The fae king once tried to break me, but now… I’m coming for him.
After being exiled from the Fae Islands, I refused to let it stop me from being who I’ve always been: a punisher who gets what she wants. Since then, I’ve found a new start among other supernaturals and humans, enjoying life to its fullest.
That is, until a disarming, yet infuriating, fae named Finn shows up asking for my assistance. The problem? Helping him means going back to the one place I vowed to never return.
Now I must face my past and figure out a way to destroy the fae king who banished me all those years ago. But when the darkness in Finn proves to be problematic, I need to decide whether I’ll stick to my solitary ways and do things my own way…
Or just maybe it’s time to let others in, no matter the risk.
*** This is the first book in a new series featuring a crass anti-hero female lead and recommended for ages 17+ ***

Wow this was so stupid. I’ve never rolled my eyes so much at a character before. She was just arrogant and self-absorbed, but she was a prick too. Maybe the author had some development for her but I hated her too much to see it. The whole time she just talked about herself and how bad ass she was, and how good a fighter she was and blah blah blah. I couldn’t keep reading. Do not recommend.
I'm usually a fan of a dark anti hero main character, but this just didn't work for me. Lucinda didn't come across as having any real depth to her character, and I just couldn't bring myself to really care about her. The same really goes for Finn, and I didn't really feel their chemistry either.
I freaking love this book and I really have to get this off of my chest...I LOVE LUCY! Her character is so sassy and strong but she’s still so vulnerable. She plays off the I don’t care attitude and the I’m a horrible Fae but she really does care. You can see it when she always helps the underdog and doesn’t ever hurt the innocent. She will completely kill a bad guy or make a bully pay but she won’t just hurt someone for no reason. She’s the antihero that you will love.
This book had it all! Let me tell you, the sexual tension between Lucy and Fin was totally burning up the pages. They are so perfect for each other it’s incredible (slow burn anyone?!?). Lucy needs him to be her comfort, support and stability, she just doesn’t know it...yet. I’m just so glad Finn figured it out though! The supernatural world, especially the Fae world, that was built in this book was fantastic and I honestly can’t wait for more. P.S. I want a Neva in my life or to be her. I want pocket worlds to store stuff in 😉
If I was going to stay true to who I was, I couldn’t run from what was happening. I needed to own the new feelings and face them head on. If I got hurt in the process, well, then so would a lot of other people and I would have to deal with that. I didn’t want to be afraid of anything, not even something that could potentially ruin me.
Oh my gosh, I just loved this book.
Lucy is yet another favorite herione/mc that I just love hands down. Much like Tessa Dean from This Dark Wolf and Mia Corvere from Nevernight.
She’s just so sassy, badass, and a complex character. She’s struggling with the darkness inside of her and keeps on questioning the person she wants to be.
Her chemistry with Finn is the best and everything I love in romance. It’s slow burn and steamy and just the right amount of everything.
The plot: kill the Fae king. The Fae King raised Lucy into a monster and she served him, by being his weapon. Never his child. Her parents hate her and sold her away to the king when she was younger, and she’s a dark Fae with unique powers.
I can’t even say how much Lucinda got to me, without pouring out more words of admiration. So let’s just say I loved this book.
I am lucky I have the next two books in this series to keep me company.
So Lucy has been exiled from Fae islands for the last three years .shes been filling in LA building a life for herself and Neva.. She is sort of a supernatural neutralizer.. she sassy and strong but also vulnerable and soft .. even when she doesn’t show it she feels everything.. I love her .. She does bad things to bad people .. for money or favors .. but she’s willing to help pretty much anyone who’s being bullied..
Finn is annoying , hot but annoying ,,and neither of them can deny they are attracted to each other .. but slow burn all the way .. their banter is full of sexuse tension
I love Neva, she’s faithful to Lucy and Lucy thinks it has to do with her saving her but it’s only part of it ..
“I chose to stay with you, because you were alone, not the other way around “- Neva
I love the worlds Heather built and I definitely love the build up ..I am ready for book two ..
