Samantha Heatherington always loved Christmas at Snowflake B&B. Her cooking job over the festive season was always her favourite time of year. Until, thriller writer Reuben Richards buys the beautiful inn she always thought would one day be hers.
Grumpy and too-good-looking-for-his-own-good, Reuben has no experience running a B&B, let alone cooking and spends most of his time in his study hiding from the guests. Thankfully Sam isn't interested in love right now, let alone the one man who might lead to her losing the one place that has ever felt like home. It looks like it's going to be up to Sam to mix up a little bit of Christmas magic!
Can Sam save Snowflake B&B in time for Christmas and maybe even find love under the mistletoe?
Well this is a book that certainly has hidden depths.
There is rather a lot of character development packed between these pages, and I loved seeing the dynamic between Samantha and Reuben.
Both of them are rather complex but its the insight into Sam's mind, and her thought processes throughout that captured my attention. In addition her ability to cook delicious sounding food, she talks a very rapid pace, almost continuously and I loved trying to keep up with her.
She had a tendency to regularly through in friendly insults which were rather amusing given the amount of times her feet ended up in her mouth during the first meeting with Reuben.
Reuben is an author with writers block who has taken over Snowflake B&B, despite not really wanting to interact with people, or having the first thing about how to run a B&B. He's been let down in love in the past and is unsure what to do with the dynamo of Sam, who just showed up to help for that weekend, by arrangement of the previous owners.
Then there are the guests, two couples, including Stefan who it is rather hard to like at first, but then shows glimpses of another side to him that I rather liked. And Harry was just lovely.
As its looking like they will be snowed in Sam comes up with various activities for them to do in and around the B&B, including ice-skating and decorating for Christmas. The way the living room was decorated by Flo and Stefan was just really amusing.
I was so absorbed by this story that I read it in two sittings, and it was such a pleasure to read. Another incredibly enjoyable book from Kellie Hailes.
Thank you to Orion Dash and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I thoroughly enjoyed the start of this novel, and the main characters were engaging if a bit irritating! However, I decided to stop reading at Chapter 17 when it became obvious that Sam had some pretty serious anxiety and trust problems. I don't have any problems with that but I did get a little weary of reading over and over about her background and why she was so troubled. - this is a novel not real life, and I want to be entertained when I read a Christmas romance, not worry about whether one of the characters will get appropriate long-term help from a professional source.
Reuben wasn't all he was cracked up to be either and I dropped out, before Sam was magically cured and Reuben became a caring, thoughtful adult. Real life isn't like that.
Not rating. The writing was good (apart from the needless repetition of Sam's history) and the setting beautiful. I just have problems reading about mental health concerns that are really far too serious to be the focus of a romance novel.
It left me feeling rather uncomfortable. Not rating.

Snowed In At Snowflake B&B by Kellie Hailes is such a sweet little festive read, I read it in just two sittings and would reccomend it to anyone looking for a festive romance. The story touches on some sensitive issues, like domestic abuse and trauma. There is a lot of character development, the reader really gets to know both of the main characters and grow with them on their journey.
Suffering from writers block, thriller writer Reuben has just bought the idyllic Snowflake B&B on a whim, following a particularly difficult break up. Without the faintest idea on how to run a B&B, grumpy, anti social Reuben is completely out of his depth. Considering throwing in the towel he is surprised when out of the blue the powerhouse that is Sam, lands on his doorstep.
Larger than life Sam worked for the previous owners of Snowflake B&B, her second home, the B&B her refuge growing up. With a passion for cooking and a deep love for the B&B itself, the previous owners have hired Sam to help Reuben and save Snowflake B&B from ruin. The arrival of Sam is just in time as Snowflake B&B and all it's guests find themselves snowed in.
Another Christmas in July book down. And another disappointment. I’m not having the greatest runs on my Christmas in July reads this year. But I am saving the best two for last so we’ll see how it goes then. In this novella, we’re following a girl named Sam who cooks for the Snowflake Bed and Breakfast in a small town. But when new ownership comes in Sam fears losing the one place that has ever felt like home to her. Can she deal with the grumpy new boss? Can she deal with the attraction simmering between the two of them?
