Alright - this is the third and final book in the Moments of Boston series and Marni blessed us finally with a happy ever after ending lol.

This one definitely has a darker theme than the first and second book throughout. Our MMC is a detective working on a case dealing with missing girls in the area.

The FMC is performer on stage - and as with the rest of the series they're connected to the characters from the previous books in some way.

Dual POV and alternating between past and present which makes the pace move pretty quickly in this one as in the others. This last book is the longest one in the series at just over a little over 300 pages.

The vibes are immaculate, the writing is gorgeous and the spice is spicing. The MMC's again, I'll just say it again and again. They are so swoony and ugh so sexy.

The audios are also fantastic if you're an audio girlie offering dual narration and quality productions. Highly recommend.

'WHEN DARKNESS ENDS' is the third full length contemporary romance book in Marni Mann's 'Moments in Boston' series. This can be read as a stand-alone.

“𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮; 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐥𝐲.
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐈 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞

𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐧.”

It seems like May is the month where authors have gotten together and agreed to give us those sad, emotional reads, this had me tearing up on numerous occasions. 😢 Like a yo-yo on a string the author held my heart in her hands. It's more suspenseful and a lot more darker than what we're used to when it comes to this series which will captivate a wider audience. This was such a unique, unputdownable read which had its hooks into me from that very first page as we're pulled into their whirlwind of a romance.

PAST: Ashe Flynn and Pearl Daniels meet by chance in an overcrowded corridor in college as they are rushing to their next classes. Ashe is bowled over by how beautiful she is and hasn't been able to get her out of his head since. Funnily enough his bestie and roomie Dylan had a study group planned that day at their flat when he sees her there. Fate. From then onwards he was going to make her his. He has a fight on his hands to break down her walls.

“𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧.”

179583985-314970693353115-7703961942285768435-n

She aspires to be front and center on stage and doesn't want to get romantically involved with anyone who could get between her dreams of making it big, and his dream is to become a surgeon.

These two are as different as chalk and cheese, he has an easy go lucky time of college, she has the world on her shoulders with being the sole carer for her elderly Gran. Life has been a challenge for her.

PRESENT TIME: Many emotional curveballs came at us during this time. Eleven years gone by, a dark time for both of them. Nothing can prepare you for what's to come. I don't want to go into this area too much because you need to go in blind so that element of surprise knocks you for a sixer like it did me.

You never forget your first love … even when he becomes a memory.

I struggled with my rating for weeks on this book. Did I like it? Did I not like it? Did I just dislike parts of it. How to I rate it to reflect my feelings on the story accurately. And ultimately, I'll say that I love Marni's writing but I just didn't love this book.

I wanted to rate it a 3, but for me, a 3 is something that ultimately I still enjoyed in spite of the issues I had with the story. And while I was left a bit polarized upon finishing this, I struggled to find what stuck with me on a positive note.

The story is told in two parts of past and present. The past and first half of the story felt painfully slow and teeth rottingly sweet to me. I struggled to stay engaged and I struggled to connect to the characters. I skimmed chapter after chapter. The second part of the story is the polar opposite and read more like a thriller or suspense. I suppose what was lacking from me was a balance. We jump from super bright sunny story into an incredibly dark and depressing one. Now I love me a dark romance, but this didn't feel dark to me. It felt depressing. It felt disjointed. It was also just too much. Not only do we get the story for the main characters here, but we get perspective on the events from When Ashes Fall in the hero's pov. While I get the impact, it added nothing to the story here. It didn't feel needed. Unless you read the first book, it didn't quite hit the same way. It just felt like too much was happening. It could have been mentioned but didn't need the super detailed retelling. I understood why the author may have wanted to include it, but it just distracted me from the main story that was happening.

Ultimately, I just failed to connect with both the story and the characters. I didn't love it and while I can't say I hated it, I also didn't like it either. So that's where the rating comes in. Will others enjoy it? absolutely. You can clearly see I'm the odd man out with my thoughts here. So this is just a case of its me, not you, as the book goes. Alas, you can't love them all.

