The Punishment Pit #2

Securing it All

Rate this book
Punishing his wife for her mistakes was the right choice.
Having his best friend handle it definitely wasn’t.

Choosing dominance should be easy.
He did it for years, and there’s too much on the line to fail now.
But Markus has been torn apart by betrayal,
twisted up and confused by all the lies.

His and hers. A matching set.

But leaving Brianna at The Punishment Pit didn’t help.

Lukus has always been the Master’s Master.
Permanent bachelor and hardcore dom,
yet seeing Brianna’s submission has him wanting more.
But she’s forbidden fruit, his best friend’s wife,
and a good man would help them fix this mess.

Everything is a gamble. A game of pain and pleasure.
One that might be too dangerous with all of their futures are at risk.

Warning: Securing it All is book two in the binge-worthy Punishment Pit series. This book has naughty BDSM punishments, angsty emotion, second chance romance, and old friendships put to the test. Can you handle it?

I definitely enjoyed this more than the first book, mainly because Brianna wasn't quite as much of an idiot (that might be in part to her POV not being used that much.) However I am still carrying two issues from book #1. Both are spoilers, so I'm probably going to have to hide parts that would give plot points away, but I'll try my best to convey my feelings on both of them. Before I get to them I need to praise the author's prose, her writing flows smoothly and I found myself "sinking" into the story and being totally absorbed by it. Her characters are believable and have real depth to them, I'm looking forward to getting to really know Markus in future books.

Lukas and Tiffany are still great characters, Brianna did behave better in this book, though Markus still has room for improvement. For a man who'd only just been found not guilty of stepping over the consent line Lukas (along with Markus) seemed to forget this and made choices that, to my mind, were neither wise nor SSC. Both men realised how stupid their decision was and apologised for it. However given it was another mistake on top of one made only 24 hours earlier, clearly these Dom's don't learn their lessons too well, perhaps they need the spanking?

#1 - I do get why Brianna made her original, off-page mistake . That's not to say I agree with what she did, but I understand the why of it. However it's the fact that Jake had abused and raped her repeatedly in the past that still doesn't make that aspect of the storyline work for me. Why would she ever have wanted to speak to or see the guy again? I do know that there may be more to be revealed about Jake, but I'm not sure it will clear up this specific issue.

#2 - In the last book there was definitely an act of sexual assault. However because their body responded with pleasure to the act, it doesn't seem to have been acknowledged, or treated, as such. Markus and Lukas have been so focused on their punishment and retribution, that they seem to have pushed that fact aside as an inconvenient/forgotten truth. There is a lot of murk surrounding the assault, and the murk becomes the focus rather than the act.

Because I've had a break between book #1 and book #2 I could go with the flow and enjoy this story, but I know if I'd read this immediately after #1 I would perhaps struggle to believe that Brianna would not have been more affected by ALL the events that happen to her over a 48 hour time period. It's a strange dichotomy because great writing made me believe in Brianna and her feelings as I was reading, however if I cogitate on what has actually happened then her calm acceptance isn't realistic. The story, the book, the emotions I feel whilst reading it tell me one thing, my cold logical head tells me another.

I do now feel much more invested in the series may at some point continue reading it. If I do, I need Markus to show me how/why he is worth the suffering Brianna went through and I hope Lukas proves to be the great dominant and guy that he so far appears to be.

Security it all is the follow up to Wanting it all. Markus and Brianna start off the story in a continuation of their broken marriage. As the two of them finally communicate and work towards repairing their relationship. Whilst their kinky life is taking off, the story shifts its focus over to Tiffany and Lukus.

Tiffany is Brianna's best friend. Lukus is Markus' best friend. Tiffany's experience watching Brianna's abuse from her previous boyfriend totally scares her away from BDSM. This is not a bad thing, unless she's interested in Lukus who owns a BDSM club.

The BDSM in this story is okay. Unlike the first book, this one delves a little too much in to psychological problems which is not a turn on for me. Not really interested in those getting into BDSM with problems and presenting it as BDSM will fix it. Does it happen? Possibly, but few and far between.

