I reread this book two years after first reading and got more from it this time than I did last time. Both times it has been a 5/5 for me. If you are interested in making art intuitively, this is an excellent book for considering the various elements that make up an interesting composition and, more importantly, that will lead to insights or, what the author calls, magical coincidences. There are also lots of gorgeous art spreads to inspire.

This happens occasionally... I rearranged pages and added art details to her original. This book was visually so inspiring and was great fun to take apart and put back together again...took it to another level > I have looked thru my book shelves and cannot find it. It must be at my hideaway, 6 hours North...so I can't show you now.

An interesting read. Lots of pictures and exercises to get you making your own pages. I think I would have got more out of it as a beginner to art journaling, but that’s not a reflection of the quality of the book.

This book provides some answers to the “why” art journalers work the way they do. I remember Teesha Moore doing demo videos and when people asked why she did something, she couldn’t explain it. It was intuitive. This book actually provides some answers and helps you create a visual page using the intuitive process. It has step by step instructions but the instructions lean more toward how to pull from within yourself. I am excited about applying some of these tips in my own art journaling and finally having insight into the process. It’s not about thinking, it’s about feeling and letting your subconscious take over.

Lavishly illustrated with pages from Rafekat’s own journals. Outlines different techniques for creating backgrounds, collages, themes etc. mostly a mixed-media style of journalling. Though I wish these instructions had been more detailed, still better than some other books I’ve read. Brief section on colour theory. Emphasis very much on journalling as a method of exploring emotions, life experiences, either stand-alone or adjunct to other therapies. Also on intuition, the “why” of how people journal & produce what they do.

I participated in a mini-class led by art therapist, Rakefet Hadar, online, which is what led me to her book. Because I had gone through a guided imagery and art journal page with her in person (very revealing!,) then I found this book interesting to read. I don't know if it would have been as comprehensible without that experience. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys art journaling as another way to approach the practice.

I liked the way she broke down the techniques. I feel inspired to play with visual journaling in the near future.

Not my sort of art journaling. I lean toward a more minimalist approach. Still interesting to skim.

Such a beautiful book! Inspiring. Informative. I’d like to own this physically. I think it’s also been helpful just practically in learning about her process of art journaling. This one really touches my heart.

I like this art therapist’s approach to visual journaling. She gives a solid foundation but also includes room for the subconscious to be expressed creatively.