When Darkness Ends is the third book in the Moments In Boston Series. Every book can be read as a stand-alone. Pearl Daniels is a college student pursuing a BFA in Theatre. Working evenings and rushing off to rehearsals, she barely has time to take care of herself much less time in her life for a man. However, when she meets Ashe Flynn, she was instantly taken by him and the two begin a passionate young romance full of hope and promise. When circumstances out of their control threaten to tear them apart, they will have to trust in each other and the unbreakable bond they share.

"I'm never letting you go."
Told in multiple POVs, When Darkness Ends offers a mysterious read full of intrigue, love, and loss. There are some dark elements weaved in the crevises of the plot and as always, Ms. Mann has crafted a story that will keep you glued to the pages. Told in both the present and the past, every character plays a critical role in the plot. My heart was beating fast after growing attached to Pearl, Pearl's Grandmother, Ashe, and the entire crew! Although certain aspects of the story were expected, overall, I was enraptured by the emotional roller coaster and could not wait to find out what was going to happen next!
"From the sun to the moon and every star in between, baby."
Overall, When Darkness Ends will appeal greatly to contemporary romance fans who enjoy mystery and suspense. With dark overtones, passion, and the raw reflection of life, Ms. Mann never fails to entertain. I look forward to more "Mann Goodness" to come!

When Darkness Ends is the final book in the Moment In Boston Series and we were given something slightly different than we were used to from the previous books.

Going from past to present and told in multiple povs, this story was about a couple who from the very beginning had a few roadblocks set out for them but they made it on their terms. Pearl Daniels never really had it easy growing up but thanks to the love and determination of her Grandmother, her childhood became memorable. Now a College student and working to ends meet, she still has a few issues from her past and the main one is trust. When Ashe Flynn enters her world at warp speed and gives her something she never thought would have been possible for a woman like her, Pearl realizes that this man is truly one of a kind. But not everything can be smooth sailing and this couple is about to learn that painfully.

WDE-AN-Teaser

I liked that this book took on a more darker theme and were given more than one pov. Ashe was everything in this story and if I’m being completely honest, he made it more enjoyable. I sat up a little straighter when it was his turn to tell us his heartbreak and his truth and I only wished that we were given more of those moments because we needed to see them.

Even though I think that the ending was rushed and more could've been done, fans of this series will still enjoy this one. Marni Mann will take you on a journey that you will be glad you took.

Suspenseful, dark and heartbreaking... I was taken by surprise by the plot of this book.
The 3rd book in the Boston Moments series is a great blend of light and dark, of beauty and ugliness, of love and hate.
Connected to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, When Darkness Ends is the story of three intertwined lives: Ash (Dylan's best friend from When Ashes Fall), Pearl and Kerry.
It is told from multiple POVs and the story unfolds in a dual timeline, a before and after. But a before and after what? I obsessed over this question as I was reading and trying to figure out the plot.
The suspense is masterfully woven with the romance. Part of this book reads like a young college love story and part of it like a procedural. The details are disclosed in such a way that only when you get near the end, do you see the clear picture. And let me tell you, it is heartbreaking and frightening.
This whole series is special, definitely give it a try!

When Darkness Ends is a must read for fans of emotional dark romance. In the past, Pearl and Ashe have the perfect love story. Ashe will do anything to prove to Pearl that he’s worth the risk. Pearl is afraid to get close to anyone besides her grandmother. Ashe is focused on studying to become a doctor and hanging out with friends. His best friend is Dylan from When Ashes Fall. The story is told from multiple perspectives including Pearl and Ashe. It switches off between past and present. In the present, everything is different than expected. When Darkness Ends is an emotional journey. I loved trying to figure out what was going on and the emotional roller coaster. There are many great food descriptions throughout the book. This is the third book in the Moments in Boston series. All books can be read as a standalone but the characters from When Ashes Fall make appearances. I highly recommend reading the whole series from the beginning.

Thank you Marni Mann and Valentine PR for When Darkness Ends.

