Holiday Brothers #3

A Partridge and a Pregnancy

Rate this book
There are a lot of places I’d rather spend Christmas Eve morning than on a cold, snowy sidewalk outside someone else’s home. I’d kill to be sitting beside a fireplace, drinking cocoa, wearing flannel pajamas and reading a book.

Instead, I’m here, standing in front of my one-night stand’s house, working up the courage to ring the doorbell and tell him I’m pregnant.

I hate that term—one-night stand. It sounds so cheap and sleezy. Tobias Holiday is neither of those things. He’s handsome and caring. Witty and charismatic. And once, a long time ago, he was mine.

Our one-night reunion was only supposed to be a hookup. A fling with an old lover. A parting farewell before I moved to London and put my feelings for him an ocean away. How exactly am I supposed to explain that to Tobias that I’m having a baby? His baby? Maybe I could sing it. He always loved the silly songs I made up in the shower.

Three French hens, two turtle doves.

And a partridge and a pregnancy.

of course she was celibate the whole time they were apart while he was hooking up with random women, including one of her friends :)

i also didn’t like how she had to make all of the sacrifices. everything was always her fault, for some reason?

I was so looking forward to this book after enjoying the first two so much. Honestly, this was my least favorite of the series and it was mainly due to the heroine being insufferable through so much of the book. Sigh. I did love the hero and the ending was nice, but overall this one was just okay for me.

A Partridge and a Pregnancy is book three in the Holiday Brothers series by Willa Nash which is a pen name for Devney Perry. I have enjoyed meeting these three brothers so much. I feel like of the three books, this one might have been the most emotional. This is Tobias’s story who is the twin brother of Heath from the previous book. You can easily read this as a stand alone. This series also come in a handy dandy box set!

Eva and Tobias Holiday met in their freshman year of college. They were inseparable from their first date on, deeply in love. They understood each other in a way that no one else could. Or at least that’s what Tobias thought, until Eva admitted that she took a job right after graduation that would take her far away from Tobias, a job that would constantly be moving from one place to another. When she know all along that Tobias’s place would be to stay and work for his family’s construction company as their architect. It was the future for himself he had dreamed of, always planned for.

Now at age twenty nine, Eva is back home with a short job. She and Tobias ran into each other and that old spark returned. They spent a glorious night together which was the farewell they never really had before. Only six weeks later, Eva finds herself back at Tobias’s front door with something very important to tell him. That there was a surprise gift from their night together.

Both of these two never stopped loving each other. They were that one person that you never got over. But Eva is convinced that her job is her life and Tobias loves his life working for his family, living in the home he designed himself, his dream home. Even if he is lonely. Even if they are both lonely. What will adding a baby into the mix do? Eva doesn’t want to give up her job and Tobias doesn’t either. Eva is scheduled to leave for London on New Year’s Day for her next job. Tobias doesn’t want his child to be raised moving from one place to another with each new job assignment Eva gets.

What I really loved about this story was the way that Tobias was with Eva. He knew what he wanted but he tried so hard not to issue orders or to tell Eva how she needed to change her life. He just kept hoping she would figure things out. It really was such a touching story. I have loved getting to know the entire Holiday family so much.

Omfg this couple is beyond stupid, they seriously deserve each other.

Can you say miscommunication? Or perhaps none whatsoever?!

She wants him to ask her to stay. He doesn’t want to ask because he wants her to want to stay.

Let’s just keep bashing our head against the wall and pray for a HEA instead of idk … discussing it.

I’ll pray for their baby that they pull their heads out. Otherwise it’s totally screwed.

Um…yeah, the more I read the more I did NOT like this one. More specifically I kinda hated the heroine...ya know
description
Not saying the hero was perfect, but imho she was fairly self-centered, lacked responsibility for a variety of reasons when it came to their issues & treated him like a doormat. My issue with him was him letting her. Otherwise, he was okay. He was a little stubborn too, but compared to her, it didn’t bother me.

Before all of that opinion settled in about her, with this being presented as part of a Christmas novella series I was less than enthused by how angsty it was(as far as personal preferences go, I generally don’t care for more than mild angst in Christmas themed books). As it turns out it really wasn’t Christmas-y after all either outside of the cover & how she broke the pregnancy news to him.

