Lake Jones is a cover girl for cutting-edge prosthetic legs, a binge-watcher of Netflix, known to spy on her neighbor through her door’s peephole, and fond of laser games with her hairless cat. She’s also a bit sexually-frustrated.

Until …

God bestows a breath of mercy upon her in the form of Minnesota’s NFL starting quarterback. But this gift is no stranger. Lake met Cage Monaghan three years earlier.

It was one day.
One moment.
One kiss that resurrected her dreams of finding love.

His dimpled smile distracts from his imperfections, which include: a love for country music, fishing, and a feline-hating girlfriend.

When life finally gives them their chance, it’s a humorous and heart-wrenching journey to find their place in the world.

"We would be Cage and Lake. We would be unpredictable. We would be reckless. We would give normality the middle finger.”

***This book is a standalone. However, it is HIGHLY recommended that any readers who have not, but may consider, reading the Jack & Jill Series, do so before reading this book. It contains spoilers to Jack & Jill.

When I read my first book by Jewel E. Ann two years ago, I immediately knew she would be my favorite author.

This book once again proves that Jewel E. Ann is a truly remarkable author, one of the best in the contemporary romance genre.

With each book she releases, my love for her exceptional writing, unique storylines, dry humor and beautiful characters amplifies. She’s one of those authors you want to read again and again.

I honestly thought no couple could top Jessica and Luke, but Lake and Cage, they are a universe of its own.

Lake Jones.

Queen of the peephole with an addiction to waffles with chocolate hazelnut butter and a soft spot for children and disabled cats. A free-spirited, cheerful and chatty girl who has been dealt a rough hand in life. Despite her disability, she’s optimistic, very strong and independent. I loved her quirkiness, impulsiveness and stubbornness. Her dry humor and witty antics made me laugh out loud more than once. She’s one of those heroines you want to squeeze and never let go.

Cage Monaghan.

A hot blue-eyed NFL superstar. Addicted to football and anything Lake Jones. He is a typical Jewel E. Ann hero: playful, easy-going, sweet, thoughtful, loyal, protective, caring with a touch of possessiveness, a bit vulnerable but strong. The way he adores and understands Lake and sees her true self is heartwarmingly beautiful.

Lake and Cage are so complex and well-developed characters that you can't help but view them as real and fall in love with them completely.

Their connection is real, powerful and deep. Their love is selfless, intense and all-consuming. They are such a perfect match - two imperfect individuals who complement each other perfectly.

Love was immune to time. Fuck the naysayers and anti-insta-lovers. They were nothing more than bitter people who had never met their “one.”

This is one of those books where words count more than the story and emotions overpower the content. To say that I enjoyed it would be an understatement. I was completely consumed, savoring each word and every page.

”I love our story. I love it so much because in every chapter you make me fall in love with you all over again. Let’s never be in love. Let’s fall every day without ever touching the ground.”

Jewel E Ann became one of my MUST READ authors since I read Undeniably You last year. Her writing is intoxicating. She has created some of the most incredible book boyfriends that not many can rival. ONE is a spin-off of the ”Jack & Jill” series. The main characters met in Dawn of Forever and the little scene that they share definitely had us readers wanting more of Cage and Lake’s story! Well, all I can say is that you will not be disappointed with the journey Jewel takes these two characters on. I find myself still sighing over all things Cage Monaghan.

 photo 3c870132fab91f1ff096ecd1b926923a_zpsgvwqqjhw.jpg

Lake Jones, little sister of Luke from the ”Jack & Jill” series has recently moved to Minnesota, with her hairless cat, Trzy. She needed to start fresh somewhere that didn’t have all the painful reminders of her past life before the tragic car accident that resulted in the death of her fiancé and the loss of her leg. She works as a tester of prosthetic legs for the scientist that creates them. For the most part, she’s happy with her life, but she’s been going through a long dry spell in the romance department. Lake still mourns the loss of her fiancé, but she also hasn’t been able to forget the man she met three years ago while on a mission to help her brother, Luke, find his fiancé, Jessica. Although they only spent a couple hours together, it left a lasting impact on Lake. Cage was able to take up space in her heart and she found it impossible to let him go.

Luckily for Lake, her newest neighbor happens to be a Pro-NFL player for the Minnesota King’s and during a house party, she comes face to face with the man who’s been the focus of all her fantasies, Cage Monaghan. Cage is currently the new Quarterback for the Minnesota King’s and his performance on the field is guaranteeing a Super Bowl win. When they bump into each other, there’s no denying the attraction is still quite strong between them.

For me, it was Cage who made this book amazing. I did love the moments spent with their families, especially with Luke & Jessica, but for the most part, it was Cage that stole my heart! His love for Lake seemed limitless. I loved that he never saw her disability as a flaw and that Lake was complete perfection in his eyes. Even his jealous tendencies were adorable to me.