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Type: Standalone book 3 from Moments in Boston series
POV: First Person - Multiple
Rating:

Pearl Daniels had her future carefully mapped out, neglecting to live her life fully. When Ashe Flynn came into her life, he showed her how she could have everything. But when things inadvertently deviated from plans, the future they hope to thread together could unravel everything they held dear.

I liked both of the characters, but at times Pearl tested my patience. Ashe was pretty much a perfect specimen of a human male. However, I wanted more of his background due to a pivotal plot in the story. I also thought the ending was too easy.

I knew the reality. I knew it would slam into me. And when it did, I reached for the bottle, or I went into work to bury myself a little deeper.

This book is divided into two parts - The Before and The After. The Before was a little slow for me where it focused on Romance. The After what carried the weight of the story. It was darker and more suspenseful.

When Darkness Ends is a story of perseverance. It would appeal to readers who enjoy Contemporary Romance with elements of darkness and suspense.

AHHHH!! Just when you think Marni Mann can not get any better she drops the most spine tingling story I have read from her in a long time!! WHEN DARKNESS ENDS is seriously the PERFECT combination of Mann's past suspenseful stories with so much emotional depth and passion. I DIE FOR THIS STORY!!! Pearl and Ashe are just phenomenal!!

Anyone who knows me knows that When Ashes Fall is one of my favorite Marni Mann stories ever. But When Darkness Ends is probably a close second. I love how intertwined the stories are and yet they pack such mind-blowing punches we never see coming!! This story has the most delicious banter, steam, butterfly-inducing moments and twisted nerve-wracking scenes that will take your breath away and have you glued to your seat.

Overall, the Moments In Boston series is one of the best series I have ever read from this author. These books have completely embedded themselves in my heart and soul! I know I will never be the same! 5 stars! ~Ratula

I’m going to be honest here and tell you that I had NO IDEA how I was going to even begin reviewing this book. I'm all over the place. I've got a huge book hangover. I finished this book by Marni Mann a few days ago and I'm still reeling from the experience. This emotionally driven, heartpounding, unique romance is like no other. When Darkness Ends is a beautifully crafted story with so much raw and gut wrenching emotion that it was utterly captivating. Without a doubt, this epic tale is completely and irrevocably unforgettable. From the moment I started this story I was hooked and I could not stop reading, even when I felt my heart was being ripped out of my chest. While this story was one mammoth emotional rollercoaster, it was well worth the ups and downs. It was such a phenomenal story and was written so beautifully; it positively took my breath away.

I was completely and utterly captivated by this story and these characters. My gosh these characters, they were everything and more. Ashe and Pearl took hold of my heart and didn't let go. They are positively swoon-worthy, and their journey from beginning to end, and everywhere in-between, was such a pleasure to ride alongside. Beautiful, breathtaking, heartbreaking and hopeful are just a few words to describe When Darkness Ends. I don’t want to say too much about this beautiful and haunting story of love and second chances. Go in blind, grab a box of tissues and prepare for a bittersweet book hangover from all the feels.

This story left me in a state of wonderment. I didn’t know what to do with myself once I finished reading. This book and these characters stayed with me days after I finished reading, and continue to do so. I can count on my fingers the number of books that have captured my mind, body, and heart this way. When Darkness Ends, is in my estimation, the best book Marni Mann has written to date. Her storytelling is exceptional and she continuously leaves me in awe. She has undoubtedly wrecked me beyond belief. One of my top favorite reads not only of 2021, but ever, and a forever favorite.

I knew by the title that this book would be dark but I wasn't expecting just how dark it was.

If you've read my reviews for the first two books, you know I'm not a fan of authors using horrific real life events in books. Thankfully, while this book does include one, I liked the spin much butter.

Ashe and Pearl meet at college and there is an immediate attraction, however, Pearl does not do relationships. She has zero time for them since she is going to school full-time and basically working as much as she can to take care of her grandmother.