From a character perspective, this one should have worked great. Tiffany is the one who had a good head on her shoulders. Lukus is the well adjusted, sensitive yet sadistically delightful dominant. As the cover is peeled back for these two, they start coming apart. The chemistry between the two isn't as fiery as anticipated which made it not as enjoyable. On the plus side, the open questions in the first book are tied up and answered. The ending feels a bit rushed too. Overall, it was still an okay read.

Securing It All is book 2 in The Punishment Pit series by Livia Grant. This continues right where Wanting It All left off. Brianna and Markus's story continues with quite the emotional and sizzling wallop.
This story continues with how Brianna will get her marriage back thru BDSM, while Markus is dealing with revelations and lines crossed... Their friend, Master Lukus, was brought in to deal the "Punishment" to Brianna and his attraction causes friction between him and Markus. During this time, Master Lukus who is the owner of The Punishment Pit, meets Brianna's BFF Tiffany and they have this instant connection. So will Master Lukus be able to fix his friends' marriage BDSM style and help Tiffany realize she is a sub? Will Brianna get her husband to forgive her?
This is an awesome 2nd installment to a new series and it has drama, passion, angst, heat, feels, secrets, twists, chemistry, kink, attraction, and love. I can't wait to read what's next for the cast of characters here.

My Rating: 4.5 stars ********

This is the continuation of Livia Grant’s Punishment Pit series. I was reluctant to read this after reading book one, but I wanted to see if things improved with the characters.
Lukus is still punishing Brianna for her infidelity to Markus, even though he has all the facts. (Which he should have had, seeing as he bugged her purse) Now, her best friend Tiffany enters the picture, and while Lukas is enamored of her, he still manages to tie her up and gag her without her consent, then leaves her alone.
Markus decides to man up after 24 hours, leaving Lukus to pursue Tiffany. (Tbc in book 3]

WOW! Markus and Brianna's finale! It was intense and downright jaw dropping. Can this marriage survive the lies and deception? The couple is full of mistakes and regret but I am cheering for them to conquer this roadblock.
And what is happening in the wings with Lukus and Tiffany? There is passion and need but also fear of the unknown for both of them. I can't wait to hear more of their story.
And what about Derek and Rachel who are married and in a full time D/s relationship? Will we be privy their lives and what is to come?
I am impatiently waiting for Having It All.

Seriously wonderful BDSM story

This has the conclusion to the first book in the series with a really fine HEA for that story line and it also brings together Lukas and Tiffany as well. I really liked how the story line from Wanting It All gets resolved and I loved the steamy scenes and the punishment scenes as well.

In which supposedly experienced doms make rookie mistakes -- twice & Beating a pregnant woman is just so groovy!

Short Version: This is the second entry in a six-part series featuring the denizens of the Punishment Pit, one of those exclusive BDSM clubs popular in this genre. Please note that they are all re-releases; there is some sharing, which is not to all tastes; the MC are not together for much of the story; the BDSM acts are at times non-consensual, even though the doms are supposed to be well-known in the scene; the quadruple points of view are sometimes jarring; and this is not a stand-alone: it picks up where Wanting It All left off and itself ends in a cliffhanger.

I confess that I don't understand Ms. Grant's endgame here -- which I realize is an odd thing to say about a kink book. Certainly, it fulfills all the requirements of its genre: there are plenty of well-described erotic scenes and, yes, I get that much of this is fantasy and that characters need not be perfect or even admirable to enjoy a story. Nonetheless, given that it's set in the contemporary US in what's depicted as a well-respected kink club, and that the author has bothered to craft a fairly complex backstory for her MC, I do expect the plot to unfold in a logical, cause-and-effect manner and for characters to abide by certain basic given circumstances (such as, you know, that rape is bad). The fact that neither happens here means that I spent the entire book shaking my head at what were at best ludicrous and at worse brutal behaviors on the part of the H's and, thus, couldn't enjoy this. If you think you might, please read the many four- and five-star reviews it's already gotten.

