Corsairs: Adiron

Rate this book
It’s not easy being a space pirate…

Actually, wait.

Yes it is. It’s keffing awesome.

The three va Sithai brothers — that’s us — cruise the universe looking for abandoned ships, treasure, and other pirate ships to rob. Right now, we’re on the hunt for the Buoyant Star, an abandoned cruiser rumored to have a massive treasure inside. The ship’s been found at the edge of an ice field at the far reaches of space.

That treasure? About to be all ours.

But the ship's not all that abandoned. The Star is crewed by a few lonely, attractive human females who are thoroughly grateful at being rescued…

Actually, wait.

They’re not grateful at all.

They’ve set us a trap, and their leader, a beautiful human female named Jade, gives me a smile just before she captures me.

It’s official. I’m in love.

Ruby Dixon is an author of Science Fiction Romance. She likes fated mates, baby-filled epilogues, and cinnamon roll heroes. She also likes to write biographies of herself in the third person, because it feels more important that way.

Yay a new series by my favorite Alien smut author Ruby Dixon. My God her books just do it for me. They are all just so fun and enjoyable. These big blue loveable aliens are like crack to me I always want more. I have wanted Adiron, Kaspar, and Mathiras' book since Zoey's love story. I loved Adiron and Jade. They were very cute together and balanced each other well. Omg the plot of the "132 extras" I can't wait to see what Ruby does with that! I also loved Alice and Helen and can't wait for their stories too. I found the love/hate thing going on with sassy Ruth and broody Straik funny and I know she will give him hell lol. I can't wait for the next book !!!!!!!!

Space Pirates just wanna have fun!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💛🖤💜💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 🫣🤭🫠😮

The heroine: Jade - she is the de facto captain on the Buoyant Star ship. Her and the three other women on the ship were captive slaves, but after something happened on board, the crew of the ship took off on the escape pods leaving the four of them on board. The ship has been stranded for three years and they can’t go anywhere as they can’t read the alien language and don’t know how to work it. Though they have oxygen and have been able to steal supplies from a few of the ships that have stopped to help them.

The Hero: Adiron - a free spirited, fun-loving Massaka space pirate. He loves his job and has a good time with his two brothers Kaspar, and Mathiras. They are in it for the adventure and for the money and are currently after a ship called the Buoyant Star, which was reportedly carrying a huge treasure and never made it to its destination.

The Story: The three brothers are pulled over by another ship which is much bigger than theirs and is captained by a wealthy Massaka male, Lord Straik with a huge ship full of troops and a bone to pick with the brothers. They decide to work together to find the Buoyant Star which is owned by Straik’s family.

Adiron plays the dumb and easygoing scoundrel while keeping his ears open and finding out all kinds of intel. He is a witty and always up for a bit of fun and often makes bets and pulls pranks with the rest of the crew on Straik’s big ship.

The book is told in dual points of view, and the narration is done by Mason Lloyd and Hollie Jackson. I have heard these narrators before and they are both good readers with many voices in each of their repertoires. The story was good and there was plenty of romance and steam. I have been loving Ruby Dixon books for a while and this one did not disappoint.

DNF @48%

I tried and tried and tried to keep reading this, but I was only doing it because it is a Ruby Dixon book and because I have been waiting for the Corsair brothers to have their books for a very long time.

I’ll try reading the next ones in the series.

There was nothing wrong with this book/story - except that I was bored and I would have rather watched paint dry 😅

I know this is book 1 in a new series, but TRUST ME, it is most enjoyable if you already know the large cast of background characters and their shenanigans, as many people from former books show up in this one as cameos.

This is the best reading order:

1. Prison Planet Barbarian Jutari + Chloe
2. The Corsair's Captive Kivian (Jutari's brother) + Fran
3. In The Corsair's Bed Tarekh (Kivian's crew) + Cat
4. Enticed By The Corsair Alyvos (Kivian's crew) + Iris
5. Deceiving the Corsair Sentorr (Kivian's crew) + Zoey (sister of the va Sithai brothers)
6. When She Purrs Nassakth + Kim (features Sophie, Bethiah and the va Sithai brothers)
7. When She Belongs Jerrok (friend of the va Sithai brothers) + Sophie (features the va Sithai brothers and Bethiah)
8. Adiron (THIS BOOK) Adiron va Sithai + Jade
9. Corsairs: Kaspar Kaspar va Sithai + Alice
10. Bad Guy
11. Corsairs: Straik Straik sa'Rin + Ruth
12. Corsairs: Mathiras
13. Worse Guy
14. Corsairs: Bethiah Bethia!!!