Lake’s vulnerability, for the most part, was endearing. I did love her ability to laugh in the face of adversity and also her tender side. Her scenes with little Shayna really tugged at the heartstrings.

The romance between the two almost seems like it’s insta-love, but you have to remember Cage and Lake met years ago and that it only took a few hours to develop a strong attraction towards each other. The love between Cage and Lake is beyond intense. I was almost surprised at how for the most part the story seemed to be very low on drama. But then we get to the 90% mark and I felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest!! I couldn’t breathe!!! This was going to make or break my love for this book!!! Jewel really knows how to literally pull the rug out from under you and nearly drive you to drink!! I do enjoy books that torture me a bit because if everything flows too easily in a story without any major conflict involved, I tend to lose interest quickly.

ONE is a standalone, but if you haven’t read the ”Jack & Jill’ series, I highly recommend that you do. For starters, it was an AMAZING series and most importantly, Lake and Cage meet in the third book and you’ll want to experience that part of their history. You’ll understand why this book had to be written.

ONE is available now. Be sure to one-click!!

"Let's never BE in love. Let's FALL every day without ever touching the ground."

➦This book has everything I could ever want in a romantic comedy - lots of humor, some angst and a bit of steam! The main characters are just so stinkin' cute! And don't get me started on the supporting characters. I hope Flint's book is in the works already, that's all I'm gonna say.

➦We have Lake, a young woman who is full of life despite the fact that she has lost one of her legs in a car accident. And then there is Cage, a star quarterback, who is married to his career. When these two meet... they realize they have met before... and shared ONE kiss... a kiss that changed everything.

❤One thing that I absolutely love about Jewel E. Ann's writing is her ability to create these unique and fascinating characters who are so likable that you can't help but fall in love with all of them!

❤I loved both Lake and Cage, loved how they worked through the bumps on the road and fought for their relationship. They weren't perfect but their love and respect for each other was the glue that held them together.

➦I think I'll keep this nice and short - highly recommended to everyone who enjoys romcoms, sweet heroes and American football (no worries, you don't need to know anything about the game). Although this book has some steam, you won't find any explicit sexual content here. But there's whole lot of romance - you won't be disappointed!

P.S. Can be read as a standalone but recommended to be read after End of Day (Jack & Jill, #1) by Jewel E. Ann Middle of Knight (Jack & Jill, #2) by Jewel E. Ann Dawn of Forever (Jack & Jill, #3) by Jewel E. Ann Jack & Jill series as it contains spoilers for it.

It only took one day this amazing book and I enjoyed every part of it! This is my first book of Jewel E. Ann. It’s great to discover her with one of her greatest book. Sooo thankful to my Goodreads friends to recommend it to me. I can say that I’m in love with Cage and Lake’s story and so excited to continue to Flint’s story by reading Look the Part.
And finally giving five stars to this book is not fair. This perfectly written book deserves more stars and more readers who need to gather more inspiration, joy into their lives.

"Cage Monahan was the reason my life was spared. I didn’t know how I knew it… I just did.”

description

Though this story can be read as a standalone, fans of this author’s Jack and Jill series will adore this funny, sexy and heartfelt story. Lake Jones is Dr. Luke Jones’ sister who helped him search for Jessica Day in the Jack and Jill series. Fans of that series will remember the attraction and connection she shared with Cage Monahan in that brief encounter three years ago.

”I knew him for a few hours. One day. One kiss. One moment. One unforgettable memory.”

The humor in this book and the SWOON is spot on as you fall harder and harder for this couple. From that Beijing kiss, to hot and steamy sex, that ugly cat, to meeting the parents (LOVED) it all worked and made for a wonderful read.

”Don’t forget to love me.”

“Impossible.”

description

I found the events heading into the ending were different yet I’m still not sure how I feel about the bumps though I adored the characters from start to finish. I totally recommend this book for fans of the author’s previous series though this one lacks the mystery and excitement it does have one hot and sweet as hell quarterback and an endearing heroine.

There’s a bunch of new characters introduced all of who were interesting and I’m totally on board with Flint and Everson books… pretty please Ms. Ann.

Well, it's official now. I'm seriously addicted Jewel E. Ann's books!!! :D Story, chemisty and the humor between Cage & Lake was soooooo good! And my god, I love Jewel's strong female characters very much. They are so different, unique and oh they're also very chatty! 😁 Btw I almost forgot Cage Monaghan. I LOVE HIM! That man melt my heart.... And I mentally cheated my husband with him!!! Yup, he was that good... 😋😋😋

Anyway, if you haven't read any books of hers yet, trust me you definitely should give a chance. I highly recommend Jewel's books to you. ❤

Cage Monaghan ... sigh ... I'll get back to him in a minute.

