What happens when a man is suddenly left heartbroken by his girlfriend? Does he move onto the next woman as fast as he can? Does he start stalking her next boyfriend for some kind of revenge? Or does he randomly meet another man going through the exact same thing and instantly start some kind of bromance with him? These two men weren't ever supposed to meet, yet crazily they did and now Newcastle will never be the same again. It's as though on their own, they wouldn't be recognised in a police line up, yet together, they can be picked out at ease in a crowded park.
This is the story of Bruce and Morris, then all the strange things they did together, just to help each-other avoid another heartache. This is the story of wingman meeting wingman, yet neither one of them know how to use those wings, or fly alone without the other one beside him.
This is the fifth book I've read by Jimmy Tudeski and all of his comedies have made me smile or laugh over the last few months, so I was very excited about reading this one.
What we have here is a former dancer (Magic Mike style) heartbroken after his girlfriend walked out on him, then another man called Morris (very camp for a straight guy) heartbroken after his spit too. Neither men want to deal with the emotions they are currently feeling, so in a mad random meeting and despite being completely different, they form a friendship so strong, that it's fair to call them soulmates from the start. They drink together, they sing with their hair brushes together, they even bathe together, just to form this crazy heterosexual friendship. They go out together, they eat together, they even hook up with the same women, just to avoid more heartache.
Firstly, it's really nice to see men hurt this way. No I don't mean that in a horrible way, but so often, we see a guy dumped, then straight away he's out on the pull, using another female to get over himself. Here, it's all out there in public, their feelings aren't hidden. Clearly both men are hurting, yet neither one of them want the other one to hurt any more than the other one is, so they keep trying to move the other one on a little further, often failing. It really is as though Bruno took Morris under his wing and tried to teach him how to dance, then Morris took Bruno under his wing and tried to teach him out to be a responsible grown up, yet neither one of them had to bother, because each-others company is all they really needed.
Bruno constantly wanted back with his ex, Morris wanted to be more like cool Bruno and before long, Bruno did become a little camper like Morris and Morris did become somewhat of a sex machine like Bruno. The two characters in this book bounced off each-other perfectly and despite their clear goal of not hurting anymore, their friendship was only ever going to hurt when it finally had to come to an end.
A massively funny and hilarious book that follows two men on their mission to better themselves and feel no more pain, then an emotional final chapter that had me close to tears, yet ended beautifully too. Jimmy Tudeski often writes comedy where he doesn't take life too seriously and just wants people to have some fun, but in this book something different - A first taste of real emotional that made this chaotic comedy a little more special.
Another crude comedy written by Jimmy Tudeski and what a fast paced riot of laughter this was. At the start I thought with the mention of Magic Mike it was going to take on that role and become somewhat of a spin-off for the film, but this Magic Mike called Bruno had been hurt by a woman. His confidence was on the floor when meeting him for the first time in the book, so he went out drinking with his friends to cheer himself up. This took on a completely new direction, one in which the light-hearted comedy it started out as, turned itself into a romp for two men to place a few notches on their bedposts and bounce back. I loved the quote - “Rebound sex is fine when you want to rebound and bounce back in life, but when you only want to bounce back into a bed with your ex-girlfriend, rebound sex would only ever turn out to be a regrettable thing” SO TRUE!!
If you want a book that is going to make you smile, then this one is definitely worthy of a read when you need cheering up.
This book is about two men that should never have met and never become friends. One is a little backwards when it comes to love and women, the other has all the confidence. What they have in common, is they break up with their partners at the same time, then bump into each-other in a nightclub.
I wasn't sure where the book was going for a while, it certainly took it's time getting there, but I think it tells the story of a true friendship and the sacrifices we often make for the people we love. Despite being a raunchy romp of sometimes risky smut throughout, this book did have a little depth for a Tudeski comedy.
You often find two men discovering friendship in a book and them bringing out the best in each-other, but never like this. These two men had lost their confidence so much, that they literally bounced off each-other throughout the book, trying to give the other one what they didn't have in the first place. It was a joy to read, it was very funny in places and the ending made it an extremely good read for me. A mucky comedy throughout, with a deep and meaningful ending placed on top - 5 stars every time!
A comedy about two sexist men that use women in order not to get hurt. I loved every second of it, because it shows what immature arseholes men really are.
Think Magic Mike Alpha male to that absolute limit!
Now think Magic Mike going through his very own breakup.
Someone like him could just snap his fingers and find a new girl, yet the character like him in this book doesn't, and instead bumps into a man going through the same thing. Our version of Mike then tries to unselfishly help him regain his confidence, pushing his own heartbreak aside. The other man is a little bit of a loser, nothing like our main character, yet he has got one thing our Mike hasn't got. Yes, he has a huge penis. Doesn't know how to use the thing, but massive nevertheless.
With many one night stands in the future, then our Mike's female friends and fans being introduced to this other man, he is soon turned into an animal full of confidence, now in search of his dream woman, whilst our main character continues to suffer on in secret. What we soon have is the perfect friendship (bromance) and a true story of soulmates coming together, who would have never even met if they hadn't of broken up with their partners at the same time.