Ashe doesn't let that stop him and he is sooo sweet. He takes whatever little bit of her time he can but he helps her as much as he can as well. Pearl soon eases up and starts to enjoy Ashe.

It helps that her grandmother is essentially Grandmother Willow and gives the best advice. Pearl has certainly needed it especially since her mother was never there for her.

The book is a little confusing because it's set up in "Before" and "After" so you know there is some type of traumatic event. We also get some other POVs that can be a bit worrisome. Unfortunately, as soon as we got Kerry's, I just knew.

The magic of the story is Ashe...he was definitely there for Pearl...and more. I hate what they went through but I loved them as a couple.

The one part that did bother me was how well things worked out. I just can't see that happening.

TOP FAVORITE OF 2021!

Once again Marni Mann has left me speechless with her beautiful writing! This was absolutely PHENOMENAL!

A stunning, heartfelt love story that will shatter you and then put you back together with the most amazing HEA! I am still trying to wrap my head around this shocking and suspenseful story!

It starts off as a normal college romance but don't be fooled! This book had so many layers and so many intricate plot details with the most amazing story telling that will have you guessing at every turn. The book goes back and forth from the present to the past and I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was happening with these characters.

Ashe! My man Ashe! What a hero. There are no words to express how much I loved him. From the beginning we saw how trustworthy and supportive he was of Pearl. However we really don't realize until the end of this book how much he really loved her. My heart WEPT for him. For his pain. For what he endured. Talk about doing everything you can for the one you love. Gah! I'm afraid to say more because I don't want to give any spoilers.

This book had it ALL! Sexy steamy moments, a beautiful romance and chilling suspense with an edge of darkness (I would not call this a dark romance though). Yes there will be moments of absolute agony and pain and torture! At one point my anguish for these characters felt unbearable! Marni gets you through it though with an absolutely remarkable ending that had me crying all the happy tears!

If you want a deeply emotional, sexy and passionate love story filled with suspense then please pick this one up!

Note: This is a complete standalone but it includes spoilers for book 1 in this series. If you were planning on reading book 1 make sure to read it first. I think book 2 could be read in any order.

I can't....I just can't 😭😭😭😭....inspite of this been a beautiful HEA...my heart feels so heavy...
I have always been OBSESSED with Author Mann's books....the Romance with so much of suspense and then heartbreaking moments....
I love how this book connected with previous books...
Ashe and Pearl's story was sweet at times and so filled with difficulty too...they deserved every happiness coming their way.
Ashe was such a beautifully crafted character...he was such a pure soul who sacrifice his whole life for love...waiting to find his lost one.
Pearl...I adored her...she was perfect, inspired of not having anything she still lived her life fullest.

I can't complete my review without my love Dylan 😭❤...he was the one I loved from the start of this series...despite him not being a lead he still has buried himself inside my heart.

The story flowed fluently with to and from from past and present...I love the suspense buildup with their past. Author Marni Mann's writing is just perfect...After When Ashes Fall...this comes close to being my favorite...This book is a top read too but book 1 was am introduction to this beautiful world and will have my heart forever.

I have no words. This story was heartbreaking, beautiful, complex and filled me with such emotion. I fell in love deeply with all of the characters and their thoughtfulness, caring personalities...they lit up the pages. As dark as parts of this book were, what really shone off the pages was the love between Ashe, Pearl, Dylan and her Gran. I loved the depth of the story, the twists in the past and present and the unfaltering loyalty these characters had. As many tears I shed, I smiled just as many times with every hug, shoulder and love given throughout the entire book. I will feel this emotional adventure for days and weeks to come.

What can I say, I'm still waiting for the Marni Mann book that will blow me away but keep falling short. I find her writing good and her stories super interesting but I always feel like her stories are missing something that will take them to the next level. This is Book 3 in the Moments In Boston series. The stories have Boston as the background and the marathon bombing as the catalyst. If you read my review for When Ashes Fall you know I was not a fan of it overall or a fan of using tragedies, especially this one as a plot device. Anyway, Book 2 When We Met was a way better read IMO. When Darkness Ends was good, don't get me wrong, and it was interesting but I still had a few issues with it.