After reading all 3 Holiday brothers novellas…
Maddox & Natalie’s/TNTN&TN - totally worth it as a Christmas time read.
Heath & Stella’s/TBTB&OBBF - the secret thing was a bit annoying, but at least the rest was enjoyable.
Tobias & Eva’s/AP&AP - if you feel the same about my second paragraph, I would say no-go or at least lower your expectations if you wanna complete the series.

This is third in a series and all the stories take place more-or-less simultaneously. As such, we already know that Eva is going to drop the surprise pregnancy on Tobias and it's going to throw him for a loop. I highly recommend reading the other two. And then skipping this one in favor of a story that makes you happy.

This sucked sooooo bad. The entire story even exists due to author manipulation. I mean, there is zero in Eva's character that would suggest that she'd keep an unplanned pregnancy. She's not religious. She isn't dying to be a mother. And a child is a serious disruption to everything about her life and career. The author doesn't let the abortion question come up, probably because it'd become immediately obvious that Eva has zero reason to keep the baby.

And then we're told over and over about how both Eva and Tobias are planners, only Tobias is the only one in the story who even contemplates what having a baby is going to mean to Eva's future. Her job would destroy a child. And even a cursory examination of the future would make that blindingly obvious. So the author manipulates things further by preventing the supposed planner, Eva, from recognizing the obvious fact that her plans have to change if she has any intention of keeping this baby. Strike two.

And every detail we learn about their past split indicates that Eva pulled a unilateral decision, without bothering to communicate at all, and that she is clearly the bad guy in this case. And, oh joy, we spend the entire story seeing how she plans on continuing that lack of communication as she waits for Tobias to learn to read her mind. Strike three.

I'll admit that I skimmed the last third of this because I couldn't believe the authors expected us to swallow this refuse pile as a romance. Nothing came in to save this. She's as bad at communicating at the end as she is in the beginning. And she never apologizes for putting Tobias through the wringer, not only in the past, but in the present as well. For some reason, the authors feel like he was the one who needed to apologize. Making this a one-star read and I highly recommend giving this a pass. It's way, way worse that you'd expect even from what we learn about these two in the first two books.

A note about Steamy: There are explicit sex scenes and quite a few. I skimmed every single one because they were, without fail, inserted to prevent communication. In other words, they highlighted the lack of intimacy between these two characters. And that's the opposite of what I expect in explicit scenes in romance unless they're way more well-done than these are.

For someone who isn’t a huge fan of novellas, I’m a total sucker for Christmas short stories. It took only one look at these covers, the author, and a quick glance at the blurbs to know the Holiday brothers were all mine!

Thumb War GIF

Tobias and Eva have a past that left them both with broken hearts. But after years apart, a one night stand is the perfect thing to help them find final closure. Except for one little accident.

Despite this super cute cover and fun blurb, this actually carries a bit of angst and romantic drama to it as well as enough steam to melt the North Pole. Eva’s and Tobias’ struggle with what they want and how to make it happen was heartbreaking. I should have known this author wouldn’t leave me unscathed. Then again, she can give me all the angst when it comes wrapped up with a deliciously sweet epilogue like this!

3.5⭐️ Listen this was cute but oh my gosh the miscommunication was infuriating. If they just talked all of their problems would be resolved instantly. Another novella with no Christmas vibe but I had a blast reading this series.

5 Tobias and Eva Stars

Gorgeous , sexy, Christmas second chance romance with a surprise pregnancy.
Tobias and Eva were College sweethearts...soul mates really , but at the end of College , everything went wrong and they parted. A few years later they reconnect for one night but that one night has a long lasting result when Eva discovers she is pregnant.

I love this series and each of the Holiday Brothers make for gorgeous Heroes. Tobias is the most reserved of the men and he is certainly the most guarded.
I thought the conflict was written (and resolved) really well, but then this is Willa Nash (Devney Perry) so I have no qualms about handing my kindle heart over to her for safe keeping - she hasn't let me down yet.

All three books are short reads and I would have loved for them to be full length, but that is just me being greedy! There is a small dose of OW drama in this one, except it isn't really drama but I would have relished it if it had been. Had the book been full length then I'm sure more would have been made of it.

