I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

This book tells you how to pick a title for your book that will stand out from the pack yet be easily found on Amazon and goodreads.

Very helpful for authors, but there's too much advertising for the writer of the book's services. Every chapter seems excessive.

Did you know choosing a book title for your book is just as important as having an eye-catching book cover? Scott Lorenz is a renowned publicist in the industry and wants to share his knowledge with writers and authors. He lays the groundwork for choosing not only the best title for your book but how to use SEO and keywords to reach the masses. Are you ready to take the next step and reach new heights?

Book Title Generator is a hands-on approach to finding the right title for your book. I enjoyed reading the book and found some new tips to make titles shoot to the top of certain online retailers' algorithms. Scott Lorenz has been representing bestselling authors for thirty years and many of them share valuable points to consider when choosing your title. I believe this is a valuable resource to writers and authors, especially those starting out in the industry. What I found lacking was actual applications to choosing the best title. I guess Scott Lorenz wants writers/authors to seek out his services instead. Overall, a solid book for the writing community. If you're looking for new ways to propel your books to the bestselling charts, pick up Book Title Generator. If you're a new writer looking to nail your debut, you'll want to read Book Title Generator.

Disclaimer: I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

This poor soul of a book has been languishing on my TBR pile and I figured it's simply time to allow it to give up the ghost and go to book heaven. Clearly the information didn't actually grab ahold of my throat and give me a little shake. What I did read, I don't actually remember.

But that is me, folks! Don't blame the author.

The truth is I am horrible at reading non-fiction. Most days I'd rather staple my head to the carpet than crack open any pages that aren't taking me away to a different world, hence the 2 stars. If you're in the throes of feeling like you must title your next manuscript, you should still give this book a whirl.

How to make your book’s title stand out from the crowd.

The author of this book, Scott Lorenz, is the owner of Westwind Communications a successful book marketing company which has, over the years helped authors realize their dreams and catapulted their books into the eyes of the public. His vast experience in this field has given him unique insights into many aspects of book realization and marketing, and in this compact book, he shares these gems with his readers.

We all know the well-known phrase, “to judge a book by its cover,” however, first you have to find the book, and it is by the title that this is achieved. Search boxes are brilliant however, it is what you put into them which matters, and it is by understanding the types of keywords you should (or shouldn’t) use in your title, that you will get your book seen by your target audience. The importance of an eye-catching title cannot be overemphasized.

Therefore “How to Title Your Book” is one book every author should read, even if your book is already published, title changes are possible, and with the knowledge, you will acquire within these pages you will discover that a clever author doesn’t just come up with a title, they take advantage of examples out there from well-known authors, and do thorough research first.

However, the really smart author, or would-be author, will take advantage of this book, because within its pages are all the information you will need, complete with examples, crafty tips and many more things most authors just don’t consider. From lengths of titles and subtitles to alliteration, the use of numbers, and pen names, a myriad of topics are discussed. In each section, the advantages and disadvantages are clearly explained, and the impact they could have, which enable you to make informed decisions, and give your book the best chance it can have of standing out.

In conclusion, this enlightening book is, in my opinion, essential reading for authors. As author’s, we are not only extremely proud of our work, but we also want it to be read by our target audience. Let’s be honest we want to sell a lot of our books, for many reasons, fantasy author’s I am sure (even if it is in secret,) dream of becoming the next J. K. Rowling, and many children’s book authors who love animals fantasize that Disney will want to make a film of their book, I know I do. Whatever your reason for writing your book, you owe it to yourself to give it the best chance it can have to shine, and this book will help you achieve this.

A Name By Any Other Rose

Coming up with the perfect title for a book is no easy task. Selling books is all about cutting through the fog of competition to get people to take a look at your work, and the words on that book cover can often be your most powerful tool. You have a lot at stake.

“Book Title Generator,” a timely and important new book by publicist Scott Lorenz, helps you tackle the job. Written with characteristic no-nonsense clarity, Lorenz boils down all the key points any 21st century author needs to consider in coming up with a book title, from search engine key words to acknowledging the short attention span of the 21st century shopper.

The book cites numerous specific examples of books that have made good use of every technique in his box of tools. Lorenz mentions the book “Banjos, Boats & Butt Dialing” as an example of using alliteration and clever word play to create a title people would remember. He’s probably right; I wrote that book, and it was an Amazon #1 Bestseller.

Scott Lorenz is well known in the publishing world for his clear-headed approach to helping authors find success with their work. I’m sure that over the years he has seen some good books with bad titles fall short. In “Book Title Generator” Lorenz shows that he thoroughly understands just what it takes to turn a reader’s head, and he has decided to share that knowledge with the rest of us. If you are an author, experienced or aspiring, you need to read this book.

I wasn't expecting this book to be so short. Or so repetitive. There really was some good information, though, and many compiled resources to help writers. I guess my review will be kinda like this book...short.

I received a free digital copy of this book from a Goodreads giveaway. This review is my own honest and unbiased opinion.

