ExtractWe started making episodes and soon discovered that we had a sensation on our hands, a masterpiece that was born out of my perfect friendship with Ollie. It was also important that we maintained our friendship, as we would be appearing together on ‘JOLLY’ as friends, whereas in ‘Korean Englishman’ Ollie was only the videographer. It’s like I always say, friendship is like a garden, plant carrots and you’ll get carrots, plant potatoes and you’ll get potatoes, plant erroneous information in a Wikipedia page and it’ll eventually make it into a book, meaning said erroneous information on Wikipedia can now be cited, which is how rumours start.
Reviews‘The greatest book I have ever read. I couldn’t have written it better myself.’ - Ollie Kendal
“Hilarious’ - Dave Scott, Ohakune Carrot Adventure Park (Carrotland)
‘That sounds like an almighty waste of time’ - Ollie’s Dad
‘I really didn’t know what I was signing up for when I became your friend’ - Josh Carrot (Author)
‘This is hands down the best and most accurate autobiography I've ever read.
I laughed so hard tears ran down my leg! Anyone that knows Jolly or The Korean Englishman will immediately recognize Ollie’s humor throughout the book. All I could hear every time I stopped to laugh was Josh laughing and saying ‘you’re an idiot’ to Ollie. I love British humor and I love these young men. These young men have made this pandemic less depressing for this single mom and I appreciate it so very much. Well worth the cost of the kindle version.
I saw the video, it was uploaded 3 minutes ago and as one does i clicked on it without second thoughts, as i watched till the end, i knew that i had to buy the book, i rushed to Amazon and bought it, again without second thoughts, without knowing that i was buying one of a masterpieces in literary world. This book made me laugh out loud on almost every page. The inside jokes & subtle easter eggs were hilarious. It also made me tear up a bit at the message from Ollie to Josh when he apologizes for writing an autobiography for him. Jolly are one of funniest people i know and this book definitely lives upto it.
This is perhaps the greatest book written of all time. Not only does the plot keep you hooked, the astounding language and character of each chapter is groundbreaking. I dare even say that Josh is the best author of this century, and to learn about his life through his own words, and definitely not Ollie’s, feels like a gift from the gods. My neck brace almost shattered from how shockingly amazing this book is and I admit I now have a strong desire to go on a road trip across the U-Stat and have a carrot cake smashed in my face. And oh how Legamusaurus Rex grew on me as a character! I hated him in the beginning, and I just wanted Muncho to live in peace with Josh and Ollie forever. BUT! That organic dinosaur definitely softens up towards the end of the book and I can see myself in him. What a profoundly important character. I love how Rex is bitter about no one noticing that he first suggested the name “Jolly” in chapter 17! It is a travesty! REX DESERVES BETTER!
Anyway, this book is a literary masterpiece. I bought the digital version but now I need the paperback in my bookcase.

Another example of just how good of a friend Ollie is and how brilliant his mind actually is. I genuinely loved the book, I laughed out loud at some parts and shook my head at some, but that's just what one does when Ollie is involved. Happy birthday Josh! This book was a treat not only for him but for us jolly beans as well. Hope you both stay safe and stay happy❤️
To give a quick explanation, for those of you who are wondering what the hell I'm reading: this was written by Ollie Kendal of the YouTube channel KoreanEnglishman/Jolly as a surprise for his partner in crime, Josh Carrott. They're both really funny guys who make great content which really helped me feel a little less isolated during the pandemic, so getting this and reading this was a little way to allow me to give back.
And yes, basically, Ollie wrote Josh's autobiography, which sounds extremely weird but when you know Ollie, it makes perfect sense. Trust me.
Anyway, this was very funny - I chuckled throughout and even laughed a couple of times, and if you appreciate Ollie's sense of humor as much as I do, you will love this.
Allow me to share you an excerpt - nay, piece of wisdom from Josh Carrott, which he definitely came up with all by his own, with absolutely no ghost-writing by Ollie:
"Do bald people get dandruff? How do you know you know, you know? Are we human or are we dancer? What’s love got to do with it? Should I stay or should I go? The clash of options clanged around my head like a massively symbolic cymbal, and my mind was full of questions and copyright issues."