The main problem I have with this book is that it’s trying to do so many things. We have Sam with a pretty rough past, we have Reuben who is struggling with a recent bout of writers block that has been brought on by his divorce being finalized. And the book spends a lot of time discussing abuse while also trying to show character development and a development in how they relate to each other. It was just a lot for a less than 200 page novella. I think it could have done with some more time for these characters to really warm up to each other and fall in love. Everything just happens too fast and it’s pretty hard to suspend my disbelief.
I did enjoy the older couple staying at the B&B and I enjoyed the husband giving advice to Reuben. I also ended up enjoying Flo who is also staying at the B&B with her boyfriend, but for reasons I wasn’t expecting. There ended up being more depth in this side character than what our two main characters had in my opinion.
Overall, it just fell flat for me. There were some cute Christmas moments which kept me reading and I loved seeing everyone snowed in and seeing how they dealt with their cabin fever.
Reuben has just bought the Snowflake B&B and Sam arrives there to help him with his frist few guests. She used to work at the Manor Houes already so she knows the ropes – moreover, she loves the place, it was her safe haven when she needed help. And Reuben might be a successful thriller writer (who may, or may not, be struggling from a writer’s block at the moment) but he has no idea about running a B&B and would rather hide from his guests than entertain them. But now he might be stuck with their company for a bit longer than expected, as they are all snowed in. Can he and Sam make the weekend a success? Will they find a way to work together?
The beginning of this book was absolutely brilliant, it had me chuckling and thinking, yes, finally a great strong female leading character. Sadly, then, it started to drift to a far away land, the of the repeating and whiny one. I had a feeling that I am reading over and over again about Sam’s love to Manor house, how it saved her life, how hard her childhood has been and then her sudden explosion of anger and jumping to conclusions, well, I just got lost. Don’t get me wrong, pretty please, I assume I know what the author has tried to achieve here, touching upon one of the very difficult issues, but I had a feeling that I don’t have to be reminded on every single page about Sam’s past and her anxieties. Once in a while, in a right moment and matching circumstance would do, thank you.
The characters were altogether okay and I appreciate how the author tried to diversify them by creating such a colourful group of different personalities. While there was not enough depth to them for my liking, and they were overdone and their actions were sometimes inadequately to their age, they were easy to like.
I did like the idea of this book and wouldn’t have anything against being snowed in in such a cosy B&B to be honest. The setting was stunning and the winter wonderland truly brought to life by the author. It was already a book with a festive feeling to it, what with decorating competition, a lot of snow, ice skating and secret Santa.

An enjoyable festive read. Could you take my booking now? A stunning setting, set in a beautiful manor house, in a winter wonderland at Christmas. A perfect festive escape.
Sam and Reuben are the hosts at Snowflake B&B. Sam loves the Manor house, her safe haven, who envisaged owning it. Reuben, an author, the new owner has no experience of owning a B&B, and wants to hide from his guests and write his new book. Neither is looking for love so they can't get hurt but they both want to make the B&B a success.
Reuben and Sam are just such likeable characters. I loved the mixture of guests, differing ages and personalities coming together for Christmas and being stranded. Can the weekend be a success despite being snowed in? Can Reuben and Sam find a way to work together? A heartwarming, magical read.
Thank you to Netgalley and Orion Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review
This tells the story of Sam who goes to help out at the Snowflake B&B to help out the new owner Reuben. The B&B is very special to her as she spent a lot of time there as a child with the previous owners as she had a difficult childhood. The new owner is a successful thriller writer and struggles with both running the B&B and writing his new book. When Sam arrives to help out she along with the two bookings staying get snowed in and Sam goes all out to make their time special and impress Reuben so she can work there on a more permanent basis.
A few misunderstandings and complications happen along the way before the snow melts and will the B&B be a success or will it have to close?
