A passionate and enthralling college romance. Two damaged souls on a path to obliteration. When they collide, will they heal each other, or are they damaged beyond repair?

What’s worse than losing someone you love? Blaming yourself for their death. Two years after a devastating accident, Calla is still full of guilt. But beyond the blame, other demons are prowling. Post-traumatic stress disorder. Poor grades. Insomnia. Estrangement.

Calla is hopeful for a fresh start. A new beginning. She’s in for an inscrutable surprise when her path collides with Ace’s.

Ace is an asshole—there’s no denying that. He’s rude, arrogant, and impulsive. A magnetic force comes out to play, hurling Calla into Ace at full speed without brakes to decelerate. And there’s no fighting fate, no matter how cruel or unfair it seems.

Soon, Calla is addicted. Addicted to Ace—addicted to the elation he makes her feel. And she realizes that perhaps, they aren’t so different after all. However, secrets are deeply entrenched and woven through their souls. When they finally unveil, will Calla be able to look past them, or will everything shatter beneath her?

WARNING This author has some crazy followers who can't even deal with a bad review on their favorite story without attacking the reviewer personally, so if you're considering giving it a one-star, be prepared.

Anyway, I picked up this book thinking I was going to read a New Adult piece, but unless you think the head of a 14-year-old qualifies for a New Adult, I was grossly misled. This is false advertising. The book definitely reads more like a YA, and I'm genuinely sorry I spent money on this abomination. I wish I had listened to Anna, another reviewer in here. She hit the nail on the head with her one-star review, and I regret not giving it enough attention before I bought this piece.

This book represents a prime example of why self-publishing can be problematic—this shouldn't be on anyone's shelves. I've never written a review before, but after reading this attempt at literature, I genuinely felt compelled to do it so that I might do my part and help others from falling into the trap that I did.

Speaking of misleading, I wanna say that the reviews on this book are totally misleading as well. 5 stars for this piece of junk? Where are your standards at?? Do people even know how to read these days? I spotted so many grammar errors and spelling mistakes that I really struggled to read through—which I only did because I actually spent money on this. In hindsight, I guess I was also hoping that things would improve considering all the great reviews. Sadly, they did not. Absolutely not.

We meet Ace who is the epitome of everything I think is wrong with this world. A toxic jackass and a narcissistic idiot with literally nothing between his ears whatsoever (and apparently he reads Hemingway—who, by the way, is turning in his GRAVE over how many unnecessary adjectives this author crams into her writing).

Anyway, literary honor aside, Ace just decides that he hates Calla (what even is that name) from the start. Like whut? Why? Because he's a troubled badboy? It’s so irrational and inexplicable. It's really out of nowhere. He looks at her and has decided he hates her. . . Like, he has absolutely no legitimate reason to treat her the way he does during their first encounter.

When it comes to the characters, I don't know any person in real life, and didn't even when I was 14, who ever acted like these characters do. Honestly, everything is so. . .weird and forced and unrealistic. The side characters were so bland too—only there to fill the gaps. They didn't feel like real people at all. None of the characters did.

Which brings me to the scene where Dear Author, do you realize how unlikely this is? Like the amount of coincidences that have to line up here is just too much. Please, next time, try to respect your readers' intelligence at least A LITTLE. Do you really think we're all that dumb that we'll believe something like that? Smh. It was the most forced, inauthentic scene I've probably ever had to suffer through.

This book also contains some seriously weird steamy scenes. There's one point where The image in my head was of Ace as a frog, shooting his tongue out while eating flies under the stars. Don't think that's what the author tried to convey, but that's what happened. Since there was no logic there, my poor brain tried to find some, hence the frog's tongue.

This book is littered with stuff like this: weird metaphors that don't make any sense.

And don't even get me started on how Instead of standing up to Ace and trying to hold him accountable for poor, reckless and ruthless behavior, Calla just forgives, and forgives, and forgives... and forgives. It is exhausting. She is so incredibly MEEK. I'm sad girls are reading this and actually look up to this brainless barbie. WHO BY THE WAY (oh my god, now I'm laughing so hard) is a self-proclaimed popular girl!! While mentioning she used to be a cheerleader back in High School, she claims she was one of the popular girls by saying, "That's how these things work, right?" THE CRINGE I DID WAS SO PAINFUL I think I broke my neck. As someone who went to High School: NO, that is not how these things work, and this bimbo would definitely not be popular lmfao.

Really, this book should come with a cringe-warning.

The number of clichés in this book. . . I didn't even think it was possible to cram that many into 352 pages. I guess that's the most impressive thing about the whole book. The sad part is that the plot really had potential. Ace could have shown some real character development at the end I might actually have considered reading the sequel had it turned out that way. But instead, Calla takes the law into her own hands, completely disregards her father's rights, and tells Ace that 'it's okay, you've suffered enough you poor manchild, I'm not gonna punish you It was all so absurd, honestly.

