A GREAT TIME TRAVEL SUSPENSE THRILLER FOR ALL AGES
☆☆☆☆☆
Time Visitor: Time Travel Romance by Elyse Douglas is a heart-touching romantic novel that is intriguing and suspenseful with enough action to satisfy any action junky. It's well written and the characters are clearly brought to life in a way that you'll find yourself rooting for Gretchen and Paul as they try to survive in both 1944 and in 2005.
When Paul is on a training mission out of Florida flying to the Bermuda Islands in 1944, during WWII, him and the pilots he's training disappear in the Bermuda Triangle leaving Paul stranded in 2005 in Ohio with no clue what's going on and how to survive in a world full of technology that to a person who is from 1944 is just mind blowing and unfathomable.
After crash landing in Gretchen's field in Ohio, the injured pilot is given medical attention and sanctuary by a grieving and troubled Gretchen who in her determination to help Paul comes to the realization that he is now living sixty years in his future. The two develop feelings for each other and both commit to doing their best to get Paul back to his time.
Well even for a well-educated and resourceful lady from 2005, 1944 brings more than a few challenges and life-threatening problems in a nation deeply involved in World War II, and with the knowledge of what is to come because both the threat to both the U.S. and their allies and the Germans and theirs. With both sides trying to gain any advantage the battle to either take control of Gretchen and the knowledge she holds or outright kill her so the other side doesn't have the advantage, Gretchen and Paul run for their lives.
This being only the second book that I have read of the Elyse and Douglas team, I can honestly say that I will continue to work through their time travel novels. This book has been truly an enjoyable read that I had a hard time putting down the minute I started reading it. I sincerely say that I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is into time travel, action, suspense, romance, and thrillers. With war heroes, Nazis, spies, and hit squads, you just can't go wrong.
Quotes: Eleanor Roosevelt; "If life were predictable, it would cease to be life, and be without flavor."
"Our objective is to deal with life as it is presented to us, here and now, and make choices we believe are the best choices. That's how we learn and grow as human beings, with each new day comes new strength, new thoughts, and new possibilities."
This was one of those books that I looked forward to getting back to each time I had to put it down. Darn life gets in the way of my reading. As much as I loved this story, I have to agree with the review Red Ridinghood wrote on January 23, 2022. There are some things that are not explained -- loose ends.
-- Spoiler -- When Paul and Gretchen go back to 1944, there would be two Pauls between September and December. There was no mention of that to take care of that oddity. When 88-year-old Gretchen goes to 2004, we find out there would have been two Gretchens all her life. A year later, would the original Paul, time-traveling for the first time still land in their field? Everything would have evolved differently.
When you write time travel stories, you need to tie things up better. But as I said, I enjoyed the read and ignored those loose ends. So, if you like time travel, it's a fun story with lots of action. No boring or slow parts.
Elyse Douglas – Time Visitor – Reviewed 11/7/21 – Read 11/5/21
Paul Evans started his day in 1944, off the coast of Florida, but he finished it in 2005 in Ohio!
December 1944: Young and handsome, Twenty-Eight year old, Lt. Paul Evans a decorated war hero was a flight instructor at the naval base located just off the Florida coast. His job was to prepare incoming pilots with how to deal with the war and their new jobs. Today was no different than any other day except that he and his beautiful fiancé had decided to get married sooner rather than after the war ended. He was ready for another training mission, this time with 4 planes and eight men. It was to be a mock bombing run out to the Bahamas and back. Taking off as usual but while they were up there they experienced a weird funnel cloud cover and the instruments were going nuts, they were low on fuel, and no way to tell where they were!
May 2005: Beautiful and grieving young Gretchen Walsh was unable to sleep, earlier she had dinner with her friend Carl Rasner, and he had declared his love for her. But it had left her troubled as it had only been a year since the loss of her husband and daughter in a car accident. It was clear that it was not time to move forward like that, as she felt like she was drowning but didn’t know what to do about it. Later that evening contemplating her problems a few really strange phone calls came in on her cell, finally turning it off to return to her thoughts. Suddenly, she realized the sound of a plane’s engine was right over her house, she went to the window then watches in amazement as a retro military plane lands in her field behind her Ohio home, and the story begins.
Join Gretchen and Paul as they face the problems of the situation, and the pull that they both feel towards each other…
What did I like? This author is one of my favorites and without exception, their books are some of the best in this genre. When I did my interview with them I found out the amount of research that they put into each and every book they write. It is astounding but the results are proof of their efforts. Amazing and so enjoyable. What will you like? Exciting, mysterious, romantic, intense, thrilling, gripping, and certainly fascinating! The characters are so riveting and believable with plenty of faults and each carrying their own baggage. But the storyline, wow! I loved it and it just kept giving up more and more as the pages turned. Just when I thought things would settle down, another problem would explode! I absolutely loved the ending, it was amazing! I can’t wait to read your comments so pick up your copy today and prepare yourself for an incredible read. Elyse Douglas’s new book “Time Visitor” will take you by storm! Available today!!!
