╰┈➤ And I thought that mangas were the ONLY ones with crazy stories. 😭 God help me.
This was my first ever manhwa that I've read!! 😄 And honestly? I think it was pretty darn good. Like, just TRUST me. It's pretty darn good that it EARNED those five stars. 😂

If The Sound of Music got merged with Violet Evergarden into a morelighthearted tale, then this would be the time traveling masterpiece that Orka and Kitty&Spice have created.
Although, there was only a bit of 'Maria and the Trapp kids' hatred towards her' as a vibe for the beginning portion of the manhwa, it was WAY LESS annoying to read than Violet's stupid personality was.

I seem to be late to the party, since this manhwa was previously already out a LONG time ago, but just recently got formatted into an actual book!! 😁
The artwork was BEAUTIFUL to say the least, and I couldn't stop pouring over each page trying to see all of the detail and hidden elements that the artist created within it. I also loved how "new found family" was the overall theme, it made all of the other cringy romcom manhwas step aside for this really new and intricately developed story. Which I'm also quite surprised about how well everything ended up playing out in the end.
Stuff obviously didn't all get solved, that's what the rest of the series is for (after all 😌), but I was hooked on this story the minute I opened the cover of it late last night. I seriously couldn't put this thing down until I had finished reading it (all in one sitting, too)! And for someone like me, who has never read a manhwa before (and hasn't even read a manga for quite awhile too), this was a GREAT way for me to get out of my reading slump and feel more motivated to be productive with my reading, writing reviews, and just updating stuff on Goodreads in general. 😩 So, I thank this manhwa DEEPLY for that. 🙏🏼
(and if you're curious as to what put me into SUCH a review and reading slump, then you'll be happy to know that finishing Voltron [Netflix's Version] for the FIFTH time has put me into an extremelyemotional spot, and has therefore made me not want to do anything else in the world except to just sit and think about it *hmf* 😤)

I found it so funny how the 1800s German vibe became the setting and aesthetic for the book, since the creators were ACTUALLY able to pull it all off while also SIMULTANEOUSLY getting across a solid plot line. Speaking of the plot line... DANG, THAT WAS CRAZY. Everything was SO satisfying and perfectly written out to read, I absorbed ALL OF IT and felt Shuri's pain and burden. It's just so amazing how this could be SATISFYING to read about and NOT annoying. 😭 God bless for that.
And to all the folks complaining about the amount of "politics" being discussed in this book: y'all should just politely note that the creators actually PUT time and effort into such a plot like this one. Many stories have such shriveled up points and meanings, that don't even get revealed until the VERY end of a series, so I heavily praise the team of this book for putting in time and effort into such a vengeful and gratifying tale. 🤍
-ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ-
The characters were all cute and adorable to read about!! I found the constant sibling fights between them to be SO relatable and I'm very glad to the creators for sticking that all in. I also LOVED that one scene of Jeremy comparing the two twins to little baby birds being fed worms. HAHA. 😂 Love it all.
(But really? Having the emperors sure name be "BADEN"? 😂 God, you guys. GOD. 🤣)
I absolutely ADORED the two heads of the household staff (Roberto the butler and Gwen the head maid). They were so freaking pure and precious and I sincerely thank this manhwa team AGAIN for doing such a good job in writing them out and portraying them and everything. 🥹 People rarely recognize the household staff in these periodical stories, and this book really took the time to show just how much effort and loyalty the household staff usually are. AND SHURI'S NEED FOR THEIR LOYALTY AND HONESTY WAS PROOF ENOUGH FOR JUST THAT. 😆
And of course, it wouldn't be a manga, manhwa, OR manhua, without all of the people being CRAZYYYY pretty and perfect and "oh so beautiful" to look at. Yes, even the cruel child abusing aunt and uncle AND lying older brother of Shuri; whom all had NO right to look that darn gorgeous. ☠️😏 I may or may not have batted my eyelashes a few times at certain characters... May or may NOT have... 🤭
And okay, but that ONE general guy of the Neuschwanstein family?! Y'ALL. HE'S SO FINE LOOKING AND HOT. LIKE, WOW. MY EYES. Alberon gives me SUCH teddybear-cinnamon roll vibes... Just like my dear and poor baby CHAOL. 😩 (okay, stop me now before I start crying my eyeballs out)
Anyways. Enough talk about the hot and pretty characters and cinnamon roll-like guys.

