The Real Crisis

Rate this book
History seems to be the story of man-made catastrophes, and these seem to occur regularly, repeatedly and unfailingly, always taking the world by shock and surprise, disproving all the predictions and promises of the pundits and experts, setting at naught the calculations of the intellect, defying logic and reason, and leaving human beings baffled and helpless. Between one crisis and the next lies what we call our normal life. In that so called normal life we give our time and energy to everything except serious inquiry and reflection on the purpose of human
existence in general and our life in particular. We never ask whether our present way of living itself is not the cause of the next global crisis. The question may never occur to us and, even if it does, we dare not face it.

This is precisely the challenge J. Krishnamurti throws at us - make us aware of a number of fundamental questions, some of which are given here as excerpts from his talks and writings of nearly five decades, covering the years from 1934 to 1985.

Jiddu Krishnamurti was born on 11 May 1895 in Madanapalle, a small town in south India. He and his brother were adopted in their youth by Dr Annie Besant, then president of the Theosophical Society. Dr Besant and others proclaimed that Krishnamurti was to be a world teacher whose coming the Theosophists had predicted. To prepare the world for this coming, a world-wide organization called the Order of the Star in the East was formed and the young Krishnamurti was made its head.

In 1929, however, Krishnamurti renounced the role that he was expected to play, dissolved the Order with its huge following, and returned all the money and property that had been donated for this work.

From then, for nearly sixty years until his death on 17 February 1986, he travelled throughout the world talking to large audiences and to individuals about the need for a radical change in humankind.

Krishnamurti is regarded globally as one of the greatest thinkers and religious teachers of all time. He did not expound any philosophy or religion, but rather talked of the things that concern all of us in our everyday lives, of the problems of living in modern society with its violence and corruption, of the individual's search for security and happiness, and the need for humankind to free itself from inner burdens of fear, anger, hurt, and sorrow. He explained with great precision the subtle workings of the human mind, and pointed to the need for bringing to our daily life a deeply meditative and spiritual quality.

Krishnamurti belonged to no religious organization, sect or country, nor did he subscribe to any school of political or ideological thought. On the contrary, he maintained that these are the very factors that divide human beings and bring about conflict and war. He reminded his listeners again and again that we are all human beings first and not Hindus, Muslims or Christians, that we are like the rest of humanity and are not different from one another. He asked that we tread lightly on this earth without destroying ourselves or the environment. He communicated to his listeners a deep sense of respect for nature. His teachings transcend belief systems, nationalistic sentiment and sectarianism. At the same time, they give new meaning and direction to humankind's search for truth. His teaching, besides being relevant to the modern age, is timeless and universal.

Krishnamurti spoke not as a guru but as a friend, and his talks and discussions are based not on tradition-based knowledge but on his own insights into the human mind and his vision of the sacred, so he always communicates a sense of freshness and directness although the essence of his message remained unchanged over the years. When he addressed large audiences, people felt that Krishnamurti was talking to each of them personally, addressing his or her particular problem. In his private interviews, he was a compassionate teacher, listening attentively to the man or woman who came to him in sorrow, and encouraging them to heal themselves through their own understanding. Religious scholars found that his words threw new light on traditional concepts. Krishnamurti took on the challenge of modern scientists and psychologists and went with them step by step, discussed their theories and sometimes enabled them to discern the limitations of those theories. Krishnamurti left a large body of literature in the form of public talks, writings, discussions with teachers and students, with scientists and religious figures, conversations with individuals, television and radio interviews, and letters. Many of these have been published as books, and audio and video recordings.

"The crisis is there. The crisis is not in the world, it is not the nuclear war, it is not the terrible divisions and the brutality that is going on. The crisis is in our consciousness, the crisis is what we are, what we have become." - Jiddu Krishnamurti.

The Real Crisis is barely forty pages long but it has the ability to leave behind a lasting effect. It is fascinating how well Jiddu Krishnamurti saw and understood people through lens that never blurred. His ability to speak about philosophy like that of a friend was one of the reasons why I felt so comfortable reading this work of excerpts. What he wrote back then in the 20th century still holds true. In fact, it often felt like he took a peep at how the future would paint itself down the line and wrote about significant matters. Humans have become extremely mechanical, falling into a monotonous routine of working and living a life that holds no meaning. He questions if our purpose ends at just that. We have pushed ourselves into a rat race not knowing how to leave this vicious cycle. Being a philosopher and a writer, he proclaimed that he did not belong to any one nation, religion or caste and focused on conversing with people from all over the world. His simplicity, to this day is well admired.