Re read via audible December 2023. Love , Love, loved the narration by Teddy Hamilton and Emma Wilder - This is definitely my favourite of the three books. At 3hr 33m , it's a quick listen and I enjoyed every minute.

HEA? Yes.
Cheating? No

Seriously have LOVED these three books. Highly recommend them!

Three brothers, each trying to find their way at Christmas time. And while these books are all set during the same Christmas, they can be read as stand alones. You just won’t get the full affect of knowing the brothers from the previous books.

Loved!!!

Eva and Tobias dated for a few years until Eva decided she wanted to leave Bozeman after graduating to chase a career dream. They were both left broken hearted with her decision but there was no way she was staying put when there was a whole world out there to see. She loved Tobias but didn’t want to settle just yet.

A few years later, Eva is back in town to pack up her apartment before she moves to London to take up an incredible job opportunity. Tobias is still single and one night they give into the pull that has always been there, having an indulgent sexy night together. Little did they know they were creating a new life made up of their combined dna.

This is why Eva is now standing on Tobias’ doorstep, warring with her own thoughts and wondering how to tell him she is pregnant. Tobias is initially shocked but truth be told he is happy about his impending fatherhood. Eva has always been the one that got away and he is hoping this means they can make things permanent between them.

‘Why couldn't she see how much sense we made? How good our life could be? How good we were together?”

Eva has it in her head that things can carry on as planned and they can co-parent via London, no worries. Tobias is not on board with this plan at all. What is evident right from the beginning is that these two are so meant to be. The love between them is obvious and Eva’s determination to stick with her plan is just hurting all of them. Tobias has been hurt before and isn’t going to sacrifice his heart again. Tobias needs Eva to come to the same conclusion he has and realise the best place for her is with him. Bozeman or London?

“Fuck, but I wanted her. I wanted her for good. But she wasn’t mine. She was her own woman.”

This is the third story in the Holiday Brothers series but I actually read this one first. There are no spoilers so you can read these in any order. I love a good surprise pregnancy story so I was drawn to this one instantly.

for the christmas spirit I once had and lost. a massive fuck you to you, bitch.

Seriously, didn't even bother to visit me this year when I did everything to make the bitch feel at home. I read Christmas themed insta love books, I baked Christmas cookies, I got my mom to buy me brandy for my eggnog. And the bitch would show for two seconds and bail!

Anyways, this book was fine. Not the best instalove Christmas book ever, and it still ain't close to the worst. Three days later, I already forgot almost half of what this book is about.

Another cute Christmas-adjacent romance novella that follows Holiday brother Tobias and his former girlfriend Eva. As with the previous novellas this one involves two individuals who already have an established backstory before the novella starts, making the relationship already feel more believable. And although this one doesn't really feature the family Christmas party like the previous novellas, we do get glimpses of Tobias and his predicament in those stories before seeing events through his eyes here. It was a clever way to develop the story.

Overall this little trilogy has been lighthearted and fun, and not too Christmassy.

A Partridge and a Pregnancy is a second chance, surprise pregnancy holiday romance part of the Holiday Brothers novella series!

Ava and Tobias Holiday were college sweethearts who ended up splitting when he proposed but she turned him down as she wanted to travel and not settle down in their smalltown. When she finally did come back in town they share a night together that leads to a surprise pregnancy! Now they want to make it work with coparenting, but he wants her to stick around so he can prove they’re meant to be, and she’s ready to pick up and go again.

The audios for these are fun and they’re short holiday novellas. I liked the history between the couple in this one, but book 1 in the series is my fav.

God, do I love me some Willa Nash

Every time I read one of these books, I always leave it wanting to find a Holiday boy... Like seriously... WHERE ARE THEY HIDING?????

I really do love everything this series offers, and I think that my favorite was out of all of the brothers... I do think, at first, it came off a little whiny, but after everything, I really did end up falling for their relationship!

If you like a wholesome plot with a decent amount of drama and spice these Holiday Boys are for you :)

The last book of a series of three Holiday romances...this one was probably my least favorite but I really enjoyed reading them all.
They were neatly connected and also easy, relaxing fun stories.
Highly recommend trying this Willa Nash series especially if you have KU.