Now let's MEET these characters, shan't we?! 😆
kk, HERE: ⬇
˚₊ ‧ ꒰ა Shuri Von Neuschwanstein ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
The stepmom of all the kids, and SUCH a freaking patient person with them.
˚₊ ‧ ꒰ა Jeremy Von Neuschwanstein ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
The eldest brother of the von Neuschwanstein family, and quite the arrogant bloke.
˚₊ ‧ ꒰ა Elias von Neuschwanstein ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
The second oldest brother of the von Neuschwanstein family, and pretty rude and obnoxious of a kid.
˚₊ ‧ ꒰ა Leon von Neuschwanstein ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
The twin brother of Rachel, and such a troublemaker...
˚₊ ‧ ꒰ა Rachel von Neuschwanstein ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
The twin sister of Leon, and just as equal a troublemaker as he is...
But just give these kids a chance and THEN you'll see the true reasoning for everything come out sooner or later. 😉

Did you know that this manhwa had previously/ALSO been titled as "The Fantasie of a Stepmother"?
Given the pretty boys and the name... I guess it may have "unknowingly" hinted at something that the creators had noooooo intention of it hinting towards... ☠️ Luckily they decided to change the name, or at least publish it under as something ELSE. Haha. 😬😳😵
-ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ-
The only problem I have with this story is it's romance. Many people talked about how they LOVED this book for not getting too much of an overpowered romance, but I felt the exact opposite. Why? Well because I had no clue where the book would be going and with what would happen between Shuri and the unnamed little lad. And he's not even that cute to begin with. 😵💫 Which is of COURSE so freaking annoying, because literally EVERYONE and their grandma in this book looked hot and beautiful except for him. So hopefully he gets a good upgrade in the sequel. 😐
And speaking of which... Apparently this story actually DOES get better throughout each of its installments, so that's something to be excited about and look forward to! 😄 I have already checked out the sequel to it, so I hope to get to it soon, but I don't know if I'm obsessed enough with this storyline to keep going with the whole series. It's definitely unique. It's definitely original. And it's definitely worth all the hype.
But I just don't know if it's for me. And personally speaking, I'm kind of missing all of my manga right now. 😭 So I might just go back to reading them instead. 🥲
HOWEVER, as of right NOW, this book was definitely a B I G success. 😁 And I would TOTALLY recommend this to ANYONE who wants to try out manhwa for the first time!! Thank you SO much to all of my buddies who read this and loved it, and to the library that had it sitting out there on their shelf just waiting for me to pick up and read. ⋆✴︎˚。⋆

Not perfect, but I’ll take it! MC h is sent back in time to when her husband died seven years prior, so she can correct the mistakes she didn’t realize she was making, as she was only 16 at the time when her husband passed.
I do NOT like the Crown Prince, but he’s antagonistic against the Cardinal, whom I ALSO don’t like, so I’ll give the CP a pass as long as he continues to stick up for her. But he’s the lesser of two evils, BARELY.
I’m not much for politics, but this isn’t too in-depth with them.
4, as soon as I flew through this I immediately picked up the second volume, stars.

It hurts to say this, but I think I'm going to sadly drop this one. 😭😭😭
I love Shuri, I love the family, I love the changes that are happening, but there is too much scheming and political things happening that it's hard for me to enjoy this story fully. I definitely know that's a "me problem" because I've had that same exact thing happen with other stories with too many politics. I start to feel super lost and confused as to what's happening, and I'm heartbroken that's what happened to me here.
I really feel I'm stopping too early in my reading and that if I don't keep going, I'm going to one day regret it. Sadly right now I feel hesitant to keep going when the politics and scheming seem to be only getting worse and more prevalent.
If politics are not an issue for you, I would highly recommend this story! The art is stunning, the storyline engaging, and the characters interesting. Plus, I LOVE how this family is coming together and truly wish that focus would shine more.
Even though the central hook of this book is pretty familiar.. A character travels back in time to 'correct ' past events. I'm thinking Tokyo Revengers here!?! This is provided here in a glossy ..beautifully drawn/colored edition. The central female character seems strong and wise beyond her years...and seems to have a lot to contend with..even in this first Volume. Loved it.

