What a ride that was! I loved being able to finally have all the pieces that put the story together. I truly enjoyed this story. I know it says 4 stars and you are probably thinking whhhhyyyy?! And honestly it’s a fantastic question. One I can’t really answer. Did I love it?! Heck yes! The only thing I’m putting it down to, is that I’m in a bit of a book slump and every book I’ve been reading of late isn’t really hitting that 5 star spot. Which is annoying as heck. It’s like I know that I enjoy the story but anything more than that is just not there. I delayed writing this review for this very purpose, simply because I didn’t know what to say or how to explain my feelings. But my star rating is based on feelings alone. So I had to follow that.
I really loved how everything was tied together. I do have to say it did feel personally, a little bit rushed once we got towards the end but I adored how things were left. So sweet and perfect. This is the perfect YA story I’m telling you. The characters are loveable, the response and build of the relationship between Luka and Aspen was something I truly loved to lose my mind in. And the friendships that grew between all the people and reuniting connections will really touch your heart. Seriously it will.
If you’ve loved books 1 & 2 there is zero reason why you won’t want and need this story in your life! It’s too perfect to not read! Not to mention I love the girl power vibe. Those poor guys are gonna have their hands filled with their woman just sayin’ 😂😅 but hey they knew what they were getting into so eh.
This is an epic non stop adventure that you will gobble up. It’s one that will keep you intrigued right until the end. There’s so many aspects that I truly loved about this story. I liked the addition of another mad king 😂…I dunno why but I really did. (I don’t really see that as a spoiler since yelling mad king isn’t cause for my head on a pike, that I’m aware of yet 😂😂).
Follow as Aspen has to learn to adjust to a new life of being a vampire and all the struggles that come with that.
“Talk about my emotion regulation one…more…time…and see what happens.”
That should give you something to work with on how that’s going 😂😂. But on top of that she’s trying to finally tear down Maz and her awful, corrupt business she’s established. So things are about to get rockier. Be sure to buckle in. And enjoy Aspen letting her feisty inner beast out from time to time (on the right people of course). And Luka may just have the hots for it. Just sayin’ lol.
Anyways be sure to read this book you will not regret it. This book will be available on the 19th November so be sure to have this baby preordered so you can read it right away. Be sure to let me know your thoughts in the comments.
Also ps apologies for the lack of gifs but brain functioning skills are low today and even getting these words out were hard lol. But as always don’t judge my lack of them because of the book. Some days it’s hard to find gifs that hit the nail on the head.
It's time for Aspen and Luka to get their HEA! This series feels like it only just began and now it's over. There was a lot left to wrap up after the rest of the books, but I think it all got squeezed in here. Some of this did feel like it was finished too quickly: they didn't really work for it. Everything was very slap-dash immediate action and it worked out for them, so expect some pretty non-stop activity. Loved everything. I especially liked Aspen’s volatile new nature. That was pretty fun in there, and just the right amount of crazy possessive fiancé.
I read this fucking series in a week. This was poor written and not at all well developed. The characters were one dimensional and the books were full of things that were just stupid and didn’t make sense. The thing is… I still read all three.
The best way to describe this is like when you crave fast food. You know it’s bad for you but you can’t stop eating it, although you know you’re going to get hungry sometime later because it doesn’t fully satisfy you.
I found this series a bit cringe. Aspen is far too religious for my liking. I hate the fade to black sex and everyone is having babies 🤢 when their like 19-20 years old. Also I felt like things resolved themselves too quickly and conveniently. Book 1 was great and book 2 was good too but book 3 was a bore.
I received an ARC for this book. What a conclusion! So much action! I loved to see Luka and Aspen work as a team and couple. They show that they have what it takes to make it together for the long haul. I love this world Leia has made up. I really would love to see stories from the other cities. Especially Tink and Milika!
Maz and Morgana were undescribably cruel. Didn't expect the vamp to get fey powers in book 3. Or for Maz to try and jump ship into her best friend's body after being killed.
Favourite quotes: - “Luka?”“Yes, my love?” - “Heard what?” I asked. Luka rubbed the back of his neck. “I didn’t want to bother you with it.”“Speak,” I snapped. Sage and Demi both grinned. - I couldn’t process it all. I’d never eat another bacon cheeseburger. I’d never get sick again. I’d never go poop, for crying out loud! This wasn’t normal. Then it hit me, what was really making me so angry, so heartbroken. I hadn’t fully grieved the fact that I’d never carry my own child. - Leaning down, he kissed my nose. It was something he’d always done; it held such a tenderness that it made my throat constrict. - “You’ll never be queen, but thanks to you, I will be.”
