Now that Mary is free from the mirror realm, she has one thing on her mind: destroy the entire bloodline responsible for locking her away for thousands of years. Mary/Mae is pretty awesome and all powerful. Back in the day she was kind of but not really burnt as a witch (funny story that is actually) and given what she can do I can understand why ignorant people would fear her. While on the warpath Mary and her guys will learn her release from behind the mirror may have more consequences than expected. I kinda felt a bit more for Mary here because so many treated her like a villain even Ellis, when more times than not she was the the hero for a witch in need. She’s even explicitly told the evil would be free without her being released anyways and yet she’s still treated like the plague and like everything is her fault. As for the relationship, she’s not been with them all but it’s clear they all want her and want to work on something lasting. With the cliffy the book ends on its clear their relationship will have to be moved to the back burner for now because they are gonna a few hurdles to overcome if they want a HEA.

Crazy

There’s so much going on. Tons of action and fighting. Mae is strengthening her bonds with the guys. And it’s going to get crazy.

In the hype of reading this book, I had reread the first book again to get a better sense of what was going on. I’m not sure if I was at my peak quarantine phase or not, but I definitely didn’t enjoy the book as much the second time around. I went into this second book of the series hoping that Mae and her boys wouldn’t fall flat.

We start off with Mae finally free from the mirror realm. She’s gotten her first actual taste of freedom in centuries. Now, she’s a step closer to exacting her revenge on those who put her in there. Mae won’t let anyone stand in her way, even the guys. They either come along with her or she leaves them behind, no matter how enticed she is by them. The Hunters don’t know what to make of their beautiful Bloody Mary but can’t seem to leave her alone. They bring her with them to their home and help her in her revenge.

The dynamic in the relationship was kind of strange to start off. We already have Hunter and Mae together as a couple and then the other guys awkwardly super attracted to her but not really making a move. Same for Mae, except she’s more oblivious and doesn’t think they like her that way or something. The harem def had a rocky start and was pretty awkward. I don’t even like the other guys that much, just Hunter lol. They don’t have his depth and when there is some sort of development, it feels forced and awkward with no depth to the actual character.

When Mae comes out of the mirror realm, some seriously bad stuff comes along with her. Like monsters no one has seen in decades and things that haven’t lurked out of their hideaways in lifetimes. Something major has been awakened with Mae’s arrival and it’s causing chaos to everything.

That overarching plot ended up mingling with Mae’s overall plan to wreck everyone who put her inside the mirror realm in the first place. It’s strange that I don’t feel that sympathetic towards Mae but maybe it’s because we don’t really get many of her feelings about the aftermath of being free and her revenge almost feels petty? Like granted, every person who got killed deserved it, but it all just seemed so convenient and pretty meh in terms of what she could have done to exact her vengeance.

Then, the ending. It was rushed. Didn’t realize I was coming to the end of the book until I got to the last page and was confused about how this all came up so suddenly.

Despite me feeling differently about this series after this book, I still want to know what happens after the cliffhanger this book left off on. However, moral of this review is.... the book fell flat.

It was okay

Honestly, I did not re read the first one before tackling the second. However, this book didn't feel like it captured me enough. Usually after the first few chapters I'll remember the book, thus one I didn't. It just didn't keep my attention.

Mae is the witch behind the tale of Bloody Mary. This is actually the second book in the series, but I was able to pick up read it fairly easily. She's freed from the mirror world by four very unique supernaturals and must take on even more unique supernatural bad guy. It's a very unique take on RH and supernaturals. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to see where it goes. It's got some heat. I volunteered to read this book via Booksprout.

Will admit to not realizing that this was Book 2 in this series, took me a few pages to catch on and catch up.

I do enjoy reading about badazzz females that take no prisoners and make no excuses for their behavior that said Mae/Bloody Mary was so intently focused on her need for revenge that she didn’t seem to notice the rest of the world falling apart around her. I did understand after what was done to her and to others by these mages why she would want them totally eradicated. There is a fine line between stupid obsession and justification and for me she stepped over it.

This is supposed to be a reverse harem and it is by far the most awkward reverse harem I’ve ever read. Not sure if the author was afraid of having Mae come across to promiscuous as she pursued all of the men but this gave a new meaning to slow burn. It seems in book 1 she got together with Hunter and it wasn’t until almost the end of this book that she got together with Grim/Azrael. At this rate is it going to be a guy a book then we will get book five when they are all together at the same time? For me honestly I didn’t feel much chemistry it all felt a bit mechanical and not that there was a bunch of horizontal time I just kind of glossed over it. Ellis and Alastair your turn is coming not sure who’s going to be the next lucky guy.

