There is no such thing as luck.

Roxy Kincaid isn’t a biker chick anymore. She’s made herself more than Jethro Winston’s castoff, and she’s never going back to her old life with the Iron Wraiths. But one summer night, a charming stranger threatens to sweep Roxy off her feet. Ignoring fate and their instant attraction, she has to get back to her real life in Green Valley. He couldn’t be the one that she wants when he’s exactly the thing that could ruin everything. If only she could stop thinking about him.

Luck is everything.

Sanders Olsson is going to fix his mistakes. He’s determined to show his best friend he’s a reliable business partner not the distracted flake he’s been lately. But he has to listen when the universe brings him a sign in the form of a guarded beauty he can’t keep his eyes off. Their instant connection is almost magical but she leaves without giving him even a last name. When fate gives Sanders a second chance in life and love, he sets out for Green Valley without a backward glance.

Their summer lovin’ happened so fast but what will it take to make it last?

Favorite Quotes:

“You’re a tough cookie, aren’t you?” I asked her and squeezed her hand. “Just ask the guy who told me to smile once,” she said. “You’ll have trouble though because his jaw is still wired shut.”

He was as hard to read as a French dictionary…

He smiled at me and I smiled back. A full smile. If it were a movie, the needle would scratch on a record and everything would go silent.

I finally let my smile drop because it was beginning to hurt and experience told me that it was getting that strained look that caused the elderly to scurry away.

It occurred to me in that this was one of the reasons why women go in pairs to the bathroom. I always thought it was just so they could discuss the deepest secrets of their mysterious sex. But they obviously had a more practical application for avoiding men who were waiting for drunk “easy targets” to break off from their friends.

My Review:

I enjoyed this book overall but I also struggled with it as the storylines were heavy with angst and conflict, which are not items on my Christmas list. Thankfully, there were also generous servings of snarky humor and sizzling sensual scenes that had me gasping. The writing was easy to follow and kept me curious despite character behaviors that had me grinding my teeth with the prickly push/pull.

Both main characters were beautiful piles of hot mess while loaded with inner turmoil and less than appealing traits. They were also emotionally scarred to the point of damage. RBF Roxy was the most difficult for me to warm up to as she was fatally insecure and on a constant boil of hostility and gave mixed messages yet was easily annoyed when others misunderstood. Roxy was unpredictable and edgy, which intrigued me, although she was also more than a bit tiresome. Sanders was her polar opposite and appeared blithely cheerful while childishly ignoring and denying his unresolved issues and personal pain. He was often reckless and irresponsible as he scurried away rather than deal with unpleasant yet necessary adulting. Yet both were driven, good people at heart, and working hard improve.

Damn! I hate pilling up books under DNF. I tried. I do love Penny Reid' world. Some of the authors who write the series are good.

The One That I Want does not work for me. I can not understand where the story goes nor the character chemistry. I listened to the audio book until 6th hour and finally just give up.

Anyway, moving on...

Ah, the Scorned Women's Society... I missed them. Piper Sheldon strikes again with a brand new retelling, this time with a gender-reversed Grease!

The One That I Want is the follow up to My Bare Lady and The Treble With Men (ps: go read them if you haven't already), and tells the story of Roxy Kincaid. After being Jethro Winston's old lady and riding with the Wraiths for some time, Roxy manages to leave that life behind with the help of her friend Gretchen. Years later and she is in a really good place, but, she still feels like she has so much to prove to herself and the people around her.

On a trip to Denver, she decides to go out and have fun for one night, and there she meets the gorgeous and fun Australian that is Sanders. He is immediately enamored with the mysterious brunette, but under his easy smiles and carefree facade, Sanders is hiding some secrets of his own. Together, they can be strong enough to heal and overcome their past, but of course, there are a few obstacles on their way.

For some reason, even though this is a beautiful and emotional story I just couldn't connect with Roxy and Sanders. Maybe it was the insta-love, maybe it was how the first 50% of the book was about their jobs and I wasn't really interested in that. Something was just off for me, and that's sad because I adore Piper Sheldon and the first two books of the series are five star reads to me.