Funny quotes: - “I tore a car in half after Morgana changed me against my will.” - When they were gone, it was just us. Two people with no heartbeats who didn’t poop. - His wife snickered. “You’re stupid rich.” The alpha shrugged. “Well, you’re married to me, so you’re stupid rich too.” She spit her tongue out at him and grinned. “I’m going to get that on a shirt,” she said. - Demi looked at my flip phone in disgust. “Luka, you need to get your woman a better phone.” Luka grinned. “It’s on the to do list.” - ‘Wait, can we drink alcohol?’ Luka followed the king but replied to me. ‘Yep. Can get pretty piss drunk too, but it wears off quickly.’ Interesting. I wasn’t a big fan of drinking, but good to know I could if I wanted to. ‘But why don’t you pee it out?’ I asked. Luka looked back at me, slightly annoyed. ‘I don’t know, ask a scientist. Why are you obsessed with peeing?’ I shrugged. ‘I used to do it like ten times a day. I kinda miss it.’ - ‘He’s acting cagey,’ I observed to Luka. ‘He’s about to fight to the death, Aspen. It makes one cagey.’ Touché. - “Remember, I get an epidural or we never speak again,” Liv warned as she stood. - I held up a hand and declined. “I don’t drink, but thank you.” The king raised an eyebrow, appraising me. “A virtuous woman. I adore that.” Luka growled but turned it into a cough. ‘Okay, now he’s asking to get punched.’ - ‘Tell me when it’s done. Be safe. I want to marry you, not bury you.’‘You will marry me,’ I assured him. ‘And, technically, it would be cremation since we turn to ash.’‘Not funny,’ he growled, and I grinned at my own joke.
The characters lack depth, and and all very one dimentional, so you're able to anticipate their action pretty quickly.
There are also so many aspects of the story that don't make sence. My biggest issue being that the supernatural cities don't know about each other and have completely different political views. I mean, this would have been understandable if we were talking about different countries (even if it would still have been weird for them to not have contact with each other). But cities of the same country that don't know a single thing about each other's political ways? Or even just where it is and how their society works? It sounds seriously impossible. (I mean, even if they are closed off, they could have spies... And they live in a world where modern technology exists, do you really think that would be possible?!)
There's a lot of action, but every disruptive element is quickly resolved. It felt really rushed and sloppy. (seriously, the issues with the breeding farms was resolved in 10 lines! It was the main plot of the book!!!)
Also, the religious aspect as a whole is too much. It's everywhere and it's not subtle AT ALL so it kind of feels like propaganda at times so it really spoiled my reading.
“The Dark Soul” is book three and finale in Leia Stone’s Vampire Hunter Society series. This picks up right where book two “The Dark Bond” ended.
I was very nervous going into this book, with how things ended in TDB and with it being the finale. I was rooting for Luka and Aspen, whilst biting my nails to the bed, whilst rocking back and forth. I continually put the book down to pick it straight back up as I was worried, anxious, happy, optimistic, unsure. But whilst I couldn’t make up my mind on how I felt going into this book, I can say now that I’ve read it that I am both happy and sad. Happy for Luka and Aspen but also sad that it is over. I do feel though there is a lot going on in this book, it felt a little rushed through to get to the end of the conflicts that had arisen. I still found Aspen to be a bit tiresome and irritating, though she does have some growth and character development.
If you loved ready books one and two in this story than all I can say is buckle in cause you are about to take one heck of a ride in this book. Fast paced action, drama, suspense, romance, banter and some bada$$ moments are awaiting you.
Leia Stone is a very talented author with the ability to suck you in to her books with magical worlds filled with wonderful characters, beautiful scenes, addictive drama and action. Even with this being the end of Aspen and Luka’s tale I believe that the talented Ms Stone has left things that we will be visiting this world again to meet new characters or get stories for some already loved ones.
This series was actually kind of nice. It is in the same storyline of the werewolf series. This one is about another member of the “Five Crew” but is FMC based with a strong woman lead. There is hardly any spice, it’s all story. All three books are decent reads. If you like paranormal fantasy, this series is for you.
I read/listen to paranormal, fantasy books to take a break from the real world. I prefer no religious references in those books but can tolerate some if it fits with the paranormal theme. This series had way too many references to current religion in the real world and was why I could only give each of the books in the series a 2 rating.
