When news anchor Prometheus's ratings slide, he's faced with an ultimatum – get more viewers, or lose his job. So, with his favourite holiday, April Fool's Day, looming, he comes up with the perfect plan – a prank so compelling, everyone in the Colony will be watching his show. Until his made-up news story turns out to be true…
USA Today Bestselling Author Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish. She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray-drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below. Sensationalist spin? No - Demelza tends to take a camera with her so she can capture and share the moment later; shipwrecks, sharks and all. Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world. The Ocean's Gift series was her first foray into fiction, followed by the Nightmares trilogy. She swears the Mel Goes to Hell series ambushed her on a crowded train and wouldn't leave her alone.
I loved this series, it was so quick to read, packed with information and sexy characters to love and adore. In the final book of the series, we meet Prometheus a news archer who might lose his job, and Dora a scientific doctor who might have discovered something very unique. There story was very different and unique and I really enjoyed getting to know them throughout this book. I am hoping there will be more series set in the Colony. A great sci-fi romantic series to binge read.
Received a copy from the author herself for an honest review and this does not affect my review or rating of the book thank you!
I love these Colony holiday short stories. I hope we get more similar ones, even if we are out of holidays. Prometheus is a news anchor who is about to become irrelevant because there is so little news to report on now that the war is ended. Pandora (Dora) is a geologist who has the questionable luck to have a large number of huge boxes of rock samples deposited into her office by her boss. To get her office back, she will have to do the preliminary analysis of the specimens.
So, Prometheus sets up what is supposed to be an April Fool's joke about the discovery of a new alien species hoping to generate interest to save his position - never thinking that he was reporting an actual event. Dora finally figures out that the fungus she thought was a nuisance is actually a life form from the samples she was testing. Samples that were from a planet thought to be uninhabitable, taken by scientists she has never heard of: Prometheus, Vulcan, Achilles, and Ghost...Hmmm. This is going to get interesting for everyone.
I was given a copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
Prometheus is book 6 in the Colony: Holiday series of bite sized stories centered around a colony of intermingling aliens and humans as they get to know one another. The books can be read standalone and in any order. We get to drop in on all of the previous characters in this series, so you'll get a little happiness from that if you've read them, but you won't hurt any if you haven't. It is written in third person omniscient perspective from both leads' (alternating) point of view.
This book is a great followup to Valentine because it is pretty humorous from start to finish. I laughed quite a few times and really enjoyed the ride that both Pandora and Prometheus get to go through for this particular bite sized story. Their names are just icing on the cake. Cute little romance that neither expects but rounds out the whole series nicely.
If you like aliens, steam, getting to see a horrible boss get his deserts, and a hefty dose of friendship, this is a great book for you! Definitely a must read if you've enjoyed any of the rest of this series.
To pump up his ratings, news anchor Prometheus cooks up an April’s Fool con with his buddies. In the meantime, scientist Pandora makes a strange discovery. It seems the fake news about the discovery of alien life is true! To his credit, Prometheus plays it straight when he realizes his fake story isn’t fake at all.
This may be due in part to his attraction to the scientist. So while trying to report the story fairly, he is also trying to advance his prospects with Pandora. But the news keeps getting in the way! However, this is a love story. Eventually Prometheus and Pandora manage to get together and create their own sweet love story. And the end is very satisfying for all concerned!
Prometheus is a short story perfect to fit in before bedtime. So visit the Colony and get to know some more of the fascinating residents. Five stars!
I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Prometheus, a TV news announcer, decides to rejuvenate his flagging ratings by a spectacular April Fool's story - alien life is discovered. Unknown to him, at the same time, alien life is discovered by a geology lab manager, Pandora Box. Coincidentally, the prank is set on Gamma, based on a video Prometheus and his friends, Vulcan, Achilles, and Ghost, had taken as they collected samples. Indeed, it is a successful newscast, and Prometheus gets his ratings back, and Pandora gets fame as the biologist who reported on the alien life. The prank has a very happy ending as Pandora and Prometheus discover they are fated mates and fall madly in love. The book is pretty stand-alone, but by reading the series you'll be familiar with the setting and other characters. They are all HEA, fated-love-found romances and very entertaining and enjoyable.
Listened on YouTube. I listened to this without having read the other books in the series. I don't think I missed much. There were references to previous scenes, but not much that would have large impact on this particular story. This was a short amusing tale. The romance was a bit rushed, but otherwise the story was worth reading. I certainly listened on the right day!
3.5 stars. It would have been more but ....
As a scientist, there were many points that had me cringing, but I just kept telling myself, just let it go for the story. It's really hard to let go of more than 30 years of training. Unknown samples, no chain of custody, working at night without anyone's knowledge, no biosecurity, radioactive and biohazard contamination of equipment and laboratory. Then, press release without authorization. Wow! Someone would be out of a job and never get another!
Another funny, cute, short read in the colony world the author has constructed. I appreciated that, whilst it started as a joke to the male lead, Prometheus, he never ridiculed the female lead, Dora, and made a point of rebuking her misogynistic male colleagues.
I like that they approached the issue from different perspectives but still managed to arrive at a similar conclusion and to build a relationship.
The story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a lovely short read. I received a complimentary copy from the author but this is my honest review.
A great, delightful story. Prometheus and his group of fun-loving friends cook up an April's Fools Day prank. Pandora works with a group of misogynistic jerks. It turned out that Prometheus had more depth than the initial prank led me to expect. And Pandora had more scientific curiosity than all of her colleagues combined. The story of Prometheus and Pandora is magical.
Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Romantic. Scary. Tear-jerker. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.
I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.
Prometheus is desperate to keep his news anchor job, he has heard rumblings of his potential replacement if he can't get his rating up. With April Fool's Day coming up, he decides an April Fool's day prank (with the help of some friends) might just be what he needs, but what if his prank turns out to be true? I enjoyed Prometheus and Pandora's story (both were easy to like), although those lab guys need a kick in the pants. I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received, and giving my thoughts and opinions on it.
This was another good story set in the Colony. Prometheus is lost during the war but is found a few years later and taken to the colony. Pandora is notified that he is alive and goes to see him. He is not whole and his memories are gone so it tugs at your heart. You see them go thru their individual problems until everything works out. They end up getting back together and making the best of the situation. I loved it can’t wait for more stories from the Colony.
The finale in the Colony: Holiday book series and just as enjoyable as all of them have been. What starts as an April Fool's Day joke turns into a real news story when the unexpected happens. But will the Doctor fall for a hoax? Will the newsanchor have more to report on than he originally thought?
Demelza Carlton has done it again, she has written another short story about alien love in the colonies that is so full of interesting characters and action it feels like a full novel. This book is stand alone as is all the books in the series with plenty of crossover of characters to tie them together.
Prometheus is handsome and popular, but his seat as anchorman on the nightly news may be in danger if he doesn’t come up with a very good story, and quick. He and his friends come up with an April Fools day prank, a stunning story about the discovery of alien life. Pandora is a geologist who just happens to be studying samples from the expedition used in Prometheus’s story. Maybe it isn’t a joke after all. They meet to discuss the possibilities, and before you know it, the story is not the only hot thing in town. This is an entertaining story with likeable characters, and sadly the end of the series. I enjoyed each of these quick reads about love in space.
What can I say? Great minds think alike - even if one is playing a prank and the other is deep in heavy scientific research. The important thing - it's ALIVE!!
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved it! I am a short on time. I had fun reading this series & will reread many times. I really liked reading about the colony and it's different areas. I just kept reading to see who would be doing what next. They are good stories.