My review of this book:
I always loved the va Sithai brothers ever since they first appeared in Deceiving the Corsair. So reading about Adirons love story was one of my life goals. However, I found this book hard to get into, for several reasons.

- the heroine, Jade. Others have pointed this out. She's boring. She's like a smooth surface that has no grip and you can't connect to. She doesn't even have a weird hobby to balance out her seriousness, and her boringness never reaches the earnest GOLD STAR LOYAL GIRL level (if a heroine is GOLD STAR LOYAL, I forgive everything. I'm a sucker for that)

- Adiron is funny, but since Jade is boring, he leans toward ~ childishly goofy ~ instead of toward sexy funny. Which is too bad, because all the va Sithai brothers are ABSOLUTE SWEETHEARTS and deserve everything. I just wish that Adiron was a more exciting combo, together with Jade.

- The book was first released as a serial on Facebook, and I thought the time Adiron and Jade spent together really, really dragged. I think the serial release nature makes Ruby's books longer, and normally, that's a GOOD thing. In this case, because not much happened, it was BAD.

- there was altogether too little Bethiah in this one (I WANT BETHIAH! GIVE ME BETHIAH, BREAKFAST LUNCH AND DINNER! I lover her)

- I was WAY more excited about the other couples. Alice and Kaspar? Helen and Mathiras? Straik and Ruth?

So yeah, this was a fine read because of all the familiar faces and camoes, but I wanted more for Adiron, and frankly, Jade deserved to be less boring too.

➕ What I liked :

“Older” heroine. (30+)

Curvy/plus size heroine.

Bipoc main character.

Some funny and sweet parts.

Somewhat OK romantic build-up and chemistry.

➖ What I disliked :

The ‎internalized subtle body-shaming/fat-shaming by the heroine.
(Subtle things here and there but also that the heroine is somewhat self-deprecating about her body and in a negative way compares herself too much to the other women.)

That hero calls himself dumb too often and is not dumb at all just kind of messy and reckless/inattentive sometimes.

Some parts were a little bit repetitive and others a little boring and verbose/dragged.

Both main characters needed some more depth… especially the heroine.

The heroine was a little too serious and to some extent boring.

The hero was a little too goofy/silly and carefree.

Some parts of the romantic build-up and chemistry was kind of rushed and instalove.

Formulaic in the character description/character choice of the hero.
(Almost all the heroes in this/these series/universe (Mesakkah and others) look more or less the same: Huge hulking/buff or muscled and with six-packs and all more less the same height… It would have been/would be really interesting to maybe see much more variety in the character descriptions/character choices of the heroes… plus sized heroes, lanky heroes etc.)

Overall a nice enough one time read that had me smiling here and there, it just didn't have the oomph I was expecting and I found it easy to put my kindle down.

I wasn't keen on Adiron referring to himself as the dumb, least smart brother - it happened way too much for my liking.

Not sure I'll read book two in the series when it's out.

3.5 stars -- I am loving seeing the various Ruby Dixon series comingle more and more! While I do think this suffers from being serialized (there's a good 20% that probably should have been edited out), I absolutely loved Adiron as our main character & we've got some delicious conflict set up up for future books. These space pirate books are very fun

'Perhaps this is the universe's way of apologizing to me for all the bad shit that's happened. I imagine some celestial deity pushing Adiron my way. Here, it says. Have this. It'll make you happy.'

description

All the stars for how this made me laugh, how LONG IT WAS THANK YOU, how much plot was actually in here making this feel less like a straight-up romance and more of a legit sci-fi (loving how the most recent books are drifting that way tbh) and my fav group of bros + wonderful new girls. Adiron is one of my fav guys ever in this universe and that's 100% due to his sass and loveable idiocy.

