The first book in a breathtaking new fantasy series, A Legacy of Storms and Starlight is a captivating and addictive read, perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Danielle L. Jensen.
Zylah Renfall is certain of two things: she will forever be on the run for the murder of a prince, and she somehow used magic to escape her own hanging.
Aided by a mysterious and infuriating Fae, Zylah dreams of a fresh start and a chance to explore her newly discovered Fae heritage. But her dreams are short-lived as the king’s men still hunt for her head. When she learns of a Fae uprising uniting to overthrow the same king who wants her dead, Zylah seizes her opportunity.
Take down the king, secure her freedom.
With just three months to prepare, Zylah’s future hangs in the balance. Despite the allure of her Fae trainer and the ruthless attempts on their lives, failure is not an option. For as long as the king lives, the Fae remain in the shadows and Zylah will never be free.
Victoria lives on England’s breathtaking south coast. She loves fairy tales, myths and legends, and grew up creating stories both in words and pictures. When she’s not writing, you’ll find her exploring with her husband and their two dogs, swimming in the English Channel and trying her hardest not to unalive her out of control collection of house plants.
"I didn´t realize you were paying attention." "When it comes to you, I´m always paying attention."
This is a one POV book told by the POV of Zylah.
I loved Zylah as a FMC here. She is not the "typical badass" characters, but she knows how to survive and get by in her own ways. She knows her stuff and is smart and learns quickly. I loved her banter with the other characters and the chemistry between all of them. We have all the good tropes here. We have a one bed trope, we have a "Who did this to you" trope. The only thing I slightly dislike is, that we get a love triangle in this book, which normally I am not that big of a fan of. But it was quite well written here, so it didn´t annoy me that much.
I liked the side characters in this one, especially Rose for some reason. I loved how they all have depth to them and their own background story, they don´t feel like they are just there to support Zylahs story. I loved all of them interacting with each other, they felt almost like a family. So you could almost say we have a Found Family trope here as well.
Regarding the plot, I loved the world building. I loved the politic schemes and the history of everything. It feels really thought through, and I liked the mystical creatures that were in this book. I liked the powers the fae have, especially the "evanescing" which kind of works like apparating from Harry Potter. The pacing felt good, it was neither too slow nor too quick. I loved all the twists and turns, especially towards the end. That ending, I still don´t know what to say, I didn´t expect the plot twists at all.
Overall it was an amazing read that I really enjoyed. And with that I need the next book to be released like yesterday!
trigger warnings: attempted rape (not caused by the love interest), murder, loss of loved ones, torture, war
This book has all of my favorite things: fae (are we surprised?), hidden royalty, romance, found family, amazing side characters, and a backstory with a rich history and world building.
Zylah, our fmc, is on the run after being sentenced to death after killing a very important someone. She ends up escaping and on the run where she meets Holt, who saves her and introduces her to a whole new world full of magic, fae, and danger. Zylah was already pretty strong when she escaped, but after training and working hard, she becomes even stronger. I can’t wait to watch her journey in book 2.
The romance in the book is so wholesome (yes, there is a little spice) but the actual romance is so wholesome.
“I can be whatever you need.” “And if I just want to sleep?” “I make an excellent pillow.”
Stop he’s so sweet!!!!
I’m going to keep my feelings vague because, if you saw my update, I spoiled myself and I refuse to do that to any of you. But just know that not only was the book’s plot full of twists and turns.
Not only does this book have my favorite things mentioned above, but the tropes!!! One bed, comfort and healing, tension filled sort of fake dating at a restaurant, and semi-body guard trope.
Definitely read this if you’re in the mood for an entertaining romantic fantasy with a strong female character, found family, plot twists, and romance. There is a cliffhanger but it’s not unbearable.
I received a gifted advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Lovebookstours.
A Legacy of Storms and Starlight is an absolute beauty of a read! As the first book in a new fantasy series, Victoria J Price has stolen my heart within the pages of this book! And I can't wait to read book 2!! We follow Zylah (love the name!), who starts off in the book escaping her own hanging at the hands of the King after murdering his son in self-defense. She then meets the gorgeous Holt and is thrown into a world of magic, fae, uprising, and discovery of herself and her abilities. Although Zylah has to leave her family and friends behind and live in disguise from being recaptured, I love how she made such wonderful fae friends and became a part of something so important to her heritage. Zylah is such a strong female presence in this book, and I feel this is just the build-up to an explosive series to follow. Each of the characters is interesting and well developed, and I enjoyed the budding romance between Zylah and Raif (even if I wished it was with Holt instead). And Kopi is absolutely adorable and such a fun and interesting animal companion to be present within the story. I went through a few different emotions during this book, from joy and laughter to sadness and anger. I can't wait to see how each character progresses in book 2 and after falling in love with each and every one - except Arnir and Marcus, that is, I hope to see them all survive in the next installment. If you love fantasy, you need to get this book!