This seemed like a bunch of events happening in their own little bubbles that just didn’t fit together seamlessly for me, it was a bit too discordant. Chances are if you are reading this type of story you may have heard of Sam and Dean Winchester of Supernatural the TV show fame, which is what all of the random phone calls and sightings made me think of.

There are some really deep moments as you empathize with the pain all of these characters have endured and a few tongue in cheek moments to lighten the darkness a bit. With things so loose it was hard for me to give it a 4 star rating like I would like to it’s closer to a 3.5 in places and 2 in others, I left it as a 3 star rating because it has so much potential.

Mae is surprised that Hunter doesn't seem to want to leave the mirror realm, she knows he will sooner or later. Mae keeps getting calls for help, which Hunter goes with her. Mae is sure he will not see her the same way as he did before. She is drawn to him, there is something about him. There is serious danger to the realm, that Hunter is hurt. Mae is able to get free. They both are now able to leave the realm. She is happy to be free and enjoying the moment. The others will not give her a chance, not with what she just heard.
Mae and the guys are facing the resurgence of old evils that have not been seen in years. It is getting worse, they are trying to do their best. Mae decides that it is time to face her enemies. Mae, Grim and Ellis set off to right the wrong that this family has done. Ellis and Grim are blown away by how Mae is with her magic. They all seem to have feelings for each other, if they want to deny it. Things will move on that front. Mae will learn about why she was put in the realm and who is after her. Mae and everyone is in serious danger.

This was a good second book, it was entertaining to read. It is an easy read and there are different legends in these books. There are also different types of supernatural. There is something for everyone. There are some steamy scenes as this is a reverse harem.

What an amazing sequel in this series! Remember the legend of Mary. Well, she is on a mission now that she is not in the mirror. Let's just say that she is pretty dang powerful. Well, when you think of it, is she powerful due to the pent up anger she has been holding or is it that she is really a powerful witch. Her journey does not let up know that she is on a mission to rid the families that trapped her in a mirror. Do we get answers to the questions that come up? Some are answered and some we must wait for still. Now let us talk about the men who rescued her. Hunter, Alistair, Grim, and Ellis want to help her with her mission but still has some reservations about her. Ellis is hot/cold towards her. Alistair is intrigued, Hunter is falling for her and Grim is right behind. She is not sure what she feels for them but she knows there is something there. So what will happen when she accomplishes her mission? Well, I can say that the next book is going to be interesting. So if you want smexy times, intrigue, mystery, and fighting, then you need to read this series.

The sequel was much better than the first! Mary is finally unleashed from the Mirror World and all hell seems to be breaking loose in the Human World. This book has more action, characters development, blood, and monsters from legends.
I loved that Mae was finally able to interact with the other guys and not just Hunter. Ellis is wary and standoffish of her even though she proves herself over and over again that she’s not evil. I enjoyed getting to read about Ellis in his other form and world. I was hoping to see Adele and the vampires again, but hopefully they’ll be in book three.
The monsters were well described and the action scenes with them and the warlocks were just what I was hoping from Mae- vengeful and ruthless. The world building and magic system were very vivid and I enjoy the creativity that Helen and Lacey have used for this series. I can’t wait to see what happens next with Mae and her guys and how they handle the impending apocalypse!

Not sure where to start with this book. I really liked and enjoyed book 1 in this series. I just felt like book 2 didn't have the same energy. Mae's character seem really different in this book. I'm all for the head strong and feisty heroine but Mae was putting so much energy on her need for revenge that she didn't realize the chaos around her. I get it!!! After what those mages did to her why she would want them gone. It's just seem like her obsession and justification went overboard. Also can we talked about this slow burn situation we have going on with Mae and the guys. Hopefully in the next book things will steamy up more. Overall interesting and entertaining read looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series. Our heroine is none other than Bloody Mary, out for revenge against those that wronged her. Too bad the world is falling apart at the same time.

This is book two of the series. It does pretty well as a stand alone, but it will make more sense if you read them in order.