I love that it seems like every Ruby side-character gets their own book/series. She even called it out in her author's note of one of these books - if a character is given a name, they'll probably get a book. Well write, Ruby, write, because I will read anything.

We met Adiron and his brothers in book 4 of the original Corsair series, when their adopted human sister Zoey becomes mated to another corsair (space pirate). Adiron is known as the jokester, and the dumb one. Enter a chance encounter with a few scrappy humans and he's immediately enthralled by one: Jade.

This book was fun, as all of Ruby's books are. I love the Ice Planet world, but getting to see more of the wider galaxy is always fun because the alien world she's built is so well thought out. (How does she do it?!) This book and this series felt different from her other Corsair/Risda books, because they're so much longer - it makes them feel more epic in scale and there's more pages for plot and steam.

I wound up really liking Adiron and Jade together. Jade is the mother figure who stays strong for her friends, but Adiron - who is constantly the one who jokes and isn't serious - takes care of her.

Not my favorite Ruby book and not my favorite in the Corsair Brothers series but still, a must read for any alien/Ruby Dixon fan.

This review was originally posted on Books of My Heart

Review copy was received from Publisher. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I found Ruby Dixon and realized I'm really into smutty alien romances when the aliens are horned blue dudes with tails and a special horn just for her pleasure about a year ago.  Those aliens were all stuck on an ice planet.  The Corsairs: Adiron the first book from the Corsair Brothers is the first book I've read in Ruby Dixon's hot space guys world where the characters are in space.  Apparently there are more out there, this is just the first one I've stumbled into.

Adiron, space pirate extraordinaire, has just found the ship he was looking for.  It doesn't exactly have the cargo he thought it would have on it.  He was looking for silks, what he found was Jade.  Well, an earth girl named Jade that is.  She is beautiful and just sprung a trap on him knocking him out.

Jade has been stuck on this ship for three years.  Only a few of the girls were brought out of storage for "fun" on the long journey and the four of them that were left behind have been playing this trick every so often for awhile.  They scavenge what they need and send the pirates on their way none the wiser.  But Adiron's crew had a trick up their sleeve and now she is on their ship with this funny man alien guy who acts like he is besotted with her.

The Rudy Dixon stories are always a good time.  There is the flirting, the fun, and the mating dance.  I liked both Adiron and Jade.  He is the fun loving, don't take anything too serious sort and she is the "I'm always in charge and I just need a break sometimes" girl.  Jade loves that Adiron is there to support and help her and she doesn't need to do everything by herself.  Now if they can just survive long enough to be rescued and save the rest of the cargo on the ship.
Narration:
Hollie Jackson and Mayson Lloyd have narrated a lot of these books and I might get into the story even more because of their narration.  Mason does Adiron's voice so well and really makes him feel just a little more Alien with the pattern of speech and inflections.  Holly really makes the girls likable and she brings this fun sense of whimsy to the story as well.  I am able to listen to this at my usual 1.5x speed.

Reread thru audio 10/25/21:

Rereading this after I've read most of RD's backlist got me loving the Ruby Dixon Cinematic Universe so much! (Though this couple & romance is still subpar to me compared to others)
“And the only one that supports life is an ice planet with poison air. No one's visiting this system at all. It's totally deserted…”

