Living in a lighthouse as a child led me early to a love of reading. Despite what you may have been told the life of a lighthouse keeper's son is not all Glamour and Parties. There's a lot of time when there really isn't much to do besides wonder if the fog horn has finally made you deaf or watch your dad pull fishing lures out of different parts of people's bodies. (You'd be amazed!)

Two of my favorite houses growing up!

description

I read. I read a lot. We had a 'reading caterpillar' around the room at my school where every time you read a book you put your name on your color paper and hung it up. The teacher had to give me two colors because it was looking more like a worm than a caterpillar. I devoured CS Lewis before moving on to Tolkien. Reading has continued to be a big part of my life. I've moved into Alternative Realities by guys like Stirling and my guilty pleasure is Zombie novels. I can't seem to get enough of them!

I like reading about the extremes people will go to to survive. The ones who can rise above the rest and keep their sense of right and wrong. When humanity crumbles around them these flawed heroes stand tall and try to make their way. They go from struggling to pay the phone bill to struggling to keep themselves and others alive. I like to see how this either hardens or breaks them. I think these stories speak at a very primal level. I enjoy the journey greatly as I get to tag along seeing how the survivors manage and how the experience forges them into something more than they were.

I look forward to sharing the journey with you all!

Sincerely,

R S Merritt

What a ride! Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this and for adding your thoughts and feedback. I know my life like everyone else's has been influenced heavily these last six months by the pandemic and related economic and other setbacks and restrictions. I'm thrilled there's finally a light at the end of that tunnel! To escape the real pandemic I dive into my head where an ancient plague has escaped bringing with it an ancient evil to our world.

Evil rules the night and men scurry like mice during the day to try and survive. The courage and resolve of the Russel siblings is heavily tested in this second book. A book where their fellow man, the infected and even mother nature all seem hell bent on their destruction. New heroes arise and the mighty are brought to their knees. Yue, LeBron and Drew continue to fight for themselves and one another as hard as they can. In this kind of craziness though will it be enough?

I hope you enjoy! Book 3 is in the works already!

better than the first

I liked the second book much better than the first. At least I wasn’t cheering for the zombies to eat the main characters. Sadly there are a lot of oblivious slow learners out there and this story tracks their hard lessons in survival. I’m just a cynical old fart, read the books. Enjoy.

Water-Logged!

What I liked about the book is to remember that ships in a zombie apocalypse can be a death trap. Held my breath to the end, hoping for relief from the sardine can the crew were barely staying alive in. If things couldn't get worse with all the ideas to save crew members and abandon ship, Murphy shows up....every time!

Finally!

Finally a fast paced, action packed book. I finished book one, but never picked up book two. I’m questioning my sanity now.
Anywho… Here’s my review, no spoilers.
There’s never a dull moment in this book. No downtime or lull in the pace. The main characters were separated but are now back together again so no more back and forth on who’s doing what. This series is one of my favorite zombie genre series. I say zombie ambiguously, you could put this in a plague type post apocalyptic category. It’s my favorite zombie series because Merritt has a knack for fast paced action without losing the storyline. The characters are still incredibly well developed and relatable. There are very inventive moments in this book that gave it seasoning. I can’t say too much without bringing spoilers into it, but it’s very very much worth the read. Merritt has me spoiled, so the last few slow paced book series I’ve read, their book #2’s will be on hold for a while.
It’s exciting, it’s gory, it has a splash of military, and while the scary isn’t on an Alexander Gordon Smith level, it’s still pretty scary at times.

Great zombie type book but different as they don't kill that easy. It's so different and I am on the 3rd book and can't wait to see what is going to happen next. The people on the way are very colorful and some very strange. It is a must read as it will keep your interest.

Definitely kept my interest but I cannot stand Yue. She acts like she’s so great but she seems like a bitch. And the way she was complaining about Jeff and her brother’s “coffee breath” while they’re fighting off surgers and crawlerz in a post apocalyptic world? What a bitch.

In Crawlerz 2, Merritt sends us a good follow up to what he started in 1. The arc of the story is interesting and entertaining and the characters keep the readers attention. Its a fun story overall. I'll keep reading to see what happens in 3.

On book 3 right now. So far I am completely committed to this series Not idea why these aren’t published and put on the top 10 list
I read A LOT and am suitably impressed.
Characters are realistic and have distinct personalities
There are a select group that the story is built around
( I hate it when there are so many characters that I have to go back to remember how they contribute)
Many authors do apocalyptic books but this has a whole new perspective, plot line and crisp clean characters that and build off of each other. I AM IMPRESSED 😊😊😊😊😊

Just... WOW!

This was non stop surgers and crawlerz and epic battles for literal life and limb! The battleground is everywhere. All they want is a safe haven and they'll fight to find it!
The characters are uniquely individual so that when one is lost to the "zombies" you really feel it. The gore is top notch and the surgers and crawlerz are brought alive with R S Merritt's descriptive genius! Don't miss this one!

Good read

I am enjoying this series. Yue, Drew and LeBron has an awesome bond. I also like how the author focuses on each of the siblings, as if one is just as important as the other.

Awesome series

I was in the Navy…why didn’t they just use high pressure hoses to wash the infected off of the flight deck into the water?

real nightmares

Pandemics are the new real live nightmares. Living through our version has opened my eyes to realized how much worse it could be. We’ll hang in there with our favorite characters, just in case.

Good book for Zombie lovers

Book was enjoyable. Different from basic slow moving Zombies. The deceit of humans played well in the book. I will read other books by this author

Honestly, those big ships +zombie like creatures scare the crap outta me.

It always seems like such a terrible idea with all those relatively small hallways and books and crannies and beneath the deck, horrible.

If it ever is a real life consideration, I'd rather take my changes literally anywhere else since I'd pretty much perish from pure anxiety otherwise lol, also fear of small spaces for prolonged periods of time.

Anyways, besides my ramblings this was good, I like the determination of our cast, the 3 against the world vibe.

Lots of carnage in this one compared to the first and at some points slightly unbelievable that the siblings persevered when others didn't.

Overall, the creatures were still terrifying, more so then your run of the mill shambler zombie and it was entertaining from start to finish.

Glad I continued the series. I love zombie books but they get a little old with the same ol' thing happening. However, I really enjoyed these first 2 books. Author should definitely have more ratings on Goodreads.

After reading the first book I was hooked, so I bought this #2 which continues the story right where one left off.

Surprisingly there were numerous typos on the first page and they continued all the way through. For a highly rated popular series this was a mystery. Obviously no proof reading or editing took place here. Most of the errors were dumb i.e. 'too' instead of 'to'.

Still worth reading bur jarring at times. I wish the author would fix them.

Exciting

This very exciting novel keeps me turning page after page to find out what Murphy’s Law has in store for our young survivors Yue, Drew and Lebron. Every time things start going well old Murphy rears his ugly head and throws all kinds of crap in their way. Fear not, they may be young but they are very resourceful.

Great book series to read!

This book series is addicting. The auther writes it very well. It is engaging and action packed. It has you feeling like you are a part of their story and you find yourself hoping and wishing they will catch a break for a bit and then WHAM something unfortunate happens and there goes the hope. I cannot wait to finish the whole series.

A different kind of zombie.

This story is a new idea of a zombie apocalypse. It's enjoyable to read. Although scary, what else would we expect! The author wasn't prejudiced about who is killed.