Luka and Aspen are so devoted to one another. The pact they make to take revenge on each other's foe, such a romantic jester. I'm so happy they were finally able to get rid of Maz and Morgana and save all the women and children "breeders". The end was so bittersweet. I love that Liv decided to carry Aspen and Luka's baby, but I'm so sad that Aspen never got the opportunity herself. Omg and Demi having another baby and Sage now preggo too! Eeeek! Super job on this story line. I loved it.
This book started so many different plot lines that were resolved just a couple chapters or even just a couple pages later. For instance, her becoming a vampire and then never talking about the trauma of it again. Then her getting magic fae powers in the last quarter - that she uses once?! WTF. And let’s not even discuss how easily the big bads of the novel were killed.
Sad it's all finished!!! No matter how many times I re-read these books I still love them as much as the first ♡
They kept me hooked from the first book to the last, I could barely put them down.... I loved that Sawyer and Demi were in these books too as Wolf Girl is also one of my fav series....
So much happened to Aspen in this book and some were really hearbreaking I'm so happy she got her HEA in the end.. Definitely recommend reading this series and every other Leia Stone book she really is an amazing author!!!
Becoming the thing she once hunted was not how Aspen saw her life going but she knew she still had so much to accomplish before it was her time, now she was even harder to kill, which with her recent track record was probably a good thing. But with her emotions at an all time high with her transition into a vampire she'll have a lot to juggle as she and Luca try to balance everything at once. When everything comes to a head as they try free yet another breeder an old enemy pops up and adds a roadblock to their plans whilst another tries to steal Aspen. Will Aspen ever make it down that aisle and to her forever with Luca or were they doomed from the start.
This has the air of someone having an idea that would only last one book and then forcing and stretching it into three, not really feeling it, and allowing the writing to suffer. There came a point in Ch. 2 when the narrator talks about her inability to pee and poop for, like, many many pages and I thought that I should just put it down and DNF right there. I can’t stand when authors try to be “quirky” and “silly” by bringing in poop and pee jokes. It makes whoever talking about it (generally the narrator) feel **really** immature and it just takes me out of the story so quickly. I can just see the author guffawing and rubbing her hands together being like “poop! pee! I’m so fkn hilarious!” (and then the background characters laugh at the jokes just so we know that it *is* funny.) no thanks. DNF @ ch. 4
Oh man! This was sooo boring. 😪 the first book started off soo good and then it just became worse also why the fuck did this read like a ya book? It has no steam whatsoever. 😒

🤔🧐🤯MY THOUGHTS:🤯🧐🤔
Luca and Aspen are so sweet together. He dotes on her and would do everything in his power to give her the moon if she wanted it. Aspen is a little badass that can take care of business. I almost wish there were more to this series or possibly a spinoff series. Regardless, this was my first series by Stone and I will definitely be reading more of her work.
🗯️💬BOOK BLURB:💬🗯️
After coming to grips with what I have become, I now have to step up and be what everyone needs me to be.
A wife.
A savior.
A Queen.
It will take all of my newfound powers in order to take Maz and the dark fey down, but I will stop at nothing to get my revenge.
I’ll risk it all just to watch the entire Society burn...

Everything a YA fantasy romance should be. I was so looking forward to this one, but I made myself read it slowly, because this is the last book for Aspen and Luka. Aspen is now a vampire, thanks to that evil aunt of Luka’s. But all that achieved was making Aspen even tougher and more capable of being a defender for humans and slaves. These two work great together and I really enjoyed how they both fought to do the right thing and protect people. They are considerate and thoughtful, and have a strong sense of justice. The story was fast paced, the bad guys were quickly discovered and the battles were exciting. The takedown of Morgana was fast, and I thought to myself that it should have felt anticlimactic. But it really didn’t. I was still saying, “heck yeah, take that”. It was like the fact that she was taken out so fast was just another insult to her and told her how ready to be done with her crazy we all were. As a young adult book, it does really well at including some really dark issues, without being too confronting for a younger audience. So the overall feeling is one of triumph and this lovely relationship between a sassy girl with strong values and character, and the guy who she thought should be a monster, but kept surprising her with his strength and heart. Loved it. Loved this world. Would totally recommend it to any young adult, or big adult like me who loves a sweet action story that doesn’t feel like a kids book.
Plot Twists Loaded with Plenty of Tension But Wanting More
Naturally, after a cliffhanger like that, I wanted to delve right into this final book in the VHS series, but wasn’t prepared for the plot twists Stone threw at us. The overall picture of what Aspen & Luka must accomplish is pretty clear; yet the journey to get there takes some roundabout turns you might not have been expecting. It’s a gripping story with many beloved characters. So much so that I hate seeing it end.