- Pacing From steamy smut to healing a child's skinned knee in under 150 words. Whole paragraphs about pretty flowers during what should be an action-packed chase and endless wallowing about how she doesn't deserve the people around her, how she HAS to do everything on her own. More often than not I had trouble keeping up with Zylah as she hopped from one thing to another, with seemingly zero connective threads.
- Wild game of survival By all accounts (and I'll die on this hill every time), Zylah should have died from hypothermia before we even make it to page 36. Even if you take Fae healing into account, trudging miles through a snowstorm should and will kill you. Those things make you blind. Everything, everything is white, biting, and ice-cold. People have frozen to death metres away from shelter because they couldn't find their way back. You don't survive a blizzard. But, let's assume that she does because the plot wills it so. Our poor, drenched, next-to frozen Zylah finds a cave with steaming hot geysers at the entrance. This doesn't mean however that she'll get warm and dry, because hot steam is still water, and the moment you turn away from that, the cold will come and get you. So does Zylah stay close to her new heat scource? Naah, come on, you know it. Of course she doesn't, and instead curls up on the floor of the clammy cave. Right where the winter-cold rock would leach all the warmth from her body until her heart stops. But does that happen? You guessed it! Next up in Zylah-the-undead, the following morning she goes swimming in a thermal spring. Dunking her head under water, all the fun. I can't remember if she washes her clothes too, but it doesn't even matter. It's still freezing cold, and the moment she gets out of the water she'll freeze to death even faster since she's now wet. Need I go on? Maybe this sounds like I'm just hammering on this one thing here, but there are so many more instances where the things only happen because the plot wills it so. She finds a job in under a day. In the botanical gardens--no waiting tables for this all-but-princess, she gets her dreamjob. And whaddoyaknow, they're secretly fae, too! And part of the uprising! Shit happens, she gets whipped, and she can walk on for miles after that no problem. Through snow, you ask? THROUGH SNOW, AGAIN!
Gods, I think I went a little insane reading this book. The only reason I actually made it to the end is because I didn't want to let this book get the better of me after I made it through the horror of Six Crimson Cranes, but what a disaster.
- The smut And listen. Smut isn't my thing, I'll be the first to admit that. Which is why I didn't necessarily have a good time with all the smut in the ACOTAR-series. However, I ain't no softy and I made it through. Because of that, I couldn't help but notice the similarities between the two books. I kid you not when I say that every smutty scene read as if it came from SJM--albeit a tad more awkward and just less... I don't want to say "good", but it's the best thing I can think of here. The same sexy dresses and fingering in front of an audience as a diversion are included, though the latter doesn't serve a purpose and the trick-aspect gets upended literally the following scene.
- Names The prince who almost rapes her until she kills him is called Jesper (Six of Crows), the fae that comes to Zylah's rescue in the woods is called Holt (Hunter's apprentice), and one of the guards is called Ambrose (Name of the Wind). And look; I fully understand that you can't put a copyright on "Mike". But all three of the ones I mentioned above come from widely known works of fiction and aren't your everyday John Doe's. You wouldn't unironically name a OC "Gandalf", or "Malfoy" either, right? I ended up crossing out the prince's name because I didn't want to associate his character with the name, which was frustrating to say the least. Also: "Raif" is not the vibe. "Rafe" (Kiss of Deception) might have been, but... Merp.
- The holy Plot In Palia's name, can everyone stop mentioning that damn goddess :'D And please, PLEASE, someone kill that deus ex-machina of an owl, who should be a wild animal instead of an alarm system. The beginning is weak at best, the middle is muddy and riddled with random "assailants" that never get explained, and the ending throws multiple curveballs that are meant to shock and don't really have any real value for the characters themselves. Why does character X kill character X right there, and not, say, months earlier when it made sense for them?