It's a lovely story, it's certainly smutty in places, yet its has depth too. This is the perfect FEEL GOOD book, that will have you smiling from ear to ear. This book has one of the nicest endings I've read in a long time, yet it's not the happy ever after I was actually expecting it to be.
I know this is a fictional comedy, but it's as though the writer has been completely honest with just how men act and deal with a breakup. There's a certain pride, a certain ego, a certain desire not to lose face in front of their friends when they are dumped, that usually make them act like dicks in this situation. This book strips back those feelings and shows two men in the peak of their heartache, resulting in a comical friendship that should never have been possible. I hated the two characters for a little while, but as I got to know them as the story went on, I feel I started to understand them a lot clearer. Of course boys being boys, they do some shitty things and do things that would class them as sexist pigs in a normal world, but don't we all do incredibly stupid things when our heart is breaking? These two men found each-other, didn't really like each-other, yet through it all they had a short relationship that was priceless in their own recoveries. The end chapter blew me apart, because despite all their flaws, one selfless act proved that we're all just the same. We all want love, we're all prepared to do something lovely for another human-being, yet those selfless actions can sometimes cause even more heartache. Whether the writer has been through these emotions himself to write this story I don't know, but for a man or woman going through a breakup, this book is very accurate to those emotions we will all face.
A comedy like no other, with profanity usage plenty, sex talk at every turn, then a deep emotional side that will warm the soul. A great book, a wonderfully written story and a bromance like no other, yet probably like every other bromance on the planet. The difference being, these two characters told their story, whereas without it, we wouldn't even know what a true bromance was.
This book is amazing, yet not for the storyline or content, but for the style of writing it delivered. Far too many written works are now being altered to cater for what society is turning itself into. A fearful place, walking around on egg shells, trying not to offend anybody, where a healthy sense of humor inside is being locked away forever. This writer is old school and seemingly doesn't fear anything. His writing is daring, courageous and very entertaining indeed. Of course there are sexist parts in this book, it was written by a man after all, but that's what makes it so beautiful. If films and books stop writing sexist comedy, how are we ever going to remember what sexism was all about?
Two heart broken men, two men searching for a way out, what is sexist about that? Two men finding each-other, then supporting each-other through those very tough times, obviously becoming teenage boys again as they go. It's the perfect romance, it's a book about great friendship and with the lack of subtly in the writing, it's nice to see some people aren't scared of a little harmless fun.
I think there are going to be a lot of female readers hating on this book, simply because of what the two main characters get up. Both scorned in their relationships and scared of being hurt again, they find comfort in each-other, then head out on some female rampage to avoid getting hurt again and repair their dented egos. Although this book is a little sexist in places, it does show the MPV very well and if you search deep enough, you can find a little bit of romance in the story. Personally, I think it's completely harmless and I know of plenty of women who have done this too, yet I still think this book will be rubbished for being so daring. I fully enjoyed being inside two male minds for a little while.
I've read seven out of seven books by Jimmy Tudeski over the last two years, yet this is my most favourite by far. Two heartbroken men finding each-other to combat their pain, then all the naughty situations they get themselves into simply to help each-other avoid another painful breakup in the future. The book reminded me of the first Battersea Parker, yet this was slightly deeper, with better meaning and stronger characters. This book, if you give it the chance is extremely funny, very entertaining and quite endearing too. This book describes the ultimate bromance (m/m friendship) perfectly, with a comical, yet very nice ending.
After enjoying a few of Jimmy's books, I hit a DNF when it came to his book "Complicated" and thought that was it. However, he's come back with this book and hit my funny spot all over again. Another great book about a bromance, which is highly controversial, could be deemed a little sexist in places, yet very funny indeed. I've said it about Jimmy's writing before and I will say it again, the best thing about his books is you never know what's coming next. It's as though they are played out like a readable rom-com, then the story always seems to twist and change direction. The surprise in this one was definitely the ending, but I won't give away what happens.
What makes this main character lovely and different from all the other alpha male boyfriend's written about? This guy not only is tough, not only heroic, not only is hot, but he makes mistakes and realistically acts like a true-to-life man throughout the book as well. Other alpha's in other books are too perfect - This guy sounds real.
This is a great story about two male friends, both going through a break up, then what they needed to do for eachother to get through the pain. The comedy is right on the border of offensive, yet the story told is something quite beautiful hidden behind all the wit.
It's quite clear to see that this naughty book about sex and relationships is going to be hammered by critics and called sexist, but is it really? Are us girls any different really, when we go through the same kind of emotional shit? Boys and girls can both say and do sexist things and act up when they are heart broken (I know I've made mistakes) this is just one of those stories through the eyes of a man, which I find quite honest and quite refreshing really. Let's not pretend this kind of stuff doesn't happen in our lives as well, and Instead let's just enjoy this book for what it is, a comedy about heartache and the things we do when we're lonely.
