AVA ROSS fell for men with unusual features when she first watched Star Wars, where alien creatures have gone mainstream. She lives in New England with her husband (who is sadly not an alien, though he is still cute in his own way), her kids, and assorted pets, including a yorkie pup and three cats.

Under attack in outer space!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💜💚
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 😠☺️😋😍😎
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Lydia - she and her three best friends, Rose, Avery and Sammy, want babies and since a virus swept through Earth, all the men are now sterile. When an alien race contacted Earth, it seemed like the perfect solution. The alien race, Xilan didn’t have enough females and once every three years they go through a period called slaking which is basically when they are in heat and need women. So, there is a program to match each female to a Xilan male and they meet on a space station.

The Hero: Gorok - he is a commander of the Xilan forces and near to going through his slaking. He is not very attracted to human females, but he figures it is better than nothing, so he tries out the program. Though as soon as he sees Lydia, he feels things he is not ready for, like possessiveness and protectiveness.

The Story: The two main characters meet at a space station for the slaking. Gorok decided that if he liked his female, he may just take her home to Xilan to be his companion though he knows forming a true bond is a very rare thing so probably will not happen. He wonders if she sparked his heart fire and wanted to return to Earth, would he willingly leave her behind?

Gorok has trouble finding any female that stirred him until he sees Lydia. He immediately chooses her, and they get busy pretty quickly. Lydia was a bit anxious about Gorok’s ginormous member, but she adapted pretty quickly and was pleased, but right before he was about to finish, the space station is attacked.

From there on, the book was full of action. I love it when there is plenty of action and adventure in an alien romance. I know some people read them for the smut factor, but I like a good story and outer space adventure. I also loved the fact that there was a hilarious droid named T-Rex and a big purple jaguar like creature.

This book is told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Felicity Munroe and Stephen Dexter. These two narrators do quite a few alien romance audiobooks and I like them both quite a lot. Felicity has a pleasant, age-appropriate sounding voice and Stephen has a deep yet soft voice which I really enjoy.

**3/5 stars**

I had certain expectations at the start of this book; the premise wasn't groundbreaking but it had the simplicity I needed and honestly, I had in mind that it would be a... *blushes* copulation fest. Instead, I found myself dragged into a series of adventures I didn't ask for. Like, sure, I was somewhat expecting little action because of the blurb mentioning a war but I wasn't anticipating the war to be at the forefront.

It was neverending action, no respite at all and that, l.i.t.e.r.a.l.l.y until the very last chapter. Something happened, then on the way something else happened, then at the end of the thing that happened, another thing happened and, and... I'm breathless! I would've liked it if it was more paced, but instead, we had the main characters running left and right the whole time and it had nothing to do with the premise. Add to that the introduction of a droid who was snobby, irritating and seriously not needed. A pain in the bottom.

His fingers glided through my hair, and his breath hitched. “It is lovely. So soft and fluffy. You are more appealing than I expected.”

I liked Lydia...at the start. I thought it was refreshing to have a heroine who was very understanding and respectful of Xilan's culture. She was very sweet in that aspect. The problem that I had with her was the inconsistancy of her character. It was the 180 she did, switching from sweet to supposedly strong in the face of danger. My girl could blast the monsters with her laser gun and she (quoting her) ''showed who was the boss''. She literally became OOC in her own story. Other than that, I think I liked the little scenes with Gorok; their first moments together, for the most part.

“You please me very much, kita.”
“What does kita mean?”
“It means you are sweet,” he said. “Fire to my soul.”

I hadn’t told her the truth about what kita meant. True mate.
-Gorok

Gorok had potential to be great but his development was sadly lost during their escape. I liked his first interaction with Lydia where he was protective, determined and slightly bashful at times. It's just unfortunate that he spent more times arguing with that silly useless droid rather than bonding with his mate. You know...getting to know her more than just thinking about putting his rooster in her kitty?

“Some Xilans sing.”
“What kind of songs?”
“Like this.” Tipping his head back, he released a series of high-pitched, unearthly croaks. His head leveled, and he flashed his fangs shyly.
“I have been told I am an amazing singer.”

Listen, I liked the start of the story up until about 30% but the rest was just too much. Certain things annoyed me even in the beginning but I was willing to look past them because I was looking for a simple story, and just wanted to focus on the romance. I was so disappointed when the romance took the backseat...we barely got any development between Gorok and Lydia but somehow they fell in love with each other; the only reason being that they were fated mates. I can accept Fated Mates situations but this story all happened in one single night. Everything about this couple felt too sudden and it was all surface stuff...It's a shame that this story was more focused on the needless action and insubstantial dialogues, which very much felt like fillers, rather than what the blurb promised.

Would I recommend this book? I think it was an okay read.