There's nothing remarkably bad about this book but I wasn't really enjoying it. I think the problem is that the inciting incident happened so early in the book that I didn't really care if the main character lived or died. I never connected with her and never felt the 'magic' of the story. It all seemed a little lacklustre to me.
A love triangle blossomed unexpectedly and it really pissed me off. Might restart this one day, because up until then it was good fun and pretty interesting!
ALOSAS throws us right in from the very first sentence: Zylah is about to be hanged for murder. After a daring escape, she is thrown into a secretive world of Faes and assassins as she tries to make a new life, and understand herself a little more along the way.
This is a beautifully written novel, with glorious descriptions of towns, forests, and mountains. I loved the found family dynamic--not just with other Fae but with feathery friends, too. I loved the romance, and there's definitely a slowburn love triangle going on somewhere, even if it was very subtle and overpowered by the steamy romance between Zylah and a witty Fae (that had me swooning). I also really appreciated Zylah's reluctance and anxiety when it came to romance, especially given the reason she was imprisoned.
Plot-wise, it's definitely a character-driven novel. Despite being a slow start, it picks up around halfway through the novel and delivers a set of brutal realisations that I didn't see coming. I'm excited to see what else Zylah's story has in store for us.
Rating: 5✨ Spice: 1.5🌶 (please remember everyone's levels of spice are different!)
Wow, I was emotionally destroyed by that ending. And if you weren't... come here, I just wanna talk. This was my first book by this author & I absolutely loved it. I could NOT put it down. Even at work, I was taking reading breaks because this book had me HOOKED. I also loved that it was fast paced & yet it didn't feel rushed? Also, the characters! I'm a character driven type of reader. So when the characters are written well & their stories are developed incredibly as well, I get all types of happy.
Zylah, I loved her. The way her story began had you hooked from the very start! Also, her growth throughout the book, you can tell she hasn't reached her full potential, but the build up will make it worth the wait. The way the found family trope was built into her story is beautiful. & honestly, although we haven't learned her full story yet, it left me at the edge of my seat wanting to know more of her. She seriously has a heart of gold, but is afraid to care for others because she feels she is a danger to them due to the situation she is in. She deserves all the happiness!
Kopi, I adore him with my whole heart. My favorite little owl.
Holt, he has my heart. You would think he would be grumpy and broody, but he is a sweetheart with a serious and intimidating exterior. He is so caring and fiercely loyal. He can also be flirty, SWOON. He puts other before himself because those he cares for are his priority. My heart hurts when he thinks his wellbeing is not as important as others'.
Rafi. He's such an adorable, insufferable flirt who also has a heart of gold and deserves all the happiness in the world. He is the sweetest ever.
Overall, there were so many characters who will steal your heart. So many small plots that bring the bigger story together and make you feel all types of emotions. I cannot recommend this book enough! 💚
Another wonderfully crafted world from VJP! For lovers of From Blood and Ash and all things Fae, ALOSAS is a character driven tale about a young woman trying to find her place in the world while on the run for murder.
MC Zylah is a forceful and independent character who isnt defined by the other characters around her but instead purposefully tries to carve a name for herself within a community that could either be her greatest enemies or greatest allies.
There are hot Fae men, sassy female companions and a cute animal friend that i really loved. Filled with tons of twists and turns (that at times did confuse a little) ALOSAS is still the start of what seems to be a very rich series of love and loss while holding on to the wonders of life and the freedom the MC strives for.
First, thanks Victoria J. Price for providing this novel as an arc.
Many times I have been tempted to leave the book unfinished, and only my curiosity to know how the story will conclude is what kept me going.
I found the book really slow paced with little character development, and I was following the story as if I was following a recap of daily life events, missing the factor of excitement to know what will happen next.
I felt that the book relied on the relationship between the Zylah and Raif and the hot scenes between them to keep the story going. Maybe that is something some readers may enjoy, but not me. I missed a depth to the story, an evolution of the plot that would keep me hanging for what will happen next, and any development regarding the characters.
Plus, sometimes the description of a scene wasn't really logical, realistic or tightly woven, if you know what I mean.
And finally, I didn't really get what the title of the novel really indicates to?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I tried - and honestly I’m a little upset I couldn’t finish because it’s both too early to sleep and too late to look for a new book.
