Whether you are a seasoned cook or have no interest in creating your meals, this book seeks to improve the way you relate to food, your health, and cooking. Executive Chef, Jeremy Smith, at the Kripalu Center for Yoga Health says, "Reading Asha's story will inspire anyone to make changes in their lives and the success they will have with her recipes will convince them that it is possible! Each recipe is approachable, tasty, nutritious and easily reproduced at home by anyone wishing to make a positive change in their lives through the healing powers of food." The Blissful Mouthful Cookbook... Asha unflinchingly shares her real-life challenges of creating quick, healthy, and delicious meals for herself and her fussy-eater husband. And this with being a full-time, conscious entrepreneur. 10% tithed to Food Bank Asha’s mission is to empower people to age healthy and gracefully, and she does this through her coaching program, Manage Your Waist With Taste ™.
When I think of a typical cookbook, I think of a basic collection of recipes. The Blissful Mouthful Cookbook is much more. Asha Paul describes not only how to prepare healthy food, but how to incorporate nutrition as a key component in a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
Paul begins by describing how she changed her own eating habits. Through sharing her story, she inspires others to do the same. She goes on to provide a variety of tasty and approachable recipes that can help readers begin their own journey with nutritional food, including pastas, salads, soups, and vegetables.
I was particularly impressed with Paul's conversational and down-to-earth writing style. She comes across as a friendly neighbor truly interested in helping me personally improve my eating habits. She is eager to share her love of cooking with any and all who will listen. She never strives to impress, but to truly communicate with and encourage her readers.
She is also careful to make no assumptions about the reader's current cooking level. This book is great for both beginners and advanced cooks. The recipes are written in a basic way, being careful to break any necessary techniques down into easy steps. However, the recipes are also sophisticated and innovative, providing something new and fun for experienced cooks to try, as well.
This book is not a wholly exhaustive explanation of how to embark on an overall health and wellness journey. It does not discuss specific vitamins and minerals, "superfoods," the benefits of exercise, or other similar topics. Instead, it seems designed to give readers a starting point without overwhelming them in the process. The book provides readers with an easy jumping off point from which they can expand their horizons in whichever direction interests them most. In this way, the book serves as a foundational building block of a new healthy lifestyle, but does not try to provide a full blueprint.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. My family and I made several of the recipes highlighted in the book and are looking forward to making improved health and wellness a family goal for the new year.
This is nice addition to the vegeterian cookbooks with recipes that are simple enough for the beginner yet also nice for the experienced cook. It is limited in its recipes so if you are attempting to switch to a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle , this one book may not have enough variation for you. I was attracted to the book because it states that the author was trying to tempt her husband's picky palate. I thought that meant that he was carnivore who the was trying to convert to a more plant based diet .However that is not the case .He is a life long vegetarian so there were no real tips for me to convince my picky-eater of a carnivore husband. I did like many of the recipes for myself, though. Many of the recipes have a Hindu/ Indian feel to them. Most , if not all , of the ingredients and spices are easily attained in the United States. I intend to try several. I received the kindle version and I am not sure if it differs from the print edition but I was disappointed that there were no pictures of the finished meals . This is just a personal preference of mine that I love looking through cookbooks and browsing the recipes and photographs. As I stated, this is a nice addition to your cookbook shelf however I do not feel that it could withstand being your only source of vegeterian meals since I found it quite limited.
It's a good book in itself, but the length of it proved disappointing - almost like we were getting the teaser version of the much-bigger book it was supposed to be (at least based on the blurb). I wanted to see more about how food changes health rather than the in-passing mentions we get in this one. The recipes themselves felt a bit repetitive and a tad blah, to be honest - and my biggest peeve remains that everything seems to have nuts and/or nut butter in them. Not an issue per se, I agree, but this makes the recipes totally worthless to someone who's allergic to nuts or who cannot eat nuts for health reasons (as is my case with oestrogen dominance) It's a nice-enough book to pick up, but rein in your expectations as it barely goes beyond what the blurb tells you, really
There were some amazing recipes in this book especially to help with inflammation. I am starting on a vegetarian journey (still plexatarian) so always on the look out for user friendly books with recipes that I can adapt for my family but still meet my objectives.
The start of the book was very informative and set the scene which I really did appreciate.
I was given an advance copy by the publisher and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.
The Blissful Mouthful Cookbook by Asha Paul was a great colourful cook book and some of the recipes were lovely and so easy to create. They went down very well in my house. So thumbs up from my family x
The author provides seven tenets of the Blissful Mouthful Way along with healthy recipes. In the salads section, I cannot wait to try the roasted onion salad and warm chickpea salad in the soups section, I just bought the ingredients for pressure cooking lentils. The recipe for aromatic quinoa in the grains section sounds delicious. Isabel’s cabbage is a kicked-up version of traditional buttered cabbage. She also gives cooking tips and techniques to help cooks prepare the recipes in the book. If you like cooking new recipes, this would be a good book to try.
