This novella is arranged as a series of seasons with one short story vignette from each of the four main point of views. These stories are set approximately three years before Between Starfalls begins.
Taunos attempts to get into the library of Far Dahutad.
Takiyah balances her love of learning with the judgements of her community.
Kaemada struggles mind to mind.
Ra’ael faces challenges on her path to becoming a priestess.
If you’re looking to dip your toe in the Children of the Nexus universe and get to know the characters briefly, this is the book for you!
Ever since a college professor told S. Kaeth she’d have to eventually focus on just one thing, she’s been dead set on proving him wrong.
From charging through the wilderness, wrangling alligators and snapping turtles, trapping and counting moles, or supervising prairie burns for college credits to doing research and training frogs, lizards, and a lungfish, she treats life as an adventure. She traded hikes, natural history interpretation boating tours, and creature encounters for the slightly-less-exotic-but-no-less-fun mammal training about the same time she began to get serious about her writing craft.

I received this for signing up for the author's newsletter, and I am very glad I did! This prequel consists of four short stories, each relating to a different character from the subsequent novels. I thoroughly enjoyed each of them, as I learned more about the world, cultures, and characters, from telekinesis and fire magic to creatures and folklore. Given that point of this was to pique interest in the novels, it certainly succeeded. I am very intrigued to read them.
Prelude Cycle is a novella in the world of Children of the Nexus. There are four short stories, each following a different person. They are nicely rounded but made me want to know more.
It's set in a fantasy world, with magic, superpower, and interesting structure. My favorite was the first one, where we follow Taunos as he tries to get to the library and the lengths he has to go do so. He is in foreign lands, can only rely on himself and his wits, and has to be very careful not to reveal his powers.
It's like dipping the toes into the unknown lands. :) I'm not sure how this world is set up or how it works, but reading these four short stories made me very curious to find out and I can't wait to read more. :)
I like the writing style of the stories, it's very unique and paints a very vivid picture of the snippets of the worlds described.
A well written story that sets the background for the Rinaryn people. The protagonists for the series to follow is clearly outlined.
Each character has there own vignette which clearly defines who they are and how they will interact with their people. The stories are well told and give the reader insight into the difficulties faced in their life.
Thoroughly enjoyed this novel, read in conjunction with Beneath the Gods Tree by S Kaeth Well written Awesome characters flowed through Look forward to more of S Kaeth
This book was great! I think it was a very well written way to introduce all the characters, see their goals and personalities, I can't wait to start with the series! Between Starfalls and Let Loose the Fallen