With just a few excerpts ranging between 1934 to 1985, he stresses on reviving and connecting with nature, to seek truth and truth alone, to live a fulfilling life other than the one society creates for us and to enjoy life in a simplest manner. It's not something that we don't already know but his words most definitely carry strength and motivation that we are trying to seek from the wrong places. Although this was my first taste of his writing, I'm nevertheless convinced it shall not be my last.

I'll just leave this here:

"Governments want efficient technicians, not human beings, because human beings become dangerous to governments – and to organized religions as well. That is why governments and religious organizations seek to control education." - Jiddu Krishnamurti.

~This little book makes you think. A lot! It'll make you question your perspective. It emphasizes on realising if we are worrying about the right things in life or not.
~ This is a bundle of some very important topics like relationships, nature, self growth, etc. We are so blinded by this glamorous world that we fail to see the real important stuff around us.
~ What are you doing with your life? Are you doing the things you want? Can you see beyond the materialistic world? Are you using your energy in the correct place? - these were a few questions that came to my mind while reading it and I was amazed how some 40 pages could rattle my brain.
~ The language was easy but the thoughts presented were complex. The real crisis is not in the world but inside ourselves. How we will solve these crisis solely depends on our conscience and way of thinking.

• Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895-1896) was a philosopher, speaker & writer. The Real Crisis, however, feels like breathing with his life vibrantly. In mere 40 pages, these short pieces written way back in 90s in different books, collections & at different points of history hold extreme relevance even today. In fact, these seem to be a reflection for current times.

• His belief in inward clarity & consciousness is so realistic. He doesn't hold anyone accountable for the universal crisis of life, value, needs, & chaos other than what goes within a person. "You are your own light." Another noteworthy thought that's reflected is that compassion should make space within a person after suffering. For, perhaps this is the significance of suffering, isn't it?

• The thoughts he nurtured about seeking truth & God, human degeneration are equally notable. He penned it clearly as to what the essence of this life is & how this essence is often neglected, how we lead ourselves elsewhere, without seeking the truth of ourselves that demands seeking.

• The relationship humans have with nature is neglected to the point that not only is nature ruined but how people associate with each other. The widening gap between us & nature, too, is a real crisis.

• Throughout, you get to read about so many aspects of life & crisis with such wonderful clarity that even if you seek more of his thoughts, you can't help but admire his brilliance assembled precisely.

• The Real Crisis doesn't deviate from the crisis that we fail to recognize, that we are at the centre of infact.

A good, short yet meaningful read.

J. Krishnamurti is one of the 20th century’s most influential teachers who revealed the workings of the human mind and came to the conclusion that it is the cause of all crises. He was a philosopher, teacher, and writer.

Written in easy English and based on ordinary human life experiences, Krishnamurti’s talks, writings, and dialogues bring a daringly original approach to the existential dilemmas that confront us. Through his unique explorations of the human condition, he makes us aware of several fundamental questions and their likely solutions, some of which are given in the Real Crisis as excerpts from his talks and writings of nearly five decades, covering the years from 1934 to 1985.

All the excerpts of his speeches given in the book are simply brilliant. There is so much to learn from every sentence. He was truly an immensely inspiring individual!

"When a man doesn't interfere, there is a great beauty of balance and harmony."
J. Krishnamurti, a 20th century renowned teacher and motivational speaker, shares his thoughts about the working of the human mind and what impact it makes on the nature and society around. A short work of 41 pages is enriched with the words of wisdom, human consciousness, nature and all the living beings together, as a whole. The search of what life is, happiness and compassion find its way through his writings. We are gifted with his words in the form of excerpts from his different talks and works in between the years 1934 to 1985.

I do not want to talk a lot about it here, but the work is worth giving a read, it will enable a human to question the inner self, the reason why we are alive and what is the importance of conserving the entire ecosystem in togetherness.

"Compassion comes only when you have understood the whole meaning of suffering, and no longer suffer. It is only the compassionate mind that can meditate and find that which is eternally sacred."
The words about compassion really made a great impact on me. I highly recommend you to read these thoughts.

// You are encased in your capabilities and gifts, and they are dangerous friends. //

A barely 40 pages read but will creates a huge effect on your thought system. Excerpts and lines from speeches of a great thinker, teacher and motivational speaker. Compiles speeches of over five decades.