I’m an older reader, older than the authors and old enough to remember WWII. So much in the story depended upon the “kindness of strangers”, but I am hard pressed to remember any one who would have gone the extra mile in that time of rationing and deprivation. For a soldier perhaps but not a single woman on the run. The Depression was barely over and money tight. And wearing a veil on a date is laughable. Nice try though.
Too over the top for me and unbelievable. Lots of adjectives. And the epilogue wrapped it up in a way that was.. what the heck. I didn’t highlight a single paragraph on writing merit.
Really enjoyed this story. I could not put this book down. Kept reading to find out what happened next. Nice to know they didn’t take advantage of their knowledge of what was to come down the road
This time travel romance novel had me from the first page! The twist and turns of the plot -- the wonderful characters -- had me reading late into the night. This was truly an "I can't put down novel!" Looking forward to the next book from this author!
I received an advanced copy from the publisher, but the opinions are truly my own.
An immortal love story above and beyond the clouds ♥️❤️
Worth more than five stars, this magical book proves the super talent of the famous authors husband and wife team who alone could ever develop into their sci fi time and travel phenomenon that has garnered hundreds and hundreds of satisfied and happy readers all over the world👍 I’m one of those hundreds who never miss a book by Elyse Douglas ever since I found them👌 Super hero Paul Evans is now my current book boyfriend (forgive me Gretchen, I’m only dreaming its 1944!) That being said, all of a sudden my over active imagination overwhelms me, it’s as if I was actually and personally traveling back in time with Paul and Gretchen ! I’ve always been a fan of Elyse’s incredible books that it could not be avoided re-living every amazing and believable stories she and her husband Douglas weave throughout their books! Their characters are very much alive in every page, so much so that from page one to epilogue, the heartwarming satisfaction envelopes me like I was actually floating in the wondrous clouds with both of them! It’s so real, tangible and within your grasp! I’m so so very happy Paul and Gretchen remained in Understandably I am so thankful and happy that Paul and Gretchen remained in 1944! Why? Because life in 2005 would be chaotic for both of them, dangerous and never safe, no one would leave them alone, especially that traitorous Carl😡 I have full admiration of Marion Stark, so ironic that she got betrayed after the war ended! Well, let’s celebrate the happily ever after of Mr & Mrs Paul Evans, living a full happy successful lives together with their son and daughter… following their footsteps succeeding in their own fields, and beautiful grandchildren to complete the cycle of life, but, I have some misgivings, that Paul should have lived a longer life with Gretchen 🥵😢 Oh yes, I got teary eyed 😥 Anyway, overall The Time Visitor has done a great job by forgetting sometimes that the virus is still running chaos worldwide, let’s pretend that we are back to our normal lives… with our kids romping and happy playing in the park, so be it💟 Thanks for another great job, Elyse Douglas👌
Time travel plot holes galore. If you are okay with ignoring these things, enjoy. If you are a bit of a sci-fi purist and want the time travel to make sense (as much as it can, given we can't actually travel in time) you may not like ths one. Those problems aside, there's one nitpicky thing i do not like to see. Gretchen is asked how she met her doctor friend, an "internist". She says she hurt her leg in a fall, Justin found her on the internet and they went on over to see her. Internists do not treat leg injurjes. They would have been sent elsewnere before ever meeting the doctor. You can't just pop over to see a specialist, you are referred there by familiy medicine or other medical services. Research is important, even for the little things. Editing should pick this up.
I have always been drawn towards books about time travel and this one was exceptionally well written and it was totally believable!! It was a beautiful love story too and I couldn't stop reading until I got to the end. This story was filled with love, danger, and exciting twists to keep a reader turning pages to see what happened, and "when" it ended! I highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in time travel theories.
I couldn't stop reading. Interesting time travel concept. He comes from 1944 in an airplane to 2005. She is widowed and finds this vintage plane and not so vintage man in her field. While trying to help him they find trouble and both find themselves back in 1944. Once discovered, Gretchen and Paul find more trouble than expected. They have a covert friend that tries to help them, but staying one step ahead and safe is more than anyone can do. Some missions are successful and some are failures. Fascinating, complex and page turner.
Time travel books are difficult to write, as the author here did a lot of research which made sense and added exciting elements to the whole story. This book was very difficult to put down and a real page turner. I kept wondering how this was going to end, and without telling anything, the author finished with an unexpected yet excellent way to explain and make it very thoughtful as well as enjoyable. I can highly recommend it to anyone who would like to read a well done time travel book with a different concept from many I have read.
4.75 ⭐️ I was hooked from the very first page. Had no idea how it was going to end. That end was so sad but happy too. I will definitely be reading more books by this author.
Did the time travel make perfect sense? No. But it’s fiction and I enjoyed the story very much lol.
I liked how the story was structured into parts. The characters were interesting and I was rooting for them to solve their time travel dilemma.