Still, this was very well written and I just love being back in Green Valley with the SWS and all the amazing side characters. However, as a romance... I, unfortunately, wasn't too convinced. But, I can't want to read about Gretchen, she definitely deserves her HEA.

The One That I want (Scorned Women Society) by Piper Sheldon

‘“What’s the story with this one?” I whispered. “You told me that you would show them all. If ever there was a time…”

She hid her face into my chest.

“Are you ashamed of them?” I asked

She pulled back and gave me a look of defiance. “No. I’m not.”

I followed the line from her shoulder, down her arm, past her exposed, perfect breast and to her rib cage. I preened watching the skin prickle and hearing her soft sigh.

“I think they’re beautiful. I love that they’re a part of you. Everything about you is beautiful.”’

I’m not going to lie, I am the queen of instant gratification. I don’t like waiting for anything. People, book releases, dinner, the bus, the second season of Bridgerton. However, what I am coming to realise and truly appreciate is the artistry and finesse in a slow-burn love story. That build up, the to and fro, the denial, the inexplicable connection, the languid looks, the soft touches and the passion simmering constantly beneath every little conversation and glance. It’s poetry. Creating so much meaning and emotion behind those minute details. Author Piper Sheldon has once again created an exquisitely emotive, truly impressive, standout slow-burn romance with her third Scorned Women book.

The One That I Want is not only a role reversal testament to the brilliance of the musical Grease, it is also its own unique shrine of sighs, seduction and healing - a beautifully written and developed love story, that takes the slow-burn concept and gives it heat, style and heart. It is’t as flamboyant as her previous book, rather this one has a more subtle but no less breathtaking and daring storyline. It’s sweet, sensual, reflective and so utterly magnificent. I love that all of these books each have their own distinctive personalities. None of these stories are even remotely the same. The tone, the dialogue, and writing, is all so diverse and remarkable.

Now, I tend to talk about the heroes first in most of my reviews but I’m going in with our SWS tattooed, hard-working, intelligent, misunderstood sweetheart, Roxy Kincaid. This girl is cloaked in layers. The hurt and bad choices of her past are palpable things in her life. Every choice, every decision, it all boils down to how she still thinks others view her and ultimately how she views herself. She is incredible. There is a quietness to her, she’s profound yet subtle in it. Like she tries to subdue her personality behind her work ethic and business suits, yet underneath she is bursting with colour and dance. It just takes one Summer night to entice those things out of her. Roxy is inspirational, she’s dynamic, independent and beautiful to boot. Another strong female character to add to the dazzling SWS team.

Sanders Olsson. Our hero. Now, here is a man who wears his heart on his sleeve. He says what he thinks. He feels what he feels and has no compunction to deny any of it. I can honestly say I haven’t met a hero like him in such a long time. He’s so open and honest, at least about matters that aren’t about himself and the secret pain he harbours. He is vibrant, impetuous and a little outrageous, with a sexy smirk and an Australian accent to entice. I just thought he was marvelous. His positivity, smile and perseverance in all things made him a rather delicious male protagonist. His sunshine personality was such a different approach in comparison to the stoic, surly, bad tempered heroes I’ve been handed lately. Not that there's anything wrong with those types of heroes but Sanders brought light, humour and a little exhilaration to the plot. Not to mention abs for daaaays.

The One That I Want definitely showcases author Piper Sheldon’s talent for peeling back her characters, exposing all their flaws to readers, along with the characters’ hopes and dreams, what makes them think and feel and react. With this resplendent love story she gives readers that and more.