One is a spinoff/standalone to the Jack & Jill Series (End of Day, Middle of Knight, Dawn of Forever). However, there are LOTS of spoilers to the series, so I recommend you read J&J first if you haven't, but would ever consider reading it. And if I'm honest—I really think you should read the series. ;)

Back to Cage ... I love him. I'm usually not a fan of perfect characters, quite the opposite. But Cage and Lake are the exceptions. I adore them. They are young and quirky and completely endearing. The NFL player who sees the amputee as nothing short of amazing. What's not to love?

I certainly hope readers will give me some slack on my amputee character. I'm not an amputee, but I spent a long time doing research for this book. This is not a research paper being submitted for publication in a medical journal. I did the best I could with the resources I had. This is a love story with a character who happens to have a disability. It's not a story about the disability. It's fiction.

For those of you who are Lautner Sullivan fans ... this is your new guy. It just has to be your new guy!!! And if not. Why, why, why?

We would be Cage and Lake.
We would be unpredictable.
We would be reckless.
We would push the boundaries of sanity and give normalcy the middle finger.

^^^ That sums it up! Hope you enjoy my romantic comedy!

This was such a delight to revisit .....and Cage....argh...what a wonderful and absolutely perfect book boyfriend.
If you intend to read the "Jack & Jill" series by this author....be sure to read them first....as there are just too many crossover details included in this story but otherwise it can be read as a standalone.

After reading the emotionally challenging but absolutely sublime Jack and Jill series by this author I was thrilled to start this spinoff book and discover how wonderful reading this simply adorable, funny and very romantic book made me feel.
It was pure reading pleasure, I smiled, I laughed, I swooned and I really wanted all those feelings to last.
I also couldn't say whom I loved more: Cage or Lake (favorite couple-oh yes!!).

Lake was such a strong and courageous woman. Fiercely independent, she didn't allow the accident from her past to hold her back but more importantly she didn't let her resulting physical disability define her either.
Also, have to mention ...... I really loved the hilarious things that came out of her mouth (no impulse control) and don't get me started with her crazy cat... absolutely hysterical.

Cage, OMG what a heartthrob!!!!! He completely melted my heart. His love for Lake and the way he romanced her with all the chapters to their story (still swooning).....

Oh how I loved this book, let me count the ways.

I love how this book made me feel when I was reading it. It made me so freaking giddy and excited. I literally texted my bestie all day to tell her how much I was loving reading this book. It reminded me why I love reading, the escape and happiness reading provides. I didn’t think about anything I had going on, I fell completely into Lake and Cage’s world.

I love how this book made me fall in love. Lake Jones is a FANTASTIC character, fantastic! She has a below the knee amputation and her job is to tests advanced prothesis. She is helping her brilliant employer end physical disabilities. What I loved about Lake, she faced adversity and grew from it. She isn’t super woman, she is still very human and her feelings were completely genuine. However, she decided she was going to move on, be confident and she did.

I love the idea that ONE moment can forever change your life. There have been several moments for Lake, but that moment when she met Cage her thought process changed. Lake’s life had just fallen to pieces when she first meets Cage. They spent one day together and that day brought her life into perspective and changed her. It’s years later when we Lake and Cage meet again. He is now a professional football player and she is the brave girl who is ready to win over her ONE.

I love how this book made me feel and think, but wasn’t too heavy. I mean this message and some parts of this story hurt my heart, but reading a book and feeling things is a powerful thing. When an author can bring characters to life so that you truly FEEL it’s an amazing thing. This book changed how I think and that is another powerful thing. Think about how many things try to alter our opinions and thoughts, well Jewel E. Ann did it through her characters. Lake made me want to be more.

Lastly, I love how this book stayed with me. It has been days since I read it and I still love it the same way I did when I finished. Truthfully, writing this review makes me want to pick the book back up and reread it. I am so freaking excited for tomorrow when I can read the extended epilogue in the final copy. I am also so excited for my friends who will be reading this one tomorrow so I can relive my favorite moments with them.

This book, it’s perfection to me. Very rarely do I feel inclined to post on social media when I finish an awesome book. However, this book just needed to be shouted from the rooftop, or from a FB post. I want everyone to read this book, because I truly believe it has so many parts that people will love. I absolutely, 100% recommend!

5++ “F*ck gravity” STARS

One day.
One Kiss.
One moment.
One unforgettable memory.”

This is a standalone but also a spin off from Jewel’s Jack & Jill series. I strongly recommend you read the series first. We meet both Lake Jones and Cage Monaghan in that series. They have a brief yet very meaningful encounter. I knew from really early on in reading it that it was going to be among my favs for the year. The feels and connection to both Lake and Cage was palpable, intense and addictive!