Long Version: My central problem -- among others -- is that the four H's in this series are supposed to be experienced Doms (one owns the club) and yet they behave like complete newbies. Ms. Grant seems to want us to respect them, but that's impossible given the careless, even dangerous ways they treat their subs. Ultimately, I spent much of this trying to decide who had the least believable storyline. Was it:

1) Brianna: Twice a victim of rape, she returned to her rapist/former abuser for the BDSM "fix" she's unable to get from her husband in the last book; here she . Fans of second-chance romance might enjoy this; I, however, kept wondering why no one brought up the fact that she was actually raped approximately 24 hours before the events here unfold; why she evinces no emotional or physical effects; and why the doms didn't worry about traumatizing her. I guess she heals quickly and that rape is, you know, unimportant? However, if either is the case, then why does the author bother to make the rapist the series' resident villain if his crimes have no effect on his victims?

2) Markus: A supposedly strong "dom" who blames his wife for withholding information when he does the same; refuses to talk to her; leaves her with strangers to be punished; and doesn't mention to said strangers that she's a survivor of domestic abuse and has some triggers because, I don't know, he hopes she'll end up in need of serious psychiatric help? On top of all this, he ignores the fact that his wife was blackmailed and raped, and . If you can't trust a man to be a good dom -- to rein in his temper, etc. -- how on earth could you trust him in other areas of romantic life? One caveat: I do appreciate that Ms. Grant doesn't demonize his ex, as these generic books are wont to do.

3) Lukus: The owner of said BDSM club who, despite being recently tried for assault, decides that it might be fun to make a second court appearance when he restrains and gags Tiffany without her consent. I'll also add that he's so clueless that he doesn't realize that it's wrong to leave a sub tied up without any supervision -- not once, but twice. Given that that's like BDSM 101, I question any depiction of BDSM that frequently confuses "basic safety procedures" with "too soft."

But the winner of the "Who Behaves in the Stupidest, Most Dangerous Fashion While Ostensibly Engaging In What They Think Is BDSM" prize goes to:

4) Rachel & Derek:

Rachel was already there. Like the good little submissive she was, she was already naked and properly positioned, bent over the padded spanking bench with her arms and legs spread to the corners of the device, leaving her ass and the back of her legs completely vulnerable to her punishers.

What's the problem, you say? Well, you see, Rachel is three months pregnant! And before anyone says, "but Dr. James said it was safe." A) Oh, you mean one of the doctors responsible for our current "maternal mortality rate: 17.4 deaths per 100,000 births in 2018?" B) Derek was going to cane her severely without asking him because, you see, he's done "research." And C) He hits her 36 times with a strap. While I certainly don't mean to imply that I blame women who have miscarriages, why on earth would any responsible adult take a chance they don't have to? It was impossible to have any respect for a couple who would risk the health -- even if it's a small risk, you can never know for sure what might trigger a miscarriage -- of a mother and baby. Seriously, Derek was just going to start whaling on her because, you see, the punishment is the absolutely most important thing: health and safety be damned. Side Note: No ARCie commented on this, but I'm used to these kinds of omissions from ARC readers; that's why I started writing my own reviews. (I'll also add that the perfectly charming Derek refers to another woman as a "hot piece of ass.")

Another Short Version: Because beating a pregnant woman is a hard limit for me, I'm out!

1 star. The lack of consequences for the potentially serious physical and psychological harm these "doms" inflict was disturbing. As Tiffany, the only character with a modicum of common sense, notes: "Just because things turned out okay doesn’t excuse what you did." Further, the fact that they're all supposed to be experienced doms means that this book made zero sense to me. I don't recommend it.

Redemption and coming together is the name of the game here, and—man—does this book deliver. Recognizing the mistakes one has made is hard enough, but then facing the person you’ve wronged and asking for their help and forgiveness is oh-so-much-tougher. Add a friend to the mix to help facilitate everything and you have a volatile mix that is gut-wrenching at times, but so ever-lovin’ hot and sexy at others. Def put this on your must-read list.

Super-Hot continuation of this Unpredictable Story!!