My one main criticism of the ending to this series is the missed opportunity for a longer series. Moreso than her other books. This book sets up the chance for her to expand explore new cities outside of the inland northwest. She could have introduced more challenges for them to face as they fought the injustice & enslavery they uncovered. I do understand that she has other series’ she wants to write; it’s just that Stone is able to spin new fascinating worlds, and I’m starting to want more than a series that’s wrapped up too quickly in just three books. Even the revenge that Aspen and Luka exact is short-lived because she had the series to wrap up. Not to mention the romance aspect that was thrown in at the end. Overall, there are a few minor distractions from the great stories she’s telling; the ones in this story just stuck out to me more than most since it was starting to be my favorite of hers of all time.
A Wonderful HEA, Thankfully!🙏💞 (Read using Kindle Unlimited) The Dark Soul (Vampire Hunter Society #3)
Waking as a newborn Vampire fills Aspen with a rage like she's never experienced before. Luka convinces her that running will help, after she's fed!😳 There are trips to try & enlighten her old team mates, to rescue Ruby & to a vault Sawyer was left by his Dad, that one is fun.😉 It all feels a bit like filler when you're waiting for Aspen & Luka to fight to the death with Max & Morgana!😒 The trip to LA was ok, I liked the two new characters, a troll & wolf, we're introduced to. That all felt reasonably satisfying.👍
For me this book truly shone when her Mum met with some of her sceptical old team mates. She started telling them about each of their Mums, dead or alive, just from their first names, she even informed some they were siblings & they'd never known!💔💖 You could feel the heart breaking & mending, emotion pulsing off of the pages. It was special.💞 As was the entire wedding.👰 Her sister Maple was too cute by far, Demi was so amazing but Liz's gift? Wow, it made my heart explode.💝🌹 These are what made it so good for me & of course the finale chapter.😍🌟
Finishing this series in less than 2 days was easy, as I couldn’t put it down! I’ll start by saying I love ALL of Stone’s work. I have read most of her books and love them all (so I may be a little fan girly with my review).
That being said, I loved this series she always opens up with such a beautiful world that snags you in. I STRONGLY suggest reading the Wolf Girl series (Since this is a spin off) but it’s not necessary to get this amazing story. However, it is a kick a$$, amazing adventure that anyone would love.
Like most of her books, I loved it from beginning to end. It was fast paced enough to keep my attention and also snagged me in with the rich imaginative story that unfolds. The only gripe I have is with the swoon worthy male leads. They’re HOooott, sweet, and perfect, but almost too perfect. I love a good love story and that’s what this is, but I’d like to see more male growth. Maybe that’s only because she does such a great job with character development in her lead roles that I am left craving even more? I loved watching Aspen grow, learn, and become the person she was meant to.
If you like amazing adventures, wholesome friendships, beautiful worlds, and epic love, this series (no this author) is for you.
This book had so many weird plotlines all interwoven into one, there were so many aspects of it that didn't make sense and really could've been fleshed out more. It felt so incredibly rushed because they were trying to wrap it all up in this final book. Like I said in my previous review, this series would've worked better as a duology with overall longer books. And boy, I thought Aspen gave me whiplash in book one, you know what's worse? Yep, we've fully reverted to a toddler with temper tantrums and mood swings. It gets better as we progress through the book but the start of it? It got exhausting fast and it made her lusting after Luka feel really icky. Especially the reverse of him lusting after her. He's 32 and she got the emotional maturity of a three year old? Yuck. I wish I could say it felt spicy or whatever, but it really didn't, because of how juvenile this entire series feels, it just gave me the ick overall. Also what the fuck is up with the author's obsession with having to pee/poop? It got mentioned like every single chapter. We get it, vampires don't pee, please move on to another topic. Let it go.
The Dark bond is the third and final installment of the Vampire Hunter Series. Stone takes you through the last chapter of Luka and Aspen's story as Aspen struggles with her new change. They face multiple hurdles and barriers to free the slaves and make it alive to their wedding day.
The beginning of this novel killed me. I couldn't stop laughing at the exchanges between Luka and Aspen. That being said I did find the sheer amount of different events going on to be slightly overwhelming. When the characters finally reached the height of one conflict it was resolved rather quickly and without much suspense. I also found the constant foreshadowing Aspen seemed to be obsessed with before the final climax to be slightly irritating and unnecessary. It took some of the build-up away from the climax. Overall it was a great read with excellent detail and characters to really build an enticing world to immerse yourself in.