The story is told in multiple POVs of Ashe, Pearl and a third POV, her name is Kerry. And it's also told in two different timelines, past and present. First, I truly loved Ashe, he was just an amazing character. I also liked Pearl a lot. While I understand the purpose of Kerry's POV, I found it distracting, and also there was no closure when it came to her story, it was just used to confuse the reader and advance the main story but once all was revealed, it was pretty much forgotten. I found that the story overall went back and forth between being a romance and a thriller but never quite found it's footing. Also, the author spends so much time in the "past" and by the time everything is revealed in the present timeline, the relationship development and the ending felt extremely rushed.

Now, let's talk about Dylan from When Ashes Fall. Dylan is featured prominently in this story, turns out he's Ashe's best friend, like brother and he and Alix are prominently featured here, contemporaneous with some events in WAF. However, neither Ashe nor Pearl are even mentioned in When Ashes Fall, not once, not by Dylan or Alix. If they were all so close, why were they nowhere to be found in the previous book? The author basically made them up after the fact and tried to insert previous characters into this story just so there was a connection and this could be "Book 3". I found that whole part to be inconsistent.

Overall, In the previous books, the marathon bombing is a true catalyst in the stories, and in this one, Dylan's situation, which really only has an impact if you've read When Ashes Fall, was just inserted here to make the stories connect, but it really had no bearing in the story. Not to mention it creates some continuity issues with WAF. I know, I'm being too picky, lol. But I seriously don't like when there are continuity issues, plus I find this author to be so talented and I desperately want to be blow away by her books! I will say that the audiobook is exquisitely narrated by Erin Mallon and Seb York.

Overall, this kept me engaged but I found it to be all over the place.

Pearl Daniels is an aspiring actress determined to make a better like for herself upon graduating college. Ashe Flynn is a pre-med student who has an innate need to help others. Though both are on a certain path, they find something special together until it all changes.

“You have to realize, you can’t change the outcome. What’s meant to happen between you and Ashe is already written.”

Ashe is a character with patience and a strong sense of loyalty. As for Pearl, she has to learn how to trust. Told in dual POV, the narrative is punctuated by alternating timelines causing a sense of unease due to the contrasting tones. In addition, the short chapters create a quick cadence lending to the race to get answers.

While the storyline structure was uniquely presented, the “after” timeline packed the punch for me. Though a connection was developed between Ashe and Pearl, there were some areas where there could have been more probing to show the impact of the “before” and “after” effects. Overall, I enjoyed this story, but wanted a bit more.

"The door unlocked, and then suddenly, you were there. A Moment. And knew this was...when darkness ends."

When Darkness Ends is a emotionally captivating story that will keep you on the edge of your seat and have you fall head over heels for the amazing characters. Pearl and Ashe are such an incredible couple. Pearl starts off a bit guarded but quickly lets her walls crumble as she falls in love with Ashe. And Ashe, OMG, what an amazing book boyfriend who would do anything for his love and succeeds in winning her heart. And I have to mention Gram who was an absolute scene stealer and her letters had me in tears. I'm not going to share too much about the plot because it is best to go in blind but I loved the ties to the other interconnected standalones (though he Dylan references had my heart breaking all over again) and how the story interwove between past and present. Marni Mann is an incredible storyteller as she managed to give me all the feels and left me feeling gutted and hopeful at the same time. This book was the darkest for me of the three but it also is one that will stay with me long after I've finished it. This story was just brilliant and this entire series has been fantastic so do yourself a favor and pick it up ASAP if you haven't started.

3.75 PEARLY STARS.

Another day and another meh writing that builds up so FINE by the end and another amazing plot.

BUT i wouldn't say i didn't like it though.

