I’m gonna be honest, I loved the entire novel until the extras.
I’ll get to that at the end
As for what I love, the story, the yearning, the love, and of course the master/disciple relationship.
“"I've always loved you..." "Because you are everything to me, my only miracle, unchanged for nine thousand years."”
The love at the end was so rewarding. You could really feel the dedication between Gong Wei and Xu Shuangce. It was very much “I would wait a thousand years for you, reincarnating over and over.”
Gong Wei is super cute too, he’s very naive and cute one moment and then cut throat and serious the next. It was interesting to see him grappling with his conflicting emotions as well. He deals with his own humanity and questioning if he just reflects what others feel or if he has his own genuine feelings.
“"The love and hate in this world are constant, like the yin and yang of Taichi, all part of the natural laws. People receive hatred because of misunderstandings, and naturally, they will also receive love when misunderstandings are cleared”
The actual plot was very good but towards the end I started getting a little annoyed. It feels like they are fighting the ghost prince forever! He just never backs down and it gets kind of annoying. But I did like all of the twists and turns into the plot, though they hit you back to back.
AND NOW THE EXTRAS? After all that, I thought I would get fluff between the mc and ml but the extras mostly fixated on the ghost prince’s story. I hate that guy and I had no interest in his sadistic obsessions with a certain side character. On top of that, there was basically no fluff or even story fixated on the mcs in the extras? When they briefly appear, Gong Wei is just obsessing over a new gods beauty and playing mahjong with him, ignoring Xu Shuangce.. they are clearly in love and Gong Wei just loves beauty but after the entire plot, that’s all I get?
However, the beginning and middle were good enough for me to rate this a 4. Read it if you like cultivation novels that portray moral debates, psychological aspects, yearning for thousands of years, and of course a Shizun lover.
Lighthearted reading while I'm making my way through 太岁 Tai Sui . This is a xianxia or xuanhuan novel with the main character being 'reborn' after he died 16 years ago and lots of mysteries about his death and current state of things. He has a stoic nemesis who is actually his love interest (slightly similar tropes to Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: Mo Dao Zu Shi (Novel) Vol. 1 but that's about where the similarities end).
The usual tropes about cultivation, evil/good, the Dao, etc are all here in this one. This is a very melodramatic (dogblood) book and the beginning was VERY intriguing because it wasn't a traditional transmigration/rebirth novel. The mystery of the strange events and plot twists are very fun to unravel.
I have only read one of the author's other books, Breaking Through the Clouds 破云, which is probably her most famous one and it is very different from this book. The only similarity is the rather labyrinthian plot. However, once the truth was unveiled, my interest dwindled a bit because it was mostly about beating the villain. I think that in the hands of someone like Shui Qian Cheng, the melodrama of the whole story who have been utilized for maximum angst effect lol.
Still, it was fun to read this because I was in the mood for melodrama and xuanhuan stuff.
Unexpectedly plottwisty xianxia, very enjoyable; it's really not as genric as the beginning may suggest. It's been a long while since I last enjoyed a xianxia novel so much.
It may have been due to the translation because I think the site I read it from was MTL but there were times that I questioned my own intelligence because I wasn't sure I understood what exactly was going on. After further reading, I think the story is just really convoluted. This book is definitely not for beginner's and there's a lot of info dumping in the first two chapters. We get a glimpse of what happened 16 years ago, we get the background of the person who the MC has now taken over and the broken engagement and then suddenly the MC's in a town battling a ghost cultivator, again all in the first two chapters. The only time there's a bit of time to settle into the story without a bunch of twists and battles happening is when the MC accidentally becomes the disciple of the ML. I liked that the author had a big vision for this novel and I saw what she was trying to do but I do think the execution could have been better. There's too many timelines and illusions to juggle to have made this a pleasant reading experience.
Summary: The MC was killed by the ML 16 years ago after the MC attempted to assassinate the ML. The MC is reborn into the body of a half-demon and he's trying to figure out the mystery of a ghost cultivator who has similar techniques to his past self while trying to not get captured by the ML and trying to get back in contact with his old friends.
