If there’s any one thing Pierre and Logan have in common, it’s their ability to invite snap judgements based on shallow views of who they are.
Logan is the privileged only daughter of a respected family whose legacy runs long and deep.
Pierre is the moody, orphaned son of big screen royalty who couldn’t possibly live up to the prestige of his pedigree.
Or maybe not.
Perhaps they’re just two people trying to navigate the pressures of a world hellbent on telling them what they should be, and eschewing the limits of other people’s expectations.
Maybe what they need most is somebody who can see beyond the shallow first impressions – just one person they can allow to see behind the scenes of who they are.
It’s only right that I start my 2024 reading with a CCJ book ❤️
“Love doesn’t ask you to suffer for it. Love doesn’t require your misery. Love desires your wholeness. Love doesn’t see you hurting and begging to be seen and decide that’s an acceptable state. If your love and attention require that I fall in line to live a life I barely want to wake up to… I don’t want anything to do with that.”
I loved loved this story!!!! Pierre and Logan were everything.
I love Christina C Jones and was so excite to read a book about someone in the film industry, and the beginning of this book actually started off so strong! I loved how they met and hooked up and then realized the heroine was actually going to be working for the hero. My problem was, though, that the middle of this book dragged too much and I thought the story as just too long for what was actually needed. I also am not a fan of other woman drama where the hero is oblivious to the problems the other woman is causing, and that definitely happened in here. I really liked the connection between the two characters and their romance, I just had a problem with the plot.
Reading about Pierre and Logan was fascinating to me in this story. Pierre and Logan's romance was a sweet one that was just getting started. I adore how they were able to communicate with one another and work through their individual issues. By no means was their love story conventional, but it was genuine and different! Wonderful subjects like escaping expectations and family traditions. Living life on your terms and, of course, sobriety-related themes, as Pierre is an alcoholic in recovery. The characters felt authentic and had excellent chemistry between them. I would suggest everyone to read this book.
I really liked this book, if you’ve read and liked Reel by Kennedy Ryan this has very similar vibes.
This story is about Logan & Pierre, Logan is the daughter of very successful, well known lawyers and grey up knowing she would have to become a lawyer too and carry on the family legacy. However she comes to realise being a lawyer is not what she enjoys , it drains her and she values her mental health over family pressures, so starts her own business helping people get started in their careers, handling anything they need handled. (I cant remember what she calls it but its basically a high level assistant)
Pierre grew up the son of a successful film maker and wanted to be just like his dad, unfortunately that meant he followed his father into the dark side of Hollywood fame and became an alcoholic. After his father died Pierre got sober and has now been sober for 5 years.
Fast forward to Logan and Pierre meeting one night, they end up having a 1 night stand. Pierre is in the midst of writing and making a TV show so his Aunt hires him an assistant who turns out to be…Logan.
I liked the characters, they felt real and layered with great chemistry. I would recommend this book to everyone.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because they unfortunately spent most of the book thinking about each other while dating other people. I would have preferred they dated each other but they were sleeping together but saying they both didn’t want anything serious which I understood because Logan has just got out of a long term relationship and also doesn’t want people to know shes slept with a client but I just wish there were more scenes of them flirting building the tension. It felt like they were either in work mode, strictly professional or having sex LOL can we get some in between please?!
But still a great read nonetheless, great topics like breaking out of family legacies and expectations. Living life for yourself and of course topics of sobriety as Pierre is a recovering alcoholic.
3.5 I Loved Logan and Pierre. They were so refreshing and beautifully imperfect. Minor details that I noticed were that the characters related plentiful to each other, without the added family parallels which felt kinda too meant-to-be “right” to me. Also, I would have liked to see Pierre’s conversation with his sponsor and wouldn’t mind an epilogue happening a few years later. I get that there’s never a real end to a story and your imagination fills the rest, but it would have been nice to see how their dynamic changed. With that said, I thoroughly enjoyed the povs of the main characters and the story in general as well as the side characters (well most of them).
This started so strong. I was vibing with the romance of rich girl Logan and rich boy Pierre. Set in Vegas, Pierre’s parents are big names in Hollywood and he is trying his hand at writing a tv show. Logan’s parents are very well known attorneys but she’s ditched the family industry and pursuing her own career. Their meet cure was something else. But anyway, I was having me a good time! And then it seemed to be dragging a bit with some conflicts and then bam 💥 SPOILER ALERT *** accidental pregnancy. Goddamnit. Spoiled my mood.