I'm so excited to have one of the most beautiful and well written manhwas I've ever read in print. The art is beautiful, and reading it again I am so excited to see little details I missed my first time through.
Okay, so… this premise had me instantly locked in. A 16-year-old girl named Shuli suddenly becoming a stepmother to four children?? That alone is enough drama to make me crack the spine—but it’s what the story does with that setup that kept me hooked.
Volume 1 covers chapters 1–19 of the manhwa, and let me just say: it goes there. We open with Johannes’s funeral (yep, again), and then suddenly we’re in her second life where she gets a chance to do it all over again. What I loved most is how the flashbacks and alternate timelines are used not just to show what happened before, but to highlight how Shuli is now learning, growing, and doing things differently. It’s so refreshing to watch a young woman become a political force, assert her independence, and start rewriting her story on her own terms.
Also… someone give Shuli a break! She did her best the first time around with what she knew. That grace and self-forgiveness theme hits, especially as we see her navigating grief, court politics, parenting, and survival—all at once.
This volume really sets the stage, and I’m fully invested in seeing how her second chance plays out. Shuli is that girl, and I’m rooting for her with everything I’ve got. Let’s go—I’m ready to read the rest.
Lets not talking about the art, the art is so fucking amazing.
Lets talking about the story. Shuri's story.
I will always feel sorry for Shuri's childhood. I just can't imagine how a little girl married to an old man just to fill head family's position until his eldest son to grow up. It's just so fuck up. Then, he die.... this old man. DIE. And then Shuri become a widow at age 16. YES. 16 YEARS OLD. A widow with 4 children from this fucking old man?!?!?! 😭😭😭😭😭 poor Shuri. I just can't imagine it.
I thought it was some normal rom com manga but holy shit the art and the layers the characters have like I am so impressed by the construction of every single character and their traits and qualities they are all so unique and the art is unreal I am absolutely going to read more from Orka just for the art it's mind blowing and it does justice to the characters in every single frame.
beautiful and impactful art, carefully established character dynamics that evolve, intense storytelling... not to mention the overall gloomy tragic atmosphere... perfectly done
god I love them, but most of all Shuri. Im not too fond of the second chance trope, cause just because they treat you well now doesn't negate the previous bad treatment. But I also understand that they are kids, and they react like kids. she's a kid too, her husband died when she was 16, SIXTEEN! Which means he married her when she was younger. he's the real villain here. Idk how everyone is talking about her seducing him and tricking him, when she's literally 16 and he's like 60. I suspect he only married her to look after the kids and the estate after he died, but HE COULDVE CHOSEN SOMEONE OLDER. And if he slept with her, ugh Johan im coming for you! Anyway I love Shuri, she's such an amazing character. strong, smart, beautiful. she's probably going to make the series amazing ✨️

Such a good twist compared to the typical webtoons I read. I consider this one to be top-tier in terms of plot, art and characterization. Shuri is a very lonely yet strong protagonist, and it’s very engaging to follow her efforts in being a step-mother and protecting her stepchildren and her household.