Lake is one of those characters that you simply connect with on all levels. She’s hilarious, flawed, real, sweet and utterly lovable. We first meet her in the Jack & Jill series as Luke’s youngest sister. For her young years of 24, she’s already lost her boyfriend and her leg to a tragic car accident. She’s struggled to find herself again, have people see more than her ‘perceived’ limitations and is still struggling with her survivor’s guilt.

“Ben died and I lived.”

Cage is Minnesota’s NFL starting quarterback and also a man who has suffered a lost that he’s chosen not to deal with. I loved Cage in the Jack & Jill series and was thrilled to learn this was his story. Cage is all man, hot and sexy, but he has a vulnerability about him that had me falling hard and fast for him. He’s just one special hero.

And an added bonus, if you’re a fan of AJ in the Jack & Jill Series (Maida ;), seeing Cage’s future is so bittersweet and kinda like another connection to AJ. Perfection!

Cage and Lake’s story starts with one shared moment in time. A moment when they both needed a reason, something more to keep them going, and they were that for each other. Neither forgot the other.

And as fate would have it, they are brought back together. Their love is heartwarming and

”Don’t forget to love me.”
“Impossible.”

There’s a mix of laughs and sadness although the angst is low and any obstacles for Cage and Lake, I found, were mature and real. These two were so refreshing. Even when they were at odds, there was this strength, bond and love that endured, no matter what.

 photo One_zpskp3gi7uy.jpg

Jewel weaves so many great themes and messages into this tale about self-worth and image, the fragility of life, the importance of living and the brevity but also the extreme significance of one moment, one person, one love.

This is a MUST READ. It’s going among my favs for the year!

I'm giving this one a second chance.

I feel like I didn't appreciate it the first time around. My book hangover after I read and loved Look The Part was just too hard to overcome.

Now after some distance I'm in the right mood for some new Jewel E Ann.
Wish me luck!! So far so good....

Jewel E Ann writes THE most swooniest heroes, I absolutely adored Cage Monohan, and his love interest Lake Jones. ❤️

This is a spin-off from one of my favourite trilogies of all time The Jack & Jill Series which features the two main characters in One. One can however be read as a standalone, but you will get spoilers from the trilogy, and if you are planning to read that, then I suggest reading in order.

Lake is an amputee, who has risen above her disability and become a thoroughly strong and independent woman who tests robotic legs out for a living, and travels the world doing crazy feats such as rock climbing and other extreme sports. She lets nothing stop her, and her wacky and fun personality endears people to her inner beauty.

Cage and Lake met one day, when the timing wasn't right and their lives were both up in the air. Famous NFL quarterback Cage has never forgotten their meeting, nor has Lake ever forgotten the feelings she had that one day three years ago.

This is a book about fate, and about how one day can change the course of your life. It is about true love and perseverance. It was cute and sexy and I highly recommend this author to anyone, did I mention she writes THE swooniest heroes?

"Don't forget to love me."
"Impossible."

Gorgeous story.

4.25 "F*ck Gravity" Stars!

 photo 9D18D181-9372-4928-916D-13354B6FC83A_zpslof3ieye.jpg

One is an endearingly funny spin-off story from the Jack and Jill series. We met Lake and Cage in Jack and Jill and that series provides a nice backstory for both of them. Though this book can be read as a standalone, if there's a chance at all you plan to read Jack and Jill (which I highly recommend because it's that awesome), I'd read that trilogy first as this book contains huge spoilers for that series. That being said...

Lake Jones is a feisty little thing with a below-the-knee amputation. She's living on her own in Minnesota and her highlight in life is watching her hot, Hulkish neighbor across the hall through her little peephole. So yah, she's a peepholing-Tom with an insane addiction to Netflix! After a serious auto accident caused the loss of her lower limb, she finds herself a cover model and test subject for new high-tech prosthetics for all walks of life- pretty sexy leg, swimmers, hikers... there's a prosthesis for it.

Cage Monaghan is a famous rookie NFL quarterback when he sets eyes on Lake at his teammate's party. They have history of one hot kiss and a life-changing connection dating back to a very tough time in his life. He's got his second chance and he's going to take it before she disappears again...

One, when compared to the other books I've read by Jewel E. Ann, is fairly light on angst or suspense. Jack and Jill series is more of a romantic suspense where this story is lighter-hearted and more romantic comedy. Jewel E. Ann never fails to instill her dry humor and witty dialogue into every book she writes. Usually it's to lighten a heavier, more emotional plot where this book, it just flows through effortlessly. I have to admit, I was waiting and waiting for the shoe to drop, for my heart to get ripped out because I knew Jewel E. Ann has that capability but this story never did that. Was my inner masochist disappointed? Maybe a tad. I do love that gradual build-up, climax, rip my heart out and mend it back together plot. We do get a bit of conflict here but very little compared to other books she's written. One is more of the day to day build-up of the love story between Cage and Lake. Fans looking for a lighter read in between something dark or emotional would enjoy this bit of a reprieve.