Overall, the action was too much for me and the story wasn't focused enough on the romance. I don't think I will read the other books from this series.

This is one of those stories that I sit on the fence about. I finished it, but I don’t really know whether I liked it lol. It is a comical version of an alien space romance, but I felt it was trying to hard for my liking. I was amused while reading it, but it is very imaginative. But there is plenty to the story to keep you reading just don’t go in expecting anything serious 😂

This book annoyed me to no end. The repetitive dialog and the unnecessary conversations at the oddest times, made the book fell like the author was trying too hard. The Overall story line from what I read was decent but their was just something about the writing that annoyed me. Got half way through and decided that was as far as I would get. THE END. On to the next one I guess.

Really enjoyed this humorous, steamy read by Ava.

Alien Commander's Mate is a fast paced, action packed Science Fiction Romance novel.

I loved the storyline and the MC's, Lydia and Gorok, both had a quirky sense of humor.

Lydia wants to get pregnant and her only chance is with an alien because the males on Earth are now infertile. Gorok needs to spray his seed around, so he agrees to go with Lydia, but he's not expecting to fall for Lydia.

There are a few other characters who are funny too, especially the robot T-Rex.

Well worth a read!

The whole “male heat” trope was BARELY a thing, and it was DEFINITELY controllable, unlike what the blurb suggested.

Review of Alien Commander’s Mate
By Ava Ross

Non-Stop Action!

This first book in the Fated Mates of the Xilan Warriors series by Ava Ross, tells the story of Lydia, an Earth woman, and Gorok, the commander of the starship Oriesla. The men of Earth have been rendered sterile and unless a woman has a lot of money to afford artificial insemination from previously frozen sperm, there’s no way she can have a child. Then the Xilans contact Earth because they don’t have enough females (you’ll find out why later in the book). The Xilan males fall into an insatiable urge once every three years called Slaking and in exchange for one week with a Xilan male, there’s a good chance the woman will be pregnant, since it turns out that the two races are compatible to have children together. Lydia and her friends, Rose, Sammy and Avery, have signed up for the program and all four were selected for the program and travelled to the space station to meet the aliens.

Gorok’s ship picked up a Yuris ship riding its tail as it was traveling to a leap spot that would take it to the space station near Earth, even though a peace treaty had been signed between the Xilan and the Yuris people. After taking multiple evasive actions, the Oriesla entered the leap spot, thinking it had lost the Yuris ship. Gorok was close to entering his Slaking; as were his second-in command, Krek; the Xilan prince, Vikar; and the fourth member on the bridge of their ship, Brune, a pirate they picked up at the last minute. The Xilans are approximately 7 feet tall with bluish scales, six-inch horns, long thick banks of pale blue hair hanging freely on their backs and shoulders and tails.

Lydia was the first of the four friends to enter the room where the Xilans would choose a woman to Slake with. After viewing a number of scrawny women, Gorok was hoping there was a woman that would spark his inner fire. When he saw Lydia, his tail flashed out and curled around her leg and he chose her, lifting her across his shoulder, belly down. When Lydia called him a caveman, he thought that she wanted to mate in a cave and programmed the holochamber to be just that. He already knew that she was his true mate. However, before they could actually Slake, the space station shuddered and Gorok correctly surmised that they were under attack; shortly thereafter, Krek confirmed that it was the Yuris.

Lydia quickly found out that the Yuris came straight out of a nightmare – eight-foot-tall spiders of a sickly yellow color. Taking Gorok’s laser gun, she shot the first one dead, astounding Gorok. She then raced headlong into the group of Yuris, aiming and shooting as she went. After finding out that her friends were safe, Gorok and Lydia were trapped on the station, with too many Yuris to try to fight their way through.

Okay, I’ve skipped lots and lots of things in this short little narrative, but hopefully it’s enough to get you interested in this wild non-stop action and romance story. I loved this book from start to finish, especially the parts in between! I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. If you want a really good book with plenty of action, scheming and romance, this is the book for you!

A great story, full of heat and adventure! I read this in Kindle Vella and could not stop once I started! I loved everything about this story, from the action-packed plot to the characters that make you love them, it was all so good! I know the trope used is a common one right now, but this all felt fresh to me. I think anytime you want to creep me out with bad guy aliens, you can't go wrong with giant, evil, horny spiders. I may have nightmares about them. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series, whether in Vella or through regular KU, I'd forgotten how much I enjoy this author's work.

I loved this book it was such a quick fun read. There was plenty of action and steamy moments in this book, awesome characters, and great world-building.

No fertile men are left on earth, and Lydia desperately wants a baby.

𝐼 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝒹𝑒𝓉𝑒𝓇𝓂𝒾𝓃𝑒𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝓂𝒶𝓇𝓀 𝒽𝑒𝓇 𝒶𝓈 𝓂𝒾𝓃𝑒 𝒻𝑜𝓇𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇.