Bruh 💀🤧 This would have been the best crossover!!
Lmao but I get why the IPB gang wouldn't want to get involved with regular civilization.
BUT JUST IMAGINE.

~~~
First read 1/9/21:
A lot different than Ice Planet Barbarians in terms of pacing (ie. this was much, much longer). First half was so good and I couldn't stop reading but then it got boring after they got together at the halfway point.
Also, pure coincidence, but I started watching Avatar (2009 film) and I can't unsee the resemblance of all these blue aliens. 👽🛸🚀
Reread number a million - I have loved Adiron from the first time I read his book. He’s silly, ridiculous, and adorable. Jade is the calm to his wild and they are perfect for each other and have a great give and take. The book deals with some veeerrrrryyyyy dark themes, which I love tbh.
Spice: 5/5
Triggers: slavery, abuse, SA (off page), trafficking, freezing into stasis, drugging, violence, captivity, threat of being ejected into space, discussion of war, murder
OG review: Adiron is the best sweet not-so-smart boy. I absolutely adored him and I’ve been looking for a MMC like him ever since I finished this book. He was possessive, but in a sweet “you are a strong independent woman” way. Adorable AF. FMC was a believable victim of horrendous trauma trying to basically mother the other women to deal with it.
Read as an audiobook. I like a happy-go-lucky hero who acts dumb, but is actually very competent and doesn’t let the world get to him. Adiron was a good counterpoint to Jade who’s had to be serious and in control (when she’d rather not be) for too long. She needed some sillyness in her life and Adiron definitely brought that. They were cute together and I’m intrigued by what’s going on with his brothers, Lord Straik and the other humans. At this point Ruby Dixon books are basically just the audiobooks I listen to in the background while I work or do chores and that’s the perfect way to enjoy them for me 😌
I was looking for more shenanigans. This whole universe Ruby Dixon has created feels like there's so much to discover just so much potential that remains untapped.
Also, the repetition in the writing style is... challenging as a reader.
It's hard to say negative stuff about Ruby Dixon she's one of my favorites -she created the blue aliens ! But it's been lots of books with the same guys now, we know they're sweet and cute, and we have MMC's POV too so there's no need to explain 10+ times how it's different with MMC than the rapist slavers before him.
Keffing 5 stars-worthy read! 🛸
I felt that Corsair Brothers' books might have lot many more pages than Ruby Dixon's IPB or Drakoni books, or did I imagine that?
Whatever it was, I keffing loved this very, very much. Yes, I'm gonna shamelessly borrow that word from Adiron here and pop it straight into my daily vocabulary.
If you're looking for a perfect amount of intriguing plot and steamy smut, this book is it. I'm positively sure that I was supposed to read a couple of books before starting on Corsair Brothers series but eh I didn't mind that one bit, it felt like the book could be a standalone all on its own, except for a few alien-ly named stations whose names I conveniently forgot right after reading over it.
Adiron is a cute, hot, dorky, muscular dude and Jade is a brave, kind, sexy, momma bear. I would add more adjectives but those fit their descriptions best :p
And I might be the last person among all people who read Ruby Dixon to know this, BUT I HAPPEN TO HAVE REALISED THAT ALL (?) HER BOOKS HAPPEN IN THE SAME UNIVERSE!?
Whaaaaaaaat?
It took me a few minutes to stop gaping over that fact, and I'm still not done. I'm awe-struck.
Do I recommend this book? Heck yeah!
4 stars. God I’m so sad this book is over... although it took me a long time to read, just because listening to audiobooks works better with my life. I wish she would write more Corsairs & more Risdaverse because TBH, I’m tired of all her ice planet stories.
So what can I really say about this story? It’s a little slow going at times, but still fantastic overall. Maybe a bit more sex than needed or is typical of a RD book. The hero is great. The heroine is just fine. I loved seeing past book characters, and I’m excited to read the stories of Adiron’s brothers soon. 🤞🏻 The world building for the series is excellent, and I really feel so keffing immersed in this alien world that I want MOAR NOW.
Safe; hero has only been with one other woman and she makes an appearance in this book (but hero doesn’t care about her anymore), heroine has been with multiple others including being woken from stasis and being used as a sex slave. Although no details are given, and she doesn’t act traumatized, it’s clear she was raped repeatedly.