I will never get enough of this book! Pierre and Logan are the perfect opposites attract and the opening scene of how they met will always be one of my faves! I loved how the story Pierre was writing paralleled his life. Logan’s growth of standing on her own was beautiful to see. So many familiar faces in this book and I’m so glad to see the world-building continued in this book. I’ve reread this book so many times it will always be a 5-star and recommend!
*audiobook* the dynamic duo did a great job on this story. Loved how the two met and eventually ended up working together. I think the author did a good job and explained the film industry really well. This was a good read..
I mean BRAVO👏🏾👏🏾 I absolutely loved Pierre and Logan's love story. Their instant chemistry, but hesitancy might be frustrating to some, but felt authentic to me. They are both dealing with transitions in life and professionally. Logan embarks on her own business choosing to forego the family legacy, while Pierre is finally stepping into his family legacy. Both desiring to stand firmly in their own gifts. Logan really blossoms throughout the book. She finds courage to stand up to her off putting parents and she stands on it, happily embracing the life she has created for herself behind the scenes. Pierre is also blossoming...slowly coming out of his shell, definitely not without struggles. However, seeing this gifted man was flawed added so much depth to this story. This story was beautifully written and I would've loved a little more of them behind the scenes..interacting on set. More times where their chemistry was displayed vs. mentioned. Still a book I would HIGHLY recommend. The original story line and black excellence not to mention fine as$ Pierre had me at hello.
CCJ is one of my favorite authors and this book is another amazing read! This has a setup I love- the hero and the heroine meet have a one night stand and end up working together. Logan and Pierre have amazing chemistry and these two have a hard time fighting their feelings for each other.
Logan and Pierre are both on their own journeys of solidifying their careers. They were able to connect over this and they were absolutely perfect together. I also loved the conversation of black excellence with Logan feeling the pressure of living up to her family's legacy and expectations.
A few things I didn't love: -The conflict of them not being able together was a little annoying. I understood why the couldn't be but they were perfect for each other so that was frustrating. -The extra drama wasn't my favorite, but it made sense with Pierre's past. -A trope was thrown in at the end that I don't like. However, it didn't ruin the book for me which just shows how much I love CCJ's writing. -The story could've been shorter near the end I felt that it dragged.
I cannot recommend this one and CCJ enough. She writes great stories with relatable characters, the dialogue is fun, and of course steamy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Initial reaction: "Behind the Scenes" worked for me in so many ways, as a contemporary romance, as a story about handling the pressure associated with career and family, and one where it's well done with showcasing very real characters handling that and the between. I loved watching and hearing Logan and Pierre's voices. New favorite for me.
Full review: I'm writing about this book a little bit after reading it, but so far I'm 3/3 for picking up Christina C. Jones's books and loving them, though for different reasons. This was the first that I picked up in a while, and I'm not sure how I missed it. This book hits home with me. Recovering perfectionist, pursuing a career that nearly ran me down to the ground but was able to find something that was more me and all that jazz. So I identified with Logan in this book A LOT, despite my situation being different, but let's take this from the top.
This is a contemporary Black romance that deals so well with the characters and situations that I could see this playing out as a movie in my head, particularly with the audiobook. Wesleigh Siobhan and Emmanuel Ingram do such a great job of portraying Logan and Pierre respectively. Smooth, emotionally resonant, and impactful the whole way. Starting the story, you have Logan moving away from a toxic relationship during a fateful night. Ends up with a car crash that has her running into Pierre, a guy who isn't happy about the damage done to his own fancy car, but the two agree to exchange details and not involve the cops. The two have a chemistry that's palpable and they hit it off (literally and figuratively) for one night, before parting ways and thinking they'd never see each other again.
That clearly doesn't happen as Pierre realizes later that the woman he was intimate with in what he thought was a fling becomes his new manager. Pierre is the son of a successful movie producer trying to carve a path of his own after his father's tragic death. The pressure for him to do well and the anxiety he carries with that weight and his past is narrated so well through the story. I definitely felt for him. Logan has a bit of the opposite situation in that she's moving away from the legacy that her parents had with their law firm and carving out her own successful business ventures. For Logan, it's the source of big tensions with her family, but exacerbated as she also exits a high profile relationship that her parents championed but did not work for her at all. Watching both characters navigate their situations, their relationships were so well-developed that I rooted for them to work throughout despite the misunderstandings and barriers that stood in their way. It felt realistic to me, even working through the micro and macro conflicts the story had to offer. Many of you know that typically workplace romances aren't my cuppa, but I always say that if I can follow a story well enough and it compels me to read on, then you have me.