This was an interesting book, Lucy had been an assassin for the Fae king until he banished her unfairly.once free of the king’s influence, the moral compass she had for helping supernaturals in need started to reappear. But she still tries to stay unaffected and unattached from everyone except the brownie Neva. When agreed I g to help Finn kill the king, it gets harder and harder to stay alone with her darkness. This is a good book showing Lucy’s loneliness (even if she doesn’t realize it), her fight with her inner darkness and the changes sneaking up on her. I did find somethings similar to AJ in Yvette Bostic’s Call of the Elements series. A fair amount of action, some humour in her reactions and great characters
Heather Renee you have done it again!!! I absolutely love this book. From the very beginning until the last page I was pulled in and did not want to leave. And Lucy? She is one of my favorites ever.....I need more please
Different take on the dark fae. Learning to be yourself but emotion coming online can make everything harder than it needs to be but she’s deadly and gorgeous with a Colonel of light growing
Eeeek oh my gosh guys, you are going to LOVE Heather's upcoming new book! It releases in like three more days and I can't wait for y'all to read it!!! I think I just want to go and read it all over again...it felt like it ended waaay too quickly.
I might do just that
It was one of those books that you lose all sense of time and get so swept up into the story that when the last page comes, you never even realised you were close to the end...and that in itself brings out the two-year-old in you...and all you want to do is wail and scream about the dang page won't turn any more. If you expect me or any book dragon to act all mature about this...think again lol. I know I sure as heck am nowhere near mature, when it comes to a favourite book ending and the drama it pulls out of me. It just can't be helped. 😆
I do feel the need to quickly pre-warn you guys that my head is like really out of it as I write this Ramble, what is with my meds, the last few days I've seriously felt so drugged, ugh. So, honestly, even I don't know where I may lead you today. Don't say I didn't warn you haha.
Okay, back to important matters. Oh yes. I was telling you how awesome this book is. Duh. This book was a highly anticipated read and it did not disappoint (wow dude it took me like seven times before I got the spelling right, should I be admitting this? 🙈😂🤷🏻♀️). It was everything and more than I could've imagined. The main character, Lucinda, is so complex and intriguing and I loved getting inside her head and working out what makes her tick. I think you guys will love her. Heads up she's not all into the people thing and love/emotions....so you gotta be persistent with her and just force her to love you. Kinda like this ↓. 😂 You gotto be stuck to her like glue and being all kick-butt will probably help your case. So first, tackle to ground like so.
Then...don't let go. She'll probably get annoyed but deep down she wants to connect with others, she's just stubborn haha.
Anyways, you are going to love all the characters in this book. I loved watching the development of the characters and how you slowly see their views changing. That was probably my favourite part. I feel the need to give a shoutout to Neva. She's an amazing character. She's of a more reserved nature but loyal to a fault and willing to nudge/guide others in the right direction (mainly Lucinda at this point). She sees something in our girl that others have failed to, and sees beyond what she is and into who she truly is inside...
“I know you don't get it now, but I have hope you will soon. My words won’t change who you are, because you’ve already been changing on your own. You’re just too afraid to admit it because it might make you vulnerable, and I accept that about you. It’s why I’ve stuck around for so long.” “Bulls**t. You had nowhere else to go,” I replied, instantly feeling guilty for snapping at someone I considered a friend, but she was pushing me beyond my comfort level, and I didn’t know how else to act. “That’s where you’re wrong, Lucy. You might have saved me, but just because I was alone at the time, it doesn’t mean I had no one in my life. I chose to stay with you, because you were alone, not the other way around.”
As you can see by that short teaser Neva makes Lucy think, pushes her out of her comfort zone but at the same time doesn't push her beyond a certain point. She truly touched my heart how she is with Lucy and the way she stands by her.
You are so going to love all these characters that Heather has brought to life and you may just fall for a new schmexy male Fae. The chemistry between Lucinda and him is whew. That's some real chemistry.
I loved so much about this story and plot and how it all progressed. The development of plot and characters was done oh so perfectly. It felt real and raw and so many times did I really feel Heather hit the nail on the head, with how she slowly released the information and Lucy's backstory. It just made it all the more meaningful and rawer. And gurl, you hit me majorly in the feels when a certain someone said she was worthy! My chest got all warm and fuzzy inside.
