A twist of fate has left Aidan MacWilliam, younger brother of a medieval Irish laird, trapped in the future. Though he’s become a successful entrepreneur in the twenty-first century, Aidan still can’t banish thoughts of the world he left behind. In search of distraction, he heads to New York to scout a publicity manager for his cousin’s matchmaking firm, Celtic Connections.
Emmaline Perkins is the perfect candidate. A PR expert and closet medievalist, Emma has always put work before her social life. When her ex-fiancé resurfaces and threatens her livelihood, her home, and ultimately her safety, a new client proposes an offer she can’t refuse – a job, travel, and security.
As they fall for each other, Emma struggles to keep her professional and personal lives separate, and Aidan’s determined to meld them together. When it’s clear Emma’s ex will stop at nothing to claim her, Aidan realizes that the question is not where she’ll be safe, but when…
Born and raised near Boston, MA, Nancy wrote her first romance novel at age 16, when she realized that fictional boyfriends were much easier to figure out than real ones. In the time since, she managed to earn her B.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, obtain a graduate certificate in creative writing from the University of Cambridge, and marry the man of her dreams (but she still holds tight to her fictional boyfriends).
Nancy adores all things misty, caffeinated, chocolate, and grammatically correct. Currently living in northern Virginia, she spends her time reading, writing, raising her children, and watching too many Hallmark Channel movies.
After finding myself enjoying The Winter Laird despite the lack of smut, I knew that I need to stick with this series. I love the time travelling aspect of the story and this time around the story is about the laird's younger brother, Aidan MacWilliam.
I'm a little bummed that at the beginning of the book, Aidan already spent eight years trapped in the modern world. He amass his wealth, and now a successful entrepreneur, keeping in touch with both Colin and Reilley. Aidan long to return home, but fate doesn't permit him to do so. When Colin suggest him to engage with a potential PR expert in New York, Aidan didn't expect to be attracted to the woman who loves the medieval arts.
Emmaline Perkins is a sought after PR expect in her field. After a disastrous fall out with her ex-fiancee than turned into a deranged ex-lover, her life was turned up side down. Add in a sexy as sin, Aidan MacWilliam who wanted to hire her to help him bid for a medieval sword in an elite auction, Emma is way over her head and couldn't catch a break.
The thing I like about the story, is the writing and the well pace plot, with all the great supporting characters. There isn't a dull moment with Colin and Reilley around to add in to the drama. Of course the deranged ex-fiancee is very much a dramatic moment whenever he pop out to make a threat. The way he manage to find Emma no matter how far Aidan whisk her away is totally unbelievable. You wouldn't have thought a crazy, penniless man can be so resourceful.
However, the thing that didn't really sold me is the romance. I don't feel the chemistry and love between Aidan and Emma. The most I can feel is the attraction towards each other beauty and physique. The fact that Aidan being a white knight in shinning armor trying to save the damsel in distress doesn't really make an impact to Emma emotionally. She keep trying to refuse his help and when she finally does accept, she think he is being chivalrous. Beside the random kisses that didn't lead to anything, there isn't any moment that makes me think there is love blossoming.
With time travelling plotline, is easy to be confused with how things work or maybe spot a plot hole or two. I don't understand why Aidan was trapped in 21st century for eight years with Reilley refusing to bring him back, reason being he was not ordered to. Because when they are in dire situation, all of a sudden Reilley can bring them back and forth. I just feel sad to see Aidan miss his home and family for so long and for what purpose? There are some explanation here and there within the story, but I'm too daft to really understand.
I'm so happy to having received this through Netgalley!!!
I loved this one as much as I loved the previous book!!!
The story is similar to that of Bri and Nioclas, but here it's the hero, Aidan, Nioclas' brother, that gets stuck in the future!
I loved how he managed to be a very successful businessman and how he very well adapted to modern times! :)
Still in him his warrior soul is still very much alive and when they're both forced to go back in time, it comes out completely!
The heroine, Emma, is a very unlucky girl! She gets fired, her apartment is vandalized, her ex stole all her money, he's threatening to kill her if she doesn't give him more money, there're his creditors who're threatening her too... OMG!!! What else???
But even if Aidan is attracted to her he doesn't want to commit because of ... Idiot man!
Also Emma had some idiotic notions, but they're due to Aidan's conflicting actions. He's sending very confusing messages: he wants to protect Emma (he actually just wants Emma. Full stop!), he want's to help her... then he rejects her, than he kiss her, than he rejects her again... over and over again...