This story seemed to be going nowhere fast. The characters are all bland and not much of anything is happening. The little that does happen is never explained. The main character is randomly attacked multiple times and it’s always just brushed off and makes no sense. She’s supposed to be far away from home and in hiding so how is she constantly found and then left alone and then found? Is no one going to discuss the trail of dead bodies either? Her skill development is instantaneous, as per usual. She literally teleports on accident and then immediately does it again like 8 more times, all completely on her own. She easily kills trained guards although she’s never picked up a sword. She heals wounds on her first try. All this amazing-ness and she’s only supposed to be ‘half-fae’. The romance is so cringey and honestly stupid. I don’t understand what the author is doing. Hard pass.
A Legacy of Storms and Starlight (ALOSAS) opens with “I didn’t mean for him to die” and immediately leads into a dark, magical tale of faeries and mercenaries. MC, Zylah, is on the run and navigating a world amidst rebellion. Throughout her story, fascinating allies—and a few enemies—contribute to various twists and turns.
There is found family and slow burn romance, for fans of those tropes. Add in some brooding, beautiful fae males and bold female characters and it’s a standout read.
Not 5 🌟 simply due to some pacing issues and an often simple plot. The redeeming factor is that this could have been a carbon copy of many other faerie-centric romantasies in the ether. But Price made sure to flip the script on several issues and completely captivate me in a few chapters.
Ah. I don't really know what to say about this book. It was pretty good, but it just failed to really pull me in, but maybe that's more of a me problem and not necessarily the book's. I just missed a bit of chemistry between, well, pretty much all of the characters. The storyline was otherwise good, I quite liked the magical world, but there was just some type of cohesiveness missing... I can't quite put my finger on it. I didn't dislike this book by any means, and I'll try to get my hands on the next book in the series, but Iwas just missing a little something to rate this book higher than the 3 stars I've given it.
I literally could not put this book down, I read it in one day. It is so fast paced with interesting characters & a unique world. This is very much a character driven book which I really enjoyed!
I loved the main character Zylah and the fact that we learn about the world with her. She meets hot mysterious fae men and creates a found family for herself while on the run for murder. She also has an absolutely adorable owl companion and I cannot get enough of him!
When I say this book made me feel so many things I mean it. This book made me laugh, cry, happy and so many other emotions. It had so many plot twists that I didn’t predict. This book has definitely left me with unanswered questions and desperate for the second book.
You would enjoy this book if you like: ✨Anything with fae ✨Political unrest & uprisings ✨Found family ✨Hidden identities ✨Adorable animal companions ✨Fast paced books
I would definitely classify this as new adult as there are some spicy scenes in it. I am still not over the ending and I literally cannot wait for book 2! I’d definitely add this book to your tbr’s!
How's this for an opening sentence in this book??? "I didn't mean for him to die" I've read lots of wonderful, captivating books but I don't think I've ever read a more compelling first few chapters, EVER! All I know is that the more I was reading, the more I needed to, going as far as waving my husband away impatiently each time he came near me! The plot is beyond wonderful, the pace superb, as Victoria takes us on a trip through her incredible world. And what a world! From dungeons, where we are introduced to Zylah, a young palace servant girl, being sent to the gallows for killing the lecherous Prince. This is just the tip of the iceberg for what follows! Victoria tantalises one with hints and innuendos, yet subtly keeping it just out of reach, the twists had me sitting up in my chair and my mouth gaping! I don't want to give anything away, but if you enjoy strong characters, superb world building, Fae, magical beings, a book to utterly and totally grasp you in it's talons and not let go, this is the book for you! A recommendation seems banal, READ IT!!!
ALOSAS starts out so strong. The story draws you in and lots happens in the opening chapters. However, the thing that seemed to cause me to stumble is that we start the story not knowing much about Zylah, and we end the book, still not knowing an awful lot. For this reason I struggled to connect with her as a main character. It felt like I’d missed a chapter at the start and there was always a wee puzzle piece missing.
Her story unfolds but there’s not enough backstory for me to feel like I knew her so I didn’t really find myself rooting for her. It’s not a bad book by any means but it wasn’t a blow you away book either.
ALOSAS has steam, a sort of love triangle, battles, magic, tense scenes, loyalty and a sense of foreboding for large parts which kept my interest throughout.
For anyone who has read this one too, do you know where the book title comes from? I didn’t pick that up while reading.