The book title works with the cover to create first impressions. If the author doesn't get the title or the cover right, sales will suffer. I'm a book editor, and my services include helping authors choose just the right title for their books. Because I only edit nonfiction, my authors can tinker with longer subtitles and carefully choose keywords for SEO, as this author suggests. Too many authors don't do the homework on comparable books in the genre. It's essential. Lorenz gives a ton of pointers about the types of titles (using a number, a swear word, alliteration, X about Y, and others), and I intend to use his formula from now on. (I would have liked some discussion on poor titles and why they don't work just for comparison.) The best advice, and I fully agree, is that the five title words (average number of words in a title, both fiction and nonfiction) are the toughest part of a book to write.

‘Your title is the first barrier to a sales conversion’

Book marketer/publicist Scott Lorenz is very highly regarded in the literary world because of his gift for sailing books from birth to bestseller - a guide with a roadmap to success for many contemporary authors. One of the many reasons he is successful is his ability to offer wise counsel in a manner that mirrors a conversation with a best friend. He now has written a book that more than likely will become a staple in the armamentarium of all writers, both new and experienced, a book that succinctly and professionally advises authors about the importance of choosing a book’s title.

A trait that suffuses Scott’s writing is his wry sense of humor, a quality that keeps the impact of his advice comfortably accessible. He finds key words to underline his message – words like ‘discoverability’ – that keep the reader focused on the mission of his lesson. And of course, as the expert, he states it best: ‘The book you are reading now is the definitive guide to understanding what makes an effective book title. Over the following pages, I will discuss specific areas and methods that employed properly will help draw attention to your book, giving it the broadest possible audience, converted into the only bottom line that really matters: sales.’ Roadmap established, and the book is launched.

Each chapter is introduced with a quote from very well known literary figures, a wise backup for his topic being addressed. The contents of the book cover the importance of the following thoughts – correct keywords (very important in securing search engine discoverability on Amazon, Google, etc), wisely using the most possible space for the title (something that will fit on a thumbnail on a cell phone!), mastering the use of emotional words, using alliteration and poetry, numbers/alliterations/idioms, utilizing a series title, the use of Pen names (how and why and if), genre mash-ups/parody/contradictions, and the new impact of the use of profanity. Each of these topics is discussed with Scott’s droll humor.

The book is brief but packed full of key advice on creating the right title for a book that is critical to success. This is an indispensible, first rate adjunct to the art of writing – and selling- your book. The goal: discoverability! Very highly recommended.

Before you title that book, read this one!!!

Scott Lorenz, book publicist and president of Westwind Communications, offers an industry insider's insights into "the tricks for titling your book in such a way that it stands out from the competition." With forty years of marketing experience, Lorenz examines all the angles that need to be considered when naming your masterpiece. Book Title Generator is the straight forward and informative guide all authors should consult before choosing their title.

It’s not just enough to pick a title that you like or that you think fits your work. Your title is more than just a mere placeholder, it can become a powerful workhorse in its own right, increasing the discoverability of your work and “forcing (prospective readers).to take notice of you and your message.” Every word of your title must be chosen with care and Book Title Generator provides a proven system for doing just that. Lorenz explores everything from the factors that will make your book easier to find in the online world, to use of evocative and emotional language, how and when to use a pen name, thinking ahead to future branding and marketing opportunities, and even the use of profanity in book titles.

This concise and practical guidebook is a fast, informative, and fun read. As a bit of a book title nerd, I was thrilled that Lorenz includes so many stellar examples of well-known works to illustrate each concept. At one point I even had a specific favorite title in mind, and it was included in the next chapter! While Book Title Generator is targeted toward authors, it is easy to see how it could be utilized in a classroom setting as an example of practical application of marketing and literature concepts. Highly recommend this essential and helpful tool!

As an author, I am always on the lookout for a book that propels me forward as a writer and helps me sell more books. Book Title Generator does both! This exceptional book should be in the library of every writer!

Part marketing book, and part how-to guide for authors, this book combine’s Scott Lorenz’s three decades of experience in marketing with his intimate knowledge of the publishing world to offer a one-of-a-kind guide to naming your book.

While the saying goes “You can’t judge a book by its cover,” we all know that we do. The cover is the first thing readers see, and the title should not only tell them what the book is about, but offer them a gem of inspiration for why they want to read it. Does the book entertain? Does it inform? What is the genre? Lorenz offers ways to sell what’s inside.

Lorenz also talks about certain traits that can raise your book up in the ranks, such as why numbers are often important in a title, and how to use keywords to increase reach in search engines.
He says: Without a powerful title, your book, however well-written it might be, is destined to fall behind the competition. What makes one title outperform another in the terms of clicks, likes, and sales is oft-misunderstood.
Lorenz, publicist and president of Westwind Communications, is no stranger to the book world. Having spent decades helping authors market their books onto top bestseller lists such as USA TODAY, Wall Street Journal, and Amazon, he knows what works and what doesn’t.

Pick up your copy today and transform your book from ordinary to extraordinary. Highly Recommended.

Writing a book is hard, but coming up with an effective title is harder. As a writer, I've found myself stuck too many times in that title limbo. How can I boil my 70,000+ word book down to just a few words? Even if I think of something, can it actually grab readers' attentions?