This is the romance between alien space pirate Adiron and human woman Jade. Adiron and his brothers are off trying to find this rare and lost spae ship for some treasure. But once they board the ship they realize that there are human women living there already. And the human women try to swindle them! From that moment on Adiron is smitten with Jade and will stop at nothing until she is his mate.
This was so cute!!! I loved this!! I love how Adiron fully swoons over Jade and loves her with his whole being!! I also loved Jade and how kick-butt she was! I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!! I think they are going to be amazing!!
TROPES: alien romance, cinnamon roll hero, forced proximity (they are stuck on a spaceship), great banter, kindle unlimited, non-human, plus-size rep, sweet heroes
Adiron + Jade
These pandemic serials have all been amazing! This book and series is really connecting the dots with so many other series as well, fun easter eggs - Risda, set up for Bad Guy, mentioning an ice planet with a toxic atmosphere near bye, and the status of Earth.
Oh Adiron... he is an easy going, funny, FILTHY dirty talker who plays dumb. What an amazing hero! He falls in love, instantly at first sight with Jade who is a strong willed leader and care-taker. But not uptight, she is the perfect balance for Adiron.
I love the close group of woman that lure pirates like sirens. And that we have an alien woman on board too! Again more expanding and adding on to the Rubyverse. The way she weaves her stories, and sets them up perfectly is my favorite thing about her stories - no one does it like her! And now, her connecting the series and building on the universe as a whole?! The best!
I love the set-up for all the future Corsair books, and that the story is interconnected and continues on directly from this book. I read When She's Ready a while back, and had to flex my brain to remember small pieces that happened in that book that were slightly referenced here. I'll need to continue on relatively soon, since all 4 of these books (I'm assuming) happen at the same time.
The romance was fun and easy going, with just chaos and the unknown going on behind them. So excited for this adventure!
Oh MAN, I sort of love Adiron's light-hearted attitude. He's fun and flirty, he plays dumb and he *seems* like a big, old manwhore on the surface, but he's a whole lot more than that. He's goofy and caring and so loyal it's crazy. His loyalty almost got him killed once upon a time and yet he doesn't let one bad experience with a self-absorbed ex dim his enthusiasm for life.
Frankly, that's exactly what Jade needs. She needs someone who helps her enjoy living. She needs someone who treats her like the queen she is. She needs someone who knows she's strong enough to shoulder all the burdens she's taken on, but who wants to help just because he doesn't want her to unnecessarily struggle.
And Jade sees past Adiron's goofball exterior. She sees his loyalty and she adores that he doesn't hold back when he wants something (especially when that something is her and Adiron wants her A LOT. HAHA. The dude really is a hornball once he finds the right lady.) and she absolutely trusts him even though her experience with other aliens wasn't the best.
THESE TWO ARE JUST SO STINKING CUTE.
We get to see a few familiar faces (and one off the wall chaotic one) and get the setup to a whole world (or escape pod) full of adventure for the other brothers. And Straik. HA. Straik. I hope you fall hard and fast, dude.
Here's to the Corsairs and their stories!
First in a new series from Dixon. As in Dixon's other books you get lotsa...
Aliens: Yes and well developed (pun).
Sex: Yes. A lot. Graphic. But fun in the sack kind.
Romance: Chic flic fun kind vs brooding, domineering.
But where most of her books til now have focused on the sex and romance with only enough world building to move the story along, in Adiron, Dixon writes a much more expansive story with multiple characters, backstories, and some real Fireflyish sci-fi elements. All presented in Becky Chambers friendly sci-fi model (no evil empire, alien apocalypse, space laser battles, just folks working together to survive on the fringes of space). A narrative leap forward for Dixon, and well done.
That said, the Adiron/Jade pairing didn't do much for me. The impulsive paired with the planner. Meh. Had the two not been isolated together, I can't imagine them ever noticing each other other.