Wow, so I've totally talked your ears off on mainly just the characters...let's get some plot background squeezed in there too...okie doke...well, its a world where we have all the magical creatures. Witches, Shifters, Vampires, Fae (dark and light) etc etc. It starts out in LA where we finally get to meet Lucinda, who is a Dark Fae. She naturally has this darkness inside her that makes her lean more towards punishing those that do wrong and protecting those that are weaker. They tend to drift a bit more to the rebellious side, which can make them great warriors. Anyways, Lucy was exiled from the Fae Islands by the King and that is why she is in LA, her new home, working with supernaturals that don't particularly want to get down and dirty.
But on a job chasing down a particularly strong vampire, she finds herself being followed by another Fae. This is where things start getting especially interesting. This very distractingly H-O-T-T Fae has a new job for her. One she is both hesitant to agree to but one she is also unable to say no to. She had sworn she would never ever return to the Fae Islands, a place that nearly broke her. But it's time to face the past and the demons within...and put an end to the King, the one that nearly destroyed her. Oh boy he better watch out.
Upon returning to her home, not all is as she remembers...obstacles arise and the plans she begins to put into action may not be as simple as she thought. Working alongside people is not something she is used to and especially not with someone who questions her ways and doesn't agree with her or her particular methods (ahem Finn lol). But there's also this darkness within Finn and it calls to her, gets under her skin....she finds it difficult to ignore the connection that is building between them, bringing along with it emotions she can't really process...For our girl, she sees this connection or to care as nothing but a weakness. Feel free to totally blame a particular evil, cruel someone that beat into her, continually, that weaknesses wouldn't be tolerated. That's what I did. I may have also imagined kicking his butt too lol.
It's time for Lucinda to face her past and show the Fae world just what she is made of...and that no one can break her...she has a plan, now she just needs to put it into action. She's trying to find her redemption for all her past wrongs but this new path before her, may be the answer in more than one way...the path she may have been searching for unconsciously for awhile now. But will facing her past be her undoing? Will she finally find her worth and that she is more than enough, especially with the right people at her side?
“There’s a reason I sought you out, and even though I fought accepting who you are at first, I don’t any longer. You are worth fighting for, Lucinda.”
You seriously do not want to miss this new series by Heather Renee! I think this series may just become a new favourite of mine, in the Fae worlds. This is the kind of book that you won't be able to put down. If you're anything like me, you may just wake up with your phone on your face. Yes that totally happened. The night before I had a bad night, high pain and all that jazz, and this book helped me escape. So if you feel the need to get out of your own head, make sure you preorder this baby...and then tell me about all your feels when you're through.
This book seriously gave me all the feels and I cannot wait to see where this story will go. That ending gah! I can't believe it stopped there!
Honestly, girl...this has gotto be your motto too right? Because if not, it should be, since this is literally what you do to me with every book you release.
Girl, I don't care what anyone else says but this is me telling you...
Now I must bid you all adieu because I need to try and sate my book-hangover. I finished last night and I haven't picked up anything new yet...I'm all just like 'ugh it's not good enough' - even though I know there is other stuff out there, my heart is like nope, nope, nope! Let us move on in our own time. Stubborn. Just like Lucinda haha. So meanwhile, I have devoured a bottle of Coke and am now onto hot Milo and TimTams (my brother bought an extra packet when I asked him to grab some for my sisters birthday...so that worked out perfectly well for me so thanks! 😁😍 - haha yes Heather we both have the same weakness...TimTams...Food me now lol...Excuse me while I go dunk and slurp that deliciousness in my Milo). So now, I'm going to go process all my emotions and work out what will grab my attention next...because we all know a Tassi without a book is never a good thing. So Lucifer is saying it all. Maybe he'll come up with my next read lol. Read my blog Mr Ellis so you know my genre style...please and thank you 😂
Thanks as always to my lovely friend Heather, for always sating my bookish needs and for letting me continue to be on your ARC team! I can't wait to see all the wonderful and torturous places you take me next, with this new series. As always Ramblers this is my honest review for this book. Be sure to check out Dark Fae Cursed and be ready for its landing in just three days time on Amazon.
If anyone's interested I do also have a blog Read, Ramble, Repeat...Feel free to jump on that bandwagon too.
Anywho peeps I'd say that was enough rambling for one day.
2.5 but lowered down because it was just really confusing and while it wasn’t for me, it wasn’t an amazing “not for me“ that would prompt three stars.
