DC Renee’s Scrubbed is a heart-felt, emotional, fun, and sexy contemporary romance written in K. Bromberg’s Everyday Heroes World project.
It was supposed to be a straight-forward contest. Everyday heroes. May the best one win.
I was going to shine, to show my own hero, Sidney, that I had what it takes to make it at Modern Family. Not to mention, I’d get to learn from her. Well, that part I did. Learn, that is.
And I even had the perfect contestant, the one I knew was going to win it all. Noah Shields, doctor and hottie. I’m talking the “you can scrub me down anytime you want, doctor” type of hottie. One problem. He didn’t want anything to do with the contest. Or me. He didn’t think he deserved the hero title.
He was wrong.
He was a hero. No, correction, he is a hero. He just needed a push to see it for himself without letting the demons from his past and the heartache he was harboring taint the good man he truly was.
I was just supposed to help him see – from the goodness of my own heart. That’s the thing, I involved my heart. And when that sucker came into play, I was no longer playing for him to win the contest. I was playing for him to win at life…not just survive…and I was playing with my whole heart. Because it was his.
And now the contest was over, and I’m left standing alone, wondering if his heart isn’t too damaged to be in it too.
DC Renee is a contemporary romance fiction author who tends to write stand alone novels that always shock you with a twist. She's been writing all her life. It started with adorable rhyming poems as a kid for anniversary and birthday presents, moved onto monologues and short stories as a teen, then transitioned to fan fictions before she found the courage to publish a book.
DC lives in sunny and (mostly) warm Los Angeles with her husband and their two toddlers - a girl and boy that want to "work just like mama," often climbing in her lap and "writing" on her computer. She's very close with her entire family - extended included, and her sister is her muse.
When she's not working, writing, and spending time with the family, she loves watching mindless TV, tinkering with diy projects, and of course, reading.
Hadley has found the perfect candidate for her new contest on "Everyday Heroes." Unfortunately, he wants nothing to do with the contest, or with her. Noah's an oncologist who lost his wife to cancer. Yeah. So feeling the guilt that is inevitable has turned him into a zombie of a man. But something about Hadley's spirit and her persistence calls to him and they end up becoming friends, then more. Will she allow him to stand by her when the worst thing that could happen to her, happens? Or will she push him away for his own good?
Scrubbed will hit you right in the feels. It's such a great tale of friends turned more, with two very lovable leads and a great secondary cast - a wonderful addition to the Everyday Heroes World.
Another new author and another great read, The Everyday Heroes World has once again given me another author to follow as well as another hero to fall in love with. If you love emotional reads with the perfect mix of humour look no further than Scrubbed. Dt Noah Shields is not looking for love, the traumatic end to his marriage has put him off love for life, well that was until the stunning, strong Hadley walks into his world when he least expected it.... Noah has been nominated as an Everyday Hero in a local magazine, his mother in law feels it’s the push he needs to get his life moving again after losing his wife to cancer. What neither of them expected was Hadley the organiser to fast become friends with the hot Doctor. Friends become lovers but will that be enough and can Hadley convince Noah it’s ok to move on.... Scrubbed us a heartfelt story that will certainly tug in your heartstrings but it also has the perfect mix of witty banter that will make smile and giggle as you join Noah and Hadley on their journey. This is a romance that will captivate and keep you on the edge of your seat as the extremely hot Doctor and the blunt, say it as it is Hadley negotiate their road to happiness. Scrubbed ticked all my boxes, I swooned, I sighed and I giggled as I fell hard and fast for Noah, I adored the strong Hadley and I found myself wishing and hoping they got the HEA they both deserved. Looking forward to reading more from the very talented Ms Renee.
If you choose to read this book, I highly suggest you grab your tissues - especially when the twist arrives. This slow burn romance is absolutely incredible! The characters are brilliant and so is the story line.

This is a great addition to the Everyday Heroes Collection.
Noah Shields doesn't think of himself as a hero. In fact, it's just the opposite. As an oncologist his profession is to treat people with cancer, but he couldn't save his wife from dying of stage four cervical cancer. His parents-in-law think differently and feel he is perfect for the "Everyday Heroes" contest. Hadley Snyder came up with the concept of the contest and has the privilege of interviewing and getting to know the contestants. But Noah wants no part in it.
Hadley's real, filterless personality is something new for Noah. With her around it became hard to be sullen and moody. The failure he feels in his wife's passing clouded his ability to remember that doctor doesn't equal God or hero. A hero is someone who tries, sometimes fails, and starts all over again. A hero is someone who brings hope. That's what Hadley was for Noah and vice versa. Hope.
Get your sleeves ready for some tears (or grab a box of tissues) because while the goal was to make someone see their worth, there's so much emotion that comes out for both these characters.