His words hold power, it doesn't just passes with the line or sentence, it stay there in your head for you to ponder. Very few speakers have that grip over words to make readers think.

What was fascinating for me that the things said back then still hold true. The ideas made me think about things I never thought of. A great and important book, that deserves a read. A thought provoking book, definitely.

" In this book, J Krishnamurti wants us to understand that what is The Real Crisis, the crisis which is neither about the wars or brutality nor about our surroundings...
It is all about what we are and what we have become.

The author literally has raise his concern about what an individual basically is and what is his personal perceptions. He have also mentioned how to face the real crisis and what should be done in that case.

According to him the modern world is all about technologies and advancement without the avid balance of psychology that means magnificent scientific experiments at the same time of human misery, empty hearts and minds, which implies the modern world. "

I don't know whether I should call it coincidence or my destiny. I was having a bad day at work today and was feeling low on everything. I was in denial mode and was constantly complaining about everything around me, my luck, my seniors, my work life. But then, I get a notification on my phone, reminding me of a review that is pending at my end. Since it was a very short book, I thought of reading it to find an escape from my present and atleast do ome thing right in the day.

And I sincerely thank J Krishnamurti for this little reminder on LIFE.

I'm also thankful to @ for pursuing me to read the book and be part of it wholly.

'The Real Crisis - J Krishnamurti'

Book Length: 40 pages
My Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book actually prove to be worthy of all my time and energy and not only did it challenge me outrightly on my thoughts and beliefs, but it clearly questioned my entire existence.

Every now and then the mankind is hit by a certain catastrophe or crisis which are usually one of kind and the man is ready to deal with it. The man is confused with the reality. The reality is not in searching for the remedy but it lies in the essential origin of the crisis.

Krishnamurti rightly points out in the book-
"The crisis is there. The crisis is not in the world, it is not in the nucleae war, it is not in the terrible divisions and the brutality that is going on. The crisis is in our consciousness, the crisis is what we are and what we have become."

My takeaways from this little bundle of inifinity:-

1. The humans are completely blinded by the instant gratification that they've started to neglect the actual pleasures in the pursuit of life.

2. We need to first understand the nature and create a bond of gratitude with it. It is only in the abandonment of our love for nature, that we have cultivated all the negative emotions within ourselves. We have closed all the windows of our life to let any fresh air come in. And sadly, we all call it "living in social security".

3. Humans are confused. They know they're in some trouble. But they do not want to know the cause of the trouble, but to only remediate it asap to get some comfort. And that is the main reason of our degeneration. We have cried and repented for hundreds of years over each and every crisis that we have faced, bit still we never learnt from our actions.

4. Man has found an escape from the actual pursuits of life by "seeking pleasure" in every activity. Pleasure is not the end in itself. It is an incident which occurs in search of something that is an end itself. Get free from the social trap you've built around yourself and dive into the river of Life. Let life decide what is best for you!

This is not just a book. This is not something which is meant to be kept on the shelf. It is a challenge to our entire existence and living. It is an eye opening wave which was started in the last century, only few excerpts of which have been brought to movement again through these 40 pages.

Complete hands down to such tremendous, life changing experience of reading such a great book.

I urge you all to wake up, and go find yourself, as soon as you can. Because life waits for none.

ow many times have you questioned yourself, is the life you are leading real?
"There is only Reality, the supreme without a second. There is
only one humanity and one righteousness".
Title:- The Real Crisis
Author:- J Krishnamurti
We all have our own "formed" realities, realities where we think we are happy, where we think we are self-aware. But are we? Are we really?
How do you begin to explain a book that questions your version of reality?
In this modern era, so many of us have become atheists. We do not believe in a greater, eteranal, real force. We spend our lives earning money, getting luxuries, thinking it is satisfying.
But when we question who God is, what eternity is, we come up blank.
That is because it is a truth we have not yet discovered an answer to, a quest each individual must take upon themselves, where you fight against the illusion of reality you have created and find the eternal beyond.
The book was short and one of those that makes you pause, put it down and think.
Humans have found ways of escaping reality and it is time we face the real world, it is time we stop escaping. This message has been strongly portrayed by the book. The Real Crisis shattered any myths I had about living in a real world, being at peace,. Because what am I doing by learning these textbook answers? I still do not know what or whom God is. Real Crisis explains how catastrophes keep occuring, and how man is not stepping any closer to the truth, how distant we have become from nature, how we are no longer connected to the universe. Time to wake up, and face THE REAL CRISIS.