So. I wanted to try this out because of the author I’ve seen on Instagram. I feel like the writing was getting there but still held a lot of awkwardness. Awkward timing, awkward emotions and awkward reactions.
Lucy is basically a victim who escaped her groomer’s clutches when he banished her from the Fae lands. She was his ultimate weapon to keep a good hand on his kingdom, but she more or less got away and stayed on Earth. Fast forward and you have this woman who chooses to emphasize her badness while giving excuses to do some good. This is where the awkwardness comes in.
I thought she tried too hard to be bad. It worked to an extent, but when Finn got introduced, she wasn’t as “bad A” as initially implied. By first meet, she starts acting like she’s having a hard time holding back years’ worth of emotions just because he’s around. Which implies they’re like fated or something. But that magical tie isn’t exactly highlighted anywhere so it’s harder to convince otherwise. Then there’s her wish-washy ways of trying to be the “bad she always was” and then suddenly having these moments of guilt. I guess I just don’t believe that she’s come across people who’d suddenly make her wanna care again.
The idea was good and at some points, her and Finn were really heating things up. But then it just all fell flat for me. Not terrible but not as great as I feel it could’ve been had things been ironed out.
I don’t think I’ll finish the series right now but maybe one day.
*~*~*~* 𝕊𝕥𝕠𝕣𝕪𝕝𝕚𝕟𝕖: Since her banishment, Lucy, a dark Fae and former bodyguard of the reigning Fae King, has been living her best life in LA, the City of Angels.
With the help of her personal assistant, Neva, she acts as a vigilante for hire—getting rid of the less savory creatures of the night. A job she enjoys without regrets.
However, when an unexpected client arrives with a challenge she can’t turn down, she’s tempted into returning home—to destroy the reigning Fae king.
Now she needs to keep her libido in check as she works with the oh-so-sexy Finn to save the world she was so callously tossed out of years ago. Can she stay focused and finish the job? Or will the many foes of the king beat her to the task? *~*~*~* 𝕊𝕖𝕩 𝕊𝕔𝕖𝕟𝕖𝕤: Ok, so bear with me, while we don’t get any skin-on-skin action in this book we DO get lots of heavy petting and insane amounts of tension! For that alone I’m giving this book a 🔥🔥/5. I can TOTALLY see some more flames getting added to the mix once our two MCs get down to bizzznazzz (fingers crossed it’ll be in book two! 🤞🏻). *~*~*~* 【$】: FREE in KU! If you’re looking for an urban fantasy book that features a badass heroine and a hero who is trying to keep his dark side leashed, go for the DL! Lucy is a flawed and layered character who is still discovering who she is meant to be—I can’t wait to finish her journey!
Possible spoiler. The main character has a quality in her that we are told makes her worth redemption. The character believes that the mission she has given herself is making her a better person. However, she perceives showing mercy toward others as a weakness, so her actions are mainly selfish, cold, and brutal. This makes it difficult for me, the reader, to understand how even an overwhelming sexual attraction felt by another character could overcome any revulsion that is also felt toward her. With that all having been said, the World that the author created is immersive and easily envisioned due to the description, the storyline is interesting, and I was fully invested in the book and eager to read the conclusion of this part of the story for all of the characters that had been introduced so far. I was very unhappy to find a "cliffhanger" at the finish of Book 1. I usually cannot purchase all the books in a series all at the same time and was very disappointed. It would have been more satisfying to me if at least some part of the story had been resolved by the end of the first book.
Sassy, badass MC + addictive writing. Total binge read!
“I had to destroy the last of my demons before they could do the same to me.”
I loved this book and the cover is just beautiful! Lucinda is a powerful, dark fae with an extreme inner darkness created after her years of ‘training’ with the fae king. She is by no means a hero with her ability to pretty much only think in strategy of what’s right < what’s good, kind of an asshole tbh, and she was a crack up with her sassy attitude!
I enjoyed how this story kept me engaged throughout with the world building of the fae islands being seperate to earth, the variety of different characters, plot twists and, despite the turmoil being faced, the banter was beautiful, especially between Lucinda and Finn *waggles eyebrows*.
Little worried for those around her after that kind of brutal ending, but onto the next book we go to find out!