Brianna is fighting for her marriage. Pushed beyond all which is reasonable, she will not give in to the pressure to “dissolve” their marriage. She did mess up, but her husband who actually is quite in the background leaves her “punishment” to his best friend.

The characters and story-line are fabulous. One you pick it up, you will read until the final page. Secondary characters are becoming key – I hope we get more of them in the future stories!!

This author is one of the best at writing BDSM in the Romance industry. It is always authentic and has a touch of realism that I feel is missing in many other books. It is because of this author that I even discovered a lot of my favorite authors and, also, the amazing Black Light (BL) Series. However, I am conflicted with this series as it has a different feel to it than others that she has written. That is both good and bad, in my opinion.

It is a little unsettling for me to have the chapters told in so many different character's voices. This story was a mash-up of telling about life for Derek and Rachel, Marcus and Brianna, and Tiffany and Lukas. I found myself wanting to just concentrate on a single couple instead of interacting in many different ways. Even though this could be likened to the many scenes in BL, it is harder for me to differentiate because those stories are told by different authors and have a break between the scenes so to speak. In this one, just as I am finally going all in and getting to the nitty-gritty with Marcus and Brianna, it switched to Lukas and Tiffany starting to get to know each other over Pasta. It just did not flow for me.

I, also, struggled with the idea that there didn't seem to be much discussion or resolution for Marcus and Brianna. There was a lot to unpack thereafter the 24+ hours that Brianna had suffered for her "actions." In my opinion, Marcus was not innocent in this either considering, regardless of whether they were in a D/s relationship, they were, in fact, in a relationship that still should have had open communication. I wanted more of a resolution about Jake and why she still felt the need to settle or be blackmailed in a situation with someone that hurt her. Again, seemed totally against the lifestyle. I get that she craved something that was unfulfilled but why did she go back to the man who had almost killed her and then was the reason that she was in the punishment pit in the first place.

This book would have worked better for me if each character had their time in the spotlight instead of breaking it up. Again, that is just my opinion and seeing that I am not a writer, I am not equipped to tell a writer what to do. However, I am a reader, and I can say what works and doesn't work.

IT is because of this author and her exceptional skill at writing and creating a scene that is both titillating and uncomfortable that I am rounding up and giving this author 4 stars. Even though I found myself struggling, I was invested enough to want to see the outcome for these characters. Again, this is a testament to her skill, because not many others could have pulled me back into the story. I think that there is more to come and hopefully, some of the things that bother me will smooth out in the upcoming books.

Brianna and Markus are on the road to healing. Brianna has put her life in danger and it almost cost Brianna her marriage. She needed to be submissive but didn't bring up to Markus because he was so soft-hearted. With Brianna willing to put herself in harms way it brings out the Dom that has long been buried in Markus.

Brianna's best friend, Tiffany finds herself going down the rabbit hole. She had read novels of submissives being spanked and serving their master but can she put her fears aside and dive in? Lukus tries really hard to ignore his feelings for Tiffany. He doesn't know if he can be with her but as their relationship grows they both discover things about themselves they didn't know where there.

Grant brings us on a journey different from other erotica authors in the industry. Not only do we get to revisit Brianna and Markus but we are also getting into a new relationship. I loved that she allowed us to see what happens with Brianna and Markus rather than leaving us hanging in Wanting It All. The emotions are intense and sometimes you'll want to scream at Lukus but the story as whole is well written and brings the reader in. This one you'll have to read in one session.

In bk two I guess this is supposed to be the resolution to Markus and Brianna’s marital problems.
I’m just having a lot of trouble connecting to this couple.
Their issues are deep and complicated.
Any monogamous relationship,D/s or otherwise infidelity is an extremely serious issue.
No one gets over it with a day of punishment.
It’s a rebuilding of trust and commitment.
Of open and real dialogue and conversation.
And it is not resolved in a matter of a day.
Their way of resolving a very important problem, which would be a deal breaker in a lot of marriages
was so unrealistic for me.
Doms and subs are people just like everyone else and I don’t think realistically that’s the way they would solve such a devastating crisis.
I did like the chemistry between Lukas and Tiffany.
Their banter is charged and hot.
Also funny and flirty.
Looking forward to the continuation of their story.