Show of hands, who was humming the tune You’re The One That I Want while writing their review? *looks around* okay, so just me. LIES! LOL No, this is not a retelling of any sort of the movie Grease but there are a few plot points that you just can’t help but think of the movie over; combine that with the title and here we are, humming :) and I love it! This story gave me happy vibes and happy chills! (and they might have multiplied lolololol (sorry, I’ll stop now))

PSA: It is my humble opinion that you should read this series from the beginning. Technically, each book can stand on its own, but the Scorned Women’s Society are a group of women born from a shared circumstance in their past; they’re all Jethro Winston’s ex-girlfriends. They are a click. They stick together and are there for each other in all the ways. They are in each other’s lives, therefor each other’s stories so … do with that info what you will.

Now, about this incredibly poignant story full of heart and hope. A slow-burn journey sexier and more passionate than any other I have read in quite some time. The interactions between Roxy and Sanders as they navigate their journey made my heart soar. They both have their own history and personal baggage to navigate in order to move forward with each other and it is because of each other that they are able to move forward. Two pieces of a puzzle that perfectly fit. One without the other would be an incomplete puzzle. GAH, I loved every moment of this story. I wanted to me in it and I wanted them as part of my life!

Sidebar: These covers are a thing of beauty and I hope against hope that Piper doesn't decide to change them one day! #winning

The concept for this series continues to be sooo cute. Here’s another one (loosely) inspired by a musical — Grease this time!!

Roxy has always seemed like a total badass in the previous books. In this book, I saw both her tough and gentle sides. She turned her life around and is constantly trying to prove she deserves a promotion at work. Sanders is one of those characters that seem like the sunshine type but is actually keeping his burdens to himself. His growth in this book is A+!!

Their first meeting is so cute. Their chemistry! Roxy back for her own reasons! Sanders being respectful and not pushing her! They end the night in such a cute way but as fate would have it, they meet again because of their work.

Roxy is working at Donner Lodge (yes, THE Donner as in Jennifer Winston’s mom) while Sanders is working for Outside the Box, a company that Roxy had met up with at a convention in Denver.

The romance is sweet and kind of a slow-burn? They have cute moments all throughout but Roxy is holding back and Sanders doesn’t pressure her. Sanders also has his own things to work through.

"I could almost feel her opening up to me. Like a tight new bud of spring just barely starting to bloom. I would be gentle and patient. I would not crush her. I could be the sunshine that coaxes her to reveal herself."

The ending is especially sweet especially after seeing the growth they went through.

I always love traveling back to Green Valley and Piper Sheldon’s SWS has been my favorite in the Smartypants universe. It was great to reconnect with the Scorned Women’s Society. I was so excited when I heard this was a modern re-telling of Grease with a role reversal. The One That I Want features Roxy Kincaid, another ex of Jethro’s that rebuilt her life and is now helping to run the hotel. On a work trip to Denver, she lets loose one night and ends up meeting Sanders, a handsome Autralian. Their connection was instant but fleeting and Roxy never expected to see him again until he shows up at her hotel assigned to help her launch a retreat. Can the two of them overcome their darker past to forge a relationship in the future?

While the writing was great in this third installment, I didn’t feel the same connection that I did with My Bare Lady and The Treble With Men. I think this is more related to my dislike of insta love stories more than it is about the book itself. Overall, this was a 3.5 star read for me but I still can’t wait for Piper’s next book! Gretchen is a favorite of mine so I will be counting down to that release!

“Roxy, The Beautiful Woman Who Stole My Heart On the Dance Floor. But I suppose I could shorten it to just Roxy. Roxy and Sanders. Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?”

3.75/5

I'm still wondering why it took me so long to start the Scorned Women's Society series because it has definitely become my favorite Smartypants Romance releases, and The One That I Want proves it once again.

The way Roxy's story was teased in the previous book made me want to know more about her and I can now say that she is my favorite. She truly is an incredible, inspiring and determined woman who deserves all the happiness in the world. I'm glad she found it with the SWS and Sanders. On the other hand, Sanders is a sweetheart and honest man who wears his heart on his sleeves. And although his impulsiveness frustrated me at the beginning of the story, he was an awesome character! The first meeting between Roxy and Sanders was very steamy and the mutual attraction was instant, but I like the fact that their relationship was a slow burn. Their feelings for each other were growing, but they weren't fully ready and had to figure things out before committing to each other. In the meantime, they spent more time together and became friends, but the spark of angst was never far away. Roxy and Sanders had a ton of sweet moments and it was so cute to see them fall in love.