I also want to point out the blatant similarities to Anna Todd's After series. I don't like those books either, and DNFed them, but I know enough and had read enough to know that Ace's diary, his daddy-issues, his tendency to run off all of a sudden without communicating anything (TOXIC) and so SO much more, is straight out of After. It was like reading a fanfiction—of a fanfiction. I'm not sure if it's enough to constitute plagiarism, but hell, Ms. Todd should take a look at this. . .

Oh, this reminds me, Ace's anger issues were a MAJOR turn-OFF. I'm concerned women are drawn to these types of violent men. Who knows how little it takes before that violence targets their partner instead? I can just see the domestic abuse waiting to happen.

An example sentence from the book: “I physically can’t breathe”

. . . Can you breathe mentally then?

I’m not even gonna start on all the crimes committed in this book (and possibly by this book. I'll leave it to Ms. Todd to decide that), not just by Ace, but also by Calla (by preventing the course of justice), and how the author seems to be completely okay with that. She’s glorifying the worst possible behavior in this book.

Also, Calla's head “spins” so much I got dizzy just reading this damned book. She needs to get that looked at.

Since there is a lot of criticism in this review, I want to tell the author that she messed up a perfectly good plot. It was actually a really cool idea what she did—how Ace & Calla are intertwined. But, I just didn't like the way she handled it at all. This just wasn't my cup of tea, it was too teenager-y. And to everyone who wants to come at me for that, please remind yourself that I'm entitled to an opinion of a book that is in the public space. I don't attack you for your 5-stars in the comments, so I really shouldn't be attacked for my 1-star.

I wrote a one-star review for this a few weeks ago, but it looks like the author had all the reviews removed. I understand that she didn't want people judging the book based on the unedited Wattpad version. That's totally valid.

That being said: the edited version of the book was still a big DNF for me.

I only needed to make it to the meet-cute to realize that, while the writing has definitely been cleaned up in edits, the similarities to Anna Todd's "After" are still there and are pretty tough to ignore. Plain and bookish Calla (Tessa) is the new girl at college. She meets an extended cast of new friends (many of whom are mirror images of cast members in "After") along with Ace (Hardin), the exhaustingly rude bad boy. They proceed to act more like fourteen-year-olds than college kids.

I'm a shameless fan of tropey New Adult romance, but when I read a book with a set-up I've seen before, I need some personality and heart to set it apart. The narration fell flat for me. There's not much humor, not much wit, not much personality/character-building outside of some backstory dumps. I felt emotionally detached from Calla, and consequently I couldn't find anything redeeming in Ace (and I do love a good bad boy, but this guy was just bland and silly).

I stand by my original one-star.

Wow, this book literally broke me!

This book is jam packed with angst, heartbreak and enemies to lovers excellence which I absolutely love!

This book follows Calla who has just moved into a house with some people attending the same university as her after experiencing a tragedy in her life. This is where she meets Ace who from their first encounter can’t stand her.

From the very first time they meet it’s obvious that there’s chemistry between both Calla and Ace and as much as they try to fight it, they always come back to each other. Calla and Ace are both so broken and yet they complete one another.

Genecious is such a talented writer and it’s amazing to see more wattpad authors becoming independently published. Her words just have a way of captivating you and drawing you into the story so much that you can’t put it down.

Although I have to wait patiently for book two I’m so unbelievably excited because this book left me with so many questions. I can’t wait to read more from Genicious.

The book was okayish. Some parts of the relationship between Ace and Calla even reminded me a lot of my ex-boyfriend and I. Coming from this point, after being with some, who always draws you close and then pushes you away when the slightest inconvenience happens, this relationship is highly concerning. Moreover, I find the other reviews even more concerning. People saying that they love their relationship and that they love Ace.

- might be a spoiler-
I found Ace character pretty annoying. This whole thing of him saying 'Calla, I'm just not a good person. You need to stay away." Yea, you're right buddy. You're a terrible person. I understand that he went through some shit and I also understand that this "we both went through hell, and now we both finally met someone we can open up about our terrible past". Despite this factor, if you suffer from nightmare or anger issues or whatever, please seek help. Especially, if you could harm others or yourself.
Ace is for me a really unlikeable character with anger issues, his attitude, and his strange disappearances. It does not make you a sexy mysterious guy when you constantly disappear after you told someone what they mean and then come back days later as if it was the most normal thing in the world. NO someone does not love you when he constantly runs from you. No someone does not love you when he is only nice to you and is a shitty person to the rest of the world. No someone does not love you when he is overly jealous and does neither respect you or your boundaries.
Oh and no. I do not like Calla either. The whole Nate-thing was pointless. You just be a fucking decent human-being and tell the guy you're not interested and set clear boundaries, even or well especially if he is your ex-boyfriend. Both are shitty people, so maybe they really deserve each other.