Read this mostly because the ratings were high even though the summary to me didn’t entirely peak my interest. It was meh. The FMC was way too innocent and naive and the love interest (interests?) made no sense..
When we meet Zylah she is imprisoned awaiting execution. Prior to this she was working for the Royal Family and was due to leave to work with her father as an apothecary. However, her path changed when she was approached by Prince Jesper whose intentions towards Zylah were less that honourable and whilst defending herself she inadvertently causes the Prince’s death leading to King Arnir ordering her execution. On the day of her execution as the trap door opens Zylah starts to fall and finds herself in a forest. There she meets Holt, a fae who quickly recognises that Zylah is half fae and didn’t know. Holt becomes Zylah’s protector and takes her under his wing whilst she is on the run. Holt then introduces Zylah to the fae community who are trying to other throw King Arnir and joins the fight. Will Zylah and the fae defeat King Arnir?
This is the first book that I’ve read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The storyline and character development was brilliant. My intention was to read a few chapters on a Friday evening which quickly turned into one chapter after another and the book was read within 24 hours because I was invested in the story and the characters. The first meeting between Zylah and Holt was just perfect and from the outset it was clear that their bond was going to be strong. Their banter is so funny and their rules and conversations were so sweet. However, it becomes obvious that Zylah is suffering from PTSD and having flashbacks after what happened with Prince Jesper. Although Zylah doesn’t tell Holt what happened at the outset, Holt doesn’t push her for information. Rather there is an unsaid understanding between them that Zylah’s been through something horrific and will tell him when she’s ready. When Zylah meets Raif there is an instant attraction which then starts a love triangle between Zylah, Holt and Raif. When Zylah is introduced to the fae community she starts to learn more about herself and who she is. At the same time we learn more about the history between humans and the fae. After finishing the book I really wanted to try canna cake.
The twist at the end I wasn’t expecting but I can already tell the next book is going to be epic.
This is the first book in a new series and I am eager to read the next.
A Legacy of Storms and Starlight follows Zylah as she joins forces with a group of Fae and a rebellion on a mission to kill the king.
This is a hard book for me to review because I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. The story is well-written, make no mistake about that. The steamy scenes are the best parts of the book, but this is a SLOW burn which grated on me more than once. I also had a really hard time connecting with Zylah, and I think it's because for most of the story we know so little about her. I think we could have benefited from knowing the stuff about her dad and brother earlier on. The other characters were all right. I appreciated broody Holt and flirtatious Raif. Far and away my favorite character was Kopi, the adorable owl.
This book was SO good! I was looking for something to fill the fae-shaped hole in my heart after finishing ACOTAR, and this was exactly what I needed. Zylah is a brave, intelligent main character who you can't help but root for, protected by her adorable owl companion, Kopi. But most importantly, this book has got sexy fae males (one that is especially brooding), and some perfectly written 🌶 scenes. But my favourite part of this book had to be the ending! It was so perfectly written, I was absolutely shooketh when it was all over. Book two can't come out soon enough.
What a thrill ride. I’m mad at myself for waiting so long to read this book.
Price knows how to write a strong FMC. Zylah is a badass who takes the circumstances of her changing world with resilience and hope. It was refreshing to witness such a strong FMC. I loved that. I also found myself entranced by the cinnamon roll men in this book.
The plot was strong. The world building on point. I wanted to know more about what happened between the Fae and humans in the past and what it means for the future.
I have so many freaking questions as to who Zylah is, who her family was, and why she’s been hidden for her childhood. The mystery surrounding her draw you in.
I will also say. I detest the love triangle trope. I hate everything about it BUT I love how Price set this up. She handled it so well. Usually, I am annoyed by how the LT trope turns a character into an indecisive person, but not with this. I think there is a difference between what you need now and what could be in the future. That comes through very much in how Price chooses to handle the trope.
Thank you to the author for the early review copy!
After some thought I'm going with 3.5/5 stars.
This book was a pretty good start to a new series, the main character, Zylah, has a lot of growth to do and a lot to learn as she sets out on her journey. This first book definitely gave her a good start, but I wish there was a bit more about magic in this book. One character touches people and turns to ash, a few others can evanesce or travel from one place to another with a thought, and there is some healing. However, that's the majority of what I got on magic.
The worldbuilding is pretty good and I'm hoping it will improve and expand as Zylah continues her journey. We really only learned about a very small amount of the world. Does the king rule over all the land, or just a small portion? I'm not really sure to be honest.
