A young adult fantasy set in Colorado, where a society of beings called the Netahs, can turn into animals and then back to humans. Josh is a halfling, who has to learn how to transform. Along the way he develops friendships with Netahs who are a skunk, a bear, a fox, and a raven. Once he figures out transformations, he helps a group of smalls, who have been sickened by a chemical spill.
Cobb paints a vivid story of humans who shift into animals, focusing on Josh, a young shifter coming into his own. Took me a couple of chapters to get into it, but once I connected with Josh I was hooked. Very relatable themes of fitting in/asserting your independence, and wonderful descriptions of the forests of Colorado, where much of the story takes place. Loved the imaginativeness of this!