Overall, The One That I Want was another hit for Piper Sheldon, I love this series, the SWS and their friendship so much and I can't wait for Gretchen's story!!

Yay Piper!! You did it again! I loved how you showed the depth of feeling in Sanders and his struggles with loss. I also loved reading about the strengths and weaknesses in both him and Roxie! You showed us that we can be broken in some places and still be strong and still love and be loved!

Good lord the feels...THE FEELS!!!!! This book’s got’em. Piper Sheldon has become the master of peeling away at life to get down to the root of human emotion. This book was not what I was expecting, and I mean that in the best way. No spoilers, but make sure you give yourself a big chunk of time for this book because you won’t want to put it down once you start!

Piper Sheldon has created another musical turned Scorned Women's Society book that takes everything I love about musicals and molds it into this wonderful book that you just can't help enjoying.

Piper's recreation of the musical Grease really embodies the conundrum of Roxy. As with all of the women in the SWS, she's moving on from her past with Jethro Winston. Roxy tries so hard not to be the person she was during that time in her life. Not because of her own desires, but she doesn't want to let her friend Gretchen down. She has so much life, color, and brightness to her, I'm so glad she has the growth with Sanders, and the SWS to find her true self.

One of the best things about this book is the time. Piper allowed her characters to grow together, while they were apart. This book definitely falls into the Sunshine and Grump trope, but switched from how we usually see the characters. Roxy is definitely more of the Grump and Sanders is pure outgoing happy go lucky sunshine. But underneath that sunshine there is so much depth, hurt, and grief.

The SWS is back and I couldn't be happier. You'd think being one of Jethro Winston's exes would be a tough gig, but these ladies have each others' backs and they are 100% there when advice is needed and tears need to be wiped. Sure, sure, there might be a few bumps along the way between the ladies, but they show up when things get dicey and I am so here for that.

This time around it's Roxy finding her groove. The tough, take no nonsense lady who doesn't often let anyone close. FOR REASONS. Well, mostly because she doesn't want to fall back into the destructive behavior she engaged in with the Wraiths. Which is honestly an excellent reason all around. Full stop. She's also a bit of a control freak who carefully guards her heart and her friendships. By that, I mean she doesn't let people close very often, but when she does, she's fiercely loyal. (As are all the SWSs, aren't they?)

Roxy's other half is Sanders. Let's just say he's Roxy's opposite in a lot of ways. At least on the surface. He's cheerful and outgoing and a bit of an adrenaline junkie. He's also 100% sure Roxy is his person pretty much the moment he sets eyes on her. Which causes a bit of friction between them because Roxy isn't the type to leap without looking anymore and she needs a slower approach. Something which Sanders has a hard time with, tbh.

No worries, though, they eventually figure things out. After much soul searching by both parties. And much quality time spent between the sheets. And both of them finding a balance they almost didn't know they needed. Look, they have a lot of things to work through, okay? But they get there. And one more SWS member finds her happy place.

“You exist and therefore are worthy of being loved.”

One of the best aspects of SmartyPants Romance is the exposure to so many new authors. Among the young authors imagining fantastic new characters and stories in Penny Reid’s universe is Piper Sheldon, who demonstrates her strengths as a writer with each new book she pens.

Sheldon is responsible for the Scorned Women’s Society, a series of books based on the ex-girlfriends of Jethro Winston (Grin and Beard it by Penny Reid.) As readers learn in this series, Jethro may have been a modern-day rake, but he had excellent taste in women. In this series, some of his former flames have banded together to form the ultimate girl squad. They have each other’s backs. Their squad and its friendships are integral to each story. This is just as true for Roxy’s story as it was for Suzie’s (My Bare Lady) and Kim’s (The Treble with Men.)

