Delicious Victorian Gender Swap Romance

Oh, my! Was this ever a fun book! Don't take it seriously; just go along for the ride. Our ultimate heroine actually begins the book as a male scientist who is the laughingstock of the scientific community, and specifically his scientific society, because he wants to create a potion that will turn him into a woman so he can scientifically figure out what makes women tick—yes, by being one. You certainly get a sense in the first pages that he is beleaguered and distraught by the way he is treated, scorned, and looked down upon. There is a personal nemesis as well, the head of that scientific society. But when this character creates a potion that actually does turn him into a woman—that's when it gets fun and interesting. I love the attempt he makes at a scientific detachment and his take on what it is to be a woman. In a fantastic plot move, our gender-swap scientist starts to develop romantic feelings for his old nemesis. That's a twist on the enemies-to-lovers trope that I've not seen before. If this intrigues you at all, I suggest you pick up the book. It's a relatively quick-read novella and made me laugh and smile more than once.

I just have two quibbles with the book. Given that this takes place in Victorian England, the title should be Dr. Jekyll and Miss Hyde, as *Ms.* was not a title back then. And while the cover model is beautiful, she is certainly not wearing Victorian dress. Other than that, though, the book itself is truly a delectable treat.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

I was a bit disappointed

This is a very romantic story the title, however, leads one to think that a more sinister story would be attached to it.