This is a paranormal reverse harem story with some horror elements (much blood and violence). The story is well written and comes with an interesting cast of characters. My favorite is, of course, our heroine. who has a nice bit of depth to her but she is rather blood thirsty and grim. The story has lots of action and generally moves at a good pace. And while I could have done with a bit less of the horror element, it was not overwhelming or too distracting. Overall, I enjoyed the story and am still curious to see where things go.

Recommended.

Holy Smokes! This story is gripping and suspenseful. It is stunningly written and the characters are magnificent. It pulls you in and keeps you glued to it. The storyline is amazing and I love the mythology of the characters. They fall in place together beautifully. It is a story that you need to read. The series is one that is a must read. Mae is strong and becoming stronger with her guys at her back. We learn a bit more what happened to Mae as we learn a more about the guys. There is drama, suspense, with a bit of mystery, and some hot sexy scenes. This is definitely a mind blowing story that must be read.

It's very slow-going plot with Mae's character really seeming different in this book. I really don't like her. Nothing send to happen in this book for at least 70%. I understand that she was trapped but her sense of entitlement drove me crazy. She just kept assuming that these guys were going to help her even though all she brought was more drama in their lives. I know it's a RH but why does everyone want her magic "self" (I was going to say something crass). Why does she automatically have to end up with all the guys - even the ones that don't like her? It makes no sense. Overall, this book is such a let down after the first one.

Book two picks up right where book one leaves off.
We see Mae in the real world, no longer locked inside the mirror realm.
And now chaos has been unleashed.
They aren't sure what exactly the reason for Hell on Earth, but many believe it is because Mae was released.
Though Mae knows it is not because of her.
Or she hopes not at least.

We see the relationships becoming stronger and deeper.
Though a couple of them seem to be going in the opposite direction than Mae hoped, they can't deny their attraction to one another.
We do see a little more steam though between them as well.

This book ends on a way bigger cliffhanger than book one.
Much more anticipation going into book three.

Overall, it is a great read and I rushed through the reading.

Entertaining

This book was good and I enjoyed it. However, I didn’t like it nearly as much as I did the first book. There were several issues that detracted from the story.

1) there is a distinct lack of explaining going on. Mae and the guys don’t really seem to share information. Ellis never tells the guys what happened at the lake. Mae never tells the guys her memories or what she saw the evil mages doing. That leads to everyone thinking Mae is probably evil or crazy or deranged or only focused to vengeance. No one communicates.

2) The relationships felt really shallow. We are told that Mae and the guys have deepening feelings, but never witness this.

3) it felt a bit like a novella, really short and only surface deep.

This story was really bloody. It was very fast paced, full of fights and magic. I run through pages like a mad woman. I loved every single word of it. Mae is growing in her powers. She is also growing feelings for her Hunters. And them, even if some reluctantly, for her. She is remembering more and more of her past. But there is also growing danger all around the world. Devastation and strange creatures are everywhere. Executing her vengeance against Warewells gave her some little kind of rightness but didn’t solve the problem. She is dangerous, she is powerful, she is Bloody Mary, you should never cross her path ... but even she might be not enough to stop the worst to come.

WOW - I re-read Don't say my name and then went straight into Don't Cross my path.
I LOVE this series. The story of Mae continues to unfold and definitely on team Mae.
What a strong kick butt woman. After everything she has been through, witnesses and made to endure she still has her values and beliefs and is still by them.
The 4 main guys in the story their characters / back story are further fleshed out and understand the who/why etc.
The world and all the supernatural elements are awesome.
But for me, the biggest draw card to the story is Mae - She is the anti-hero.
Excellent read and highly recommend.

Second book, just as good as the first
Another great book by Lacey Carter Anderson and Helen Scott. They’ve done some phenomenal research to come up with unusual legends and evil creatures, like rusakli and dybbuk. You need to read the book before this one to fully get the dynamics of the group, but this one surprisingly stands well on its own, as the baddie identified at the end of the previous book doesn’t appear in the second book. In fact, he’s disappeared entirely, and I’m kinda left hanging as to what’s going to happen. Definitely going to have to read the next book, Don’t Touch My Men, to get my satisfaction.

Wowzers what a brilliant dream team Lacey Carter Anderson and Helen Scott make.
This storey is loosely based on the Bloody Mary myth but once you get your head round the fact that this is a re-imaged re-telling and understand the fact that this is its own storey you will hopefully enjoy this book.
Bloody Mary has Hunter for company and he looks out for her each time she is called, but now that they have esacaped the Mirror realm she has all four of her men to protect her but will they her to just carry out the bloody vengence that she has planned?
Wonderfully written and a very enjoyable read.