For "Behind the Scenes" I couldn't put it down. I wanted to see how things turned out for them, rooted for them to get together, be able to heal and move forward. The story wraps up in such a satisfying way that I thought "Yeah, new favorite for me, hands down. No contest." It was the right read at the right time, and I could see myself re-reading/re-listening to this, no question. I definitely need to pick up and review more of Jones's work, but if you're looking for a couple with piping hot chemistry, love scenes, while also tackling some very real family and career dynamics, this works really well.
It pains me that I didn't enjoy Behind the Scenes more, as I am a huge CCJ fan and really looked forward to this one.
I really could not connect to the main character, Logan. I found her incredibly uptight and just too perfect. I'm also a fairly type A personality, especially in the work context, so I thought I'd relate more to Logan. But I just found her to be a bit boring, and fairly judgmental - particularly around other women who weren't as professional or uptight as her. I wasn't at all moved by or invested in the love story, either. It lacked the banter and spice I've come to expect and love from CCJ. Lastly, I found the book to suffer from from overwriting; every single interaction and feeling was over-described, leaving no room for interpretation or nuance. And it lengthened the story unnecessarily imo.
I listened to the audbiobook for this, and I found the narration style a little grating - it's not clear to me why the narrator who voiced Logan had to awkwardly deepen her voice for every male character, and why all of those male characters seemed to have a New York accent? Odd. I also found many of the secondary characters to lack any sort of nuance, they all read as pretty flat to me. The ending was also just not my fave, tbh:
This one wasn't bad per se, just not for me. I have a ton of CCJ backlist stuff I'm still really excited to get to, though!
I’ve been in my Christina C. Jones era real bad!!!
I loved Pierre & Logan baby they had me @ Chapter one. The character development in this was top tier. The ending did not do it for me at all which is why it didn’t get 5 stars because wtf was that Miss girl ??! 🙄
So most of the time it is absolutely the man in these books that carry the story and make me love them. In this one, it was 100 percent Logan, the leading lady that carried this story for me. I have a serious girl crush. For me this book was all about Logan finding her way, leading the way, being the Boss Lady, in charge of all things woman she was. Bae bae! This girl could give you a tongue lashing so quick, you wouldn't even know you had been whipped until minutes later. 💕💕💕 Now P3 was not bad at all, all by himself. I absolutely loved his swag and his vulnerability equally. This was a whole winner for me.
This was kind of a coming of age story, but these two people were already of age. So maybe it was a coming into your own story. I loved it! Happy reading!!
I’m in between this being a 3.5-4⭐️. Loved the beginning of this book but then chapter 25 came around and you mean to tell me yall still not together? Lol then the pregnancy…. Yeah!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Christina C Jones never disappoints. Like, never. Logan and Pierre are goals. They were each interesting, complex, complete people who improved the life of the other. It was a treat to see how they worked through their major issues together and individually, and functioned as a unit even before they realized what they meant to each other. There was a lot of noise in their lives but their commitment to being upfront and willingness to work for what they wanted was almost as sexy as their super hot love scenes! Just kidding, nothing is that sexy.
This is an absolute winner of a book and I am high key upset that we'll never get to see One Day Sober, because that show sounds super entertaining. I don't have much patience for television shows, but I suspect that if I could watch something that Logan got her hands on, I would actually make it through more than one episode.
Buy this book, yesterday. You will not regret it. Behind the Scenes is a beautiful escape from a world that is basically a literal dumpster fire at this point, but it would still be an awesome read even if everything wasn't the actual worst.
I am in love with this story! Logan & Pierre’s love story filled me up from top to bottom. One night stand turned into a surprise workplace affair. Chefs kiss. This story was deep. The conversations between the main characters. The intense attraction and the lust turned into love was everything. I fell hard for Pierre. I love a man broken from past mistakes, but doing everything in his power to make the changes. He was so hot 🥵
I really loved everything about the story. I know I’m being vague, but I just hate spoiling any little detail. I wonder what Christina C Jones book I’ll read next.
Christina is simply that chick! There’s no if ands or buts about it. Logan and Pierre were everything I expected and more. From their very first encounter I was drawn in. I loved Logan’s confidence! She was a real boss and owned every room she was in. I also loved how she didn’t back down nor was she intimidated by Sienna and her foolishness. Pierre aka P3 was the definition of tragedy to triumph! I was really able to connect with his character and I felt like his story was really well developed from the tragedy of his parents and how he had to separate from his LA friends to truly heal. l have no doubt that he was able to truly love Logan because of the love he saw displayed among his parents. Their love story wasn’t traditional by any means but it was organic and refreshing!