Was the writing a little theatrical and could have done with a little work? yes.
Was there something off key in this that i couldn't put a finger on? yes but it was just the romantic front being slow compared to the pain front. so it's just me.
Was it a little predictable to me? yep.
Did i strangely still kinda love it? mhhhmm yes *hides*
I think personally the emotional aspect of it got me.
AND IT GOT ME HARD

let's start with this roller coaster

There was beauty all over Boston, but not a single woman compared to her

Pearl Daniels was a college student pursuing BFA in theater.Working day and night to make a living for her and her grandmother.
One day while she was running late to a study group as always, she bumps into Ashe Flynn. Now when i say it was MOVIE LIKE THEATRICAL.
And guess who hosted the study group?
Ashe's bestfriend and roommate Dylan.

Ashe.
He was like a thunderstorm that came through the city in the middle of winter, the precipitation and thunder so ultimately for that season. i'd hidden from storms all my entire life, never going outside to let the water fall on me.

Pearl all her life knew how to run because at the end of it all one thing she didn't want to be like was her mother, who played with boyfriends and always was buried in drugs.
Her mother,Vanessa even put her down as a collateral for four days to a random junkie because she did not have the money to pay for the drugs she bought.
BUT Ashe wasn't one to back down off a chase.
He really got her doing things like literally living life. She never had eaten a pie other than pumpkin so he ordered literally all the pies there were in the all-night diner just for her to eat and had her take the leftovers and even ordered a new one,her favorite for gran back home.
Now with each day that passed they got closer and closer till they fell in love.

okay that sounds so good but still i am here yet again saying that the way writing got this to ick me is something. BUT i'll look over it because well....idk it just did because the growth redeemed the book to me

They both worked and studied and maintained their relationship so fine. Literally so good.
Ashe grew closer to gran too and as did Pearl and Dylan. i loved it because it was so wholesome ahhh. It was like a little group of 3.Pearl would make breakfast for Dylan and Ashe and herself every morning she'd stay over.
After a play on modern Romeo and Juliet Pearl gets herself signed up by an agent.
While on the other hand Ashe gets into his preferred med schools.

"I'm a little worried Gran she was supposed to be back yesterday "
"yesterday?" she gasped."that's not like my dollface. She's always late but not by this much."

Pearl and Ashe were meant to go to Manhattan so she could work through what apartment to get for her and Gran to stay. but Ashe comes in a day before and says he cannot make it because it was his dad's 60th bday.
She barges out of the apartment , goes to her house , kisses gran goodbye and they never hear back from her after that.

Now what to see is that this book is multi pov.
You're gonna be reading three different point of views and a past and present.
Ashe and Pearl will be the before and after and Kerry would be the ongoing present throughout the whole book.
There is a whooping 11 year gap between the before and after.
Honestly the first half of this book is a meh.
But the second half caught up SO FAST.

I won't spoil the plot because

I have never been so... indecisive gathering my feelings for a book because the way i was ready to drop the book at first but now i really like it.
the first 50-55% was certainly pretty much not it for me, i skimmed a lot .
But then the second half rolled around and things got actually pretty good!
The book surely goes from being a wholesome light romance to almost dark quite fast.
The pain and hurt i felt reading this oh my god
EVERYTHING HURTS.

All in all, me powering through the first half was SO worth it when i finished.

also to anyone who wants to read it please take it in consideration that the book has discussions about drugs, a doll kink, sexual assault, kidnapping and manipulation in it.

There was the sounds of heavy footsteps above. The pounding and sawing followed ,filling my head with so many questions .The door unlocked ,and then suddenly ,you were there .A moment. And i knew this was... when darkness ends

When Darkness Ends is the third book in the 'Moments in Boston' series but it can totally be read as a standalone. It's emotional, it's different, it's unique and it's a bit darker than the other books in the series. It was a book that I couldn't put down. I don’t know what I was expecting but this wasn’t it. The past and present kind of had me confused at the beginning, but I trusted the process and where Marni Mann was going to take me, even if it might break and ruin me.