Jewel E. Ann did a great job with the amputee aspect of this story. It's different, refreshing, and I loved how she made sure Lake didn't let her disability define her. Positive self image, athletic, strong-willed, and a guy that falls to his knees in her presence. His eyes never looked the other way when this girl with a flawed verbal-filter entered during one of the saddest points in his life three years ago. He was a goner then and here's his second chance now!

Another successful story by the lovely Jewel E. Ann. And I must put in an order for a book about a certain sports agent named Flint whose backstory promises me the emotional sucker punch my inner angst-whore craves. Hint hint.

"I love our story. I love it so much because in every chapter you make me fall in love with you all over again. Let's never 'be' in love. Let's 'fall' every day without ever touching the ground."

"Fuck gravity."

"Exactly, fuck gravity."

I would say I'm surprised how many 5 star reviews there are without any mention of the blatant racism, but I'm not. On the first page of the book, the main character says that "a gorilla" moved into the apartment next to hers. Now, this where I think oh the guy must be enormous. No. Then she proceeds to call him King Kong. King Kong is huge, too, right? There's no way she's referring to a black person. Wrong. It gets worse. The next sentence is, "He was a mountain of muscles wrapped in dark skin perfection. Black? African-American? I failed to keep up on socially acceptable language." What in the actual fuck? It's crazy how the author and everyone who read this book thought this was okay. The only reason I one-clicked this is that it was free(thank god). I did not finish this book and immediately deleted it.

The best book I read this year. I took it with me for the holidays and the choice could not be better. It is my first book of the author, and she totally blow my mind. I fell in love with the characters on first page and it was better and better. Just amazing reading which you can recommend to everyone. I will write full review when I get home, but you do not wasting your time, read it right now.

‘Best decision of your life, buddy.’

My favorite Jewel's book so far. Cage and Lake were a perfect fit, he was so dreamy, understanding and he loved Lake with his whole heart. I loved Lake's spirit, humour, the way she lives her life and I was maybe a little bit jealous of her job because as sad as it was, it was badass-y.

I loved this book so much and my only issue is that I can't give it more stars!

With how much I absolutely adored the Jack & Jill series, I was hoping that this story would have a huge impact on me. And it did!!

Not only was I gifted with an incredible heroine in Lake, but I was blessed with one heck of a new book boyfriend in all that was amazing in Cage. After a chance encounter years ago, time and circumstance bring them back into each other's orbits and they didn't let this opportunity go to waste.

I wanted the man.
I wanted him.
I wanted to always remember that all my yesterdays didn't matter.
When he looked at me, when he touched me... that became my reality, my truth.

I starting loving this story from the start and at 17% I said to myself, you know what would make this story perfect? Cage's perspective. And do you know what happened?

I GOT CAGE'S PERSPECTIVE!!

It's like the author predicted my wants and needs and delivered them in the next instant. And that happened every. Single. Time!

When Cage and Lake got into a dispute and I wanted it resolved a certain way... the author delivered. When Cage or Lake became overwhelmed with emotion, almost sabotaging the magic that they shared, and I wanted it to stop... the author delivered. She delivered and delivered and created a story of beauty, simplicity and wonder.

He didn't complete me with a part of himself; he just put me back together with all my own pieces. I shattered and he crawled aroud on the floor handing me my confidence, my hope, my dreams, my voice, my future. He mended me then kissed my scars and looked at me like I was nothing short of a timeless masterpiece.

These characters were human. They made mistakes, acted restless, exhibited immaturity, and created drama for drama's sake. Their story was full of tragedy, grief, understanding, compassion, and so much love. Seriously, people would give up just about anything for an ounce of the feelings that were shown here. We all want to be loved in all the ways that Cage and Lake loved each other. All the ugly, crazy, silly, and beautiful ways. And let's not forget the laughs. I laughed so much during this read. SO. MUCH!

Dual POV - 1st person
Heat - 2.5 out of 5 (why couldn't I get some real sexy scenes?)

“Let’s never be in love. Let’s fall every day without ever touching the ground.”

Be still our beating hearts because we’ve fallen head over heels in love with this book! We never thought Jewel E Anne would produce a hero to equal the divine Luke Jones from the Jack & Jill Series – in Cage Monaghan she has! Talk about sweeping us off our feet. Cage is an explosion of swooon!

