kara's attitude is one all girls should have, atleast a part of it if not all. Confident, care-free, unapologetic and comfortable in her skin. She stands up for herself, does what she wants and is not hostile unless someone triggers her. She knows what she wants and she goes after it, isn't afraid to speak her mind and is probably one among the boldest women I've read about. Rather than being uncomfortable about the fact that she was a stripper, she enjoys her profession and loves her time on the pole.
It felt that the guys were more of an accessory to the book. The were there to empower Kara (not that she needed encouragement), rather than having complex backstories for themselves.
The book itself was pretty simple and straightforward. The plot was about discovering who was attacking the people in the town. There was nothing too complex. We only barely skim the surface of Kara's past. Nothing about her parents or how hell is and stuff.
One thing that surprised me was how everyone who knew the actual truth was able to guess that she was a succubus. It took me four or maybe more months of reading fantasy before I stumbled upon Incubi and Succubi. Vampires, werewolves and witches are common knowledge. Maybe even Fairies and pixies and elves and stuff like that. But, people around me were surprised when I mention the word Fae or Faerie to them, and we all know that they are an important species in the fantasy world. Succubi are even rarer. So I, for one, was really surprised when almost all of them guessed she was a succubus or atleast knew what a succubus is without any explanation. Am I the only one who didn't know them until later on? Please don't tell me succubae are mentioned in Twilight or something.
Overall, a very good book. Humourous, a good time-passer. But, I found it weird that this book is only 229 pages long. Seriously? It felt like more to me. Maybe just my imagination. Also, was that a cliffhanger? I mean, it is a standalone so there won't be a sequel but seriously? A date? Fine. Whatever.
I really really liked it. And the rating would've been higher, but I didn't love some of the plot.
When I first read the sample, I wanted to read the story about Kara the succubus stripper and her sweet husband. In fact I wanted to read that story so badly that I moved on to other books when he died. Not a spoiler since it's in the description and happens in the prologue.
When I finished daydreaming about their love story and let that dream die, I gave this book another chance. And I'm glad I did because it was sexy, witty and totally captivating. I just had to keep reading about Kara and how she dealt with all the crap moms apparently have to deal with.
My only problem was the ending. I just didn't like the author's resolution, the story wasn't fulfilling to me. Other than that, I enjoyed how Kara's relationships progressed. It was hot.
I usually don't seek out funny books. I have long known how my sense of humor is broken because I'm the type to laugh in untimely moments or how I have to lay down a rapport with the plot and/or the characters before I personally find them funny. Sometimes I get references I already found funny in the first place for my sense of humor to connect. Overall, it's rather a complictated matter for such a...basic nature.
So back to public-claimed funny reads, more often than not, I don't find them funny at all. As in 9 out of 10 people, laughed out loud and enjoyed them. (Guess who's the the one unlucky person.) I don't, of course, want to rain on other people's parade so I just move on with my slightly more misreable than ever life.
BUT.
I really loved this one. Such a huge bonus that I can personally attest to its wicked sense of humor. Wicked as in mischievous and charming and laugh out loud funny for me. And I admit, wicked bad.
PS (additional) The steam level was off the charts high. I almost wished I had someone with me to get through it /lesigh
Absolutely amazing! I literally laughed out loud so much, I had people randomly looking at me 😂. Kara was bold, crass, and rough around the edges but in a great way. She says all the things that you are thinking but society seems rude. She is also vulnerable and not used to acceptance from many but her late husband. The intimate scenes were great, though I wanted one with a certain cop... The only reason I took off a star was that we didn't get much depth from her Harem. We got snippets, just not well rounded character really, even the kids. However it really didn't detract much from the book's hilarity as Kara is definitely a showstopper! Loved it and would definitely recommend.
I loved this book so much. I can't even put it all into words. It's hilarious. It's sexy. It's endearing. It's everything. Try it, you'll like it! But, he prepared to read it in one sitting because you won't want to put it down.
4 stars A perfect little pick me up after the last book I read was far from impressive. I absolutely loved the FMC. She Had attitude, a back bone, and was exactly the kind of person I would like to be. Unfortunately she did have a tendency to be a bit of a special snowflake but nothing too crazy. Overall a sweet book. I will be looking into other books that the author has written.
Always in the mood for fresh fuck giving succubi. If I could choose the way I die, this is it. If I could choose a supernatural being I'd like to be reborn as, the answer is still the same.
