Paul Peters was born in Bavaria and enjoyed a lot of lake swimming in his childhood. At an early age, he developed a persistent allergy to school. Paul loved to play soccer, even so he never got into the youth team of his favorite club: Bayern Munich.
Later, as a young man, he traveled to South America and made a living working as a bartender. He sailed to Panama and climbed the Andes mountains.
Back in Europe, he studied modern languages and communication science. Paul worked as a greenkeeper for PGA tournaments and guided bicycle tours in France and Italy. At university, he met his future wife who eventually became the mother of their two children.
After a career as a TV editor, Paul started to work for one season as a cruise manager for European river cruises. This one season turned into ten eventful and entertaining seasons... Eventually, some years ago, he scheduled his own disembarkation and started a new career as a lecturer.
Nowadays, Paul lives close to Munich with his family. When he is not writing, he is lecturing, cycling or hiking.
Seeing a picture of a family on the cover of this hilarious little book made me expect simply to be diverted a little from my own sufferings during the pandemics, but what I got instead was so much more. Despite my initial expectations I was drawn in by a much more charming and endearing story. Refreshingly, the constant character (Dad) throughout the book is no man child, bumbling from one self-imposed obstacle to another. What we get instead is a loving and patient father navigating commodity shortages, German bureaucracy, and the mood swings of a family forced to eat too many meals together at home--and of course the pure evil of some truly loathsome birds. The antics of a tissue-throwing, thesis-writing, practical joker of a son and a hair-styling, music-blaring, slightly mutinous daughter made for a hilarious wellspring of ideas for any sitcom writer to mine. After having read this book I couldn't help but look at my own experiences during the pandemic--both the joys and the daily insults life tends to throw at us--and come out a much happier person. For that I owe Mr Peters a significant debt of gratitude. Now if he would just finish the next installment. . .
I think a lot of folks will recognize their own family life in there. Its a book that just keeps on giving. You are always excited to turn the page and see what awaits you there.
I absolutely loved this book. I had seen it advertised and thought I would like to flip through it. However, from the first page until the last, I couldn't stop reading it. Thank you so much for sharing your family with the rest of us. UPDATE: I posted my review based upon an ebook version. I have now received a hard copy and I love it more. The paper quality is great and the ink used is bright. It's a well-written and produced book. I'm glad to have it on my book shelf among my other favorite and treasured books. Thank you, again, Mr. Peters.
Funniest book I read in the longest time. We are all going through the pandemic together. I have been through some of the same situations as the author, it was nice to see others going through it and placing humor on the matter. I can totally relate to the leafblower situations :). Can 't wait for the next book. I highly recommend reading this book.
Cute short and sweet musings of a German dad and his family living their life in Germany during the first hundred days of COVID-19. Although some of the things were different from my life in the USA during this time, some was similar as it seems there is not much difference between the USA and Germany during the current time period. I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway. Recommended.
After enduring a full year of pandemic lockdown, this book gave an unforgettable overview of lockdown challenges. You will laugh so hard on every page it will bring into perspective all the burdens we faced. If you need to light up your life with laughter, this book will bring you non-stop joy!
This book was interesting in that it brought up a lot of the feelings going through "lock down" with Covid brought up in my own life. I didn't find the book funny, which I think it was meant to be. I think that not being from England, or even Europe left a lot of the jokes flat for me as I didn't understand all of the references. Others may enjoy this book more than I did.
This is such a cute and funny book! We all have been there, in lockdown! This dad just shared his experiences in a unique way and many times had made me laughing out loud!
Enjoyed this! I love epistolary writing so this was a treat. Also, it was cool having insight on how Covid was like in other countries. So many similarities and differences!