Bottomline: Good story, weak romance. Worth a read if you're into the alien, sex, romance thing that Dixon does so well. Alternatively, if you ignore the sex, there's a pretty good mass market sci-fi story hiding in Adiron. I'm interested to see where the series goes next.
Quick(ish) Review
Quick, filthy fun, my favorite kind. The story is a good starting point for this spin-off series but does weave it well into the ‘verse Ms. Dixon has created. Adiron and Jade are low angsty and doesn’t really delve into the abuse the women suffered when they awoke from stasis to discover they’d been kidnapped from Earth. The characters are likeBoe and the reading was easy. There’s glimpses from old faves, and a setup for the other couples has potential. Overall, I liked this, even if this story isn’t much more than some smutty good times. In 2020, it’s exactly what I needed.
Spin off series of Corsairs series.
This one connects toDeceiving the Corsair in that the lead character, Adiron, is Zoey's brother.
Not leaving a rating or in-depth review as it was a DNR at around the 40% for me. Writing style, character development, and overall story line didn't work for me.
An excellent sci-fi romance.
I thoroughly enjoyed this romance. The plot and pacing were tight and exciting, which meant that reading it flew by even though it was a long novel. The characterization was vibrant, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals with strengths and weaknesses. I liked the humor, and the hero was so sweet and devoted right from the beginning, and ardently pursued the heroine. That is my favorite way to develop a romantic relationship in a romance novel. A great beginning for this series.
Адирон (Мессакаш) и Джейд (Човек)
Адирон, заедно с братята му Каспар и Матхирас са галактически пирати. След като, Зоуи малкото човешко момиче, което са отгледали като родна сестра пораства и напуска кораба им, събирайки се с половинката си, тримата братя са повече от отегчени. През последните 10 години са се старали да правят така, че да пазят съществуването на Зоуи в тайна, и сега, когато тя е напуснала кораба им, те решават да се впуснат в приключение, търсейки огромен отдавна изчезнал кораб за който се носят слухове, че превозва невиждани богатства. По време на търсенето си, те се сблъскват с лорд Страйк, черната овца на заможна фамилия, която е собственик на изчезналият кораб. Притиснати от обстоятелствата те започват да работят с него по търсенето на кораба, но когато го откриват, нещата въобще не са това, което са мислили.
Джейд е отвлечена от земята и поставена в криокапсула заедно с още над 100 жени, които са предназначени за продажба на пазара за роби. Когато между екипажа на кораба избухва бунт, те решават да събудят няколко от жените в капсулите, за да си осигурят "забавления", и Джейд, заедно с Рут и Алис се събуждат на космически кораб, на светлинни години от дома в ръцете на група безжалостни извънземни. Живота им като секс робини не е лесен, но когато кораба избухва поредният бунт, няколко от мъжете са убити и половината екипаж напуска посреднощ кораба. Скоро останалите, които се боят, че първата група може да се завърне също решават да напуснат кораба и така трите жени остават сами на кораб, който не могат да управляват и който е пълен с капсули със спящи жени. При първият бунт от криокапсула е събудена и още една от жените, тя е Хелън, но тя не е събудена за забавление на екипажа, а защото е клонинг на жена от отдавна изчезнала древна раса, и мъжете са били любопитни да я видят. Хелън се събужда напълно пораснала в свят, който не познава и Джейд, Рут и Алис се превръщат за нея в семейство, което я учи на всичко за живота.
Изминали са 3 години и четирите жени са намерили начин да попълват запасите си, като примамват кораби, само за да упоят екипажа им, да откраднат провизиите им, и да ги изпратят далеч с изтрита краткосрочна памет. Когато обаче Адирон, Каспар, Матхирас и Страйк се отзовават на зова им за помощ, не е така лесно да бъдат ограбени и изпратени с изтрита памет.
Още от мига в който Адирон вижда Джейд, той се влюбва в нея. Без задръжки и без възражения, затова, когато Страйки, който не може да повярва, че семейният му кораб е използван за превоз на роби решава да изчезне посреднощ със собственият си кораб, изоставяйки братята, Адирон знае, че трябва да вземе нещата във свой ръце. Кораба е много стар и на всичкото отгоре никой освен жените на борда не може да получи достъп до някои от функциите му. На всичкото отгоре той бавно но сигурно се придвижва към ледено поле, което ще доведе до смъртта на всички на борда. Джейд държи да остане на борда и да се грижи за хората в капсулите, затова Адирон остава с нея на борда, докато Матхирас с Хелън, и Каспар с Алис се качват на спасителни капсули с надеждата да успеят да стигнат до собственият си кораб и да доведат помощ преди да е станало прекалено късно... а Рут отива да шпионира Страйк на кораба му, без да подозира, че той ще офейка посреднощ отвеждайки я далеч от единственият дом който познава.