She finds out from a website that Xilan warriors need females and are compatible with Earth females, so she and her three best friends sign up online. Now they need to be transported so they can spend a week with their Xilan mate, and hopefully, after a long week of passionate, sexy times, they will leave pregnant.

Lydia is paired with Gorok, her alien baby daddy, and that's when their hot, steamy, wild, crazy adventure begins.

The Alien Commander's Mate was a great start to this series, and I can't wait to read more.

h didn’t act realistic at all, when she sees the other alien guys who want to kill them she immediately gets the gun shoots them and wants to show them who’s the “boss”, further then going at them head first to fight. Excuse me, but every normal human being wouldn’t be doing that, I would run the fuck away screaming when seeing aliens with GUNS coming at me, I don’t know what she was thinking but I like it when the character is relatable and she was such a wannabe Lara Croft that all she succeeded was making me cringe

The book blurb was really misleading.

It sounds like they spend a week having tons of intercourse to have a baby.

That is not what happens.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

Immediately after they meet, the space station is attacked. They spend most of the book running around the space station and trying to defeat the invading aliens. The heroine is almost raped by the evil aliens.

Where was the romance? Barely there. There was also a very annoying droid character she names T-Rex who causes all kinds of problems but also helps them.

Fun and fast introduction to a new series.

Have to say, this is a trope that I quite like... and I do like the way that Ava Ross writes.

Loved all the Star Wars parallels... although, I thought T was way more C-3PO rather than R2-D2. But... hey!

Loved that this was although 'sex' based had way more adventure-y stuff in it. This felt very much like an elongated prologue to the series, so I am holding out high hopes for what follows!

Sexy Space Romp

Non stop fun and sexy action adventure in space. Earth’s men have been stricken with infertility and what’s a girl to do but make arrangements for an alien daddy? Sexy times right off the bat and then a mad dash to save their lives when enemies attack.

This is one of those books that you can see what the author was attempting but didn’t properly execute. You can see where she tried to be funny but unfortunately this book was rushed and no real connection can be made so everything fell flat

Lydia has made the decision to have a baby. Sadly, or then again maybe not, the men on Earth are no long fertile which means that if she wants said baby she is going to have to look abroad for a daddy, far far abroad, like outer galaxy abroad. Enter the Xilan's who are also dying out and have a peculiarity with their ability to make babies. Lydia does everything with three best friends and she would not go ahead if they were not also going to be doing the same. Some wine and an online application later they are all signed up. All they have to do now is get transported to the space station, complete their week with the Xilan who chooses them and it's back home... or is it?
Gorok is not convinced that a human female will do it for him, not at all but if it is only for a week and then he never has to see her again then fair enough. He is not quite prepared for the possessiveness that he feels when he first sees Lydia nor how she seems to be affecting him. He is rather unnerved byt it all which is definitely not situation normal for him. He has no plans to investigate it when it appears that the fates have other plans in store!
I love the idea of the slaking and the new worlds that have been described. I adored T-Rex (you have to read it if you want to know more) and how snitty he can be. Brilliant and cannot find to find out what happens with the other ladies and their Xilan 7 day wonders ;)

A disease broke out on Earth leaving human men sterile. Hope seemed limited for awhile for human survival until they get a message from outer space. There is an alien race of Xilan warriors who are genetically compatible with Earth who are facing a shortage of females on their planet. Their warriors go into a type of heat every three years that needs to be slaked by a female. The Xilan offer a deal. Willing human women can sign up to volunteer to slake a warrior's desire for the week of heat. A week of passionate encounters will mostly leave that woman pregnant.

Lydia and her best friends really want a child of their own but can't afford to pay for frozen human dna. They decide to try the alien slaking program because it seems like their best chance to get pregnant. The program is free and seems to be risk-free. The friends are sent to a space station to be match up with an alien. Lydia is matched up with Gorak. He is a ship's commander who almost waited too long for the slaking. He is not sure is he will like being with a human female but he has no other choice. To his surprise, he is strongly drawn to Lydia. He quickly figures out they are destined mates but before he can tell her the station is invaded by enemy aliens. Lydia and Gorak must work together to survive and be reunited with their friends.

I really loved this story and I can't wait for the next books in the series.

This one did not interest me as much as I thought it would. The writing was a bit childish, the pace was way too fast and there was literally no reprieve except for one sex scene that was very unsatisfying. The only sex scene that was good, rather good actually, was when they first started to get intimate and it was only oral. I couldn’t figure out if the author was trying to be funny by making fun of the tropes in alien romances or if she was serious… and to me that says a lot about the effectiveness of the writing. I don’t think I’ll continue the series, but never say never.

