I was looking for a dark RH contemporary book and this was at the top of the list. I am a little disappointed because as much as there's reference to dark themes, trafficking, sex slavery, ex-military, lost families, etc. they are all just referenced/mentioned, nothing current or on-page. But apart from the off-page darkness, the book is not bad.

A solid story though a little bit rushed. A bit quick to say "I love you" especially because the guys were already in a sort of long-term 3-way relationship but with an understanig of no-commitment and no-love declarations. But it took them only few days to declare their forevers to Rue. With no foundation whatsoever, except pity, IMO. I am not really sure I like her in the mix. I actually think the 3-way relationship, MMM, that they had was more concrete and believable. Unfortunately without Rue we wouldn't have a book or an RH themed book at that.

The story is not resolved, sort of ends with a cliffhanger but I am not feeling rushed to continue, hopefully I will get back to it at some point.

This is a dark RH romance that is great first book in a series. The heat defiantly burns with M/M/M/F and M/M scenes, and is very steamy. This story is filled with suspense, steam, and intrigue. This does end on a cliffhanger and am looking forward to book 2.

I am voluntarily leaving a honest, unbiased review.

First in the Dirty Twisted Love erotic romance series and revolving around a foursome in New York City.

My Take
I do enjoy erotic romances, and the premise of Entangled in Them was erotic but rather unmoving — it was mostly tell as opposed to show.

Farrar uses first person point-of-view from Dillon's, Ryan's, Kodee's, and Rue's perspectives. Farrar does make it clear who's perspective is active at the start of each chapter. She's also good at dragging out the tease — what it was that Dillon needed that money for as well as why Kodee was so anti-women. Yep, it was a surprise for me!

Jeez, it always shocks me that a parent can be so heartless. Sure, I know this is a novel; I'm also sure that this does happen in real life. Sold so young, Rue has been beaten into knowing she's just property. That she has no say in what she wears, eats, or does. Conditioned to sex.

It is an interesting story in terms of the issues each of the main characters have. Rue has a difficult time understanding men who care while the others have their own difficulties in having a woman around who threatens their business . . . and their emotions.

Entangled in Them is a combination of sex, thriller, and the angst of the characters. It's all that emotion that keeps the pace and the prose slow.

Another niggle is that two of the main characters aren't important enough to have a last name. I get that Rue doesn't have one, but Dillon and Kodee??

The Story
Dillon was sorely disappointed — to say the least — when two of the Capellos' goons showed up with a girl as his payment. It was not what Dillon had bargained for, and he knew he would be in deep with his partners for exposing them to the Capellos.

They don't dare turn her out. And Kodee and Ryan are furious with Dillon.

The Characters
Rue was sold into sexual slavery by her drug-addicted mother. She thinks she might be around twenty-two. She knows she's older than eighteen.

The business and relationship partners . . .
. . . specialize in forging IDs. The irresponsible, charming Dillon is quick to anger. Ryan Berget lost the lower part of his leg in Iraq six months ago. He prefers to be the sub in their relationship. Kodee has a master's in graphic design and suffered an incredible loss. He's the cool, calm one who likes to cook. Vanessa had been his wife.

Dr Gordon Little is a prothetist.

The Capello Brothers
Francesco "Frankie" and Manuel Capello run things. Their goons include Duncan.

Joe Nettie is the Capellos' main rival. Troy is one of Nettie's goons.

Cisco King is another gangster.

The Cover and Title
The cover is primarily black with a deep blue for a background on the upper third. Two men are in suits on either side of the entangled Rue and Ryan, who is in a white shirt and black suit pants with his hand at Rue's throat and Rue's hand grasping his left arm. Rue is wearing what appears to be a long-line black bra and black pants. At the very top is the overall series name in a pale blue. At Rue's and Ryan's upper hip is the series info in a very pale gray. The title is a combination of three fonts with the first word in a teal green, the second in pale gray, and the third word in white. At the very bottom is the author's name in a lighter teal green.

The title is true enough, for Rue does get Entangled in Them.