I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.
If you are a fan of K Bromberg's Everyday Heroes series, then you'll want to read DC Renee's Scrubbed, set in the very same world and featuring characters from the book Cockpit, Greyson and Sidney. Our heroine is magazine journalist Hadley Snyder. She works and idolized Modern Family editor Sidney, her boss. When they brainstorm about new contest ideas, Hadley comes up with Everyday Heroes. Sidney has her run with it. Dr Noah Shields ex-mother-in law sends in a contest entry for him. He's an oncologist. He gives his all to his patients, but the one person that he couldn’t save was his wife Tracey 2 years earlier. Its turned him into a shell of what he was as he blames himself. Hadley decides that he's perfect for the contest. Noah wholeheartedly disagrees. But Hadley, with a little push from Sidney, won't take no for an answer. Pretty soon, she’s getting to under his skin. Paging Dr Hottie! This was such a great read. It most definitely has 2 wonderful characters, and the supporting cast is fantastic as well. Noah does self-flagellate himself quite a bit to where you want to shake him. The emotional rollercoaster ride takes you up and down, but we do get our hea.
I've been so lucky that there are so many books in The Everyday Heroes World, because it's a world that I would live in forever if possible. DC Renee is another new to me author that I fell for instantly even though she may or may not have made my eyes leak because of poor Dr. Noah Shield, who hasn't moved on from the way his marriage ended (I felt his pain like it was my own) so his mother in law nominated him for hero to help him move on a little bit. Hadley is the woman who has created the Everyday Heroes contest, and her sunshine outlook is just what Noah needs. That's not to say that it was anything fast, nope, they became friends first and as they got closer, feelings started getting caught. It wasn't an easy journey, and just when I thought things were going to be okay, BAM! A twist came out of nowhere that had me calling this new to me author names. Scrubbed is a story that will put you through the emotional ringer just like it did me but is so worth it at the end of the day! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
This was a new author me and I enjoyed reading this book. The pace was perfect, and the plot was developed. The characters were easy to relate with and realistic. Hadley oversaw the new contest “Everyday Heroes” for the Modern Family. When she came across Dr. Noah Shields nomination, she knew he would be a good candidate. He was an oncologist who had lost his wife to cancer two years previously. Since then, he had felt as though he failed. Hadley was just what Noah need, cheerful and genuine. She brought light to Noah’s life and helped him realize he couldn’t blame himself for his wife’s death. Noah was an everyday hero but never realized it. He was so hard on himself and was not really living his life to the fullest. Hadley helped him to see how his work helped to improve other’s lives. This was such a great book and full of emotions, so have some tissues ready because it is a heartwarming story. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Scrubbed is another great addition to The Everyday Heroes World. It is the story of Noah and Hadley and it was a wonderful emotional sweet/sexy ride. Hadley is a reporter and she is on the cusp of moving on up in her world. She presented a wonderful way for the community to meet and get to know the local heroes in their town. Since is was her baby she is asked to get on out there and interview these men and share in her story what she learns. When she approaches Noah he flat out declines and wants no part of it. He is a local oncologist and he doesn't feel like a hero , he is just doing his job. Having lost his wife several years ago to cancer he doesn't want to be in the spotlight. The more time Hadley spends pursuing Noah the more he begins to open up and a beautiful friendship develops. Hadley may be just what the Doctor ordered to get Noah back in the groove of enjoying life. This couple is sweet, funny, caring, have wonderful witty banter and it was a joy to watch their relationship unfold and blossom. ~~Michele McMullen ~~
This is an emotional read...filled with second chances, heart tugging, guilt, loss, humor, friendship, heartache, forgiveness, witty, chemistry...and so much more. Get your tissues ready.
“My heart broke and melted at the same time. The way he cared was truly something special. And the fact he didn’t see that made his emotions even more powerful.”
This book will capture you and your heart...it makes you appreciate the little things. It has you rooting for them and wanting to shield them from any setbacks. It reminds you that some things are out of your control no matter what you do and to seize the moment.
“I fell to the floor, hugging my knees against myself, as I realized I’d just watched my heart walk out that door. He just didn’t know it, and he didn’t know why.”
This is the perfect addition to this amazing series and is Noah and Hadley’s story. Noah is a doctor who is just going through the notions of living as he is scarred by the end of his marriage. Hadley is working for Sidney, and her task is to organize an “Everyday Heroes” competition, and she is drawn to an entry which is from a mother-in-law who nominated her son-in-law Noah, who is lost after her daughter left him. Hadley is the perfect person to knock down Noah’s walls, but does he want to heal and move on with his life? This is a beautifully written tale which is and emotional roller coaster, and is a heartfelt romance which is fun, humorous, witty, and is a steamy read with unexpected twists being thrown into the mix. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.