Storyline: 'The Iron Widow, the Spider Widow, male hunter, the Witch of Neuwanstein castle, the embarrassment of noble ladies'……. These were all the words used to describe the Marchioness, Suri Van Neuwanstein.
Despite receiving such criticism from the world, at the young of barely 16-Suri had to raise her ‘children’ alone, who were unrelated to her by blood and were old enough to be called her siblings.
And while she endured harassment and resentment from society and her the household- she survived to see her 'eldest son' Jeremy get married and become head of the family- finally, on the day of his wedding, she felt that all her hard work had tied all the loose ends together. But she had been terribly mistaken. After hearing the message requesting her to not attend the wedding, she got caught up in an accident and died while leaving the castle.
But when she opened her eyes, she woke up on the day of her husband’s funeral, seven years ago. I refuse to suffer any more. I won’t live as I had in the past a second time![x]
Oh man when I tell you I was crying at the end of this season....ugh so good. Will look out for the next season!
Loved this series when it first came out online! It was a bit of a new twist to the time-lapse or turn back time concept which I loved and it's more family focused rather than revenge focused
You can read The Fantasie of a Stepmother on Tapas app. The first 87 episodes are free every 3 hours and after that you have to pay “coins” to read the rest of the series. I believe one new episodes become free once every week?
I was surprised on how many people love this webcomic, I will admit it took me awhile to get into this series. Romance is NOT the focal point of the story. This webcomic focuses more on politics and mysterious writing. I’m not 100% into that, but I was curious to where the story would go since the theme is somewhat mysterious and the graphics are different (a little rough and a little dark).
Shuri became a wife at the age 14 and to a middle age man (I know gross, but it’s not that kind of story). Her husband dies when she’s 16 and she comes stepmother to 4 kids. It’s a reincarnation story so Shuri has a tragic death and all the kids hate her.
Shuri wakes up 7 years earlier (right after her husband dies) and she gets to fix her past mistakes.
The interesting point of this story is that, you don’t know a lot of things. You don’t know why the kids hate Shuri (besides that she is young as them), you don’t know how the husband treated her and you don’t know why she was willing to marry so young. You get glimpses here and there but as you read the story, more details are leaked.
I will admit, at times it’s hard to follow because the writer will jump into the previous life and explain what happened before Shuri died in her past life. Then you will flip the present and I had to figure out what timeline I was in because I didn’t know.
I got hooked on the mysterious element of the read because it was interesting to figure out all the whys. I wasn’t too keen on the politics because there is a lot of that and at times it seems like a filler. I usually skim those scenes because the drawings of the gross guys are just nasty.
Like I said, the romance is on the back-burner so it can be frustrating trying to pull crumbs that the author gives you. There might be one episode where a male will give Shuri attention and you are so desperate for the story you continue to read several more episode before the author goes back to the “romance” storyline.
The webcomic isn’t my favorite, but the author knows how to hook you in and make you read many episodes because you just want to find out. I’m not sure I am a fan of that writing style, but it does keep you hooked.
This story blew my mind. Shuri's story is one filled with miscommunication and misunderstandings. But above all else, there is so much love. She loved her children in her first and second life. At first, I didn't know what to think of her. For a moment I wondered what she did to the kids for them to despise her. Then the story progressed and I realized it was no one's fault.
Shuri was only 16 when she became a single mother of 4, a marchioness, and responsible for a big house and a great fortune. It was invetable that she would make mistakes at first. I don't know anyone who would have ddone such a good job as she did. And still, she met a sad ending, never knwing her children actually loved her. She never heard them call her "mom". It hurts.
However, she received a second chance. And now she had 7 years of experience in her head. She was able to do everything right from the beginning, and was able of focusing in her children this time around. This made everything different.
I loved this story. I didn't finish it because it has not been completed. I so want her to end up with Norra. Gods, he's gorgeous. I'm a little sad that he's not a kid anymore, but I'm happy to see the man he's become. I'd love for him to somehow remember what happened in his other life, so he would understand Shuri better.
The kids are amazing. So sweet. They get in trouble all the time. They are so full of life and charisma, how could I not love them? All of them are so different and well-developed. The occasional humor gives spice to the story.
This story is so rich. The characters are so well developed, the world-building is clear, even the side characters are colorful, the plot is intriguing and the love can be felt in each illustration. I honestly got bored with the Church shenanigans, I think it could be shorter, but oh well. I want to finish this story so hard. I hope it continues soon.