Their problems don't resolve when they go back in time and meet with Nioclas and Bri. No, they get worse, also because of Aidan who still don't want to admit his love for Emma and because his caveman/I'm-a-mighty-warrior-and-you-will-do-as-I-say attitude!
Obviously there's a HEA, but you get to suffer till the last pages to get it!
Still a great, great book!!! I hope we'll get Reilly's story soon, because i would really like to have all his secrets revealed! :)
I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. This is book two in the "Mists of Fate" by Nancy Scanlon. I have not yet read the first book 'The Winter Laird ' (but now I want it!) so for me this was a standalone book. There was some time travel, macho men and a stalker. Emmaline Perkins seem to have it all at one point...but that slowly ended. They man she was engaged to she caught cheating on her. Then he was put in jail for getting into a fight. So her personal went out the window...next came her job. Emmaline was a PR and although some of the other people didn't like her as much she was doing a good job. But that all ended when her ex got out of jail and started ruing her career. Emmaline met Aidan MacWilliam who wanted her to help him with an auction where unknown to Emmaline, Aidan was trying to get back his sword and other belongings. While Aidan was trying to convicne Emmaline to join him with his goal of getting he things back... Aidan sees what Emmaline's ex is doing and Aidan sets out to help her. Emmaline and Aidan have much to overcome to get them to their happy ending.
This review was originally posted on Addicted To Romance Summary Aidan MacWilliam, is trapped in the future and is eager to return home. He has accumulated business interests and wealth. He heads to New York to find a PR expert for his cousin Colin. Emmaline Perkins, has a secret love for anything medieval and she has talents in PR. But when her ex fiancee gets out of prison, her life spins out of control. He takes all of her money, causes horrid gossip and rumor through the scandal sheets to ruin her career, and her only safety next is Aidan. Who offers her a prestigious job offer, and she is left with little choice. But even though she wants to keep her relationship with Aidan a professional one, there is a chemistry between herself and Aidan. Her ideas of life change however when her life is threatened by her ex, and she is thrown into a whirl of time and space and taken back to medieval Ireland. But will Aidan and Emma find their happily ever after, or be separated by time forever?
Plot and Story Line An Enchanted Spring is the second book in this series, and we get Aidan's book. And boy did have a fun time with this one. I alwas liked Aidan in the first book, so I was very eager to read his story. I love a good time travel romance, and Nancy Scanlon did a fantastic job with the plot. I loved seeing this pair have moments in both time periods. In the beginning, their relationship is full of chemistry but there is still a boundary between them, mostly because Emmaline, has set it there. She doesn't know what to think of her connection to Aidan, but she has been betrayed in the past, and is uneasy to begin another relationship with a man she is unsure of. However their relationship begins to change when they have to take a certain course of action to protect Emmaline from her ex even if that means traveling back in time. Now I have to say that this is the moment in the book that really did it for me. We see the true nature of Aidan. In the modern era, he hides a part of himself so he can be the perfect businessman. However, Emmaline even senses that he is withholding a part of himself from her. Aidan is NOT a modern man in any sense of the word. He is a medieval Irish warrior, and is bold as brass when it comes to going after what he wants. We see some fun moments, and thrills with a tournament scene that is the best part of the story, but it also solidifies the relationship that these two have with each other.
Sometimes, when your soul finds it's mate, it lets out a great sigh, and with it, you fall
I do want to point out that there is some emotional drama toward the end that seriously had me in tears----actually I was practically sobbing, and this is what makes Scanlon a pure talent. She twists out certain emotions for the reader, but these two do find a HEA. I do want to mention the heat of the story. It is fairly light, mostly just kissing and fondling. But I have been okay with that, since I read romance for the love story. It was refreshing, to read a author that focuses on the emotion more than the sex. But wow can she portray a great kissing scene or two!! Like honestly, I wanted to grab the next handsome stranger and receive such toe curling kisses. Another aspect I truly adored, was the history and culture of the medieval Irish. I don't know much, since not many authors explore this setting. But many different moments in the book, had me eager to buy Irish fables and tales and I loved how she cultivates a historical interest in the reader that you want to know more about this rich culture. The Cover WHAT a cover...I just love it!! I really like the tone of colors in it, has a nice spring earthy feel to it, with the background of the Irish cliffs, and man I love a sexy man with a sword. Look at all that delicious muscle. I just want to pet him. hehe Overall View A superbly written romance that any romance lover can fall heads over heels in love with!! It is full of danger, excitement, fate and magic and an enticing love story that will shed some tears but leave a smile on your face!! BRILLIANTLY WRITTEN!!
