The former Jane Lemon’s overnight transformation into a duchess, thanks to her father’s deathbed maneuverings, has been something of a shock. She’s spent most of her life in London, where her mother’s free-spirited salons brought her into contact with a world of discreet, privileged sensuality. Now she has to deal with a stuffy duke who accuses her of being a tarnished woman. He wants a duchess who will make love in the dark of night, without any imaginative embellishments, for the sole purpose of producing an heir. If only he were willing to bend a little her way…
Cornelius, Duke of Sidmouth, has his limits. He assumed his arranged marriage to a Cornwall heiress would go as smoothly as his well-run estate, Bocollyn. A man expects decorum and modesty in his bride, not unbridled sensuality and wantonness. He can’t believe she left him on their honeymoon. When he returns home, she’s already there, in charge of his stables and living in his retired groomsman’s cottage. Now he has to start all over and woo his duchess.
Will she give him a second chance? Will he be able to suspend his pride a little to give her what she needs?
Andrea K. Stein is a native Ohioan, the daughter of a trucker and an artist. She grew up a scribbler. The stories just spilled out--the pony escaped, the window magically shattered. Not her fault.
Twenty years as a journalist couldn't stifle the yarns. Yacht delivery up and down the Caribbean only increased the flow. Now those tales celebrate romance and adventure on the high seas.
This was very short story about a success whose husband thought she was too wanton. When she was 15 a woman friend of her Mother's seduced her and had her pose for some scandalous illustrations. She was a virgin though but he didn't believe her because she knew what she wanted in bed. He wanted her to be more boring I guess. Silly story and misunderstandings. Not something I would choose to read about again. There are no intimate acts in the book, just the thought of them. Free in KU but just not my cup of tea!

This is the fourth book in the series & could be read on its own. However if you read the previous book like me you may have wanted to find out about The Duke of Sidmouth’s sudden marriage & subsequent estrangement – all is revealed. An entertaining read of misunderstandings & lack of trust. I loved how the relationship between Cornelius & Jane developed. A well written book with strong characters & a story that captivated me, I also loved the verbal banter & how they found their HEA My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Having read the previous books in this series, The Duke's List is not what I was expecting. The Duke of Sidmouth is a straight-laced Cornishman through and through and discovering his wife's knowledge about sensual matters, puts him on the defensive, causing him to make accusations on their honeymoon, resulting in an estrangement between the couple. Having promised her father on his deathbed that he would marry Jane Lemon, there really wasn't time to learn to know much about each other before the wedding. However, having his wife living in the head groom's quarters puts him in a bad light and is cause for gossip among his friends and in his household. Jane is a survivor, and like most women with her experiences, she is stronger and more determined than she looks. The stand-off looks set to continue, but the arrival of newcomers to the scene turns things around for the couple. Although witty, there is also an element of fear and sadness in this novel, but it, fortunately, does come to a good conclusion. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Cornelius Sebastian, Duke of Sidmouth is living without his duchess, a problem he has yet to figure out the answer. One day, a year ago, he was single & running the dukedom but the next thing he knew he was marrying a lady by special license in the chapel on his estate & the immediately left on their honeymoon trip through the Continent. But one night in Venice she packed up, left & returned to his estate alone 6 weeks into their marriage.
Miss Jane Lemon's father was the owner of one of Cornwell's most profitable tin mines. When her father was on his deathbed, he insisted on meeting with the duke and soon after he was buried, the duke took her to his estate where they were married. But on the honeymoon trip, he accused her of not being chaste and she pack her things and left alone to return to his estate. She has been living in the groomsman's cottage every since she stormed back after the night in Venice.
The misunderstandings, learning to believe in one another, being able to show passion & love was a fun mix with the bantering, wooing & rekindling of the relationship. I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.
3.5 stars I have enjoyed all the stories in this series, however, this one wasn’t quite up to the standard of the longer books. I did wonder what had happened on the Sidmouth’s honeymoon and in this book explains it all. Jane, the duchess was a strong but stubborn person, as was her husband, the duke. However, if only they talked openly to each other, it would have saved a lot of heartache. It also illustrates the different standards of behaviour that was acceptable for gentlemen but not for ladies.
The Duke’s List (Men of the Squadron #4) Written by Andrea K. Stein
We met Cornelius, Duke of Sidmouth and his new Duchess in Stein's Pride of Valor. Sidmouth has returned home from his honeymoon only to find his missing Duchess living in the Groomsman’s Cottage. Ugh, he’s a Duke for goodness sake how embarrassing! At least he knows where she is, now to try to woo (convince) her to move into Bocollyn House his Ducal home. In truth, that plan isn’t working out as well as he had hoped, for every half step forward (he isn’t that good at wooing) he ends up two steps back. Now it’s become almost a contest between these two.
Jane Lemon was not planning on becoming a Duchess, but her father’s death bed deal had Sidmouth marrying Jane then quickly leaving to the continent, Venice to be exact and that is where this whole marriage thing fell apart. Jane had spent a lot of time in London with her mother and her mother’s friends. To be polite Jane knew more about a number of things that most ladies * ahem * not normally have been privy to before marriage.
So his household knew, his cousin Harriett knew, his ward Nicolas knew, oh probably everyone in Falmouth knew that there was something going on at Bocollyn.
Reading this was turning the tables of men knowing best and women only knowing about running a home in that it’s the hero who isn’t handling this marriage thing well. From the Duchess playing with the Dukes heart and emotions, to the Duke not knowing what is going to happen next. When the Travelling Acting Troupe arrives and it’s decided what play will be performed it’s another thing for Sidmouth to deal with.
This was a delightful read where the Duke has to figure out how to get his wife back into their home. Readers can’t help but giggle and laugh with (not at) poor Sidmouth. As he tries to win back his Duchess and make his marriage work we learn something’s about Cornelius’ upbringing, how jealousy, a list, a little black book and an instigator play roles in bringing these two together.
Cornelius, Duke of Sidmouth, foolishly accused his new wife of not being an innocent. His reasoning was that she was too sensual in the bedchamber. Jane left him in Venice and went back to Cornwall to live in the groomsman’s cottage on the estate. He knows he has made a mistake. What he doesn’t know is how to fix it. Once he reaches the limit of his patience, he presents her with a list of things he expects of her as his duchess. In turn, she gives him a list of things he must do for her to set things straight. This ought to be good!
Cornelius is good at all the things that make him a duke, but dealing with his stubborn (he thinks) is beyond him. Jane is a free spirit to a degree, and stands her ground. There are friends and family all around give Cornelius advice. The lists are the key, in fact, If Cornelius can complete Jane’s list, it might just result in a rousing happily ever after. This is a funny heart-warming story with fantastic characters and a great addition to the series.