All in all, the love presented in the book is really concerning. Please do not glorify a toxic and somewhat abusive relationship. Or maybe the weekly therapy sessions after being with your own Ace helps to understand how fucked up their relationship is.

Honestly couldn’t put the book down. It was a little slow at first but after chapter 5 amazing, one of the best books I’ve read in the longest time. The writing, it keeps you on your toes, takes you on a roller coaster, ups and downs and you fall in love with the characters. Ace and Calla the main characters have such a unique relationship that keeps just guessing and wanting more and more with each chapter you read.

"You and me, we're written in the stars, love."

I Need You To Hate Me follows Calla, a girl who just moved to a new city to attend university. When she meets her housemates, she also meets Ace. This novel is enemies to lovers; therefore, they, of course, don't get along when they first meet. But fate keeps them on their toes, and they keep running into each other. As they spend more time together, their relationship grows to become something more intimate.

I love the main characters, Calla & Ace. And I love them together. They connect with each other in such a beautiful way; they just fit. I cannot wait for I Need You To Love Me to come out. And to rewatch how their relationship develops more and more.

Maybe we'll meet again in another life. When the stars align. :)

This book is honestly really one of my favorites. The way the author narrates the story it makes me feel like I am in the book myself. Calla and Ace's story is truly capturing and you will not be displeased with this book. I advise everyone to read this amazing book.

“He starts a fire inside of me, and I’m like the ice for his underlying ire.”

This book is absolutely incredible. It is such an easy read, and it kept me up all night. The way I´m amazed by the writing – and the appreciation for the minor details really captured my attention. Though I had read this book prior to the edited-published version, I was still super excited to read Ace and Calla’s story once again. An enemies-to-lovers book with a greater slow burn which is exactly what I needed. Reading this all over again really made me believe in love – then it broke me and ripped my heart to pieces. But it also made me think that some people are meant to be with each other, even under different circumstances. Also, the theme of stars made it so special and more personal and I could definitely see it as their thing. It´s deep and raw – and once again I´m amazed. Would have loved a lot more plot, but overall, it´s five stars from me!

Ugh this book is absolutely amazing! I read the first version and wattpad and couldn’t imagine how the author could possibly make the book any better. But once again, she out did herself. The characters are portrayed in such a specific way. It is so much smoother. I do wish there was some more plot, but it was still amazing. I already knew what was going to happen, but reading it still left an urge to continue and if you’re reading for the first time- the plot twist will leave you shook. I will definitely be buying the second book and can’t wait for it to come out❤️

I love this book so much! especially their characters developments, I love the storyline especially. I just love Ace Blackwell so much! even tho It had me in the end. This is the best book I’ve read so far like the story is so simple and cute! Also love the fact that Calla’s ex isn’t a toxic bitch that tryna killed Ace like a basic cliche stories. And the way Ace loves his little sister is just so cute. THIS BOOK IS A MUST!! If I could give infinity stars I would.

great book and story!! originally read this when it was being posted on Wattpad. this published version is 100x better and the author did a fantastic job with her first publication.

Both main characters have a past, which is totally expected, but the plot twist that this book holds is so unexpected that you will be screaming for more! Also, the emotions that this book drives are fantastic!

Ace & Calla's story is even better (I didn't think it could get any better) and I am so excited to see what comes in the next book (INYTLM). I couldn't wait for her to update the chapters on Wattpad, and I most definitely cannot wait for the published version.

MUST READ.

UPDATE: 04/19/21
I just read this book again, and I didn’t think it could get any better the second time around. Turns out, it totally did!

Honestly, this is one of the most well written books from Wattpad that I have ever read. Although it is now published, this author has made sure (even when it was on Wattpad and even in the published version) that parts of the book align perfectly. From quotes to scenes, and even little things in between, everything falls into place.

I follow the author (nearly religiously) on social media, and after seeing that she has already almost finished up the second book, I am 100% sure that the second book will pick up perfectly and ensure that it ties into the first. Very few authors can successfully do this, but after reading Genicious’ work, I know with no doubt that INYTLM and the third book that she will start, will ensure this!

I am super excited and can’t wait. I absolutely love this story and it’s unlike anything I have ever read before. The plot twist was insane, and I’ve never heard of a plot like this one! You really need to read this. Thank you author for sharing this story with us!

Of course, I have to mention this one quote (quote of all quotes!):

Maybe we’ll meet again in another life. When the stars align. <3

thank you QUEEN!