I'm yours. Then, now, and forever Aidan. I love you
At first I wasn’t sure I wanted to read this book because I was a little iffy on the first book in the series. I decided to take a chance and I’m glad I did because this book was SO much better than the first! It was much more original and less cookie cutter than the first which was a BIG plus. I also enjoyed this couple way more than the couple in the first book!
An Enchanted Spring is the story of Aidan MacWilliam's who we meet in bk.1 The Winter Laird. In The Winter Laird Nicolas MacWilliams sent is brother Aiden on a mission which lands him 500 years into the future. There in the future Aidan becomes a very successful billionaire he has done very well in the 8 years he has been gone from his brother and Clan. Aiden is asked to interview Emmaline/Emma Perkins of a PR firm Price Publicity. Emma's ex finance is suppose to be in Prison for Assault on a bouncer. Matthew MacDemott is a stalker sexual predator and somehow gets released from prison and stalks and tries to kill Emma and Aidan. He thinks of Emma as a positions. After many attempts to kill her and Aidan and scare her into submission. Aidan takes Emma with the help of the Time Travel Protector Reilly O'Malley back in time to Aidan's Clan and his brother Nicolas.
This is more a Adventure type story then an Romance. There is no loving making its a very "Clean Read" just a few kisses. There is no real Romance at all. The Angst between the H/H makes no sense and goes on until the end of the book. Sorry!! I can't Recommend this series to lover of Time Travel Romance Stories. Its written on the level for young Teens!!
REVIEW:This review can also be found here at my blog. In the second book of Nancy Scanlon's time travel series with sexy Irish heroes, we have Aidan MacWilliam. Those who have read Winter Laird, know that he is Nioclas' brother and as he got pushed to the future by accident, he is trapped there. It isn't necessary to have read Winter Laird to enjoy An Enchanted Spring.
Though he is stuck in the future and misses his clan very badly, Aidan has managed to make a living for himself. As a result of careful investments and many other tactics he is quite the billionaire now.But he is still dissatisfied and wishes to return home.He is hoping for a way by which he will be able to travel back to his time.
Colin, noticing his unhappiness sends him to New York to scout a particular candidate for a PR position in Celtic Connections as a distraction for the timebeing(or is it?).At the same time he would also get his sword and other possessions back from a Medieval Auction. The candidate is the lovely Emmaline Perkins, our other protagonist.
Emma is a kickass PR professional and closet medievalist. She has a degree in Medieval Thought and Antiquities. She has also been having a string of bad luck lately. Not only did she find out that her fiance had been cheating on her with one of her clients, after she called off the wedding he had the nerve to threaten her for money which he owes to some dangerous people.Putting him in jail also hasn't stopped him.As he has been let out on parole, he manages to ruin one of her accounts, thereby causing her PR company to fire her.The people he owes money to are also after her and her life is threatened.
But, dont worry, Aidan is there to protect her ;)(not that she needs it).Emma is a strong, independent heroine.I loved her intelligence and quick wit.The love that she had for medieval antiquities and her knowledge about them is fascinating.Aidan is also captured by her intelligence. And as all MacWilliam men do, he wants to protect her at all costs. He hires her and in turn offers her safety too.
"What your makeup man said earlier. You are indeed a swan.Elegant grace, gentle beauty. But when you try to scare it,it fights back with everything its got."
In addition to all the problems that they have, there is also Aidan's desire to return to his clan.He feels he owes his brother and his loyalty to Nioclas doesn't let him fully settle with Emma. The chemistry between the two was well done. Its fun to be back with Colin and Reilly again.I loved the fact that we were able to see Nioclas and Bri in this book.It made me happy to see them settled and content. The world that Nancy has created is fascinating with the restrictions of time travel. They can't use it whenever they want.Personally I liked this book a lot better than the first and Nancy's writing has also improved a lot.I can't wait to read Colin's book next though I am disappointed that we have to wait another year for it.I hope the one after that is Reilly's book!
So. if you're searching for a fun but action packed book with time travel and sexy Irishmen look no further! Also, go here for an excerpt from the book and enter the giveaway for a chance to win one of the 5 print copies of An Enchanted Spring that Nancy is giving away!!
In Nancy Scanlon's second installment of her time travel series, Mists of Fate, we get to see how a medieval Irish warrior adapts to the modern world in present-day New York City and Boston.
An Enchanted Spring takes place approximately eight years after we left off in The Winter Laird. At the end of book one, Aidan MacWilliam was gravely injured and swept forward in time to save his life. In this book, Aidan has been in the modern world for 8 years. He has adapted well, having earned a fortune by investing, opening authentic Irish restaurants, and purchasing real estate. While he is still a medieval warrior yearning for his own time and clan, he certainly can don an expensive suit and mingle with the upper echelon of society without much pause.