Книгата беше дяволски забавна. Обичам всички герои на Руби, но мисля, че Адирон ще е най-любимият ми герой завинаги. Толкова забавен, толкова откровен, толкова нахакан. Всяка негова реплика бе уникална. Държанието му, отношението му, целият начина по който гледа на живота беше невероятен. От първият момент той се влюби във вечно сериозната Джейд и бе готов да обърне света, но да й покаже, че е идеален за нея. Това, че прекараха толкова много време сами на кораба беше доста интересно. Разбира се, нямаше как да се размине без интрига. Срещнахме се отново с всички познати двойки от предишната поредица за корсарите. Разбира се видяхме Зоуи, която като сестра на Адирон имаше значителна роля, чухме и малко от Сентор. Deceiving the Corsair (Corsairs, #4) by Ruby Dixon срещнахме се с Фран и се запознахме с дъщеричката й, която е одрала кожата на Кивиан и дори татко й я облича в същите екстравагантни тоалети, с които се носи и той. The Corsair's Captive (Corsairs, #1) by Ruby Dixon , зърнахме за миг Тарекх и Кат In The Corsair's Bed (Corsairs, #2) by Ruby Dixon и Аливос и Айрис Enticed By The Corsair (Corsairs, #3) by Ruby Dixon , а в епилога се върнахме на астероида на Джерок, където Софи трябваше да се изправи пред Кивиан и да му каже, че няма да се върне с него и че тя и Слейпнир остават при Джерок. When She Belongs (Risdaverse #4) by Ruby Dixon
Като цяло направихме един пълен кръг, историята с тримата изчезнали братя се завъртя в края на книгата на Софи и Джерок, и сега първата книга от новата поредица свършва пак при Джерок и Софи.
Следващата книга ще е за Каспар и Алис. Имам усещането, че 4те книги от поредицата ще вървят паралелно. После имаме книгата на Страйк и Рут, там ще хвърчат много искри. Това, което все още нямаме е книгата за Хелън и Матхирас. В тази книга Хелън си падна по Матхирас от пръв поглед, следваще го като кученце, ако можеше щеше да се накатери върху него. Като новоизлюпен клонинг, тя не познава друг живот освен този, който е водила през последните 3 години на борда на кораба заедно с Джейд, Алис и Рут, и по тази причина ще е адски интересно да проследя израстването й, да видя всички неща, които ще направи за пръв път и мисля, че ще е една наистина интересна и завладяваща книга. Чакам я с нетърпение.
3.5 out of 5
Ruby Dixon’s written so many books I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get through them all. So many of her books are interconnected I’m in awe about how she weaves them in and out. I debated with myself on what to grade this one and the grade I decided on is because of my personal taste, not the quality of the writing. I’ll get into that in a bit.
Idiron and his two older brothers are corsairs or space pirates. There’s been rumours for years about a lost space ship and a great treasure on board. They decide to find it. This is quite an adventure, it’s A swashbuckler. He and his brothers are captured by other pirates held as prisoners until they decide to join forces with their kidnappers.
I don’t want to say more at the risk of spoilers except to say during their adventures, Adiron meets the love of his life, his mate, and rescues her a few times as a swashbuckling pirate would do in a romance. For a good part of the time I was having a rollicking good time. But now to the somewhat lower grade and why and it’s an odd one. Way too much gratuitous sex. I know right? Who downgrades a book because of too much sex unless you’re a reader who only reads “clean” (shudder) romance. I think sex scenes in romance is very important. While not necessary, I will read books without them, I think they enhance the story. They give a deeper connection between couples. But in some books I read, there’s too much. In this book, there are multiple lovemaking scenes where it goes on for pages and pages - each scene, and I found myself skipping over those pages until it was over, thinking enough already. I think this is why I’ve never been tempted to read erotica.
Plus partway through, around the 45% mark, the book just started to drag for me and I came close to DNFing and returning it. I’m glad I didn’t as it did pick up and as long as I jumped over the sex scenes I really enjoyed it. And I do want to keep reading this series to see what happens to the brothers. But because of the issues I had, and again my own issues, I just couldn’t rate it higher.