I've read a few Jimmy Tudeski comedies, so knew what to expect starting this book. These two characters in my opinion were sexist, childish and did some unforgivable things, in which I almost stopped reading it half way through. What this book does really well though is take those men, show men never really grow up, then perfectly gives a male point of view into love and what they think about it all. An enjoyable read, no real depth, but definitely some things my boyfriend does himself, so surprisingly accurate as well.
Reminds me of my old nights out with my friends years back. Harmless comedy, showing you exactly what men think about, do and get up to when they are going through a breakup themselves.
“Rebound sex is fine when you want to rebound and bounce back in life, but when you only want to bounce back into a bed with your ex-girlfriend, rebound sex would only ever turn out to be a regrettable thing”
So very true! I've bounced back many times like this and never have I been happy about it in the morning.
A swear happy comedy for adults, with a heart breaking message hiding so deep inside it, that it can quite easily be overlooked. I personally read this book twice and only found it myself the second time around. Despite this comedy being about men, their break ups and all the things boys do when their relationship goes wrong, this story is also about loneliness, self-esteem in men and mental health too. I believe if you can look past the banter, ignore the swearing, and drop all the boyish sexist stuff they get up to, you too will find a very strong love story about two friends inside.
A very funny book with shows just how men and women are completely different in the way they think. After a breakup women talk to their friends, hurt and sit around for weeks trying to get over it. Women also think men move on and chase other women quicker. This book tells it perfectly - Men hurt too. Yes we might chase other girls around, get laid, get ourselves into trouble like these two characters do, but we do hurt too.
I wanted to like this book, I really did. Two guys, two break ups and plenty of women on the go. Yes, the story made sense, yes the ending was pretty good, but for me, why didn't Tudeski use his efforts in this one to deliver and write the next part of Battersea Parker instead? Two men, one alpha, one soft, remind you of anything? It's Battersea Parker with a different set of characters and a new picture on the cover. Funny book, still entertaining, but disappointed it arrived before BP3.
A comedy about heartbreak through the eyes of a man, with a man narrating the whole thing too, what could possibly go wrong? The answer is nothing. It had wit, it didn't hold back in its punches and overall, I actually thought this was a lovely story about two friends who found eachother, lost eachother, then finally found a happiness of their very own. Be warned: This is a book for adults and does talk about sex a lot.
Bruno is hot, Morris is not, yet together under the guidance of Bruno, Morris becomes the man he dreams to one day become. This book is about friendship, soulmates and love. Putting aside all the naughty things they do together, nobody is hurt in the writing of this book and Bruce does actually care about everyone. This is one of those books you will laugh at, but know you shouldn't.
For me, this book let itself down in a big way. It was basically Jimmy Tudeski's "Battersea Parker" written in the same style, with two new characters attached to it. The comedy was fun, the book was enjoyable, but if you've read the earlier series of "Battersea Parker" it's a wonder why the author didn't just write a third and final part to it instead.
Another 4 star rating for a very funny story, which nearly hit a 5. Failed for me for the way it ended. Usually I like a little depth in my books, but for a controversial chapter happy book like this, depth, feelings and emotions towards the end weren't needed for me. I would have much rather the story stay and finish upbeat like it started out.
What I thought was going to be another mucky comedy, turned out to be something a lot deeper than that. Yes, it had all the banter we expect from a Tudeski novel, but for some reason, I felt the main characters pain and emotions in this book too. It's basically a love story, mixed together with a brotherhood, then all the messy sh$t that comes with it.
I find myself caught in two minds about this book. Was it a sexist comedy about two men and all the naughty things they got up to? Or was it an honest account of what a male friendship is like and how two men would deal with their breakups? Either way, it did have me laughing, it was very rude in places and the the end was very good, if not surprising.
You will need to have a good sense of humour to get through this book in one piece, because it's full of smutty comments handed out by its characters and sexist behaviours. Strangely this funny book also seems to be pretty accurate to life, where at least one of these two main characters will be known by someone reading it.
There's no doubt about it, the comparison between these two characters and Dexter and Malcolm in Battersea Parker is uncanny. The question is, are these two comical characters based on two real people like others have suggested, therefore actually inspiring the creation of Dexter and Malcolm? I guess we will never know, but this is a very funny book, giving its readers an inside look at men going through a breakup.
Tudeski's writing has the power to make you smile when you don't feel like smiling. Even when you try not to smile, his characters and dirty sense of humour will get you. This book despite it being about two men and sex was a lovely joyful read.
When the drink is flowing and men are out on the pull, isn't this what they all get up to? A male driven comedy, talking sex, women and more sex. Not so insightful reading it through the eyes of a man, yet surprisingly hilarious at the same time.
Sauciness, men being men and lots of sex talk. Another smutty story written by Jimmy Tudeski with plenty of smiles involved. This one reminded me a lot like his earlier books. Two men out to find love, Dexter and Malcolm did ring a lot of bells here.
With Jimmy Tudeski, it's all about his misunderstood male characters and lets face it, if these men weren't misunderstood, they wouldn't be so funny. A story of friendship, similar traits to the men in the Battersea Parker books, yet here with a little more depth and meaning.