Colin, who took over the Celtics Connections matchmaking service when Brianna traveled back in time, sends Aidan to vet a publicity rep that he wants to hire. Emmaline Perkins loves her job at Price Publicity, fixing messes in rich people's lives. Unfortunately she did a poor job at her own life, having found her fiance in bed with her client, and then having him threaten her life for the insurance payout. When Emma's life goes to hell, she becomes an irresistible damsel in distress for our medieval warrior.
This story had more of a contemporary romance feel than a time travel novel. The majority of the book takes place in modern times, where Aidan has already adapted, so we missed out on all his new experiences. That is really one of the best aspects of the time travel stories for me, seeing the person adapt to a new time and custom. So I was bummed that we missed out on that with Aidan. Then once everyone does travel back in to the 15th Century, it almost seems a non-issue for our heroine. She doesn't believe one minute, then the next scene she seems to be accepting everything without another thought.
While I enjoyed the story, I felt disconnected to the characters. The hot and cold relationship seemed manufactured, and nothing occurred to draw me into a strong tie or emotional connection to any one character. Even the bickering between Aidan and Reilly felt forced. While there was a villain present in the story (Emma's ex-fiance), his character had too much going on to be believable. Originally he seemed to only want her money, but that warped into a weird obsession with her, and finally devolved into a drug addiction which, again, seemed too conveniently contrived.
So I didn't enjoy this one as much as The Winter Laird, but I'm interested enough to continue on with the series and see if Colin and Reilly get their HEA.
I received an advanced copy of this book from Diversion Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. 3 stars / 1 flame.
I loved Aiden in the previous book and was so happy to read his story. Sadly I was very disappointed with this one. No longer was he the fun-loving, carefree, playboy he was in “The Winter Laird” but he was broody and aloof most of the time which made me feel like I was reading about a completely different character.
Aiden’s feelings for/relationship with Emma progressed way too quickly. Considering how adamant he was about not getting married he fell in love unbelievably fast and I couldn’t really enjoy their romance. Emma was also really annoying. I get that she wants to be independent and make her own way but seriously, someone tried to kill you 3 times within 2 days, maybe you should accept help from the person that helped you out and was willing to watch your back 🤨
Even her denial of her growing feelings for Aiden was irritating. Sure you want to keep things professional and don’t want to go into uncharted territory by getting too personal but decide that BEFORE you almost sleep with him. That’s just frustrating because then she’s sending mixed signals and has poor Aiden feeling out of his depth.
While I did enjoy certain aspects of the story (Ry, Collin, Bri, Nick & Cian) this story wasn’t great. The plot was interesting (subplots were unnecessary) but it was poorly executed and so it unravelled rather unflatteringly. Still hoping that Collin & Ry’s stories are better.
Content: Clean, Kissing (PG-13), Mild innuendo

I delighted in this second book in the “Mists of Fate” series, even more than the first. I am thoroughly enjoying this series and am excited for the third book. The third is about Colin. I am happy that Colin is getting a book, but I also hope that Reilly finds love too! It's funny how these characters grow on you and I'm being completely honest when I say I was a little jealous that Emma was fussed over and protected by these gorgeous, capable Irish men.
One of the first things that hit my mind when I started reading “An Enchanted Spring” was that I wanted an Aidan MacWilliam of my very own. He may have been a medieval warrior. But he fit in just fine in modern times where he meets Emma, the woman who will change his life. Aidan was valiant, honorable, and charismatic. He had Emma under his spell before she even knew what was happening and though she tried to fight it, his allure was too much.
Fantastic adventure. Broiling danger. Alluring Irishman. Intoxicating chemistry. Travel through time. Historical Romance. I think this hit most of my romance wish list and then gave me more. There is no question in my mind if I will read this again. Only when I will read it again. Which may be sooner than necessary. I am heading to the bookstore to get the first one in the series.
Aidan. Aidan. Aidan. Future savvy businessman and past warrior. Times a come a changing and this man adapts with the blow of the wind. He was also misguided and a bit, well shall I say and idiot. Protect. Serve. Protect. Taste. Protect. Ravish. Protect. The contradictions going on within were relayed well.
Emma was a woman with a past. A woman with trouble on her tail and wanting to live there. An ex. His problems. She breaks free. So she thinks. She gets a fresh start and almost begins to live again before the ex comes back. There was drama, danger, chemistry, combustion.