‘Lake was her own universe, and when I had the pleasure of being part of it, I wasn’t a famous football player and I wasn’t the man grieving his father. I was the guy who wanted to make being with her a full-time profession.’

The words swoony, romantic and heart-warming don’t adequately express the feelings we had for this love story as our hearts overflowed with huge helpings of sharp wit, happiness, laughter, love, romance and a few heart gripping moments. What more could we ask for?

“When your season begins and we don’t see each other as much, can you do me a favour?”
“Anything.”
“Don’t forget to love me.”
“I’ll forget how to throw a football before I’ll forget to love you.”

Jewel E Ann has a true gift. She’s such a seamless storyteller. Her comedic timing is perfection, knowing exactly when we need that blast of humour when she’s breaking our hearts. Not only does she deliver the most gorgeous hero’s, but her heroines are ones we want to emulate. We want to be Lake Jones! She’s kick arse, sweet, grabs life by the balls and she doesn’t mind laughing at herself. This girl doesn’t shy away from the truth and she’s funny as all hell though she did have one moment towards the end that had us questioning her actions and reasoning.

We first met Lake, Luke’s sister in the Jack & Jill Series (if you haven’t read this series…you need to because it’s spectacular), after Lake had a brief encounter with Cage Monaghan yet he had a profound effect on her life, and they shared a connection that began that day… ‘I knew him for a few hours. One day. One kiss. One moment. One unforgettable memory.’ at a time when Lake had been working through the unimaginable grief of surviving a car accident that claimed the life of her boyfriend Ben, and was feeling pretty much at rock bottom. Not only that, but she had to cope with losing her lower leg. However Lake doesn’t just accept her disability, she embraces it and oh my God, didn’t the witty banter between Cage and Lake in regards to her missing leg have us in fits of laughter.

“Time is too precious to waste. I don’t want to plan. I want to live.”

It’s three years later and they pick up where they left off, each feeling the connection once again ignite “And Lake…I remember the kiss. I remember it well” and although their feelings were instant in the timing of the story, not once did this feel like insta love as we experienced every ounce of feeling between them and not only that, we believed in their love. They’re soulmates but that doesn’t mean their relationship isn’t without its ups and downs as their way through family and careers.

‘After his whole body visibly relaxed and I was certain that he was asleep, I looked in the direction of God and whispered, “Can I keep him? Pretty please?”

These days it’s so rare to experience a book that focuses solely on the love, romance and fun of the evolving relationship between a couple, and considering Cage’s profession it would have been so easy for this author to have taken us down the overused celebrity cliché route, but she didn’t and in return this story felt like a bit of a refreshing change.

We were completely invested One, positively giddy with hearts swelling and faces grinning. So…it was with a smidgen of disappointment that we were met with, what we felt, unnecessary angst so late in the story. Sure, it pulled at our heartstrings but it also had a downside in that it seemed to change Lake’s persona. Lake came across a little self-centred, the very opposite to how she was throughout the rest of the story. Whilst we wish it part of the storyline hadn’t been there (and that’s a purely personal thing), we soon realised that after that beautiful epilogue and coming to the end, this was a small hiccup in an otherwise immensely enjoyable read.

“Football is my job. Let me worry about it. You are my life…worry about that. “

We can’t possibly leave without once again mentioning our hero Cage Monaghan *insert huge swoony sigh here*. Oh Cage, you sweet, irresistible, gorgeous man! Not only are you a gifted NFL Quarterback but you have a romantic heart the size of Texas where our girl Lake is concerned. Nobody but nobody does romance like this guy. We highlighted so much of this book we could use the quotes as a review and you’d be swooning and swaying, 1clicking this book, going ga ga over Cage. Passionate, loving and a bit of a dirty talker, this guy is it and so is this book. We adored every character and for all that’s holy, please give Flint Hopkins a book! We desperately loved One and know you will too!

‘I nodded, giving Flint a blank stare. The man was an enigma – a hard-ass with a million layers, and I had no idea what he kept hidden beneath them. I wasn’t sure I really wanted to know.’

📚 “Cage?”
He turned. “Yes?”
“You want to know what comes after the epilogue?”
“What?”
“A new book filled with endless possibilities.”

📚I leaned in cautiously, letting my lips hover over his. “Monaghan … don’t forget to love me.” I pressed a light kiss to his lips.
“Impossible,” he whispered.

📚I waited for him to shut my door, but he just stared at me. No one looked at me like Cage Monaghan. I thought it the first time we laid eyes on each other, and years later it still felt the same. He looked at me like people looked at puppies, cooing babies, ocean-view sunsets, and … miracles.

“I don’t care if you’re gay. It’s none of my business, and unlike some people, I know how to mind my own business.”
Total bullshit. I was queen of the peephole. My favorite hobby was trespassing into other people’s business.