Definitely one of the funniest books I have ever read. If you love Korean Englishman and/or Jolly this is a must read. It is fuuuuuull of references of their videos, Harry Potter, Star Wars and so on, which made my heart melt more than just once. If you like Ollie's humour, especially wordplays or just simply his ability to use words in a very entertaining way, this book will be easily your cup of tea, you know. An unexpected element for me was that they also touched my ARMY heart, which shouldn't have come as a surprise, but still. :) Now my only "problem" is that I want to rewatch soooo many videos that came up in the book... To summarize it, loved it from beginning to end. Not sure tho that this would be the case if I didn't know them this well. PS. Ollie, if you read this. Consider writing more books. I'd definitely buy them.
that was breathtaking. absolutely sublime. superb. spectacular. best autobiography i have ever read about a carrot man. it's the most bromantic present a dude can give to his platonic husband. behind the teasing, exaggerated, jokey prose (which was EXCELLENT) is a whole lot of love and respect for the subject of this book. in purchasing this book, i am also so honoured to have helped fund a new statue in new zealand's ohakune national park, land of carrots, carrotland.
(also can i just say that cover is SO COOL?? the movie poster composition of it is awesome)
All that's left to say is, if you know you know, you know you know, you know? This book would've blown my mind, if I hadn't been wearing my neck brace that is...
I LOVE this so much!!! I finished the book in a day and giggled like a young girl at many points. It felt very much like I was half-asleep, drifting in and out of reality and the dream. What an experience. As a fan slash jollybean, it was a joy to find the easter eggs and catch the inside jokes. (The harry potter and star wars references were the cherries on top.)
Ollie's vocab is extensive and has a knack for describing things vividly with wit. A funny and creative best man who overachieves.
I’d classify this book as a surrealist piece of art, but a masterpiece that is. Crème fraîche, root vegetables, burning swans and digital clocks included. I read this book with so much joy and interest, and obviously admiration for Ollie and his “habit of hugely overdoing things in an entertaining and hilarious way”. 10/10 would recommend!
This book was everything I anticipated and more, and it is truly a ( definitely self-written, ofc ) masterpiece. I loved Muncho and Legumosaurus as well as all the insider jokes ^^ ( and ofc everything else in and surrounding this one of a kind autobiography ;) ) Loved it, and how Ollie said many times in this book: "If you know you know, you know"
I’m on chapter two and I realised that I’m reading in Ollie’s voice in my head lol. So far not bad. With a cup of caffe latte and a few pastries, I’m enjoying this book so far
This book is nonsense. Fortunately I was in the mood for nonsense. Don't read this book unless you are in the mood for nonsense too. (It is quality nonsense.)
I mean... It's a corker! It's the right length for this sort of paro-, ahem, totally factually accurate autobiography by Ol-Josh. There is wit wittingly inserted in appropriate places, there are many vertically elongated tales, there are puns galore and there are even sweet moments thrown in for heartwarming completeness. As a long-time Jollybean it was lovely to do my bit for a good cause in their name (although perhaps quirky cause is the better!). Thanks for a good chuckle!
Josh Carrott is a YouTuber who, with his best friend Ollie, runs the channels KoreanEnglishman (영국남자) and JOLLY. The former is about introducing Korean culture to Brits and celebrities; the latter is more variety content.
Ollie has a reputation for being... silly. Case and point, he ghostwrote this book as Josh's autobiography.
It is ABSURD. The book follows Josh's life in the loosest sense, clearly spiced up with imaginary scenarios and terrible puns along the way.
I did enjoy this. Its obviously not meant to be serious, and Ollie's humour is apparent throughout. It gave me a few good giggles.
Recommended for fans of their YouTube channels, but don't expect a literary masterpiece.
Bumped into their channel on YouTube and got hooked. The book was a nice break from my usual mystery thrillers, it is good to take a break and laugh. The book definitely provided humor and although it was by Josh - spoiler, it was by Ollie. I learned a little more about these guys and their lives by reading the book. Enjoy! And the proceeds benefit a Carrot amusement park!
A fun book for fans of the Korean Englishman/Jolly YouTube channels but lacking in mass appeal (though in fairness how often are people going to pick up an autobiography for a person they don’t know & have never heard of??) There were some good ideas within it though, and I would love to see the trio (Ollie, Jenny & Andy) try their hand at children’s literature - I think their humour would really work for books aimed at 10 year olds. Which is not intended as an insult at all - the humour isn’t immature in this at all, I just think they would do really well as competitors of someone like David Walliams for instance and I’m willing they get the opportunity & a decent editor because I think they could create something really great outside of the more insular, silly YouTube bio bubble.
This book is so stupid you wouldn't expect it to be actually good but it is somehow?? I wasn't expecting a masterpiece but I have to say I was surprised at how much I actually enjoy reading this, the wittiness and also linguistic sense of the jokes in this book are actually good haha. Of course the story in itself is a joke, this entire book is but it's super fun to read and I definitely don't regret buying it. Maybe even worth a reread haha.