I think the main annoyance for me was the romance. It starts out as what just kind of seems like a fling and like Zylah isn't really interested in him. Then another character mentions that it's not fair to him if she's interested in another. And then they're sleeping together all the time? There wasn't much chemistry in the relationship to me and it fell flat.
I will say I flew through this book and it was a fun read and I'll likely continue the series. I really did like the characters and the idea and plot to the story and I'm really curious to see where it goes.
A Legacy of Storms and Starlight takes you on a FAEtastical (I'm not even sorry lol) adventure full of magic and politics with found family and romance.
This one hooked me with the first sentence: "I didn't mean for him to die."
I found the plot to be quite good. Interesting and political intrigue (scheming, rather). It had twists and turns that were fun and kept things exciting.
World building is really good. Being that it's the first book in a fantasy romance series, it is a bit heavy in this area, but that's necessary to set up a good backdrop.
Pacing was overall good, bit I did get a bit lost in the middle where the pace seems to slow some for me. Fortunately, it picks right back up shortly, and finishes with a bang. It does end on a mild cliffhanger, but the 2nd book is out and the 3rd will be out August 17, 2024.
Prose is really good. It's descriptive and flows well.
The characters are great, full of nuance and depth. Loveable and relatable. I love that Price gives us a FMC who is strong and smart(vs weak and tiny). I love all the characters, except 2 that I love to hate.
I really enjoyed this read and look forward to starting book 2, A Legacy of Poison and Lies. I have a feeling I'm going to love it.
Thank you to @victoriajprice and @thenerdfam for the gifted eARC. This is my unbiased review.
When I tell you, this book kept me on my feet- Oooh boy it sure did.
The book starts up already in the midst of a climatic scene: the MC ‘accidentally’ killing the young prince of the kingdom (now if that doesn’t suck you in from the get-go I don’t know what will). It then follows her trying to survive through uncharted territories with this new price on her head.
Anddddd it wouldn’t be my chosen book without a little fae and fantasy elements sprinkled in between.
What I loved about it: -age appropriate characters (a YA fantasy that DOESN’T have 16yo’s whisked off to marriage? Honestly revolutionary and a much needed breath of fresh air). -loveable characters. I’m talking about actually not finding the MC or other side characters insanely annoying!! -the ROMANCEEE. I most literally have gained two new book boyfriends after reading this. -the plot twists. Now talking about this, I normally have a knack at calling things out 50pages prior (AT LEAST). So when I tell you, I didn’t call at least ONE thing out. Believe me. Because it honestly hurts more of my reputation to admit this ;-;
PLUS THE ENDING?!?!? Literally insufferable… ;)
Also an FYI, although it seems like it, IT IS NOT A STANDALONE. I learnt the hard way haha
This is a fantastic read! If you enjoy fae-fantasy, please give this series a try. The characters and world-building are both excellent and it delivers on all our favourite romantasy tropes … you’ll fall in love with Zylah and both male leads. Normally, I easily pick a side in books that dabble with a potential love-triangles, but I couldn’t pick between Holt & Raif. I loved both characters. Two new #faebaes to add to my collection :) What really made this book stand out & shine were the subtle ways it diverged from the fae-fantasy canon. For example, I loved the emphasis Zylah places on seeking financial freedom for herself, the sex-positivity and lack of any toxic masculinity. Can’t wait to read the next in the series.
Thank you to @victoriaiprice for the ARC of this book as I prepare for her ARC of her newest book in the series A Legacy of Wrath and Reckoning that Victoria & @thenerdfam has so graciously gave me a chance to read. This book was amazing! The detail, the plot, the characters, just everything. I felt all the feels! Zylah is a character that you can just connect to and I loved that. You can tell there is more to discover with her and I can’t wait to figure it out! Holt and Raif, ugh why can’t they be reaaallll?! The ending had my jaw on the grounddddd and I am IMMEDIATELY starting the second book, A Legacy of Poison and Lies!
This was surprisingly enjoyable! But it was a bit drawn out. I did like the characters, especially Kopi, of course😊 My only critique was it felt a bit simple at times, and (spoiler alert) I never really committed to the romance. I knew from the start that these two were not endgame so the depth of their feeling for each other just felt off. But this could be my own fault going into this with these preconceptions.