3.25⭐️ This started off really strong…literally started with the events of an alleged one night stand then next thing you know they’ll actually be working together on a tv show that the MMC is producing🤦🏽♀️😳 Awkward right? Normally it would be but their chemistry was off the charts from the get go so I definitely felt like they were a perfect match for each other. I feel like something was missing from this story though. It started off with a bang, but just fell flat towards the middle and just stayed there until the end. Decent read that I don’t regret. Definitely gives Reel by KR vibes.
A Perfectly Imperfect Man Loving A Wonderful Woman
This gets a ‘highly recommend’ from me. I love Pierre so much, I love that the author wrote him imperfect but he was not completely dependent on those around him, he was an active participant in his recovery/healing—love to see it. I enjoyed how much of a boss babe Logan was, she was so professional no matter what and I loved to see her stand up for herself without dropping her crown. The chemistry was COMING off the pages honey! I was over here cheesing like he was talking to me lmao! Also love how supportive Pierre’s family was and how much they supported Logan and Pierre. She held her secret a bit long but its cool, it’s dramatic and we need that. Pierre was sexy as hell, that is all.
Other notes:
Pierre and those grills 🥵 Sienna can STILL catch these hands—til’ this day I would watch the TV series. Logan’s parents were a bit raggedy.
The first book that I read by this Author and I am glad; I picked it up. Okay so this book was great at showing the readers how you can work hard to plan out the best life you can do. Even though life does not work out as planned\ which we all should know that. I love how in the first chapter of this book the hit the floor running! The author did a great job at making you feel the feelings that they were in all moments of the book. This book was a good read. I feel like Logan and Pierrce could have created a great love story but the matters of the show they were producing and the matter at hand with her father just took away from he love that was between the two. Anthony and the other lady in the book had just brief moments in their live that i thought was going to be the down fall of the book and love story but it was not. Great book.
I really wanted to like this book, and it had a lot of potential, but ultimately it tending to drag a lot towards the middle and the end. I felt like the pacing of this book was a little messy and the overall structure was all over the place. I did like the strength of the characters. I felt like they were all so unique and distinct, and I did really enjoy the romance. It was fun to read something a lot more steamy than I’m used to. I think I would like to read more books by the author in the future, I was just a little disappointed by this one.
I absolutely loved this couple together. Their love story was really special. It felt so realistic. Pierre was bae goals. I could imagine him being the ultimate social media crush. Logan was so strong and powerful. I loved her character. This was a wonderful love story.
Logan needs a more worthy title for what she accomplishes for her clients. Pierre could not have created his super successful documentary/series without Logan's machinations!
I especially loved the way Logan put jealous trouble-maker, Sienna, in her place.
4.5⭐️I really enjoyed this story. I loved how fleshed out the characters were. I understood all of their decision making in respect with how they have operated throughout. I believed the tension and feelings festering between the two and was routing for nothing to get in the way. Another component that kept my attention was the film making process. I was fully invested in the series they were creating to be a success 🥰 well done CCJ
Christina C. Jones doesn’t miss. Loved this book. Logan and Pierre had instant chemistry. They were both dealing obstacles. Logan’s relationship with her parents was a big issue in her life. And Pierre was still grieving the death of his parents while being on his sobriety journey. They found the love they weren’t looking for.
Behind the Scenes by Christina C. Jones is about executive concierge Logan Byers and writer/director Pierre Perry III. Logan is a type A personality, she’s gets things done. She’s been hired by Nubia Perry’s to help Pierre who’s in the process of creating his first script/tv show. Pierre is something special with his moody self. He comes from this famous family yet at this point in his life he’s low key but he has an undeniable swagger about him. I love that he wears his heart on his sleeve, he’s never afraid to tell Logan that’s he’s feeling her. Logan and Pierre have natural chemistry, it’s palpable. Their intimate moments are HOT 🥵 the moody man is slangin! CCJ did a wonderful job of painting what behind the scenes of producing a show might look like. I love how nicely the story flowed and how we got excerpts from the script. The emphasis on the personal journeys of Logan and Pierre really contributed to the story and their relationship with each other. Logan is a rock for Pierre, yet one could say he’s the same for her. They understand each other so well, very much a partnership both professionally and romantically. The discussion of Black excellence and legacy is impactful! Why does success have to be at the expense of happiness? I can’t forget to mention all the cameos, every character that we met felt important to the story. This is a great story, I’d highly recommend!