These two were a pair in the future and united in the past. Aidan and Emma set the pages aflame with the chemistry they have. There adventures makes the perfect read. The danger adds and extra layer to this beautifully written historical/contemporary time traveling romance.
Nancy Scanlon you have done an outstanding job. Put me on the list as must have the next Mists of Fate. **This ARC was provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**
I love this time-travel series! There is a lot of history AND romance intertwined in the pages ... plot twists and surprises ... it's like a Hallmark movie into history!!
First of all, Aidan is my new book boyfriend - I'm so in love with him. Usually I don't get really excited about a romance with no sex but oh my word, you don't need it. Nancy rocked it with this one!
Emma Perkins’s world seems to be constantly in turmoil lately between competition at work, her love life in shambles, and worry that her ex-fiancé will get out of jail and follow through on his threats to come after her, it just seems easier to fall into a bottle of wine than deal. Add trying to land a new account more important to her boss than any other featuring a sexy, handsome man with more money than God and her world is definitely out of control. When she’s fired, her apartment trashed, and her bank account cleaned out, it’s the handsome billionaire who comes to her rescue, only she isn’t the type to be rescued…or so she thought.
Aidan MacWilliam disappeared from 13th C. Ireland to find himself in a modern world instead…but he has adapted and made do, and made do very well. He is now a man of property and wealth, but still he yearns to return to his home and his family in his proper time. When Colin O’Rourke asks him to go to New York City to inquire about a publicist he has in mind to help Celtic Connections expand, Aidan agrees because he hopes, in turn, she might assist him in obtaining his sword which is coming up at auction in NYC too. When he meets Emma Perkins, he knows there is more to meeting her than planned. When he discovers her in danger, it’s only natural for him to extend his protection to the woman fated to be his.
Nancy has created a wonderful cast of characters in her Mists of Fate series, of which we love to meet up with again, and again, but Aidan MacWilliam was my favorite from the beginning and I was not disappointed in how Nancy turned him into a first-class hero/gentleman/laird/Irish warrior. Emma is a strong-willed force of her own and a perfect match for the charming, and willful Irish knight in shining armor from the 13th century.
AN ENCHANTED SPRING, book two in the Mists of Fate series by Nancy Scanlon is a wonderful story filled with excitement, danger, a bit of suspense, and although, it is far more a G-rating than I usually go for in regards to sex, I actually didn’t miss it. The sexual tension blooming between Emma and Aidan is enough to blow the pages right out of the book and yet, they never actually consummate their relationship within the bindings. I love it. Aidan is one hot man and justifiably listed among my all-time favorite book boyfriends now. I started falling in love with him in THE WINTER LAIRD, but it didn’t take long to fall under the power of his charms in AN ENCHANTED SPRING.
A wonderful, and delightful story, with clever and teasing banter among Aidan and the guys - Colin, Reilly, and Cian - and Emma is a perfect addition to the Mists of Fate family. I highly recommend AN ENCHANTED SPRING by Nancy Scanlon to everyone who enjoys falling love among the pages of a sterling romance with hints of the supernatural akin to Outlander with a bevy of hot Irish Jamie Frasers in the character list. I wish I could tell you more about the happenings but I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone…these are stories to be experienced without spoilers. So if you haven’t read the first, do so and then read, and enjoy AN ENCHANTED SPRING. You won’t be disappointed. I expect even better things to come in the Mists of Fate series. Nancy is fast growing into a wonderful storyteller. ***eARC provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.
Nancy Scanlon gives us continued proof here in An Enchanted Spring that a good, clean romance can be just as deeply satisfying as a naughty one. And while you're at it, you can add suspense, drama, time travel and characters you'll love...I sure did!
I previously read The Winter Laird, the first book of this series, and loved it. I was very happy to see returning characters from that story, and to get to know our new leading lady, Emma, here in An Enchanted Spring. She's strong, determined, and ready to take care of herself-even if she's not sure how she'll do it-and proves to be a feisty, resilient woman even in the face of extreme danger.
The relationship between Emma and Aidan (our leading man) runs hot and cold, mostly due to the circumstances that bring them together. I do love though how protective he is of her right from the very beginning, and that never wavers throughout the story no matter what is going on.
The story captivated me from the start, and I was thrilled to be pulled back into the past I first encountered in The Winter Laird. I found it still as fascinating as when I read the first book, and I was fully invested in Emma and Aidan...to the point where events that happen to them near the end of the story had me wiping some tears away because my heart was hurting along with both Emma and Aidan.
