A DEAD WIFE, A HUSBAND IN DESPAIR, AND AN EVIL CULT LEADER. THE BODIES ARE PILING UP. When a stranger shows up at Cam Derringer’s boat and asks him to find his missing wife, who is a psychiatrist, he thinks it’s just another case of enough is enough. But when Cam’s friend is arrested for the murder, Cam realizes something just isn’t right. Cam pours through an intense investigation and realizes this case has too many similarities to a string of murders of psychiatrists by ex-boyfriends. After an attempt on his own life, the trail leads him to a compound in Angel Fire, New Mexico, where a few local police and a cult leader, Sly Stickler, rule the roost. Follow Cam through twists and turns, on land and at sea, and threats against his daughter, Diane, as he spirals out of control toward a horrific ending.
Lots of action, a great plot, and wonderful characters, as Cam’s case of a missing wife leads him in a different direction than anyone suspected. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
Eric Stone hires PI Cam Derringer to look for his missing wife Gail, last seen on a shopping trip with a friend. Though there's evidence she hooked up with a former boyfriend John Daniels and that he's married too, the case cools slightly - until two stranded teenagers on a lonely road come across her battered body. Is Daniels a killer, or being framed? What does Cam find out about other kills? What happens when Diane's in danger? Where does the final showdown take place?
Mac Fortner keeps the tension ramped up to breaking point, throughout this tense, character-driven crime-thriller and Cam Derringer is a believable, relatable main character you're sure to love. I loved this story because it was so different including a cult and New Mexico as well as a country singer. It had a chase but this time on horses! I am addicted to this series. It just speaks to me. Keep em comin.
Fast paced mystery. Cam trying to solve it brings in everyone in his group. He starts to get into it and another family on the wrong side goes after them. You won't be able to put it down. Get moving while you got daylight.
No political crap. He is a really good author. I will read more. Good plot, good overall story. Surprising in a few places, but really well written. Rose