I must say, Lucinda (Lucy) is my favorite of Heather Renee’s character so far. She is my favorite kind of female MC. A little bit broken, sexy as hell and ALOT badass. The layers of her character are so complex. She is fierce, tortured, angry, sad, stubborn, companionate (don’t tell her I said that 😉). And Finn... I’m not sure how I feel about him yet. To clarify, I love his character and the heat that promises to burn my retinas as the chemistry between he and Lucinda unfolds, but I haven’t figured him out... I WILL say, he is stubborn, a little broody, smoking hot (in my mind) and loyal to a fault. Overall, I absolutely loved Dark Fae Cursed. I’m totally invested in Lucinda and Finn’s story. The supporting characters are charming and I’m intrigued by some of the characters that were introduced at the end. I cannot wait to see where this story goes.
What a story. I absolutely love this story. It is packed full of drama, action, and suspense. It has you glued to the story as you can’t put it down. You must see what is going to happen. Lucy is freaking amazing. She is stunning in all her glory. She feisty, stubborn, strong, intelligent, and a kick butt of a Fae. She is one that pulls you in and has you rooting so strongly for her. Finn is one who you love to hate at times. He is protective of the ones he loves and tries to keep everything on the straight and narrow. Together the have amazing chemistry no matter if the are fighting or talking. They really do have magnificent personalities. The descriptions of radiant and allow you to easily picture what is in the scene. Yes, the story does end in a major cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see what happens next. This is an absolute must read!!!!!
DARK FAE CURSED was fantastic. Heather Renee is a wonderful author. This is a bit different than her other series I've read but she nailed it. There's Brooding Fae. Anti-heroine. Light and Dark Fae. Enemies to lovers. Some action. And its SOOOO FREAKING FUNNY. Like I had to pause it to laugh. Definitely a fun read.
And as always Ms Moyen did an outstanding job. I really enjoyed how she portrayed Lucy's dark character. And she differentiates each character so well. . 👉🏼Some Quotes "Ah, my inner darkness decided to come out and play. I wasn't in the mood." . "I learned long ago that caring would give me nothing but heartache" . I was no Vamp Tramp . "Lucy, this is not your fault," she said. And I laughed historically. "I know that. Why would you even say that? I've done nothing wrong. Killing that guard was the right thing to do."
I can't praise this dark beauty enough!! It was unputdownable and entertaining!! Lucy will make you laugh and she'll pull upon your heartstrings and maybe even frustrate you a bit. She's beautiful and she knows it. She's not afraid to get her hands dirty and delights in getting the job done. The world building is pretty magical and the characters are so very well written. The push and the pull between Lucy and Finn is delicious and delightful! If you want a book that is going to make you smile and leave you gasping for breath, this is it!! Heather Renee always captures my heart and my imagination. This beautiful book is a must read for those that have a Fae addiction and love a good anti-hero tale!! This cover is absolutely gorgeous and I'm feeling series cover love!!
I absolutely loved this new fae/fantasy romance from Heather Renee! Lucy is a crass, independent but damaged FMC. She was groomed to be the Fae King’s assassin since she was a young child which almost broke her. At first, Finn does not approve of Lucy or her methods, but as he gets to know her more he slowly starts to soften towards her. This is a perfect slow burn romance and there is soooo much sexual tension between Finn and Lucy. I liked that Lucy was the darker, more twisted character while Finn offered more lightness. It really gave this book a unique feel. I’m sad this is only book 1 because I need more haha! 😆 This is the perfect book if you are a fae/fantasy romance fan and love a good anti-hero.
This book is a fantastic dark jewel that will grab your whole attention from page one to that damn cliffhanger 😭 Lucinda is amazing!!!... strong, fierce, determined... But also, alone and in need of love, she just doesn't know it yet 🤗 Finn is so f'ing hot, strong, determined, willing to do whatever it takes to save his loved ones 😍🔥😘 Both will fight against their mutual enemy for different reasons and not in a so harmonious way 😂, which make this book so damn good, their electric attraction is so 🔥 This installment is a MUST read for all of us who love fae, magic, a badass anti-hero FMC, a hot as f**k alpha male, and a plot that will keep you on edge the whole time, go get your copy now!!! 🖤
If you're scrolling through the reviews to try to see if this bird is worth your while, yes it most certainly is. I started reading this book yesterday and I kept reading until I devoured the all three books in two days. Lucinda starts out as a very dark and damaged individual and as the series progresses she grows and changes and becomes a person that she was always meant to be. This is a well written series. The depth of the writing is touching and moves your emotions. The concepts of pain, loss, betrayal and accepting who you truly are are beautifully woven into a story. There are some pretty big twists that I did not expect. Overall, I'm very impressed and I would recommend it!