Good writing and unique story, yet I'm still wavering between 3.5 and 4 stars. I felt like something was missing on page, including the sexy scenes. Don't get me wrong, there were scenes, but they felt like it was a prelude to something that never showed up. And there were jumps in time at most new chapters whereas I would have liked to have seen what happened on page rather than be told about it having already happened. And my other issue is, I'm not sure I'd call this book a RH. Sure Kara had 4 lovers (one of which was female, in case anyone needs to know before reading) who were open to her having those other people but besides the first two, there wasn't a group connection between any of them. It just felt like the fmc was with a bunch of people. Which is fine, but I feel like that is more Why Choose than RH, and those two are very different in my mind. All that said, I wish there were more to this book, and I'd happily read more of this group.
I’m totally underrating this book because I literally said out loud “you asshole!” to the author when the last chapter finished! Am I acting like a child because I didn’t get what I want from the ending (more!!), knowing it’s not a series? Fuck yes!
For a sci-fi bisexual reverse harem (I say RH instead of poly bc the RH trope is very apparent bc the FMC is the badass that all her mates worship), this didn’t seem like it wasn’t out of the realm of possibility if living in the the world that was forged by the author.
Just a family trying to restart their lives after tragedy, moving to a new city and trying to live a normal life… but of course “normal” is not in the FMC’s repertoire.
Despite the morose reasons for the move, seeing the FMC slowly regain her self confidence by being brave despite the situations… it was actually quite funny!! So sassy! I really did enjoy this book way more than I expected!
One of my all time favourite paranormal tropes is a supernatural trying to fit in with humans, and this book does it the best by far!!
Kara is a fantastic protagonist. She's witty and fierce, but has layers of emotion as she's learning to raise her teenage kids without their father. Jacquelyn Faye knows how to write some of the funniest banter, and this book is some of her greatest work!
I also enjoyed each of her love interests. This book shows how polygamy can work for people, with a supernatural twist of course. Each of the partners have their own quirks and compliment Kara's character in a different way.
And I can't forget the kids! I was worried that Karl and Ryn would be sidelined through the book, but they're fully fleshed out characters wobbling through teenage awkwardness.
This book really isn't one to miss. Check it out, now!
One I couldn’t put this book down. I had to read nonstop from beginning till end!!! This is my first book read of Jacquelyn Faye and now I’m obsessed! I loveeeee Kara character.
I definitely want more!! I would love to see what happens with her new date. I won’t say who!! Lol 😝 🥰🥰🥰 you have to read to find out!!
Each of the side characters were soooo entertaining including her kids. They are really awesome kids!!
Of course you have your villain who you just want to smack lol but Kara always finds her way to put the mean trolls in their place that’s what really make this story unique. Kara is a mom who don’t take crap from no one. I definitely recommend this book!! Crossing fingers we get more soon!!
Love it! But i love this author so i knew i would. Despite usually not reading anything with f/f or m/m this was defs towards the more tolerable side of things and important to the story not just chucked in like a lot of RHs will. Reminds me a bit of the dianthe series & a bit like lost girl tv show. Defs read if you like RH & either love or can tolerate non straight stuff in books. Theres only really one small scene for m/m and f/f btw and yes shes a syccubus but shes living in 'the real world suburbia' so its not like its fantasy adventure or fantasy world its defs more a hiding in plain sight bewitched vibe.
I loved this story. My main complaint about it is I need more smutty scenes xD. Oh and there needs to be more books based on these characters cuz I fell in love and that ending has me like NEEDING not just needing but NEEDING more! Also I wish it had mpov cuz I needed the insight into if the guys will end up more than cockolds lol.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
As if I thought it would be anything otherwise. Great book. Slightly outrageous, a lot of ridiculous a boatload of hotness and enough love to kickstart even my cold undead heart. Looking forward to more!
Kara is a succubus working as a stripper until she meets Ryan. Their relationship goes well for them until Ryan dies leaving Kara to care for their two teen children. Upon moving to a new place to leave behind the memories, Kara meets new people to keep her entertained and fed.
I loved how throughout the story Kara didn't try to fit in. She was a demon and proud of it. She didn't try to pass for a human, and she said everything that passes though her mind. I also liked how her harem had both males and females.
I liked it, but it feels like there should be more coming. She didn't go on her date with Michel. Is she going to start a relationship with Grendel? Does the town accept her and the kids?
It just seems to end with more that could potentially happen.
Succubus Soccer Mom is a decent option for standalone fluff. It's light and finds some funny moments in the suburbian life for a succubus alongside the romance.