While friendships play a pivotal role in this story, the primary focus is undoubtedly the romance between Roxy and Sanders, two imperfect people who find themselves falling in love as they work to overcome their pasts. This story is emotional at times, with elements of loss and grief. However, readers will also find themselves with giant, cheeses smiles plastered across their faces as they read.

While I would not consider ‘The One That I Want’ a retelling of ‘Grease,’ it’s easy to see how the musical inspired several scenes in the book. Those scenes definitely produced some of those cheesy smiles I mentioned.

Sheldon writes characters you just want to be friends with and/or with whom you can’t help but fall in love. However, one of my favorite things about this book is the theme that you are worthy of love simply by existing. You don’t have to be anything other than who and what you are to deserve love.

I couldn’t put this book down!

”It was rare for me to make eye contact with someone and react so physically.”

Roxanne AKA Roxy Kincaid has a RBF that rivals no other. She is the queen of sending out unapproachable signals. So when her eye meets with that of a gorgeous stranger across a crowded nightclub in Denver, she’s surprised by her reaction to him. After one dirty dance, one hot make-out session, one freak-out, and one evening of getting to know each other without sharing the finer details, Roxy knows that she likes him but also knows that there’s no future for them, as they don’t even live in the same city. Not to mention that he seems the complete opposite of her and what normally attracts her. He’s open and smiling while she’s closed off and frowning.

”My Roxy. I’d never felt instant possession like this. Not ownership of her, nothing close to that. She owned me.”

Sanders Olsson has had the day from hell but his evening with Roxy completely turns it around. He’s not willing to let her go but has no choice when she insists. When he finds out that there is a way to get to know her, he grabs it with both hands and takes the first flight out to track her down in Green Valley. However, Roxy isn’t as welcoming as he’d hoped, so he’s got his job cut out for him in convincing her to give them a chance. Soon, he realises that their physical obstacles are nothing compared to the emotional ones that they need to overcome.

”You see me more clearly than anybody ever has.”

This was such a fabulous read! I couldn’t put it down. I was so caught up in Roxy and Sanders as they danced around each other. Roxy is so skittish yet she wants him pretty bad. He is so keen on her but prepared to exercise patience, if it meant that he had the slightest chance. They both had a discombobulating effect on the other. They were electric together, as well as tender. Roxy had a lot of emotional baggage to overcome. She was a woman who was finding herself and wanted to be recognised for more than her past transgressions. Sanders was running from his own emotional issues. His sunny personality hid the guilt and grief that were his constant companions. This story was entertaining yet poignant, and I thought the ending was kinda corny but beautiful!

The storyline in The One That I Want, just like that little movie called Grease, was a great reminder that you don’t have to be anything other than yourself for people to love you.

I loved Grease (and I can even find things about Grease 2 to like) so I loved all the little nods to the movies and some of the similarities in the stories. And the not so little ones, too. Like the gender swapping Grease scene of the hot dude pretending to be cool in leather pants - I can definitely get behind that visual!

But the story was way more than a homage to all things Grease. We get inside the head of Roxy, the prickliest girl in the Scorned Women’s Society (SWS), and she definitely has some baggage. Roxy spends a lot of energy trying to earn respectability and her place in the business world after making some bad choices early in her life.

A business trip to Denver (I live there!) and away from the prying eyes of her small town gives Roxy a chance to be herself and meet Sanders. Sanders, too, is one to put on a pretty facade. In his case, it’s a class clown, adrenaline-junkie persona to cover up ALL THE FEELINGS.

It is both fun and enlightening to experience these two growing both together and separately. I just love how Sanders is just all in with Roxy and just has to contain himself so she can catch up. The addition of some wonderful side characters just adds to the journey. Anyone else feeling Skip and Jack?

This story runs concurrently with Treble with Men, but can totally be read as a stand-alone. But I will say that if you know Kim’s story it does make you feel like you have special insights into a few story details. And for a society of scorned women all dumped by Jethro, it’s funny how he keeps coming up as kind of a hero.