An Enchanted Spring was another 5-star read for me, and I highly recommend it to fans of time travel romance, contemporary romance, heck any romance in general. This series so far has been excellent, and I can't wait for more!
Aidan has been trying to get back to the 1400’s to be with his clan for almost a decade when his “cousin” Colin sends him to New York to vet a new PR candidate for their Celtic Connections matchmaking business. With both Aidan and Emmaline in the Celtic Connections database was Colin REALLY looking for a new PR employee or playing matchmaker? Aidan is intrigued by Emma’s knowledge and wit and there is definitely chemistry between them. But, with Aidan hoping to return to a previous time period and Emma a modern woman living in the present a long term relationship is not likely. When her life is turned upside down by a stalker ex-fiancé with debts arriving back from prison her life is threatened in more ways than one. Aidan takes Emma under his wing as an employee but he does want more and sets out to woo her. Before the end of the novel there is time travel, wooing, a joust, medieval matchmaking and a difficulty to overcome if the two are to have their happily ever after.
I enjoyed this book with its and would like to read the stories of Cian, Colin and Reilly along with any other characters that might show up in future books of the series. This is definitely not a book based in reality but it is a fun read with hunky alpha males and time travel. I would have liked to hear how many children Brianna and Nicolas (book 1) had but finding out that she is happy and thriving was a nice perk to this story, too. Thank you to NetGalley and Diversion Books for the ARC to read in exchange for my honest review.

This one was harder for me to engage with because I had to suspend belief so many times.
- How did Aiden become so filthy rich in a mere 6 years? He said he languished for the first two years of being in the future, and then he started to invest and get into real estate, and became unfathomably rich within the next 6 years. Yeah, that’s not believable for him to grasp modern day markets, culture, and economy in a couple years. He’s suave and debonair, the perfect business man with fantastic modern people skills, surrounded by luxury and every convenience, and it was just a VERY BIG PILL to swallow to imagine that he could achieve that level of modern integration in 8 years.
- And why would Cian dedicate his life to Aiden’s service even in modern times? He was like a servant.
- How are the modern MacWilliams (Colin, James, Reilly) so devoted to Emma? They literally don’t even know her. ?!
- How is Aiden still so amazing at jousting when he hasn’t practiced in 10 years?!
- How did they fall in love that fast? The entire romance gives me whiplash.
I’m just not buying any of it.
The romance was disappointing.
From Emma’s perspective, once Aiden started saying, “I’m your laird now,” in addition to already being really pushy and overprotective, that would have been a HUGE RED FLAG that he’s a psycho. Then when he and his buddies switched into medieval garb? Yeah, that would have been the final straw, but Emma was just confused. It diminished the enjoyment for me. They hardly knew each other at all, and he was so overprotective… it was just very odd behavior and he moved their relationship way too fast.
Aiden began as a modern suave businessman, like I mentioned before, and then suddenly morphed into a complete caveman the next: overbearing and sort of controlling. I just wasn’t as into him as I wanted to be.
I kept wondering if I should DNF. But I skim read to the end. It wasn’t worth it. Everything was too easy and convenient. I didn’t like Aiden. I didn’t feel anything between Emma and Aiden. Chemistry was low, the story was shallow, the characters were boring, and the writing was just okay. I won’t continue with the series.
Content: Language- no swearing Sex- no sex scene. Some kissing. The hero is sexually experienced, but the book doesn’t harp on it. Once Reilly intimated that he was going to hook up with some castle women while visiting. He’s the hero in his own book in this series, but the whole casual-sex-is-harmless attitude is a total turnoff. Cover- meh I read this on KU
How I Rated This Series:
1) The Winter Laird - 4 stars 2) An Enchanted Spring - 2 stars (Did not continue the series)
I am not a romance type of reader because I don’t like the constant sex scenes basically describe the same thing ad nauseam so I hesitated to try this series with so few reviews. The first book was a suggestion in my Kimdle Unlimited list and omg, I am SO glad I downloaded it.
My background includes antiquity and horses, I love medieval history and great writing so this series is a gem that checks many boxes. In the first book I commented that the modern heroine couldn’t possibly ride a horse without previous experience or lessons. Someone earlier must have clued the author in on that one because in this second book, the female lead, Emma, is perfectly (and a bit comically) described as the novice (and very sore) person she is after her long ride with Aiden on his large horse as they gallop for home.
These stories are as much historical fiction as romance though the romantic interactions definitely are central to the book..just not that sappy kind of romance (that makes me wonder if it was intended for a woman and her hand held device and I don’t mean her phone haha) not even close. It’s about how tantalizing and desirous sex could be with someone you love when you finally find (and sometimes lose) the special person your soul desires. Some pages brought me to tears, the yearning is so heartfelt and the dialogue so well spoken/written.