I quite liked the idea of seeing a succubus playing a soccer mom role and as such, I anticipated seeing interactive scenes with her kids but I wished the kids had more presence in the story than what we see. Interactions with other side characters like Karen were fun and stops the book from being too sex heavy with the task of fitting all of the harem members in this one standalone book.
Kara is a nice FMC who is unproblematic and easy to read through as a POV. The rest of the characters don't have much but their interactions with Kara flow well. The plot of course isn't a priority in the book but it's still decent enough to work for the pacing and the events happening in the story.
For the times you want to read a no brainer book that you can finish in one setting, Succubus Soccer Mom should be on that list.
If I ever decide to have kids, I'd be like Kara: unapologetic and hot with a dash of hidden motherly love.
This book was a light-hearted peek into the world of the supernatural. I always want my heroines feisty, and Kara did not disappoint; her blatant confidence in herself was a soothing balm against my rage towards spineless heroines. The exciting part of the story was the way she found the members of her harem one individual at a time; I was never sure who they were going to be until they'd met, and that gave the story a sense of mystery because I also didn't know how many she'd have by the end. I love the M/M action happening because repressed feelings are always a kink of mine. I am an absolute hoe for those kinds of feelings. And experimenting? Oh gods give it to me. I was uncomfortable with the time jumps between their relationships though. I felt cheated that I didn't get to see their relationship grow properly. One chapter she was talking about M2 to M1, and the next chapter she was happily settled with M1 and M2 without us being shown the natural progression of their relationship. Really wish there was something inserted in between—even a first threesome scene 0r a happily fulfilled date—so we wouldn't feel cheated or anything.
As for the conflict, it was exciting enough. There was certainly something working against her. For a heart-stopping split-second, I actually thought it was going to be because come on, y'all: We're dealing with the supernatural, and anything can happen. The real culprit behind the attacks was surprising, to say the least, because there was no foreshadowing at all. I like it when I get hit with an "OMG IT WAS THERE ALL ALONG! IT MAKES SENSE!" reaction because it makes my reading worthwhile. The reveal just didn't have much oomph to it.
However, I do admire everyone's capacity to be open with one another, and in a polyamorous relationship, that is even more important. This was no "the conflict could have been avoided if we'd just told each other the truth" conundrum; this was a "we told each other the truth, and that's why we're working together as a team and trusting each other" situation—and it was so damn successful. I've only had one other author show me the latter, and that's Tiffany Reisz. I guess I'll be adding Jacquelyn Faye to that list.
All in all, the ending was good enough and opened up the realm of possibility. If this were to have a short novella detailing their lives in the future, I'd be more than happy to read it. Cheers!
As with many books - or let's say all -, it wasn't perfect. This book was meant to be as some sort of buffer, before I read my next series. Sometimes, you just need something fast and relaxed. And the book sounded funny, and I had it on my list a long time.
But as always, after reading a book, it's hard to rate it right. Since, it wasn't a bad book, it was really fast. I mean in the progress department. She is a succubus. Ok. I get it, that it is their trait to attract and enrapture the people around them. But there should be a better relationship building. There was nearly none. Worse. The 'get to know'-phase is skipped. So, one moment she asked for a date and then there are two weeks past, and they had several.
I know, it's a standalone. And that's the reason why parts aren't written-out as deeply as they should. But rushing the story isn't good either. It felt bereft.
And the FMC is another kind of problem. I liked her. She wasn't dumb, and I like the 'don't give a fuck' attitude. But she has issues with feelings and all that. So, because of that, she doesn't admit anything of her emotions. And that's the reason I don't feel the 'love' and relationship, she has with them. That is directly linked to the rushed plot, too.
The last issue, I have, is with the end of the book. It ended too abrupt. It didn't like it, when a new possible guy is announced, and then we don't get to know about it. Because the book ends. That's not fair. So, it was like reading a cliffhanger, without solving the situation.
So, the rating isn't easy. Because I really enjoyed it. It has good humor and the characters were interesting/likeable. Even if I didn't get to know them that well. But I can't ignore what I didn't like. Saying that, I give the 4 stars, but only because I can't rate anything between 3 and 4 stars. My rating would otherwise be 3.5 stars. Probably 3.45 stars. To indicate that it goes more in the direction of 3 stars, than the 4. But I don't want to give only 3 stars, because it doesn't feel sufficed. And it wouldn't be fair.