Available on KU now so get at it!! Seriously, don’t wait!!

****************

I really liked the first two books of this series, also written by Piper Sheldon, and this one is no exception to the rule... In addition it's a Grease retell, reversing the roles (Sandy = Sanders and Danny = Roxy), the only thing missing are musical numbers ! The two heroes are very endearing, they have difficult things to overcome but we never fall into too much drama.

It all started one summer night, after a professional seminar in another city, Roxy decides to spend her last night relaxing in a bar. As she dances, her gaze catches Sanders' eyes across the room. A languid dance follows, it's electrifying between them, hot kisses happen. But it goes no further, Roxy prefers to enjoy the cool night and to walk around while chatting with Sanders, but no talk about personal matters. It is the beautiful meeting between 2 strangers.

A happy coincidence makes Sanders learn who Roxy is. Their respective companies met at this convention and wish to work together. Sanders therefore takes the place of his partner to go to Green Valley for business, but hey it's also to see Roxy again ... Except that his impromptu visit will not necessarily go as planned...

At first glance, Sanders looks like a golden retriever puppy : cute and adorable, running around squealing. But that enthusiastic, extra-positive exterior obviously hides a great pain and, without wanting to spoil it, his way of dealing with it is so consistent, it's something that could happen to anyone, and that makes his character so endearing.

Roxy sends back a very serious image of herself, I wouldn't go so far as to say austere, but in her attitude she stays in her bubble with a few exceptions of her friends from the SWS who know her story. Her past in the Wraith is eating her away and she is determined to prove that she deserves her job and even the friendship of others... She allows herself very little let go, the last time was with the handsome stranger and again, she almost fell back into her old habits, intolerable ! So when the handsome stranger arrives in her town, her whole well-controlled environment slowly collapses.

The romance between these two goes slowly, even if we feel the electricity between them, Piper Sheldon writes us two heroes with very different vision who show each other their internal conflict, but will not use their love story to save themselves (obviously one will make the decision and the other will "suffer" it), before being happy together, each will learn to be happy with himself / herself.

I am loving these scorned women and their unique way of coming together after falling for the same man. It is now Roxy's chance at forever but she first needs to leave her biker gal past where it should be, in the past. She has made a name for herself and proved her talent and abilities ten fold at the resort she works at. She wears many hats and wears them well. While on a company retreat she meets quite a wonderful man. It is not the right time for her to try for a relationship she needs to work and focus on her and her professional life but Sanders will not make it easy.
When Sanders meets the most intriguing woman at the club on the dance floor he can't believe how carefree and what a beautiful spirit she has. After a night of talking they part ways but fate and a bit of digging places Sanders front and center with Roxy. Now it is time to really figure out where this is going and how they will get there. It is Sanders chance to show this beautiful, sassy stubborn woman that she is the one that he wants.

These books just keep getting better. With every couple I think that I can’t love the next one and then Piper Sheldon writes more and I am obsessed.
Roxy thinks she isn’t deserving of happiness and Sanders has his own issues too but when these two get together their chemistry is off the charts. I have read all of the Smartypants Romance books so far but the Scorned Women Society is probably my favorite group of women supporting women ever. I just cannot wait to read more in this series and more from this author.

Piper Sheldon has become one of my favorite "new to me" author discoveries of the past couple of years. I swear, everything this woman touches turns to gold, and this Grease inspired addition to the Scorned Women's Society series is no exception!

There's not a lot I can say about the story without getting spoilery, so I'm going to let the blurb speak for itself in that regard.

Roxy and Sanders are such wonderfully complex characters. Determined to prove herself worthy to her friends and the small town of Green Valley, Roxy hides her colorful, lively, vivacious self behind an in-control, buttoned up business persona. Meanwhile, Sanders conceals pain and grief behind the mask of a carefree, impulsive, happy go lucky guy. This book perfectly balances some emotional individual storylines for Sanders and Roxy with a sweet, heartwarming romance. It also includes plenty of humor to off-set the heavier moments, and everything comes together to really drive home the message that everyone is "worthy" and deserving of love just as we are - flaws and all. The side characters were especially great in this one - we get to see more of Gretchen and Jack (from prior books), and Sanders' friend Skip was an intriguing side character as well. Fingers and toes crossed that all of them will get their stories told down the line.