The author beautifully weaves information about Medieval social interactions, celebrations, domestic situations and clan rules while subtly differentiating the fictionalized parts by having the characters state that it is “the way the MacWilliam clan does things that other clans may or do not do”.
I was captivated and laughing out loud when Emma suddenly finds herself in the Middle Ages believing Aiden needs a psychiatric exam or perhaps this is all an elaborate reenactment. That was great! I am hooked on this series and I’m a very picky reader, frequently quitting books that have “eye roll” scenes or imho not well written. I’m so glad the entire series is available so I don’t have to wait for the next one. YAY! Haha...yes I’m binge reading them, they are a perfect escape from this dreary pandemic and the awful news headlines.
I didn’t summarize the story because everyone else does that :-)
I’ve read the first 2 books and am very excited to read the last 2! I love everything about this series‼️I’ve always enjoyed well written time travel books since my first one about 30 years ago. These are the first books I’ve read by this author, but I’ll definitely be reading all of her novels, whether they’re time travel or not. She is an excellent writer who uses such wonderful, exciting, and descriptive prose that it makes you able to see it and be completely pulled into the story. I felt as though I was right there with them, seeing what they saw, feeling what they felt, and totally emotionally caught up in their feelings both good and bad. I highly recommend this series if you enjoy these types of stories because I can truly promise that you will not be disappointed and will be as enthralled with them as I am❣️Happy and Delightful Reading‼️👌🏼🤗📚🧡
This series just keeps getting better Following on from book One Aidan MacWilliam, Laird Nioclas’ younger brother is sent on a quest and does not return. Feared dead by his clan but really trapped in the future he longs to return home. Emmaline Perkins ends up on the O’Rourke’s radar by Colin, owner of Celtic Connections who sneakily arranges for Aiden to meet with her as his company requires a publicity manager. She just happens to be perfect not only for the job but for Aiden. Emma’s life implodes and she finds herself in grave danger. Aiden comes to her rescue and they end up going back in time to Aiden’s family. Even there she is in much danger. The storyline was fantastic and I found myself a couple of times sobbing along while listening to this audiobook. An amazing read and narration which I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend.
Celtic Connections is a unique matchmaking service started by Brianaugh O'Rourke,as seen in the first book . A 5 star review missing by me . She is swept off to 15th century Ireland in her own romance . In this story Aiden MacWilliam is a multi millionaire , who is to hire an Emma line Perkins to work with the company on PR issues . Her situation is dire yet she stubbornly thinks she can handle it in spite of death threats and demands from her ex fiance . Put two stubborn people together and there is a clash, especially when to save her life she ends up in 15th century Ireland , Aidan ' s true home .
I'm so excited to be posting about this book as it's finally release day and I can share my excitement. I received this ARC earlier this month and I couldn't wait to read it because though I hadn't read the series, I love reading anything to do with the Celts which this book was full of.
The time era takes place mostly in the 21st Century though it does travel back to the Medieval Ireland around the 1460's. This particular story is about Emma Perkins and Aidan MacWilliam who have both had their fair share of hard times and fate brings them together in the form of Colin O'Rourke who is Aidan's cousin and the owner of Celtic Connections, a business that has a variety of interests including wanting to bring Emma into the fold.
Emma leads a busy life being a PR expert for Price Publicity, has a secret love of Medieval Irish artifacts, who just wants to move on from the terrible things her ex-fiancé Ben MacDermott who seemed like a nice down to Earth guy until she caught him cheating about seven months ago, threw him out and soon he was threatening ruining her if she didn't give him money to pay off some people he owned. Eventually Ben ended up in jail and she worries that day that he gets out, he'll come after her. So to try to put her past behind her, she's thrown herself into her work and is surprised when she's approached by Aidan to help with a special PR project. From the moment she meets him, she feels a connection especially when she finds out he wants her help with buying Medieval Irish artifacts at a special auction that only certain people are allowed to attend. Just as things are slowly starting to fall into place, a scandal ensues involving her ex and she's without a job, or so she thinks until Aidan convinces her to come work for him and things get complicated from there.
