The Caduceus

Rate this book
England
1600s An old woman is stoned to death for witchcraft
1800s A young girl is incarcerated in a mental asylum
Present day
An evening of past-life regression sees single mother, Dinah going back through time to find herself as Flora, an innocent and ethereal girl living in late nineteenth-century England. Flora has found true love with a local farmworker, but her peaceful world is about to be shattered by the appearance of a menacing and unwanted suitor. She is in fear for her life.
Shaken by the experience, and feeling restless and bored, Dinah decides it is time for change. She prays for guidance and follows the omens to the mysterious market town of Porrick - only to find the people she meets there are all strangely familiar…

The sacred Caduceus speaks of brining balance to opposing forces within – shadow and light, masculine and feminine, good and evil. Originating in Ancient Egypt, it says that only by balancing our internal worlds will we achieve harmony externally.

The first thing I noticed about The Caduceus was the book’s beautiful front cover depicting an oak tree against a soft jade green background. It drew me in and it wasn’t long before I was immersed in the story of Dinah, a single mother unhappy with her crazy city life who follows her inner guidance to embark on a new, more fulfilling life for herself and her boys in the delightful-sounding country town of Porrick.

Dinah is spiritually aware and has strong connections with the Angels and elementals which I found fascinating. In her search for love, she travels back in time to revisit herself in two past lifetimes and discovers that what happened to her then has had an immense impact on the shaping of her character in this life, going some way to explain why she is constantly drawn to the ‘wrong’ people romantically. Something many of us can probably relate to.

Central to the book is the theme of the downfall and persecution of the Feminine over the centuries and how in order to bring back balance to our world, to save the planet from destruction and our race from eventual extinction, the Feminine must be reunited with the Masculine in peace and equality. I found this aspect of the story very compelling. Powerful food for thought, and a beautifully written and engaging story.

I really enjoyed reading this beautiful and unique book. Everything about it is special and magical from the cover, to the title to what lies between the pages.
The story draws you in from the outset, a book that is hard to put down and keeps you up all night reading, to find out more.
The character of Dinah is compelling and easy to relate to - the magical, spiritual world she inhabits, alongside the everyday, is strangely familiar and very interesting.
I love the past and present interwoven and the idea of threads connecting us throughout many lives.
This is a very intelligent and thoughtful novel full of interesting ideas and messages for life.
Lucie has a great writing style and is a wonderful storyteller.
You won’t be disappointed.

Thoroughly enjoyable read for those who would like to dip their toe into the otherworld of possibilities. Caduceus takes you into a magical realm of deity’s, angels and fairy’s. Set mainly in a Devon town called Porrick famed for those who are searching for an alternate life style. Dinah discovers her past lives are entwining with and influencing the choices she makes guiding her through a love story that is trying to break the circle of time.

I really enjoyed this book , which was recommended by a friend. I grew fond of the main character, Dinah, who drew you into the story which took you into the past and the present day.. She’s a strong, determined character though also shows her vulnerability. She goes through much soul searching and hardship and seems to get stronger as the story progresses.

I liked the writing style and the way the story unfolded.

Do read it , I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, it’s just that bit different.

Really enjoyed this, particularly the main character Dinah, and the way her present day story is told through her conversations. And the past is interwoven so well as this unfolds into a story of conflict, betrayal, spirituality and ultimately healing. The writer is a natural storyteller.