Thanks to Net Galley for the advance copy of this book.
Please can you take my booking now ready for next year??? Such a delightful read, it gives a warm feeling throughout.
The selection of guests that arrive are just wonderful and we get to know them all a little better as we read on. Sam and Reuben have the typical romantic feelings and ups and downs in this festive book but with the added fun of him being an author with a case of writers block, and you are rooting for them both.
You could not ask for more from a Christmas book, it includes snow, ice skating, secret Santa, a festive feast of drinks and treats and also a decorating competition - I just loved it. Kellie Hailes was a new author to me and I very much look forward to reading more from her in the future.
This is a sweet read featuring a cranky writer/B&B owner and a neighborhood cook. I genuinely liked Reuben, Sam, and the B&B guests they are unexpectedly stranded with. It was entertaining to see them peel back layers and begin to develop feelings and a potential relationship.
I feel like this was heavy on character development, but light on the relationship building between the main characters. We saw the interactions between them, sparks begin, but maybe not enough that I really believed love was blooming.
Overall, this was a mainly feel good read that I think tried a little too hard to have a self help message.
I wanted to read a Christmas book and found this one for free on Amazon kindle so downloaded it.
It was a really lovely cosy Christmas read.
It's about Sam and she works as a cook at Snowflake B&B. it has just been taken over by a new owner who has no idea how to run a B&B. And when 4 guests arrive to stay for a few days and they all get snowed in, It's Sam that helps save the day.
I really loved Sam and the B&B owner, Reuban. Their relationship together was just lovely.
This was just a great cosy read and perfect for what I needed.
A heartwarming, uplifting and festive read that kept me entertained on a grey and cold afternoon. Great character development, lovely setting, a well developed plot that made me smile. I loved all Kellie Hailes' books and this one was no exception. Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Found this story a little difficult to get into at first but after the first couple of chapters really got involved with it and loved the idea of not only falling for one another but making friends with their guests hopefully for many years to come. It brings back memories of my own experiences and the many friends made over years of great holidays .
Absolutely loved this book strangers snowed in and becoming friends, new beginnings for Reuben and Sam a feel good festive book. I would love a follow up you can imagine the 3 couples featured all have different lives and it would be great to read all about them and going forward on Reuben and Sam and their next chapter in their lives.
My review will be live on donnasbookblog on 9th November 2020 - publication day!
I loved this book!!
I thought that the setting was lovely and the author did an excellent job at bringing the B&B and the characters to life, I was willing the characters to overcome their feelings to ensure that they had a romance that was full of hope and and dreams and I loved the ending.
The is the first book that I have read by Kellie and it won't be my last - this was well written and the details give you a feeling of being there with them.
It is 5 stars from me for this one - I really did love it!
Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Another brilliant book from Kellie. Couldn’t put it down, read in less than 24 hours.
Reuben Richards buys the beautiful Snowflake bed and breakfast that Sam thought would one day be hers. Sam used to spend Christmas’s there cooking over the festive season with the previous owner. Can her and Reuben get on and make the bed and breakfast work or will Reuben end up running the bed and breakfast into the ground?
Another fantastic read from Kellie ! Her characters are believable and welcoming and the story keeps you wanting more. I couldn’t put this book down and can’t wait to continue to read more of Kellie’s books
Kellie Hailes never disappoints. This is the 8th book of Ms Hailes I've read and she just gets better and better. This is such a gorgeous feel good read. You'll be rooting for Sam and Reuben from the get-go. Do yourself a fave and buy this for the hols, like, NOW!
I loved the story of Sam and Reuben. Two damaged people who come together and deal with their difficult pasts. The backdrop of the inn and its guests make for a good storyline. A winter love story that shows love can overcome a painful past.
The decision to overcome is a uniting force that starts from one often silent voice that says 'I won't quit'. This book.represents that phenomenon of survival that is very real.
But once I got into the book I couldn’t put it down. It also reminds us, especially women in abusive relationships that there is help . Seek it out because your glass is only half full and true love awaits.