Aidan is a smart, sexy, confident Irish man who loves his family and is a man out of time, literally. Aidan was born in the 1400's and through a twist of fate found himself in the 21st Century. Hoping to go back home some day, he whiles away the time helping out his cousin with Celtic Connections, spends most of his free time at his cottage in Ireland when he's not in the Boston area and is slowly adjusting to being in the modern times. When he meets Emma, he feels an instant connection and finds himself extending a job offer and his protection when Emma finds herself in trouble. While Aidan has become mostly accustomed to living in the modern world, his views on things are certainly from his upbringing and he insists on whisking Emma away from danger and off to his cottage in Ireland. Then things get really complicated when Ben follows them and Aidan finds out that he can indeed go back home to his family in the 1400's.
Much to Emma's disbelief, Aidan and a couple of his cousins whisk her off to the 1400's and though it takes a while, when she realizes that it's not a dream, she's delighted at seeing a time in history that she's only read of in books and instantly loves where Aidan came from. This time period is not without its dangers though and Emma finds herself falling for Aidan, loving his family and trying to adjust to life in 1465 Ireland which is has its own set of complicated rules and customs. Emma can't help being drawn to Aidan who is a confusing mix of attentive at times and aloof at others.
When danger finds this unlikely pair, it will take the help of family, time travel and the power of love to keep Aidan and Emma from being separated permanently. I won't give away the details on that particular information and it is well worth reading to find out for yourself.
I really loved both of these characters despite their stubbornness and things would have gone smoother had they tried to communicated more. Granted, the fact that both are from different centuries has a lot to do with it and they're in the process of getting to know each other and thrown into a lot of complicated situations in a short amount of time.
Emma is stronger than she realizes, has a heart of gold and isn't afraid to speak her mind when Aidan tries to be particularly bossy. I love how she immersed herself fully into his time, how she developed such a connection with his family and has such a big heart. I'm so glad that she kicked Ben out on his rear. Her old boss really didn't appreciate what a treasure he had as an employee though thankfully Aidan realized what a gem she was in more ways than one.
Aidan may have his bossy stubborn ways but he's also a man with a big heart, loves his family fiercely and takes care of Emma which is very endearing. He really knows how to wield a sword and really is quite the romantic beneath the gruff exterior that he often shows to the world. I can see why Emma found herself drawn to him.
This book was a fascinating mix of adventure, love, time travel, humor and Celtic history. I loved how descriptive Medieval Ireland was in this book and I could almost imagine being there myself, dressed in one of the beautiful ensembles of that era. This book is second in the Mists of Time series though it's my first glimpse into this series. I'm looking forward to starting from the beginning and then revisiting Aidan and Emma. There's no such thing as too many books about Ireland, particularly the medieval variety and I really hope Nancy has many books up her sleeve about this subject. I also hope that Colin and Reilly get their own special ladies to love!
Discovered this author a couple of days ago while searching for time travel books. Love reading medieval history books. I read her first book and enjoyed it, so I decided to give this one a try as well. I enjoyed this story as well. Easy summer reading on a lazy Covid Sunday afternoon. Loved the characters Nancy has created. The "cousins" are a little crazy and enjoyable to follow. I'm looking forward to reading book 3 - Colin's story.
I have to admit that the author has written another time travel novel with characters that I truly enjoy! It was good to see Nick, Aiden, Colin and Reilly again. I thought the storyline was kind of lame with an obsessed and insane character named Ben. I accept a good protagonist, but his actions were totally unbelievable. Since I also love a happy ending, I will say I'm glad I read it.
Another brilliant and engaging instalment in the Mists of Fate series.
I liked getting to know Aidan in his brother's book, so was fascinated as to where this story would lead. Boy, did this keep me flipping pages!
I read Emma and Aidan's tale in less than 24hrs. So good! The crazy characters, the travel, the danger... and the sizzling sparks between E & A. Yummy!
I also love how invested I am in these people, and totally excited to imbibe Colin's story next. Woot!!!!
I liked book 1 in this series, but book 2 is better. I liked the storyline and the couple more in this book. Anxious to read on, hoping there will be more information and understanding of Reilly, he is such a mystery. Little tidbits about him are dropped like nuggets in each book. I hope his story is told.
Don’t miss reading this series. It seamlessly blends time travel between the present and medieval times. The characters are believable, the angst is real, and the love is enduring. I highly recommend this entire series and I’m ordering the next one as soon as I submit this review!
Awesome book! I cried, I laughed, I wanted to fight for them. What a great read. The characters were out standing. I loved the way they interacted so wonderfully. You could feel, in how the book was written, the love within their clan. I am going to read the rest of the series pronto!!
The second instalment to the series, was as good as the first. Although once you know how it happens you know its coming lol. There are some twists and turns in this and you get to see the first set of characters again which I enjoy. Get the series you wont be disappointed . It is a clean romance, no sex but very romantic