Will her secrets and his doubts tear them apart ...
While reading Pride of Valor, like many of the readers, my interest was piqued by Sidmouth and his runaway bride. And I longed to know what was behind their estrangement, when both appear as nice and interesting persons. So I was just happy when I saw this book to be soon released. So there was no question if I would read it or not.
This story takes place where the previous book did end, Sidmouth and Jane are still living apart, unable to mend the fence broken by his careless words. Jane came to care for her unexpected husband, yet she wants more from him than being a vessel for the next generation. She wants him, wholly, not just the titled peer, she aspires to wake the man behind the mask. But will her secrets and shame be the end of them. Sidmouth agreed to wed an unknown woman because it was asked by his late sire. But he was not prepared for this one. She stirs longing for more all the while unsettling him with her inner sensuality. But he can’t shake the idea such a sensuous bride can not be the innocent he believed she was. Thus the harsh words which made her flee. Up now to him to mend the path he has wrecked by his doubts and assumptions.
This novella is a lovely addition to this series, it was fun to see an other side of Sidmouth, a man with his dilemmas and misgivings who must revisit his way of thinking. With Jane, a woman who will never settle for mild life when she calls for passion, they have to draw new edges and rules. 4.5 stars
My only regret is I would have loved it to be longer.

I have been granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Sidmouth is a Duke who has accused his new Duchess Jane of not being pure on their honeymoon as she is far too sensuous! Jane is complicated she knows a lot about sex and the positions but not with a man! Sidmouth wants a lady in the streets and a courtesan or freak in the bedroom! He has a list and so does she! He meets or beats the things on her list and definitely keeps her wanting more! There is another person who wants to cause mischief and I certainly didn't suspect but will they? Sidmouth and Jane love each other and they handle this person aka would be blackmailer with aplomb after he is a Duke! I cringed at Jane's history she was too young to know future repercussions and was taken advantage of by someone who should have known better didn't sit right with me! But do they get a HEA absolutely yes!!
couldn't get into it. stopped at 13%. my fault. i didn't realize it was a #3.5. as i read it, i felt as if i'd come in the middle of the story and it turns out i did. in case you're asking yourself why this person would unknowingly read a #3.5 book in a series, i made a deal with myself to read the first book that comes up on my recommendations. it's been a wild (and mostly terrible) journey but i've committed even though there are no stakes. i started with pride and prejudice and it's led me to space fiction, shifter romances, approximately 200 self-published romances, and now we're on regency romances? crazy.
My question for the author is, "why not fill in the blanks on this mishmash of a story?" It sounded like it would be a good one. Sadly, I think the author jotted down thoughts that meandered around and around, forgetting that a story needed development. Sooo disappointing. At the 75% mark, I gave up and skimmed. Do yourself a favor and skip it. As I will anymore by this author.
When trust in the partners of a relationship is missing, then problems of magnitude raise their ugly heads - and this is what Jane and Cornelius are faced with. How they overcome this is clever, to say the least and it all made this story a wonderful one which I have enjoyed very much.
The Duke believes his wife is not an innocent. Julia became his duchess at the insistence of her father but she does love her husband. After his unfounded accusations on their honeymoon she leaves him in Venice and returns to his English estate. He returns home and finds her living in the stable masters cottage not in his home. He wants her to be a quiet wife while she wants him to be more forthcoming in their marital bed.
Matters take a turn when a secret Julia has been keeping comes to light. Will their happiness ever find its way into both of their hearts or will they decide to go their separate ways?
Great, quick read. Married, but estranged, Cornelius, Duke of Sidmouth and Jane (formerly Lemon) have returned from their honeymoon and are living in different houses on the Duchal property. Loved these characters and the writing style of the story was engaging. Couldn't put it down.