Ladies get your tissues ready. Scrubbed is set to take you on a deeply emotional journey of tragedy, love lost, and a broken heart but with care, patience, and belief, there is someone that can rebuild that heart!
Dr. Noah Shields has been nominated by his mother-in-law as an ‘Everyday Hero’ in an up-and-coming competition in ‘Modern Family Magazine. After losing his wife to cancer Noah is alive but not living, his mother-in-law believes he needs a push to start to take that first step and the competition may just be it. Hadley is running the competition at the magazine, when she meets Noah a friendship slowly forms.
DC Renee has written with great love and compassion in this deeply moving story that has a couple of twists in the tail that will make you ask the question ‘Why would you do that’. But that is what made this story an addictive read.
Hadley gets her first chance to show her idol Sidney that she can make the article she suggested great. Everyday Hero's is about people who do heroic things just by being themselves. When she comes across a letter about a doctor who saves lives, but needs to be saving she looks into it. What she doesn't expect is her reaction to Dr. Noah Shields. Noah has been through so much and the last thing he thinks of himself as a hero. Now he has this pint-size woman who is trying to tell him otherwise. When Hadley finally convinces Noah to do the article she's about to take a roller-coaster right of epic proportions. This one will break your heart and put it back together again. Fall in love and suffer from heartache. But find out if sometimes a person from your past can heal your future.
I found my new BBF. Dr. Noah Shields is Dr. McDreamy. Hadley is such a upbeat, spicy, no filter heroine. I loved both of these characters. As Noah deals with a tragedy of the past can Hadley get past the walls around his heart. As she moves from a lady who is annoying Noah to friendship, she tries to show him he deserves happiness.
This was a slow burn romance. It was so sweet and enduring until in true DC Renee fashion she throws a twist at you. I was scared for this twist and when it came I knew why. It will bring you to your knees and make you scream and cry.
I will tell you she redeemed herself with the ending.
All the feels... I mean all of them!! DC Renee has written a beautifully emotional story about love and loss and it’s going to gut you.
Noah saves people, as an oncologist that’s what he does, except he couldn’t save his wife and has never forgiven himself for it. Hadley met Noah and saw through all the sadness and grief to the man he really is.
Follow their story, it’s an emotional one, but it is written amazingly and you will love it. The characters have depth and vulnerability, and the story has some drama and the perfect amount of blushworthy scenes.
This is such a great addition to the KB World of Everyday Heroes!
Noah is a doctor who is struggling when he wasn’t able to save the one person he loved the most. When he is nominated by his mother in-law for the accolades he deserves he is torn between the guilt and regrets of the past with the feelings he is developing for Hadley.
Hadley wants to recognize those who deserve it and she believes that Noah is one of those people. The only problem is that she didn’t expect to develop feelings for him especially when she is unsure he is ready to let someone else into his life.
Noah and Hadley take us on an emotional journey, but the ending was well worth the ride.
What a great story! I found it very easy to read, even tho there's sadness and grief, there is so much hope too. Hadley and Noah meet when Hadley interviews him for her magazine's contest about everyday heroes, but Noah doesn't think he is worthy after what happened to his wife. The two keep meeting and become friends, a beautiful friendship that could turn into more..but will he be able to? Will they make it together? It's a lovely story, with plenty of feels, great characters and fun banter too. I love them both and I enjoyed reading about them!
Scrubbed is a heartfelt and emotional story immersed in the Everyday Heroes World. Noah’s marriage ended in a tragic way and ensured he built a wall around his heart. Hadley stumbles into his world and sees the man that exists under all the grief he carries. This friends to lovers romance has you caught up in the push and pull between want and guilt. Their story was affecting, impassioned and at times had a few tears escaping as you embraced the heartbreak that Noah had suffered. A story that also gave you warmth, humour, passion and love.
I loved Hadley and Noah. She is such a bright force that she brings exactly what he needs to get out of his own depression and past. I absolutely loved that it was his mother-in-law that started it all too. Their chemistry was amazing and I felt for him and what he went through and was so happy when Hadley didn't give up either. A great addition to the Everyday Heroes world and a new author to me that I can't wait to read more from now as well.

Nothing about this book was supposed to make me cry, until it did! Hadley is sweet, smart, and sassy. Not one to be pushed around but full of heart. Noah...sigh....Dr. Hottie...needed a little light in his life and here enters Hadley! The twist as this author is known for was heart wrenching and a hard stomach punch! But I still enjoyed the whole darn book!!
This was my first read from the Everyday Hero's world, and the first book I've read from DC Renee. I loved it! I loved how DC Renee took a humble broken man, gave him hope. I loved the romance the brewed and the HEA I could not have even hoped for. This was a treat to read. Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC.