Do you love a heroine that that does not view herself as one? Like a gal that sticks up for the underdog? Slow burn romance? A brother willing to do anything to save his sister? A sister that loves her brother but won't take his crap? Love of your life who is knows you will live? A friend that sticks by you not because you saved her but because you need her and don't realize it? A doucebag of a fae king ? Will meet Lucinda ( Lucy ) , Finn, Ivy Maddox, Neva and King Zephyr. I love Lucy's inner voice too! Learn about why inner voice is so dark. A few twist , laughs, a betrayal that I did not see coming and then her famous cliff hangers is what this book has in store for you.
I usually pick up a book with fae and think it's going to be one of two things. They better be really dark and evil and make sure their deals are worded just so they can get what they want or they better be disney tinkerbell level. This one was a bit of both. Yeah Lucinda is willing to do whatever she's got to do, especially if she's paid for it. But she also sticks up for the people who can't stick up for themselves. A guardian fae perhaps is the right word without being tied to one thing cept LA. Finn I thought was too soft. He works well off Lucinda but just too soft for me to fall in love with right away.
When the prodigal “daughter” returns: once a guard to the king who promised to treat her as a daughter, Lucy now must face her fears and doubts in the past - as well as her own bad reputation in order to kill the King. She was living mostly peacefully in LA even though she was a Dark Fae when she gets pulled back to kill the king who turned her into a killing machine and then banished her. Now fighting with memories of the past and trying to help a Light Fae save his younger sister she has to address how much she has changed in the last several years.
At last, a female main character who doesn't give a sh*t and looks out for herself. At least, that's mostly true. Lucinda is a dark fae assassin who was banished from the fae world and truly doesn't care about anyone else, except maybe her assistant Neva, a brownie elf who is also amazing. I love Lucy's emotional growth throughout the book, but also how she doesn't change the base of who she is just because the people she meets don't always agree with her tactics. And oh, Finn. I cannot wait to see more of him in book 2. Gimme more!
Really enjoyed this first installment in a new series, and (shock/horror) while it ends on a cliffhanger it doesnt detract from the overall great storyline. Lucy is a feisty alpha heir who, through no fault of her own, gets called up to school a year earlier than she expected. The four princes are her escorts and while she finds herself drawn to them she wont allow their hatred and prejudices to impact on her life. Throw in betrayal, a fated mate, injuries and battles and you have one hell of a good story
A solid start to a new fantasy series with a strong main character. I really admired Lucinda’s fearlessness and sense of morality that had developed in spite of the abuse and grinning she’d endured as a child. She was someone I was able to root for as she strove to punish the man who’d taken such horrible advantage of her. The side characters were interesting and I adored Neva, though I wish they’d all felt a little more fleshed out. The balance of action, emotional growth, and sexual tension was great, and now I need book two because of that cliffhanger ending! 3.75/5 stars
Dark Fae Cursed is the first book I’ve read by Heather Renee and I absolutely loved it! Lucy has been exiled from Fae Islands for the last three years and has been taking jobs neutralizing supernaturals in Los Angeles that need to be taken care of. Lucy needs these jobs to feed the darkness in her. She is also fierce, sassy and vulnerable and likes to pretend she doesn’t care or need anyone else but that is put to the test with her attraction to Finn. Dark Fae Cursed was a great start to this series and I can’t wait till the next book comes out!
I love Lucinda!! She can be a bit arrogant when it comes to her mad skills, but she’s m a dark Fae and I loved it! For me, it all worked well and I enjoyed her attitude. She is a fighter, and I enjoyed the fighting scenes. The world building was great too!! I’d you enjoyed reading Fae and don’t mind a strong female character, then consider picking this book.
Vanessa Moyen did a fabulous job with the audiobook! I truly enjoyed it. Vanessa brought Lucinda’s character to life for me. I would recommend this book to mature readers.