The Real Crisis By Jiddu Krishnamurti .
Review-:
After reading this book I got to know that what are the real crisis in today's world.
It's not anything other than the human consciousness about what is happening in our lives.
Today, we don't know why we are here on earth, what's our purpose, what are we actually doing here??
Most of us having mob mentality. We don't know precisely what is our main role to play in this chaos.
This book tells us, that we are so much indulged in finding amusement rather than meaning, because of the materialistic things we forget the meaning of spirituality and nature because of which we are living here.
This book shows mirror to our society and the very unacceptable truth.

My rating will be 5/5.

There's absolutely nothing to dislike about this book.

J Krishnamurti has been one of the greatest philosophers of his time and this book simply restates the fact. A collection of one of his most profound and impactful quotes, each page makes you think and reflect on your actions.

There are points I don't hundred percent agree with - but that's my thing to deal with. The way he states facts leaves lasting impressions.

Kudos to this compilation! A book to have on your shelf.

It's no brainer that this book will make you think! As they were excerpts it did feel very short and left it a bit incomplete for me. I wanted to read more and get a better insight to some of J. Krishnamurti's thoughts. The book does give you information about the speech/writing that the excerpt has been picked up from, that helped me a lot.

I'm all the more excited to read other works by J. Krishnamurti.

“Between one crisis and the next lies what we call our normal life.”

I am not a fan of reading e-books, but this particular book caught my attention. The name of the book was very interesting, thus I ended up reading it in a single sitting.

There is technical advancement without an equally vital psychological advancement, and so there is a state of unbalance; there are extraordinary scientic achievements, and at the same time human misery, empty hearts, and empty minds.

Your culture says: Why bother about what the meaning of life is; just live, put up with the ugliness, the beastly existence, the sorrow, the pain, the anxiety, the pleasures, the fears, the utter boredom, the loneliness; all that is part of your life. You cannot go beyond it; therefore enjoy, make pleasure the main thing of your life.
And that is what you are doing.
THE REAL CRISIS

The book was very well written. The author gives his views about this generations issues! It offers valuable lessons about skills, strength & how intelligence know-how should be used in today’s real crisis filled society.

A must read for everyone!

This is a short book with 41 pages where we can find what we are really missing in our life. We will understand the real crisis.

We forgot what we are, why we are living. We learn a lot of languages and acquire many skills but forget to know about ourselves. One should spend time to know themselves so they can become a better person.

We all are running the race to get money, fame becomes to achieve some goals but that is not what our life is destined to. We are wasting our life on materialistic things rather than finding the truth of existence.

There are a lot of problems in this world because, for each person, we are changing the culture where there is value for relationships and value for other beings. We are not connected to nature. We are exploiting everything for our materialistic benefits.

Religions exist to make us know the truth and enlighten us and make us understand ourselves and help us to connect with ourselves.

We are always occupied with something like work, entertainment, etc., and finding and escaping rather than spending time alone with ourselves.

I think we have understood what the real crisis is, we all are becoming something without knowing what we are which is the cause of all problems.

This is written in a very simple way with a long-lasting effect on us that makes us think. and feel the emptiness within.

The crisis is there. The crisis is not in the world, it is not the nuclear war, it is not the terrible divisions and the brutality that is going on. The crisis is in our consciousness, the crisis is what we are, what we have become.

Through his excerpts collected from his different works, I definitely developed a different perspective towards the present condition of life and the source of commonly found displeasure in most that is the result of our mindless actions.

Jiddu Krishnamurti's speeches and books always make me think about life and everything in general from a different perspective. It started when I first read his work 'Education and Significance of Life' in 2011-12. Mr. Krishnamurti always critically observes the society and its practices, this helps him find the flaws in the system and suggest new ways of doing things. Most of his teachings guide us to lead our lives in search of truth and purpose. Because any activity performed without a purpose is just a waste of our time.
📖
This book is a collection of various speeches and writings of Mr Krishnamurti where the main focus is on 'The Crisis'. He has spoken about different types of crises in human life and society. He also speaks about how do we find balance with all the things around us and seek crises when we don't have any. Most people observe crisis as a negative influence. According to him, the 'crisis' need not always be negative, many times it helps us to be better human beings and give new perspective to our life. Which is true with most of us, if we analyse our life and situations.
📖
Though this is a small book 40 pages, I loved reading every word and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you haven't read Mr Krishnamurti's work then this could be a good start.

𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓: J Krishnamurti

𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘:
The Real Crisis written by the author J Krishnamurti is a 40 pages book that consists of collection of excerpts from his talks and writings. Author has mentioned how we are responsible for the catastrophic disaster. It is us who is responsible for it because of our everyday activities that includes envy and passion, greed and competition for power or dominance, etc.

"The crisis is there. The crisis is not in the world, it is not the nuclear war, it is not the terrible divisions and the brutality that is going on. The crisis is in our consciousness, the crisis is what we are, what we have become."

I agree with the above lines said by the author. Author has also discussed that we keep on acquiring knowledge about particular subjects for years but we don't find time for ourselves to figure out who we are.

This is a thought provoking read that I definitely like to recommend to my fellow readers. Language of the book is lucid. Thoughts expressed by the author in this book are worth reading to make our life more meaningful.

This study of oneself is not mere inaction. On the contrary, it requires an extraordinary awareness in everything that one does, an awareness in which there is no judgement, no condemnation or blame.

I love reading self help books because I want to be more and more aware of myself. I am glad to get my hands on this book because it is according to my reading taste. In this author's focus is on telling readers to take the journey within themselves.

In today's so called modern world, people just follow the pattern that is set in front of them. It's time for us to not follow the pattern, instead we should focus on becoming more and more self-aware. That is the way only that we can free ourselves and the world from the crisis.

This is an informative spiritual read. Since length of the book is just 40 pages, I was able to finish it in a single sitting. Author has mentioned great thoughts in this book. Cover photo of the book is simple with an easy use of language. Narration is strong and smooth. I like to recommend this book to other readers.

The Real Crisis
By
J Krishnamurti

My Review:
"The Real Crisis" is the first book that I have read written by the author J Krishnamurti. In this book, author has mentioned that we all have become busy in a rat race. We don't spend time with nature. We just keep on living monotonous life without thinking why are we living like this? We don't give a thought to find out who we are.

Reading this book will open reader's eyes and next time before doing any task they will consider why they are doing it? We keep on running after earning money and then spending it for our pleasure. But from inside we are just hollow. Self-knowledge is very important to bring order in the world.

This is an inspiring read that is an eye opener also. It inspire readers to free themselves from the monotonous routine and they should spend more time with themselves to be more aware of oneself. Language of the book is simple. Cover photo is nice and the title couldn't have been better than this. It is a short and quick read and a promising read.

My Rating: 4.5/5

It is a really short yet deep read. The author has summed up something that directly hits our mind and forces us to look around and think.

Out there, the world is full of problems, sorrow, miseries, worries etc. But what we are, is only because of us only.

We become what we think and work upon. And most of us today follow the path of escaping by different ways, rather than following and facing what we really should.

The book has a really simple cover and nice language. It is something that will trigger something good in you and will guide you to look at what you have been ignoring.

It will definitely make you question your perspective. There are points to which you can easily find yourself in and they will help you see the new approach to things.

Today, everyone has issues and everyone suffers. But this book will make you see "The Real Crisis" within yourself.

Absolutely loved reading it.

A much empowering short book is a must read for all. As the virtues and nimbleness of J Krishnamurthi is very well renowned and prudence. This book throws light upon the history of our nation and on all the times where we left like in a state unprecedented per perpetual problems and difficult, a fear of discrediting and how we with out great wanton pacifism came out of it with an ease in mind and hope in heart. The burgeoning attempt of tutelage is flabbergasting. The way reluctant abhors impasse situations are penned with an valuable message in the end of it is absolutely laudable and commendable. An esoteric attempt to bring out the most inspiring and obeisance values out from our history is just the most insofar beautiful naivete I personally acknowledged so far.
A must read for all as this one is definitely a book full of values and necessary basic steps to how one can deal with hard and acrimonious aspects of our life. A much appreciated, meaningful and convivial read :) ❤

J. Krishnamurti's The Real Crises is a philosophical book written in such a simple language and writing style that makes it easier to understand some heavy topics. He asks us some real Important questions about our existence and teaches us some simple ways of living make a world a better place.⁣

Philosophy is usually a not so interesting subject for me, but this book was an exception. It didn't feel very heavy while reading. I actually learnt a lot about life and right approach to it. It is barely 40 pages long with excerpts from J. Krishnamurti's talks from 1934 to 1985⁣

Must read for those who are genuinely seeking the way to the truth and deeply interested in philosophy .

Completed this is single sitting . Reading Jiddu Krishnamurti is like having conversation with him. The wisdom he shares in simple yet very profound ways .