3 stars - hmmmm i don’t know how to feel about this one.
i thought it was a good concept, and well written, but i couldn’t connect with the characters.
i felt like the men lacked a lot of empathy towards the h, and treated her/had the same thought process as other owners of hers in the past.
when first seeing her, none of the men felt mad or upset on her behalf, instead, they were either 1. mad and wanted her to leave,
2. thought she was a worthless whore (i.e. “didn’t want her bare thighs touching the italian leather.” “acting all high and mighty about some bitch who’d probably fucked more man than we’ve had hot dinner”) that they had to babysit,
or 3. only thought of how she could sexually benefit them and be used for their pleasure (“After all, she’d been given to us, hadn’t she?” - this was immediately after learning she didn’t have any family, or know her last name btw…)

this kinda changed towards the end once they found out she was 14 when first sold, but still, they shouldn’t only have felt bad for her once they found out she was young. regardless of her age, they should’ve felt bad that she was a sex slave continuously being sold to abusive men, didn’t have a last name, and didn’t know her birthday - period.

i don’t know - it wasn’t bad but also was difficult for me to enjoy since i didn’t like the characters.

Eh, not my fav. First, they say love by the end of a week or two...so not instant, but not not instant.

I also REALLY did not like one of the men for maybe half of the book. He had some really scum bag internal monologue around the FMC, and while I'm all for some morally grey characters, he literally uses the "she's slept with plenty of other men so she should be used to me being a creep" thought process. Ugh. Blech. Ick. No thank you.

The whole story is a little unbelievable...well, every mafia book is, but in this instance they have all the equipment and cars and bikes and credit cards they could possibly need, but can't rustle up some $$ for a medical device without doing extra shady deals. The FMC can't read but has an extensive vocabulary and knows what a balanced meal is despite a background that absolutely wouldn't have put her in a position to learn that sort of basic info.

Quick read, not jumping to read the sequel because I'm honestly still not sure I like the characters.

Oh my word, I was hooked from the moment I read the Author’s Note in the RH group on Facebook, and I read it in one sitting!

Despite the fact that I like raunchy times in the first chapter, it was SO worth the wait with this one. I was definitely into the plot and now the harem’s set up, I know we’ll get more raunchy times in the next book…which I’m off to read now!

emotions reading this book 🤣🤦‍♀️🙄🧐

Picked this book out of a reading group recommendation and now I realize why I don’t do that. This book just didn’t have any substance to it quite honestly it was garbage. I didn’t care for any of the characters and I’m actually quite annoyed with the author. She warns you that there is some heavy m/m which is fine but doesn’t warn you that your female lead’s backstory is just awful.

Spoilers
Rue- the female lead is a sex slave. Literally bought and sold sex trafficked at a young age (11-14? Ish?) prostituted out by her mom till her mom sold her. Currently she’s 22. So she was dropped on the main male leads’ doorstep as a “hold on to my property and also she’s your payment for the forgery work you did for us but she’s on loan, and don’t let anyone see her or know you have her”

The men spend the better part of time talking about her like she’s not a human being, and while they’re.... nice? (I guess if you think it’s nice they give her clothes, food, and one of the bedrooms ) it’s not my kind of wow these are romantic hot sexy guys.... they met her basic needs and while they’re not cruel they still in the back of their minds think she’s property.

The author tries to placate the reader into buying that the sexual acts between them and her are all right and consensual because she “gets turned on by what she sees” ? And “ this is the first time she’s ever felt the want to do any reciprocation” and “she’s wet from this” these are your ways for the reader to know that this is all cool. 🧐🤦‍♀️. Again these are your ways to know that this woman who has no life skills, cannot read, I doubt write because those go hand in hand, can’t even cook doesn’t clean just sits on the couch and stares around - - - this woman who was sold as a child and conditioned to be pimped out, views herself as property and not a being, that is your way as the reader to know this is consensual. This woman has been mentally and physically ABUSED for YEARS.