And just like that … Luke stole my heart. He let his past go and gave me my chance at a future. I nearly cried when he smiled, the one that said he was happy for me.

“One is enough. It’s unique. It’s a chance, an opportunity, an experience. One is never greedy. One is independent. One can change everything.”
In my mind, humor and angst go hand in hand with Jewel E. Ann’s books. One is a bit of a departure for her. It’s a sports romance that has all the wit, but none of the gut wrenching, anxiety producing conflicts I’ve come to expect. This book proves that Jewel can write lighthearted romantic comedy very well while maintaining an extremely touching quality.

What can I say about Cage, the hunky superstar quarterback with a huge heart? He’s an ice cream sundae with all the toppings. You’d have to be without a pulse if his romantic gestures and smooth lines don’t make you swoon.
“I love you in a way that feels so much bigger than four little letters.”
Lake is one fierce woman: independent, confident, and bold. I love that she’s a survivor who doesn’t let her tragedies or disability define her. To say she’s also a little quirky is the understatement of the year. She has no impulse control when it comes to her words, and the things that fly out of her mouth are alternately hilarious and cringe worthy.

The blurb mentions Cage’s girlfriend. I know some readers are prickly when it comes to cheating, so let me just clarify that there is no cheating in this book. While the chemistry between Lake and Cage is intense, One is low on steam, with bedroom scenes that are more of the fade to black variety. This is a sexy but sweet romance. Shayna—the adorable little girl who lives across the hall from Lake—will definitely steal your heart.

What detracted from the story for me is that both Cage and Lake engage in some irrational and uncharacteristic behavior in the second half of the book. Fortunately, things get back on track and it’s a really enjoyable ride to the finish. The ending is absolute perfection.

Fans of the amazing Jack & Jill trilogy will appreciate the mini-reunion with characters from those books. One is a standalone spinoff; however, it contains spoilers from the Jack & Jill series so I recommend you read those books first.

Jewel E. Ann has outdone herself yet again. After reading the Jack & Jill series I didn't think it was possible but she succeeded. One was spectacular!! I'm on cloud nine now! I'm so in love with these characters, not just Lake and Cage but everyone from the Jack & Jill series.

Before reading One I strongly suggest that you read the Jack & Jill series. It's a must! Because of the story and the fabulous characters. You will love One even more. I sure as hell did. I fell in love with the characters all over again. It also made me appreciate Ann's brilliant mind. Her writing and storytelling is in a league of her own. Even the simplest words evoked so many emotions within me. It's incredible! I kept highlighting page after page. Her words were that addictive and magical. I felt hypnotized cause I wouldn't or couldn't take my eyes off the pages, afraid I would miss a word or a sentence.

Lake and Cage's love story was nothing more than a masterpiece! They were phenomenal. I loved how Cage SAW Lake for her beauty, for who she was and not her disability. The same can be said for Lake. Cage was her one chance for love again and in her eyes he wasn't the big hot shot NFL star. They were just Lake and Cage. Their love was inspiring and so god damn beautiful. Their relationship was intense, romantic and funny as hell. I easily felt their chemistry when they first met in Dawn Of Forever. It was even more apparent in One, which only made me giddy as hell. I loved that it was told in both Lake and Cage's POV. Their love was intoxicating and all consuming. Every moment in this story was important and earth shattering. I appreciated and loved the references to when they first met. It also played a huge part in there relationship. Just genius!
I was happy that I got more of Luke and Jessica. More than I could even imagine. So damn satisfied. Also another reason to read the Jack & Jill series.

Jewel E. Ann is a brilliant storyteller. I've read five books of hers and I'm just in awe of her talent. She's a genius with words, knows how to captivate me and tickle my taste buds just the right way.
In my eyes One is a masterpiece! My masterpiece! I loved every thing about this story and its characters. It was beautifully written. I wanted to lick the words off the pages. One deserves more than five stars. It's just that good! It's phenomenal!

4.5 STARS

This book was pretty spectacular! Lake Jones is an amputee, but it doesn't define her. She's smart, snarky, and a devoted Netflix girl. She's super confident with a few pockets of vulnerability. I absolutely adored her. She had a life changing accident, but she grew stronger. She Lived for every moment, especially the moment she met Cage. He was a moment in time. They met when they were both mired in grief. There was a spark, but they didn't meet again for 3 years. In a coincidence brought on by fate, her new next door neighbor is his teammate. That's right people! Who we have here is football player, Heisman trophy winner ,and first round draft pick Cage Monaghan. Holy Shit! He was more than swoon worthy. He was beautiful, fun, shy and so sweet. He was also grumpy, jealous, and really freaking busy. We have a long and winding journey. We have past influences and life decisions in the making. I LOVED this story, but it was missing one thing for ME. I needed more heat in my sex scenes. Some of the scenes are fade to black, and the rest were just not enough to satisfy me.😜 There were times when the characters acted too young for their age, and this started to read more like a NA novel. I also wanted a little more background on Ben. Well I'm onto another book by this author about a secondary character in this book.