Also, as someone who had memorized the entire Grease soundtrack YEARS before I understood anything about the plot of the movie, I REALLY appreciated all of the little references to the movie/musical throughout the book. They were fun and cheesy and totally grin inducing. The One That I Want brought on a few tears, a lot of laughs, and was really just a good time from start to finish.

I have loved each book in the Scorned Women Society series. Piper Sheldon has once again crafted a wonderful, engaging story. I love how unique each book is, but they still feel like a cohesive series.

Roxy and Sanders are strong characters each needing to move forward in life. Their instant connection at a conference turns into much more when he goes to Green Valley. As their relationship developed and we learn more about who they are, I felt like they were relatable and not flat or one dimensional.

I also enjoyed that the story has hints of the movie/musical Grease but with the genders reversed. The way that each book in the series relates to a musical is so fun!

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½

In the 3rd installment of the "Scorned Women Society" series, author Piper Sheldon brings us a unique take on "Grease" (very loosely referenced). We have Sanders & Roxy who's meet-cute is a bit naughtier than nice, but the impression that each leaves on the other is quite memorable. When they meet again in Green Valley, Roxy is determined to not let her focus drift and to finally earn her place at her job in the Lodge and to shirk off the demons and reputation from her past. Sanders, is there visiting and trying to incorporate his company into this new opportunity, that just happens to tie his success to Roxy's.

The attraction is undeniable and the bagage is REAL for both of them. They each are able to help the other by using their own pain to motivate change within and for the other. With help from new and old friends, we have a HEA and catharsis that leaves us smiling & satisfied.

This is definitely a stand-alone, but it does add to the story & enjoyment to have knowlege of the first 2 books, especially the 2nd. There are some nice inside jokes and little easter-eggs for fans of this series. I have enjoyed each of them in their own right. I just adore Piper's writing and sense of humor. She knows how to write angst & conflict without any stupidity or frustration. I also appreciated how unique each woman's story is from the rest in the series. This is an absolute recommend and I CAN NOT WAIT to read the rest of the women's narratives. Wonderful story, loveable characters, and an addictative romance.

All of the books in this series are inspired by a well known story. The One That I Want is a bit of a retelling of Grease but with a role reversal.

“I just didn’t want to make something more of one summer night. It happened so fast and it’s over now.”

Former biker chick, Roxy needs to prove that she is ready to be promoted and take more responsibility at work. She lets her guard down for one night and shows her real self to a sexy Australian stranger.
Sanders feels immediate electricity and connection to this beautiful woman. He does everything in his power to chase her down but finds a very different Roxy in Green Valley.

“I stood there staring after her for longer than I cared to admit, hoping she’d come running out. But she never did. Whatever held her back was bigger than our instant connection.”

I loved this story. Roxy and Sanders both struggled to bury their pasts but really had to learn how to allow the past to just be in order to move forward.

“What I wouldn’t give to struggle through anything and everything with you at my side.”

The nods to Grease were so entertaining. I was singing the whole soundtrack by the time the book ended.

Following My bare lady, The one that I want is the third instalment in The Scorned women’s society series.
I was looking forward to read it as I was interested in Roxy and what’s to come for her love life.
I must admit that I haven’t seen Grease and I know that many have been comparing this book with the movie. But I usually like to go blind Into my stories because I need to feel for myself all the emotions and interesting characters.
I liked Roxy quite a lot and the fact that she wants a life for herself without being attached to anyone was a plus in my cards .
Now Sanders was a sweet loving guy even if his exterior will tell you something else.
Their love grew up on me between the banter and the feelings, the side characters and all the decisions that each one had to make throughout the story.
Another great story in the Green Valley world that I enjoyed a lot.