I’m trying to wrap my head around this short “book” where there’s little to no plot, and the author is trying to sell me on how this is consensual 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. There’s no real time frame so I don’t know if this was slow building or if this all occurred in a week or two... (maybe month?)but I don’t know how this short of a story can show the unraveling evolution of a woman from property to human being in a month’s time. Again how do you get rid of years of ingrained abuse to make this where it’s consensual? Then even when she had been there for some time ( a week or two 🙄🤣) she thinks they are coming together to talk about getting rid of her (they’re talking about including her in on their lifestyle) and she runs to them and cries has a meltdown, begs on her knees thinking they’re getting rid of her. Does that sound like someone who is confident, in mental control, not feeling like she’s being coerced? Then she’s trying to give out life lessons to one of the guys 🤣🤣🤣?

I’m cool with a lot of things, I read the warnings that authors put out, but there wasn’t one on this part which is why I’m irritated. The only thing this book had going was the steam scenes between m/m and even that was mediocre.

There is nothing sexy about sex trafficking victims who have had any and all semblance of humanity stripped away. The only thing sexy are the heroes that rescue these victims and treat them with kindness and respect and allow them to come into their own. That’s not feasible in a one month time frame.

This book ends on a cliffhanger where they run after her to try to get her back after being kidnapped. Because they love her (🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 insert all the hysterical laughing)🙄🙄

Summary:

Kodee, Dillon, and Ryan are all business partners (the illegal variety) and lovers. Dillon decides to take on a job for a mob boss for some extra money (that we later learn is to buy Ryan a new, better prosthetic leg). Instead of menu, he gets paid by having a sex slave dumped on their door. This sex slave is Rue.

Rue is used to being handled by men. She has been used for sex since early teens, maybe even earlier than that. She doesn't remember her last name or her birthday. She thinks she's around 22 years old.

The boys are kind to Rue, and she's not used to this. One night, she catches Kodee and Ryan having sex and she is caught watching by Dillon. This is how they eventually learn that she is attracted to m/m and wants to be involved with them. Eventually they all end up together.

Despite their rules, they fall in love with her.

After Ryan tried to strangle her in his sleep, due to his PTSD, Rue runs away because she doesn't want them to breakup over her. She gets captured by a rival gang of the one who had put her in the boys hands. This gang wants her dead because she witnessed their boss kill a different gang boss. The boys show up in time to rescue her.

They tell her they love her and decide it's time to help her escape and to protect her.

Review:

TW: abuse, non-consentual sex, PTSD from war

Took a bit to get into this book, but I like it! I'm excited to see what happened next in their story.

There was definitely spice, but there was also a plot. I rated it a 3/5 because while I'm enjoying it, I don't see myself rereading it in the future.

So the plot line on this was better than I expected. There’s a little mystery, a little rush, a little danger. It was a good first book for a duet actually. The ending was fairly satisfactory but left you wanting a lot more.

And the spice was pretty good. I thought there’d be more of it, but lots of swords crossing along with bringing Rue in as their fourth. I loved watching them altogether. Really wanted more of Ryan and Kodee. 🥵 And all four of them have predictably tragic back stories.

But my biggest issue with this? Is that Rue goes from “I’ve been abused and a sex slave and never want anyone” to “OMG I want these men!” In like two seconds flat. And their view of Rue, like being a sex slave was somehow her fault, is disturbing at best.

I don’t mind a morally gray hero, but part of that gray morality is that they do have morals. Forcing women is a hard no for most of them. And while no one forced Rue, the idea that they wouldn’t be opposed to it didn’t sit right. (Which goes to show you what a huge difference there is between CNC and actually forcing someone cuz I love reading about CNC).

Considering it was a free read, it was pretty good but not good enough for me to pick up the second book.

I feel like I’ve been on the bad streak with the last few books I’ve read, and this one is no different. I wish I had just DNF’ed this instead of forcing myself to finish.

It’s not good. Pacing is off, everything feels rushed, and we somehow manage to learn practically nothing about all of our main characters other than like 1 singular thing that defines their character a little.
We’re left with more questions than answers as we work our way through this, the relationships feel underdeveloped and unrealistic, and I find myself not caring about any of them!!!!