The story picks up where we were left off and as Brianna is still reeling with her punishment, Master Lukus shows up at Markus and Brianna's house to make him understand and see the deep emotions his wife feels for him. They come with a devious plan for the evening. At the same time her friend Tiffany comes to her rescue and is enthralled by Lukus, the man and the Dom. Can the two lovers come to term with what happened and start communicating their needs? Can Tiffany let her walls down and let her submissive side come out and play? So many questions as their story continues to entertain you. These amazing characters makes this story a page turner and I can't wait to see what's next for these friends. I vo,unteeres to review this arc.

Intense is my first Impression of this book and it is not just Marcus and Brianna who evoke the emotion.  Rachel is so sweet and was only trying to help but paid a hefty price even if Derek felt awful about it.  The dynamic between Lukus and Tiffany is instantaneous and fascinating to watch.  Not only are they sparking off of each other, it has freed Luke’s from his attraction to Brianna and is  answering his need for a different relationship.  Then there is Brianna and Marcus, thank goodness for Luke’s bringing Marcus to his senses and thereby not only bringing them back together, but freeing them to be honest with each other.  This is a fantastic series and I am so looking forward to reading the next book.

Lukus gets to Markus's house to lay into him. Markus is a mess and still wants Brianna despite everything that happened. As Lukus is leaving, Tiffany, Brianna's best friend arrives to find her, and Lukus likes what he sees in her. Tiffany follows Lukus in hopes that she'll find Brianna. She is in so much trouble. Lukus finally lets Tiffany see Brianna. They reconnect and lets her know what's happened. Lukus and Markus have a plan for Brianna that she knows nothing about and Lukus is leary to follow through, whether or not she wants to Tiffany is all wound up in this. Their plan almost backfires. The will continue into a 3rd book which I cannot wait to read. You need to read this 2nd installment. Love the series.

This, The Punishment Pit installment gives us a lot to think about. There are so many doubts, mistakes and making amends to be made it could be confusing, but it's not. It's clear to us reading what everyone should do, but each character has their history and must learn to deal with the cards they've been given. I am loving how much Lukus has grown and the choices he's making, I hope his new enlightened attitude lasts. One thing that could have been done for all involved was to remember that BDSM only works if all involved remember to communicate. I enjoyed this second book and looking forward to Having It All, book 3 to see how Tiffany and Lukus evolve, if they get to.
I am rooting for them.

This book is so amazing. I loved it when it first came out. I read it so many times, the kindle pages were worn out. *hehe* And I loved it this time. The first book, Wanting it All, is so full of angst and left the reader hanging - like getting edged..... This book really does help resolve the significant storyline between Markus and Brianna and does it magnificently. This story, like the first was intense, and sexy, and melt-your-panties-good! I adored, craved Lukus in the first book. He was struggling with things on several levels. But in this story, we got to see him with Tiffany. While he still is the Master of Masters, he was also sweet and loving. I love all sides of him. *drool* I know what’s coming next. But I still cannot wait for the next book. THIS SERIES IS SOOOOO GOOD!!!

This story was amazing! You get four different perspectives throughout the story. The depth of these characters is indescribable! Lukus is determined to help Markus and Brianna move forward. In the process he meets Tiffany. Sparks fly! I love that Lukus is willing to really look inward and ask himself some hard questions. Markus is frustrating because he has made some mistakes with his past and with his present. I do love seeing his growth throughout the story! Brianna accepting a side of herself throughout the story is like watching a butterfly come out of their cocoon.

When it gets steamy, man does it get steamy! A great continuation of the Punishment Pit Series!

Here we go into the second chapter of the series. I really liked this one, and now I am completely sucked in, and cannot wait for the next book. Finding your way in a relationship is difficult and betrayal makes it even worse. This book let's us see that you can find your way back. Now, I was surprised that Lukas and Tiffany came together, and loved how, even though Lukas was so angry with both Brianna and Markus he could see what they had, and should have. Then Tiffany jumped in with both feet. Thank you, Livia for another great story.