In Book Title Generator, Lorenz draws on his multiple decades of experience in the book business to help authors understand the ins-and-outs of today's book industry, and how a title can effect your sales. Through prose ripe with wit and humor, he analyzes the effectiveness of bestselling titles, explains the importance of SEO and keywords, and even delves into how using profanity in the right setting can help your sales.

I found Book Title Generator to be a fun, quick read that opened my eyes to how important a title truly is. I highly recommend this book to all aspiring and established authors, even if you think you already know your way around a title.

Lorenz write in a clear, easy to follow format. He hits on all the most important aspects of making a book a success in the market. He offers practical suggestions, but more importantly shares links with the reader exactly where to find the information.

I particularly enjoyed his analysis on the effectiveness of idioms, alliteration, and metaphors in developing effective book titles. In addition I learned a few new tips on how to discover the most effective keywords. Lorenz shows readers how to appeal to the prospective reader's emotions in ways I hadn't thought of before reading this book.

All in all, I would recommend the book to both new and experienced authors. It is a good addition to my marketing reference library.

There are endless books out there on how to write a book. As an author contemplating my next book, I was eager to read Book Title Generator which focuses on how to pick a title. I’ve long admired Scott Lorenz’s success as President of Westwind Communications for 30+ years. There is no better publicist to offer advice on why books fail or succeed.

Book Title Generator is a thoughtful, easy read that is perfect for the office or the beach. The cover examples throughout are helpful to clarify his points. Before you name your first or next book, read this. It is truly one of a kind, just like Scott’s entrepreneurial background advising authors.

The author has the pedigree of being a book publicist and the president of a PR and Marketing firm. His credentials would lead a reader to believe if anyone knows this stuff, it would be him. Ironically enough, the title of this book offered a promise to me that got me to click purchase. Good job Mr. Lorenz.

The thing with promises though, they need to be fulfilled. This book is extremely thin on any new details when it comes to deciding on a title that works. Anything in here, can be found on Google for free. There's no system detailed, just a litany of other book title examples. Something this reader found disappointing.

Scott Lorenz is a book publicist. Here's a man who practices what he preaches. Very clever, this little book. Some might think it a written infomercial. I imagine it works well to generate business for his firm.

The book delivers on describing how titles matter in drawing readers and optimizing their appearance on the search engines we all use to find books (Goodreads and Amazon included). Each chapter delivers a little gem of advice with examples and even book cover pictures to illustrate. Then each of these succinct chapters ends with a pitch for his firm for further assistance.

The audience for the book is clear: authors, ones in the process of writing, others in the throes of trying to draw eyes to their already-published books, and wannabe authors who think this advice may be useful just in case. (I wonder how many people start with a title, then try to create the book that goes with it....)

Lorenz even touches on pen names and why authors might want to use them. (I never thought I'd use one until I discovered how many published authors already share my name!)

At 94 pages, this is a book that can be read in one sitting, and though Lorenz's aim is to generate name recognition for himself and business for his company, he does provide some concrete advice a writer could digest and start to use right away. This is where the cleverness come in: a writer may get going--write that book, create a snappy, eye-catching title, then start to think about how and where to publish, cover art, and if self-publishing, how to distribute. Lots of questions there! Now where might she turn? Oh, yeah!

I received this book in a Goodreads Giveaway, and thank the author for a copy.

For a self proclaimed marketing genius, Scott Lorenz doesn't know much about marketing. The entire book is basically a 80 page advert for his business. He ends every chapter with shameless promotion for his business. Scott Lorenz comes across as a shady used car salesmen screaming "Rocktober mega sale going on NOOOOOW!!!!! BUY!!! BUY!!! BUY!!! GIVE ME MONEY!!!!". These days, marketing is much more subtle. People do not like promotions being shoved in their face. The "in your face" approach to marketing is outdated and will actually hurt sales. It's obvious Scott Lorenz has NO real marketing experience. His website looks extremely outdated like something from 2010. Even his entire GoodReads profile is an advertisement for his business. He comes across as shady and extremely desperate for new customers. People who stoop to shameless self promotion, often have very few customers which explains why they act so desperate.

I can guarantee you that no best selling author or major publisher will take this guy seriously.

I’ve been stuck on titling my nonfiction book for months. Every idea I had felt flat, or worse, forgettable. This book was recommended by a friend in my writers’ group, and I went into it slightly skeptical marketing books often talk in circles.

But Scott Lorenz writes like someone who’s sat in the trenches with hundreds of anxious authors. His chapters are full of short, sharp nuggets like why alliteration isn’t cheesy when done right, or why certain words almost instantly trigger curiosity. I found myself nodding along when he talked about idioms. It made me realize that people love familiarity, even when they’re after something new.

One of my favorite parts was the section on keyword research. I hadn’t thought of treating my book title like a mini search engine ad, but it makes perfect sense. Since finishing, I’ve already signed up for a keyword tool he suggested and started testing out phrases.

This book doesn’t just throw ideas at you it actually makes you excited to play around with titles. Which, considering how much I dreaded it before, feels like a minor miracle.