I also find it to be problematic and annoying when an author writes a “dark romance” where they give their characters an awful backstory but don’t actually do anything with it or use it in any meaningful way. Our FMC is basically a victim of sex trafficking, and that basically is her ENTIRE character. She’s weak and pathetic, and doesn’t have any real personality until like the last 10 pages when she gets taken. It’s shallow and poorly done.

I forced myself to finish this book, I suffered, and I will NOT move forward to the other books. I would not recommend this one and would actually encourage you to stay away….

Hope Can Be Terrifying

I’d spent most of my life teaching myself how to disconnect from my emotions. It hadn’t been easy, especially when I’d been young — too young to experience the things I'd experienced. I’d almost been broken back then, but somewhere inside me, I discovered a strength I had no idea I possessed, and I pulled myself out of the darkness. Somehow, despite everything I’d been through, I still had the ability to hope for more, for better, for things to change. And here I was now, staring that same hope in the face, only this time it terrified me.

3.5 - At times I had a hard time with the way the MCs first viewed Rue. It wouldn’t have mattered if she’d made a mistake to get herself in the position no one deserves to be there and some of the things that were said almost made me DNF. Overall, I ended up enjoying the book even though it is a highly unlikely story. I did enjoy seeing the characters develop and they have good chemistry so I kept moving forward. I didn’t realize it was a trilogy and a suspenseful one at that!

Unexpected payday

After doing a job for a monster, Dillon isn’t prepared for the payment he receives. There’s a lot of background building with the four main characters. It’s needed to make the story but some of it is a little slow. Over all I enjoyed the storyline feel like the next book is going to be better since we know there stories and the action is just beginning.

Good start

Rue has been at the mercy of powerful men for almost all her life. She’s given to Dillon, Kodee, and Ryan for safekeeping by the local mob. But feelings set in. I want to love this story but how does Rue go from being property for almost her entire life, being used to being used however other people want to falling for all three? I hope there’s more depth to the next story.

I felt like the guys were more into each other than Rue. The only one that was somewhat believable was Dillon. I don't buy that Ryan was into women/Rue at all. He acted like such a bratty jealous boyfriend at the beggining so it felt unbelievable when he started having interest in her. Kodee and Ryan were definitely more like a couple. Overall, it felt like Ryan was more the center of attention than Rue was.

Refreshingly different

This is my first book by this Author and I was pleasantly surprised. The plot was interesting and emotional. The story deals authentically with some very difficult subject matter. The relationship dynamics in this one are new and intriguing. I will definitely be following through with this series.

Ok, the h was a child sex slave and so the sex scenes were cringy to me. The guys were so wishy-washy with everything. There was no real flow to the story. I will not be continuing with this series.

Brilliant

A brilliant story by the talented Marissa Farrar. Dillon, Kodee and Ryan are three colleagues who are secretly in an open relationship. In comes Rue, who is given to them as payment for a job.

I loved the exploration of the different characters.

Proximity is key

A very enjoyable story! It starts out a little slow, but builds in intensity and suspense as the story progresses.

I loved the relationship dynamics as they build and the multiple POV was very well done!

it was ok

This book wasn’t really for me. It could be that it’s because I started after a REALLY good series and I felt a bit let down. The relationship depth wasn’t there for what I was looking for. Oh well.

Chilling

To have lived a life that was never your own is something that is truly heartbreaking. To then find guys who take you in despite all the hesitation, and then learn to care for you could be overwhelming. Joy and sorrow and loss go hand in hand in this book.

Absolutely love! Dark is the best way but not too much. The MC is written out beautifully. They was her attitude, personality and mannerisms are are very believable that this is how a person could be after living a life that she has. I do hope her mother is alive and that her men find her and punish her for selling her daughter into this, though on the plus side if she hadn't the MC probably never would have met them. Still the mom deserves to be punished.

Also Holy steamy bedroom scenes! I also loved that they guys had an established relationship prior to the MC getting involved. This is not common in the books I have read and I loved it. Each character is complex and so real. Absolutely love. This is the firs book I have read by this author and I can't wait to read more!
