"A Belated Burial" is a short story set between novels 1 and 2 of the San Amaro Investigations-Series. In this short Parker has to find a missing fae corpse and since Nicolas is on holidays from his police department he gets roped into helping Parker.

It's a short story with a light humour and some magic wielding. While it was entertaining and easy to read it was also too short to be fleshed out much, as is often the problem with shorts. If we didn't know Parker and Nick from the stories before they would have been faceless. As it is though this is a cute little amuse-bouche but not very filling.

I love this series and with every new book I fall more in love with it. It does not become repetitive, predictable, or frustrating. There's new revelations some good, some bad, and some completely destroying what the reader thought they knew; taking them on an suspenseful, action packed, and emotional ride. The world building continues to get even better with new intriguing and well developed characters being introduced. The known and loved characters do not become stale but go through tough physical and emotional moments, making them grow and become stronger spiritually and emotionally, becoming even more loveable. The grief that Parker and Shannon are going through is written beautifully and respectfully. The author does a great job of showing that grief is not the same for everyone and everyone deals with it differently.
Love that Parker and Nick's relationship it's not all perfect but still has it's up and downs, showing the vulnerability of each MC, making them even stronger and more united.
This story had me on an emotional rollercoaster. I got mad and screamed at characters, wishing them a lot of suffering. And then I would be crying. Ms. Butler needs to stop being mean to poor Parker. He doesn't need anymore heartbreaks. My heart would just hurt for him. But then my heart would be soothed when his found family would surround him and simply love him, especially Nick. Nick is so great with Parker. And of course in the next moment I would be cracking up cause Parker is a hoot and gets into situations that are uniquely Parkerish (that's what I'm going to call them from now on, lol, cause he's a magnet for trouble and mischief).
Now I'm anxiously waiting for the next book to know what else is in store for Parker and his family. What new secrets are revealed, if Parker is able to keep his secrets hidden, and what new characters I will get to meet and fall in love with (cause the Brownies were hilarious).

FYI: You can get this book for free by signing up for Butler's newsletter or through prolific works here: prolific works.

I am SOOO happy that Butler has given us another free short story that takes place between the first and second book. I just finished rereading the first book and prequel for the second time and was feeling some withdrawal symptoms. (Yes, I literally found out about this series last week.) You'll definitely want to read the first book Wormwood Summer before reading this short story. As expected, Butler gives us another action-packed story with dashes of humor and soft glimpses into Parker and Nick's lives following the events of the first book. Once again, I LOVE Nick's neat, straight-laced personality, especially when mixed with Parker's more laid-back and messy one. The combination just makes me laugh.

I am eagerly awaiting the second book The Oak Wood Throne, which comes out later this month!

A little something taking place between the first and second book while Nick is on a mandated vacation and Parker takes him with him on an investigation so he can stop climbing the walls from boredom. It was a fun read but it won't missed if it's not read.... maybe that lil bit about the kind of glamor Nick prefers in bed.

A Belated Burial is another short story to the San Amaro Investigation series. The series is a paranormal mm romance full of fae, werewolves, vampires, dragons, witches, alchemists, sentient rocks, and plants. The book is fast-paced, exciting, and full of magic. The book is full of snark and mystery and very well written. Overall a really great book and I can't wait to read more of the series.

A BELATED BURIAL is a quick short with Parker and Nick as they attempt to locate a stolen fae artifact. It appears to take place between books 2 and 3 but it doesn't feel very connected to the overall story.

That being said, I liked seeing Parker and Nick working a case together and getting more comfortable with their relationship.

Alas, I kinda lost the plot for awhile even as short as this is, which means a shorter story would've worked better for me. Or, it wasn't complicated enough. Regardless, it's the least favorite. Looking forward to novel #2.

Two Thumbs Up

It’s always great to return to San Amaro with Parker and Nick! I’m not sure how I missed the release of this short story as I follow this author on Amazon and subscribe to her newsletter, but I’m glad that I stumbled upon it in the end. Two thumbs up!

Fun, quick read

This novella gives us a taste of Parker on a job with Nick along to observe which kind of puts a crimp in what Nick can do. It’s a fun little “uh oh, fae crap” kind of thing and demonstrates some of Parker’s abilities.

I'm not going to rate this because I haven't read the other books, and I believe that, although I did enjoy this short, I perhaps would've enjoyed it more if I'd read the previous books. It was enjoyable, though. If/when I get my hands on the previous ones, I'll give them a rating.