This was a very well-written story by one of my favorite authors, Ava Ross. This book 1 in The Fated Mates of the Xilan Warriors Book Series was entertaining with well-thought out scenes, unique characters and realistic interactions. These characters have strong wills, interesting personalities and engaging histories. This wonderful story has the following: intrigue, twists, turns, adventure, action, danger, love, steam and a HEA. It's a fast-paced and engaging throughout.

I loved this story. It was entertaining and enjoyable with some action, drama, and suspense thrown in as well. The characters were interesting and likable. T-Rex and Spike were wonderful additions to the story. Gorok and Lydia met on the space station. Gorok was there for his slaking and Lydia was there for a baby, neither of them was looking for something long term. Gorok knew that he wanted to keep Lydia right away but wasn’t sure if he could get her to agree to be with him after a week. The space station was attacked and they had to escape but that wasn’t going to be easy. Their relationship grew very quickly especially with the intense situations that they found themselves in. I loved their happy ever after. I do wish that there was another epilogue further out but that’s just because I’m greedy. I recommend reading this book.

I feel like I need to take a few mintues to let my adrenaline level drop after reading this one.
I loved how the book opened by introducing us to the female and male characters who both revolve around Lydia and Gorok, the couple in book 1.
The premise is that getting pregnant is very expensive if an option at all on Earth. Enter the Xilans, they need women to help with their Slaking-a fertile period that happens once every three years that throws the males into a mating frenzy for a week.
Lydia and her friends with Gorok and his crew all end up on the space station at the same time. This is where things stop going to plan.
What follows is a wonderfully orchestrated mix of steam, humor, danger and emotion. The danger is at an adrenaline spiking level that had me clinging to my kindle as I read eagerly to find out what happened next.
I enjoyed the glimpse we get of the other couples before Lydia and Gorok get separated. It made me want to know their stories even more. I will be eagerly waiting for them.

What a great read and I am so looking forward to reading the rest of the Fated Mates of the Xilan Warriors series by Ava Ross. And with th entire series FREE to read on KU, I am planning on a binging weekend of hot aliens. This first book in the eersies is Lydia and Gorok's story. When a disease makes Earth men sterile, the only way to have a baby is with mating with one of the Xilans. A week together with plenty of bedtime and she'll be pregnat and he'll be gone. But Gorok sees Lydia he knows this is alot more than mutial mating. She is his fated mate, forever. But things go crazy immediately. Thw book has a ton of action, humor, steam, and so much more. Well written characters and a fast paced story. I can't wait for more.

"I went looking for an alien baby daddy."

Lydia wanted to have a child... but giving it a human father wasn't in the cards given the shape of the world, so she and her friends looked into a chance to meet up with an alien, give him what he needed... and hopefully come home with the baby she'd always wanted.

Gorok had waited until the last minute to go to the space station and meet a human, perhaps not his best plan if he wanted to court her and impress her first... but he was a Commander who could handle the situations life threw at him.

This done in one Kindle Unlimited quick read is one neck of a ride. The zaniest, most insane first psuedo-blind-date ever, Lydia and Gorok start out complete strangers, and circumstances give them plenty of ways to truly discover and understand what kind of person they've found themselves with.

From the beginning, I wasn't sold on this book. I didn't like how cavalierly the set of friends decided to have kids with aliens; they seemed to put no real thought into it and it was like a group decision, like what restaurant you're going to dinner for the night. As someone who's thinking of having a kid by themselves, I know all the thought that goes into it and the implications and there was no deliberation by these women. It just seemed so unrealistic. And yes, I know, we're talking about aliens, but there can still be realism.

Second, it was like jump into smexy times RIGHT AWAY and I wasn't really prepared for that. It kind of took me off guard. I know they're fated mates ::eye roll:: but I'm kind of over the alien fated mates, because they just jump to love/lust right away and it's like ... based on what?

realized how little I cared

The book could have been fun it could have been an easy soft read for the end of my hard day but it choose not to. I really didn’t care about any of these people and I was almost done with the book. The constant back and forth of side character that gave nothing to the relationship of the main two was so annoying. Pages devoted to the chatter between the main characters and a robot was just useless. Also why was their an endangered, deadly alien creature just hanging out in the rafters? And why would you have sex knowing you’re still in danger and would be locked in an awkward position for 15+ min. I’m sorry sex is good and all but so is living. It wasn’t for me as you can tell.

This was such a fast paced, fun read. Lydia wants a child so bad she (and her friends) all decided to make use of the Xilan warriors coming to slake with human women after a global sickness devastates the different cultures. There is humor, fun side characters and plenty of heat between these two. I'm really looking forward to the other stories in this series as we get to meet Lydia and all her friends. I can't wait to see how each gets their HEA!