3.5 Stars

Not really sure how I feel about this series. Elis is annoying with his back and forth on Mary. He was so with freeing Mary and now that she’s actually free he’s saying they can’t trust her. Yet he was with getting her out so much so he went out on his own and was kidnapped. Maybe this part wouldn’t bother me as bad if from the beginning he wasn’t with freeing her, but the back and forth is giving me whiplash! Tbh I read this last night and can’t even remember much of the story to write a review on it. I hate giving bad reviews, because I can’t imagine how much work goes into writing and publishing a book. 5 stars on the idea of the story

Bloody Mary has escaped her mirror prison. The Warlocks need to be afraid, very, very afraid. The team of warriors who saved her are fighting battles against evil. Mae wants to join them after her vengeance is completed. I really liked the characters in this book. They are complicated and not perfect. There is some graphic sex scenes so be aware of that. All in all, I thought this was a really good book and I would recommend it.

I didn't read book one but I didn't find that it's absolutely necessary to get the story. I love Mae she's amazing she survived all those years in the mirror realm with her mind and humanity. She's a fighter with a lot off guts and sass which I love. But the scene that got me the most was when she cried as she got out of her prison and saw colors and the sunset. Helen Scott proved again that she can wrap action, monsters, steam and powerful characters into a great book.

Fabulous! This second book continues where the first left off and it just keeps getting better! Mary and her men encounter more challenges as they continue to search for this darkness that has emerged after Mary was freed. They also encounter personal challenges between each other that slowly work them selves out. It’s a non stop rollercoaster ride to the end of the book and then you are left hanging on a ledge! You will be begging for more by the end! Love it!! Cannot wait to see what happens next! 💜🖤

This is the second book in the series, and should not be read as a stand alone.

The book picks up right where the first one left off, and like Mae, we barely have a moment to catch our breaths!

There's a lot of world building here, we find out a lot more about who - and what - everyone is, and how Mae ties in overall. Her return from the Mirror Realm has had a massive impact. The action is fast and gory, and the relationship scenes, both romance and bromance, give a welcome respite!

Overall good book, with a hell of a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to see where it all goes next.

Bloody Mary aka Mae (FMC) finds herself in the middle of a war between good and evil but sides are blurred to who is which. That includes her. More secrets surface about why Mae was imprisoned and by who. Hunter, Grim, Alastair & Ellis also have all manner of Supernaturals coming out to cause trouble. The action and the tension has gone up a level in this book as well as a bit of hot sexy times. This series just keeps getting better and better. That cliffhanger ending was killer too. Its a flaming fabulous read and i cant wait for the next book now

To say I love this story is an understatement. This book was just as good as the first! Honestly, the story becomes more and more fascinating. You just don't want to put it down! Addicting and mind-blowing!

The guys have finally come around and are willing to stand by Mae and face the consequences. Mae is slowly discovering new things about herself and who is now after her. But it seems time has run out and the seeker has found what he was looking for. The question now remains, how will this all play out?

Interesting..

I wasn't to sure about this next book until about half way. Not only did Ellis piss me off with him being an a hole but I just for some reason wasn't feeling the vibe. However, about halfway through things picked up. There was way more action, both steamy and other. There was a more clear relationship established(at least talk about one), along with tid bits of Mae's memories popping up. Add that to the great cliff hanger and the need to know this mysterious evil lurking, and you got me intrigued and ready for book 3.

disappointing but that ending tho

in the second to last chapter i decided not to read the next book but the cliffhanger almost convinced me.

The romance is just so throwaway and their relationship is just a feeling of connection and lust. As a romance series, this just disappointed me. As a story of bloody Mary, it interests me. Her powers and her past, even her quest for revenge. It could have been written to be a little more satisfying but I love her character. And dislike the love interests’ povs so i might be biased.

Wow wow wow. This book is seriously addictive! An RH with a horror twist, this second book about Bloody Mary was awesome. A totally original story, with monsters and legends crawling out of the woodwork, evil warlocks and the ultimate bad guy. The relationships continue to build, with tension and delicious moments that make your heart pound with yearning. A cliffhanger ending (which I personally don't mind) that leaves you in high anticipation for book 3.