!favoritado! (vou ter que ajustar a data de finalização mais tarde, porque acabei na segunda, 9/9)
Você quer romance policial? Poyun e Tunhai. Você quer romance com sci-fi? Huitian. Você quer romance com ABO e apocalipse zumbi? Undead. Você quer romance histórico ou de cultivo? The Sword Named No Way Out.
Anyway, maravilhoso! Quero mais 😭

du kaixun they can never make me like you. and ig it's probably a bit hypocritical of me considering that i kind of liked the ghost crown prince and xuan jinghe but "No amount of accumulated merits can compare to my eternal greed for you” and "I will follow you from the highest heavens to the depths of the underworld, like a shadow to its form, like a festering sore to its bone; until you once again, as the legends tell, appear before me in a grand celebration, dressed in finery, to marry me in the depths of hell. You are my eternal delusion." are far more appealing to me than turning the person you like into a mechanical puppet for absolutely no reason AT ALL, abusing them all the while and then throwing a hissy fit when you learned that your "beloved" had feelings for your older brother who treated him like a human being (WHICH HE WAS HELLO?????) and not a machine and loved him, and properly cared for him.
the main couple was cute tho. loved them.

DNF - at 15%. I don’t like the way this story flows. Perhaps the translation comes across as choppy or the author writes in a style that seems a bit over the top.
I think it has a lot of potential but I also find the premise too similar to MDZS - don’t come at me.
1. Sudden rebirth 16 years later into an unknown young person. 2. Cold ascetic ML who is assumed to hate the MC by the MC. 3. Sudden attacks all pointing to the original body of MC taking revenge and drawing the ML to be more invested.
I didn’t read much further than the whole Mirror World fiasco because it just became draggy.
This may have been a good book but unfortunately it just couldn’t keep my attention.
Whoah, picked it up at the end of 2024 for something "light" to read in between, but it turned on to be fulled with action, twists and turns and lots of emotions. There is a lot of funny moments in this novel, which greatly balances more serious ones. I liked very much extra stories also! Many great characters in this novel and side couples are interesting and fun to read about! Chceck this novel out if you have time!
honestly i have no idea why the ratings are so low because i thoroughly enjoyed this! ghost crown prince ended up stealing my heart in the extra chapters i do love a TRULY toxic unhinged possessive "you are my eternal delusion" yandere wowow HOT DAMN
This is so freaaaaking sad. The translation is pretty stiff or maybe the original version is not that well verse into story telling. But the plot… 4 full stars for plot. The plot from start to the middle to the end is mind blowing. It’s hard to see another plot like this.
didn't connect emotionally with the characters so it was a pretty boring read, even despite the plot twists (which didn't surprise me that much) didn't read ch99-end
"Xu Bai, can I move to the East Heaven Temple after returning to the heaven?"
"Can."
"Then... can I move tomorrow?"
"No."
"Why!"
I love cute endings :D (it was good, but i got a little less invested after the "mystery" was solved and they just had to kill off the dude that was causing stuff. Also, the timelines are TOO much for me... i think i'm just dumb tho. Little fox Gong Wei will always be the best, so cuteee)
I know I said slow-burn romances, but my bros... 9 thousand years?? (which barely felt like 9 thousand years bc the characters didn't change and the author said it was 9 thousand years, so its 9 thousand years...)
I originally saw this on the same translation site as 2ha and Yuwu, but it wasn't fully translated, so finally MTLed the rest before I forgot everything!
--the beginning, like the other reviewers say, is very strongly like Modao; except nobody can be Wei Wuxian except WWX, so I'm very happy it veered away from that quickly
--that being said, the MC is very clearly inhuman (spoiler: he's a mirror god who randomly turns into a fox and befriends his ML, which is adorable in the flashbacks)
--if THAT were the story, I'd give it 5 stars. Hell, I even love the Inception-like plot twist abt them all being stuck in a dream for most of the story
--but the author seems to be a) most coherent in author notes, not when telling their story and b) it has the usual problems of awful smut and the ML being cold and abusive-seeming for no reason other than doing the dramatic plot twist and turn-about later. Like, no. If your guy first hits the cinnamon roll and then is shown being cute w them, I'm gonna remember the hits
--td'lr a lot of excellent ideas that you want to just shake up like a kaleidoscope and see if anything more coherent emerges