BIG FAT PUFFY HEARTS!!

F*@k gravity, it’s time to fall in love with Jewel E. Ann and the magic she created with Lake and Cage. One of my top reads of 2016 BY FAR! Sweet, sexy, powerful, and inspiring. If I could add more adjectives without sounding like a true moron, I would.

One is labeled a standalone, however, to truly appreciate this story of love, recovery, and forward motion you MUST have read the Jack & Jill series beforehand. Fans of the previous books are in for a massive treat. I haven’t left their world in days. My mind keeps slipping back to Lake and Cage and the sheer brilliance of their tale. It’s an ode to the human spirit, what overcoming obstacles can be if you believe in yourself, and the ability to change and inspire your own thoughts of yourself and ability.

Is it a love story? Yes, but it’s so much more. I highlighted ‘til my kindle bled blue and I re-read till the words soaked into my reader’s soul.

“We would be Cage and Lake.
We would be unpredictable.
We would be reckless.
We would push the boundaries of sanity and give normalcy the middle finger.“

One amazing fall into a 5 star read

There is nothing, and I mean, nothing I don’t like about this book. You hear? Nothing!

What a total swoonfest!!!

I totally HEART everything about Cage!!!!

I’ve met Cage and Lake in the Jack & Jill series, back when they were young uns. Cage has my attention even then. Lake, well, she did too, but not always in a positive light. What can I say, the bratty sis role in some of the scenes got the best of me, but I got it, no biggie.

And now, it’s their moment to shine, and shine they did!

Lake cracks me up with her thoughts and lingo. I love her lack of filter, her vulnerability, her humor, her compassion and her strength.

Cage, now him, I can keep going! #SWOON One of the best grand gesture and proposal as far as I’m concerned! #SWOON He’s so grounded despite his status. He’s a total sweetheart. He’s funny. He’s thoughtful. He’s adorable in a manly way. And he’s sexy as hell.
"Give me you. Give me every tear. Give me every breath. Give me every fear. Give me every touch. Give me every smile. Give me every day."... "... give me forever. Give me the one thing I cannot live without..."... give me you."

I love how their relationship blossomed in the most endearing way. I’ve practically highlighted every sweet moments they have. It’s the stuff of fairy tale in a grounded way, if that makes sense. It’s like every Nicholas Sparks’ movies (I haven’t read any of his books) done the Jewel way. I can’t even fully explain how their story as a whole affected me. I felt the sincerity in every line. The lines grabbed me and just wrapped itself around me in an embrace. The emotions that flowed between Cage and Lake dug itself in my psyche and reminded me what good relationships are about- the highs, the lows, and the middle grounds that make it worth while and enriching.
"Don't forget to love me."
"Impossible."

I love how all the characters enhance the story, and I mean all the characters. Not sure how Jewel does it but each character is layered even when they’re just on the periphery. I love how I saw familiar names. I love how the new ones I was introduced to intrigued me (hint-hint).

Jewel is such a dynamic writer. From the first book of hers that I grabbed (Only Trick), it hit me that here’s an author who thinks outside the box. The nuances she imbues on her stories and characters guarantee you that each of her characters will bring something unique to the table and each of her stories will take you on a ride that you won’t quite expect. And I love her for that!

On a more personal note, I do have to thank Jewel as I read this during a short visit to the hospital and it was the perfect distraction that I needed. Mwah!

Now on to savor all these warm fuzzy feelings… and looking forward to reading the bonus epilogue:D

"My mouth said thank you, but my heart said I love you."

description

Jewel E Ann hits it out of the park again with One. This can be read as a standalone, but if you plan on ever reading the Jack & Jill series, you should read it before reading One because there are some spoilers.

Lake Jones lost a leg in a car accident, but that wasn't the worst part. She lost her love. She lived, and Ben died. While she was grieving, she met Cage when she was traveling with her brother. She couldn't give him any information about herself, but she comforted Cage while he was grieving the death of his father.

It was one moment. It was one lasting memory.

Years later, Lake moves to Minnesota to start a new life. She didn't know that Cage was Minnesota’s NFL starting quarterback because she doesn't follow football.

The story about Lake and Cage is refreshing, funny, and absolutely adorable. This wasn't a tear jerker, but it definitely gave me the feels. I can't wait to see what Jewel E. Ann cooks up next!