Read if you like— - time travel romance - ww2 era - 3rd person POV - adventure -suspense - plot twists - navy pilots
An incredible and enthralling book, with a time traveling romance story. Gretchen was a widow living in 2005. She had lost her husband and daughter in a car crash the previous year. Her life changed when a plane landed on her farm. The characters were very well crafted, so well that they were believable.
Quite an exceptional story. I love time travel stories and WWII stories. This combined both my favorites in one. Kind of mind boggling (as Back to the Future was). Well written with remarkable characters. I definitely would recommend this book. Very believable. I loved it!
I am completely binge reading these time travel novels by Douglas and really enjoying them. In this one, a WWiI pilot, Paul, is flying off the coast of Florida with his squadron when he encounters a strange cloud and ends up in Ohio in 2005. He meets a widow Gretchen and together they time travel back to 1944 where the story really takes off. This series fascinates me!
This was such a lovely story. It was fairly predictable but I loved that the way I love a good Christmas movie. I wish that I could have found out what happened to a couple of minor characters in the end but I will happily fill in the blanks with my own imagination. I will definitely be reading more of Else Douglas!
I didn't know I liked this book so much until I reached part 3. Then it came alive for me. The story built, there was intrigue, danger and suspense and I couldn't have guessed how things turned out in the end. There were also tears. This is my first book by the author, I'm searching now for my next!
What a fun read on a cold miserable day! The depth of detail and it's historical accuracy was especially pleasing as reader of nonfiction WE II books I appreciated this. I also liked the plotting and supporting characters.
More time travel excitement into the future for a Bermuda triangle pilot. Great idea, we all wonder what may have happened to them. The endings are always interesting and satisfying.
In the past week I have read five of rhe Elyse Douglas Time novels. All were wonderful adventures and I hope to continue reading this great authors works. Thank you.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It linked truths of our actual past with a fictional future that I would have loved it had it been true. I loved it anyways😍 What a wonderful thoughtful author! I'm off to find out what else Elyse Douglas has written.
Interesting historically and pretty sure if it were real, Gretchen and Paul would have been sacrificed to bury the truth. Knowing the future would put people in danger.
This is an amusing story, and I think loosely based on a movie with a similar plot (though they definitely diverge from each other). All in all, certainly grab this book and read it; it will keep you interested.
All that being said, though, and even taking into account the insanity that can occur in Time Travel, but …
a). The Author chose to make the 2nd half of the story take place in a few-months-long period where The Pilot AND his airplane clearly had to have duplicates not too far away. But, The Author doesn’t address this scenario at all.
b). The same period mentioned in (a) also preceded the birth of the main woman character. So, I get that she might have had difficulty proving she is who she says, BUT surely she can conclusively point authorities to her previous generations, who should be alive in the given time-frame. Yet, again, The Author completely skips those little details. [As for me, I’d have loved to run into and talked to my previous generations]
c). The Author also never explains HOW the Time Travel component of this book worked, and worked TWICE (which is truly the part of the story that will put doubt into the minds of many of the Readers)
d). There’s also an infinite loop in play here, since The Authorities didn’t quite seem to believe the Time Travel angle, but at the same time The Author never had them stop the Training Flight that initiated the Time Travel, so who knows how many of the same Time Travelers could start populating our world?!?
A very intriguing and interesting time travel novel. However, I was very puzzled by the ending. Shouldn't there have been timeline repercussions, after Gretchen in her older years, went back to save the life of her first husband and their daughter from the car crash that killed them and left her a widow years before? Saving then means that she would not have been a widow when the time travel pilot from 1944 crashed his airplane on her property and they would not have been romantically involved. Saving them should have wiped out the time line of her relationship with the pilot...their time travel to 1944, their marriage and two children. Would be nice to read the opinion of other readers.
This time travel book was a different and fascinating story. Gretchen is taken back to 1944 from 2005 where she falls in love with Paul Evans, an officer in the Navy during WWII. She tries to get back to 2005 without success but somehow, as an old lady is able to prevent her 2005 husband and daughter from being in the fatal car crash. Very interesting and intriguing.
History & Time-slip equals Time fiction. For me, an interesting time fiction book is one that helps bring into focus another time period and highlights information that might otherwise be missed in a straight history reading. This book did that. Like many time fiction books, there were some details that didn’t seem to match up, but overall a good read. The suspense and mystery added to the overall enjoyment.
I really liked the concept of this story but I didn’t like the execution at all. Why is it that authors always have in inject a sinister element into their plots? Would the story really have suffered if our evil government and the German spies had not entered the picture? Oh well, I am still trying to keep to my goal of reading all 30 books by these authors. However, one more book like this one and I will be looking for another author.
Time travel thru Bermuda Triangle from 1944 to 2005 and back again. Pretty predictable but interesting quick read. Marion, the spy lady ,was cartoonish. Didn’t dit with the story well at all. A different character might have fit better. Seems she was thrown in just for the “terrible war” quota She was all based in Germany and his was all pacific. Really had nothing to do with each other. Anyway. Easy, fast read.