The book has the potential to be more. That is saying, if there would be a follow-up or a short novella about that book, I would totally read it. Because I want to know more.
I adored every second of this book. Kara’s personality is everything I love in the best type of FMC. I was laughing out loud so much, that it was almost embarrassing, and the little heart felt moments made my chest feel all mushy.
I loved that the FMC is the protector, that the guys don’t act all macho when she tells them to do things like run to save their lives. I love how confident in her libido she is, and I especially love how she act toward her kids. I found this book refreshing and hilarious, and almost oh-so perfect.
*spoilers below*
However, the ending seemed... off to me. The twist was good, definitely, but I don’t like that Kara never once suspected that she was a demon. Kara noticed the vampire, and she has instincts like no other. The fact that she’d never sense another demon betrays a key point in the books plot build up.
I would have liked to see the vampire in the harem, to be honest. I get that Kara was wary and suspicious of him at first, but I would have liked to see that dynamic play out. Though, the ending did hint at that, so I felt a bit satisfied.
I’m also unsure why, in the end, Kara never once thought “lets blow lust at the fire demon” when they were fighting. If her lust doesn’t work on other demons, I would have liked to have been told that (unless I skipped over it by accident) but seeing as I don’t think I was, I found it weird that Kara never once thought “hey, im a succubus. ill use that to distract her.” Especially because the entire story, she was talking about how she was the big-bad in the story.
All in all though, I adored this book. It was *almost* perfect.
This was fun and kinda silly and definitely a good break to listen to between more serious or heavy reads but what the hell was that ending? It just. Cuts off? It’s an implied HEA but it’s not definitive, we don’t really know if the arrangement they have is going to stick. It’s all very up in the air. There are basically no declarations of love from any of the main characters beyond “I’d take a bullet for you” which the FMC even says isn’t that serious since she wouldn’t die from it being a demon and all. I know she’s already done the whole soul mate thing with her deceased husband but it feels so surface level, I kept expecting there to be more feelings or something that brings them all together. There was def the chance for it, the framework was there…
I was also told it was a great RH with FF, but there is way more time with the first two guys (both individually and together) rather than with the woman, the third guy is mostly a hinderance throughout the book rather than another partner too — they’re all supposed to be equal in her eyes but idk, felt more like the author was testing the waters to see if readers would revolt at the inclusion of a woman and the cop was just an after thought.
Sorry this is kind of all over the place but honestly so was the book 😅 I kept expecting the vamp to get involved. I kept waiting for feels. There could definitely be a second book with how much was left open. But it’s listed as a standalone.
This was such an amazing and funny read, but that shouldn't surprise you when you've read other books by this author.
Kara, the heroine in this book, isn't really the poster child for devoted parenting. She's a succubus, a demon, and succubi aren't know for their loving parenting skills. But she promised her late husband to look after their kids and she'd never break a promise, so she does it in her own way, which results in some hilarious scenes. Kara is really open about everything, which is a bit of a shock for people in general, because, let's face it, even when you're as outspoken as they come, you'll probably still blush a little when you would meet Kara in real life. I'd love to by the way. She's a kickass parent and woman despite her lack of traditional parenting skills.
She draws attention wherever she goes, especially of the male variety, which leads to gathering a few lovers and making a few enemies from those who envy her.
There's not a thing in this book that I didn't enjoy... Unless the fact that it ended with a bit of a teaser which made me want to read so much more about these characters. Don't worry though, no cliffhanger, this book has a great and happy ending (for now). But please, please, please, let there be more! Pretty please?
I really enjoyed this new book by Jacquelyn Faye. I would even say that I like it better than her Lovin' the Coven series.
As said in the summary and title, Kara is a mom. The book starts by explaining how she met her husband, Ryan. This was a nice place to begin, as it gives very crucial background information. The basic plot of this book is Kara and her twin teenagers moving houses and even states while learning how to move on from the death of Ryan. As a succubus, Kara attracts attention in their new town, and she eventually creates a consensual poly relationship with her two men and one woman. (And possibly one on the way in book two.)
This book felt very authentic. For instance: -Kara is a succubus. So she has fed herself by being a stripper, and was in no way ashamed of this.
-Her husband of several years actually clued into the fact that she was not human.
- This book claims that demons and succubi in particular are not good parents. This shows in her relationship with her kids, but does not stay static. She grows as the book goes on.
Succubus Soccer Mom is a primo reverse harem novel with a very steady-and interesting!- plot. I would definitely recommend it.