Brianna and Markus, I'm on the fence about this couple still. We know what Brianna did wrong but was Markus justified in his actions? And his actions DEFINITELY hasn't gotten better in this book. Is this marriage worth saving?

Lukas and Tiffany, oh my my my!!!! These two meet and it's like two bulls colliding! Lukas is changing, he's not the same man he once was. And it looks to be that Tiffany wants to get out from the pages of her books and explore life after all.

I can't wait for the next book. I'm truly hoping my feelings are changed about Markus, but I'm not hopeful.

I'm still not convinced that I like Markus. He doesn't really come off all that well in this book either, but there are more installations to come, so maybe he can be redeemed some. We'll have to see.

I like Brianna more than I did in the first book, and I see some real growth from her. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with her.

Lukus really has shown how good a man he is. There's one point I wish he had stepped in more, but mostly I think he did a lot.

We see a little more Tiffany, and I like her, and look forward to seeing more about her.

3 ½ Stars! Book two in the Punishment Pit series. Novella length serial ending on a cliffhanger. Told in multiple POV. It starts where book one Wanting it All leaves off. I was glad Brianna & Markus had their eyes opened to what each other’s needs are. I liked how Lukas wants to take things slow with Tiffany, and I am looking forward to reading more about their relationship in the future installments.

This books focus on two couples Brianna and Markus who are putting their relationship back on track. And Lucus and Tiffany who are just beginning their relationship journey. This is the second in the Passion series and like the first book this one is full of action and emotion. I was drawn in to these characters and really felt invested in the outcome.

This is a great book continuing the journey of brianna and Markus. This one also starts the journey of Tiffany (Brianna's best friend) and Lukus. If your looking for a quick and easy read then this is not for you. Livia Grant goes deep into the psychies of her characters. I can not wait for what she has in store next for these wonderful characters

Great continuation from Book 1, Wanting it All! Markus and Brianna continue to find out more about themselves and each other's feelings, and Lukus, well, he certainly helped heat things up! It's hot and even more intriguing, and I love seeing the different dynamics between couples and characters too.

I liked this second installment a lot. We got some brain engaged in the men and the motivation became apparent which changed the whole issue. Definitely a 10 on steam even with more if it developing characters and world building. Looking forward to seeing the next installment.

Hmmmm

Well let me just say that I LOVED seeing Bri and her husband start to rebuild their relationship. I’m really excited to see them start fresh and being open and honest with each other. And to see how their trust is rebuilt. I hope we get more of them in the next book!
I also love their friends(except for one at the moment)

Spoiler

Ok, I’m usually a fan when other characters are part of story and get their own story. However, I’m not really feeling Lukus and Tiffany’s connection? Attraction? I’m glad Lukus is moving on but because it’s literally a few hours after he felt that connection with Bri and then be feeling her friend is weird. Like I don’t feel that connection. I feel like they are just sort of pushed together. Wish the author had built up a little more their attraction.

Excellent series

I gave the first book 4 stars because of cheating ,but it was resolved in this book and earned the extra star.I still find the punishments harsh, but it is all consented to,so it fits the plot and is ok.Brienne and Markus' story is continued ( and mostly resolved ) in this book.Brienne' s friend Tiffany is introduced in this book and Lukus is smitten, but confused. He is massively hard- core and Tiffany doesn't recognize she is submissive.Lukus and Tiffany are a delight together and is the main reason this gets 5 stars. He actually wants to go slow and get to know her in a non- sexual way. That is totally not the norm for the Master's Master.I can't wait to see their story unfold in the next book.

The saga continues

The first two books so far are supposed to be about Markus and Brianna but it seemed to have more of Lukas. He has figured out what the main problem is between Markus and Brianna and he tries to fix it. Tiffany is the best friend who tries to save Brianna from her punishment but things backfire for her. For the final night of her punishment, Brianna is blindfolded so she can't see what is going to happen. Things go further than what she thought they would and she has a meltdown before she can be rescued. I'm curious to see what the next book is going to be about.