The before story focused on Ashe and Pearl when they were in college. They had a chance meeting, but Ashe was smitten right from the get go. When Pearl shows up at his home for a study group, he knows he has to do what he can to find her again. They are 2 people from very different worlds studying very different subjects, but Ashe breaks down any and all walls Pearl has. Ashe is what book boyfriends are made of. He is pretty darn perfect and supports Pearl and her life choices. I just loved him. I honestly thought he would end up being more of a douche, but he wasn't. He was just perfection. Even when he made one decision that kind of skewed my vision of him, it was for a good reason. I understood it, but didn't want to.

And Pearl was just a vision. She thought she knew where her life was headed, but did everything in her power to make the most of her life, her talent and life with Gran. She was the daughter/granddaughter you wished you had supporting you when you needed help the most. She knew hard work and she knew what she needed to do in order to survive. Luckily, she found a man that understood where she came from too. I just loved these two together, but I loved Gran and her gentle power she showed in the scenes she was in. Her presence was a spark on the page that brought light to Pearl in the darkness.

"Baby, love doesn't shackle you; it makes you fly.

The After was a bit of the darkness to the light of the Before. This part confused me and had me hurting and questioning everything I thought I knew. But like I said before, I was trusting the process that Ms Mann was taking me on. I won't go into too much of the After because I think that would ruin the journey for the reader. Go in blind, or as blind as you can and feel all the emotions of the story. Experience where the writer takes you and how she brings light into the darkness. This book is a bit more suspenseful than the previous two, but it was the beauty of the storytelling that really drew me in and kept me turning those pages.

Overall, this story is unique in the way it is told and I absolutely fell in love with the characters Before and After. But boy, was it a complex journey I didn't expect and had my emotions all over the place. Beautiful, difficult, unexpected twists and just wow! Marni Mann always brings something new and different and surprises me. Don't miss this one!

"You think I pulled you out of the darkness. But, Pearl, you pulled me out too."

I feel like I crossed a line between good and evil each time the story flipped timelines from Before (told in both Pearl and Ashe’s points of view) and After (told in Ashe’s point of view). A painful and heart-wrenching drama with dark overtones – nightmarish at times -- that was extremely sad and distressing.

Pearl Daniels and Ashe Flynn were both such wonderful characters to get-to-know. I absolutely fell in love right along with the two of them in the beauty of their story. What happened suddenly and came later was very disturbing and crushed my heart into a million pieces. Marni Mann certainly knows how to turn on the tears and break a heart. Thank goodness, she also knows how to mend hearts as well.

Like the previous two books in the series, the horrors of the Boston Marathon in 2013 are revisited. Characters from When Ashes Fall make re-appearances. Again, a terrible and heartbreaking event.

Between the Before and After, there’s an eleven-year lapse in time. As you might well imagine, many things change in those years, and there’s not a lot of happiness to be shared. Lives are completely changed -- never to be the same. All I could hold onto was the word “perseverance.”

Minutes, hours and days – even years may slip away from us, but love is the road to our destiny. What is meant to be will be.

no because I am simply unwell. how does Marni Mann do it? A serious question, this is book 2 of 2 that I’ve read by her and I am both wrecked and believing in love. I genuinely was at the edge of my seat here, I felt so much love, I didn’t think When Ashes Fall could be topped but quite honestly this has got to be one of my favorite books I read this year next to When Ashes fall. All I keep thinking is love. just love.

Anyways I have a huge lump in my throat that needs to be swallowed down because I- this book. This series. 100000/10

Have you ever read a book where you have no words to describe how amazing it was? Or how just omg it was? Yea I’m there right now. I’m not sure any of my words will do this masterpiece justice. I go in to Ms. Mann’s work knowing I’m going to have to use my brain. And use it I did. I actually had to set a point last night to put this book down because otherwise I wouldn’t have gone to bed. Ashe and Pearl. Man, wow, holy crap, and finally heart stopping love are the words I could use to describe them and this story. And a whole bunch more I can’t think of! Get ready, dive in, and get ready for a story!