This book is absolutely insane!!! I have read many other books in my life and I got to say this book is something else. I went through so many emotions. One day I was scrolling through TikTok and I saw this girl posted about it and how good it was so I decided to go to wattpad and check it out for myself and it was the best decision I loved it so I ordered the actual paper back book and again it was the best decision I am so so so proud of Fate (Genicious) ❤️❤️

This book will always be my favorite book and its a-lot better, its longer and more detailed i loved it much more than the wattpad version even if that version alone was perfect, Genicious is such a talented author her books never fail to amaze me but damn my heart broke again reading that last line and rn the only thing keeping me from throwing a fit is the fact that I’ve already read INYTLM. I really really really recommend it.

This is the best book I've ever read. It inspires you A LOT. I fell in love with the characters because of all the emotions they expressed, and they made me cry and laugh at the same time, thing that doesn't happen pretty often. I recommend this book to everyone because this is an amazing and incredible book. I am so thankful to the author who wrote this masterpiece.

Must Read!!!!

This book AMAZING!!! I’ve read it 3 times and each time it pierces my heart with the love and pain both characters experience! The plot was very well thought out and it’s not you typical bad boy romance novel. If you love Psychological Romance stories, this is definitely book you need on your shelf, phone and/or tablet!

Loved it! Looks at different topics that are usually avoided and overall it is engaging, well written and makes the reader not want to put the book down. Also once you get to the end you will feel like you know the characters and makes you want to see their lives after. Highly recommended and can’t wait for the release of I Need You To Love Me

I had high expectations going into this read, and Genicious exceeded them greatly. I absolutely adored this book with all my heart! Finished it in about six/seven hours.

The writing is spectacular and descriptive. I felt the characters exact emotions and feelings throughout the novel. I was undoubtedly immersed within the story. I've read some reviews saying the ending was predictable, but it wasn't for me. I went into this thinking it was going to be another college romance based along with a similar storyline. I was surprised that Genicious took it above and beyond that, incorporating a suspenseful plot that I did not expect. Therefore, this made it to my top book list of all time.

I love Ace and Calla separately, and I love them together. Genicious does a fantastic job showing the reader how they fit together so well even with their blatant differences. There was humour, there was heartbreak, there were a few steamy scenes. Everything a reader could want jam-packed into one!

And don't get me started on the cover!! It's truly an artwork (it was the main reason why I purchased the hard copy).

This story shows how fate brings people together. I'm looking forward to the second book, and from the glimpses on the author's Instagram, I can only imagine how incredible it's going to be. I highly recommend this book to everyone, 10/10 it's a MUST read! :)

Hi y’all, I just finished reading the published copy of my favorite book INYTHM!
When I read it on Wattpad I really liked it, but it wasn’t my favorite book ever.. I then bought a published copy and read it. The published version is extremely good. It’s not a cheese romance book. It’s not predictable. It has a lot more complicated plot than bad boy falls for good girl. This book took me by surprise. It’s a emotional roller coaster, full of smiles, laughter and crying. There’s a few things I can say about this book without spoiling it, at least a little bit. I will just say that you need to give it a chance, don’t judge it before you have read it. Don’t judge it just because it’s a Wattpad book. It’s so lovely.

If you are from Wattpad and wondering if it’s worth buying the edited copy of this fantastic book? My answer is he’ll yeah! Here are some of the things that changed:
No Lexie!
Some background story on Ace
A lot more slow burn/ they get to know each other better
SO MANY NEW SCENES
More emotional

Conclusion: YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK. You will love it. You will laugh and cry at the same time. You will love and hate the characters at the same time! READ IT!

i fucking love this book. i love it so much to the point i hate it too. the way it has managed to captive my soul and being so much that i cant even comprehend shit anymore is amazing. this book was previously on wattpad and when i did read that version, i thought it was the greatest book i had ever read. i never thought genicious could out do herself this much, if it was even possible, this version is amazing. lemme tell you, this book will forever be my favorite, no joke. ive had my fair share of books, so trust me when i tell you that this book really is out of this world. i truly love it so much so if you have any chances of getting this book, whether you get the kindle or the physical book, you will not regret it. i do guarantee that. so please do your self the biggest favor and buy this book. honestly it will be one of your best purchases if not the best one. anyways sorry for the rant, but words can't really describe how great this book is.

I originally read this book on Wattpad, as well as the second book, and I instantly fell in love with not only the characters, but the storyline all together! The author portrays such a dark and mysterious plot in the most beautiful and raw way that I have ever seen, and it really is a book that I can never get sick of reading. This book makes you want to fall in love, and make the stars align with someone. Fantastic book. <3