A POWERFUL & HEARTBREAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY!
The word heartbreak is absolutely the first word that comes to mind when I think of ANY book in this Moments In Boston series by Marni Mann. This woman has brought tears to my eyes on multiple occasions while reading EACH book! But this book, When Darkness Ends broke my soul and then piece by piece Marni put it back together again but it's crooked and jagged from all the pain that exists within these pages and it's not completely whole but I have to say....this is my FAVORITE from this series and this hero and heroine are among my favorite that I've ever read! This was also the first one that I wasn't able to guess the major plot events ahead of time. Marni kept me completely addicted to this story and on the edge of my seat, trying to predict what happened or would happen the entire time!

You will cry but before you cry you will fall in love with Ashe & Pearl's love story! Be prepared if you've already read the first two books of this series; you will see a familiar face or two. Ashe was absolutely EVERYTHING a hero should be. Generous, kind, sexy, charming, determined!! Pearl will have you rooting for her every single step of the way! This girl was fierce, ambitious, honest and beautiful inside & out! The way these two seamlessly fit together from the first moment was just breathtaking to witness!

I will say this! **If you have triggers pertaining to sexual abuse, please proceed with caution. This one was definitely a tough read. I have no triggers so the darkness within these pages didn't affect me the way they would someone who has gone through those traumatic events!

That's all I'm giving you, I am a firm believer that you should read the book in order to experience the journey! AND Pearl & Ashe deserve you to experience every bit of their story from start to finish!

“You think I pulled you out of the darkness. But, Pearl, you pulled me out too.”

This series is downright addicting. The feels and the mystery, leave me with sensory overload.

Here’s what you need to do... stop reading reviews. Go to the first book in this series, read it. Then the second and lastly, this beauty. The series ...5 stars. Each book... 5 stars. Every character... 5 stars. While they are all stand-alones, you will want this experience of every book to guide you. And readers, you will want to feel this experience the was it was intended...BLIND. Buckle up!

Thank you Valentine PR for the arc.

An epic ending to Marni's prolific Moments in Boston series. When Darkness Ends will keep you guessing and gasping until the very end.

Marni's storytelling love Ashe and Pearl's was masterful as well as heartbreaking. It's so difficult to review this book without giving it away. It's more suspenseful that we're used to with other Moments in Boston stories but not out of character for Marni's previous series that are on the darker side.

Ooh my goodness! Mann’s latest offering in the standalone Moments In Boston series is everything: darker, more angst-ridden, and so addictive that I pulled an all-nighter. Mann’s woven larger-than-life characters into a trio narrative, shifting between the past and present, the equally-weighted plots coming together perfectly. I have no idea how she managed to execute such brilliance because it does sound a tad convoluted, but believe me when I say it is not.

Whilst I thought the story was panning out smoothly, Mann threw a shattering curveball into the mix. But before this happened, I got to know two of the protagonists who took me by storm. We also get to meet Pearl’s Gran, listen to her advice and learn about the reason behind their tight relationship. Controlling the little time she has, Pearl’s mapped her future out. She is gentle and yet tough, hard-working yet loving and everything I look for in a heroine. What I never expected was her failure to resist Ashe’s charms. How could she not fall for this gorgeous guy with all his positive traits? That said, young love is a beautiful thing but facing the hurdles they had to cope with, the before and after, drove their story forward with page-turning tension.

Young Ashe, older Ashe, ladies, he’s mine! I adored the way he wooed Pearl, giving her confidence, having her back, convincing her to try new things. Mann gave me all the sensory feels—literally. Mouth-watering scenes, watching Pearl do what she does best. Observing Ashe in the now, his suffering and I couldn’t possibly talk about the third player whose situation tied me up in knots! Back to Ashe and his best mate. It’s difficult to put into words how their friendship warmed my heart or how the unexpected crushed it.

This suspenseful romance all boils down to the punches, pacing and Mann’s superb brand of storytelling. Not only does her writing touch the reader’s emotional core, but also leaves a sense of closure. And BRAVO for the twist, Mann! I thought I could suss most of them out, but I didn’t see that one coming. When Darkness Ends is not-to-be-missed and in its genre, the best book I've read this year.
