The dark, scandalous, and completely twisted sequel to Kiersten Modglin’s #1 bestselling domestic thriller, THE ARRANGEMENT…
First, there was the arrangement. A simple, yet salacious fix to the problems looming in their marriage. But when things took a tragic turn, Peter’s and Ainsley’s lives quickly fell into disarray.
Now, their secrets have been exposed. They know the truth—about each other and their marriage. As they struggle to move on from their past and the damage they’ve caused, new problems begin to surface.
Someone they love is hiding a catastrophic secret. The fragile ground they stand on is starting to crumble. Their family is being torn apart at the seams. And, maybe worst of all, a threat from the past is lurking, ready to unveil the things they’d kill to keep hidden.
They thought the nightmare they’d made it through was over, but the worst is just beginning…
Once, they vowed to do anything to make their marriage work. Now, that vow will push every boundary they have left.
In order to survive, they’ll need to completely trust each other. But can they? Last time they did, things went terribly wrong… This time, it might be worse. If there’s one thing that’s certain, their secrets are too big to let anyone walk away alive.

3.5⭐ What did I just read? Are they the craziest couple?😱
You'll have to read The Arrangement before this book as this begins where the previous one left off. I thought it was a bit slow to get going which is unusual for Kiersten Modglin. There's more going on in the second half and I couldn't predict the direction of the story. Ainsley and Peter attend couples counseling... like that's going to help? Read to find out!
You can never go into a Kiersten Modglin book expecting it to be anything less than a wild ride, that's for sure!
This book is a sequel to The Arrangement and you should definitely read that one first because otherwise you'll be lost and the surprises in that one will be spoiled. As with The Arrangement, The Amendment alternates between Ainsley's and Peter's points of view.
Don't read any further if you haven't read The Arrangement, I'll try to avoid too many spoilers for that one, but it's unavoidable.
After Ainsley finds out Peter's secret, she insists that there can be nothing but truth between the two of them if they are going to salvage their marriage. But Peter isn't so good at telling the truth, and secrets continue to pile on top of secrets...until they aren't.
I really can't say more without giving things away, but suffice it to say that I didn't see much of any of this book coming. The first 40% is kind of a slow build up, but after that the twists keep occurring right and left and this reader was left in quite a daze. And just when you think it's all wrapped up...think again.
I'm always up for a KMod book because they are entertaining thrillers. I listened to this one as an audiobook and the dual narrators do an excellent job at voicing their characters. I'm happy to say that in this one the narrators don't overtly lie to the reader, which was one of my problems with the previous installment. There are some shortcomings though--some sections feel unfinished and we don't see the drama until we hear about it afterward. (Although seeing it might be way too OTT for this book)
If you're looking for a surprisingly twisty thriller then look no further.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, all opinions are my own.
Kiersten Modglin has done it again with an equally shocking, devious and delicious sequel to The Arrangement! I am so impressed with this sequel which more than lives up to the hype and twisty drama of its predecessor — in fact, if you ask me, this installment is even better and MORE shocking!
First of all, if you haven’t read the Arrangement, don’t read this one first because it will spoil the most evil and fun twist at the end of first book. And BTW if you haven’t read The Arrangement, and you’re a thriller fan, you’re missing out in an extremely well-executed, twisty, twisted thrill ride — so go get it ASAP.
How can I discuss this book without giving away the shocking ending of the first one. Hmmm. Well, Ainsley and Peter are a married couple who have the usual married couple problems. In the last book, they tried to return some passion and excitement to their marriage by agreeing to see other people. This “Arrangement” restored their fire, but also came with complications, including but not limited to murder.
In this book, Ainsley and Peter attempt to address their continuing marital problems with the help of a couple’s therapist. Ainsley is still worried about Peter’s lies and the residual trust issues. Peter seems to be developing some extramarital issues again. And as all this is going on, a brand new plot reveals itself, with a twist just as shocking as the first book.
Sorry I can’t say more… you will have to read for yourself, but the twists and the ending are fantastic and totally in line with, and true to, the first book. It’s rare that an author with a book this hyped and twisty is able to follow up with a second success that is just as fun and shocking and true to the first, but Modglin has done it. In fact, I like this second book and its twist better than the first. This is a testament to the fun, likable and unlikeable characters Modglin has created as well as her well-executed plotting and hairpin twists.
The same narrators return for the second audiobook and both do a great interpretation of Peter and Ainsley. I truly enjoyed this book and would absolutely love to hear a third installment.
The Arrangement got a solid four-plus star rating from me, primarily because there was an extra twist I didn’t like as well, but this one gets five! Perfect amount of twists and devious fun. Can’t wait for the next book in what I truly hope is a series!
Many thanks to Dreamscape Media, NetGalley, and the author for the great advance listen.
Wowsa! I decided to listen to the second part of this trilogy and the narrators were fabulous. Really an outstanding production. Peter and Ainsley decide to go get counseling. If anyone needs it, they do. Am I right? Leave it to them to make even that decision a dark and dangerous one. And the cliffhanger of an ending has me hoping that my NetGalley request for The Atonement comes through ASAP. The books in this series may seem like bottle rockets, but they are really M-80s. Boom!
Now that I have finished the trilogy, I do think this was my favorite chapter.
The Arrangement was probably my favorite book of 2021 and the sequel did not disappoint! The audiobook was short and sweet. The narrators totally nailed it again. The plot twists at the end get me every time! I hope theres a third book in the future!
The book picks up pretty much where the first book ended. Their secrets now exposed, Peter and Ainsley attempt to move on from what transpired and repair the damage.
However, it isn’t long before new problems arise. The past comes back to haunt them threatening to crumble their already rocky relationship. Peter and Ainsley’s marriage is put to the test again and they will do anything to keep their secrets from being revealed.
Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Very entertaining but not as good as book 1. I think it could have been had it been longer. Somewhere in the story the relationship between the H and h shifted without warning. It made zero sense to me.
I'm assuming there will be a book 3, because that ending was just ...ugh!!!
They’re back! Peter and Ainsley have returned to continue working on their “troubled” marriage. This time they opt for marriage counseling and their therapist is in for a crazy and wild ride!
The Arrangement was my first book by #kmod and I was an instant fan! When I saw the sequel, I’ll admit I had my doubts. The Arrangement was soooooo good! But this author has an incredible and twisted imagination. The sequel was amazing and I’m reading for more.
Peter’s secrets are as dark as they come. He could give Dexter a run for his money. Let this be a lesson. Make sure you know the deep, dark secrets of the person you want to spend the rest of your life with!
Thank you to Dreamscape Media for providing this audiobook through NetGalley. This review is my honest opinion.
This sequel to the equally demented The Arrangement, is another dose of crazy from Kiersten Modglin. Peter and Ainsley’s disturbing relationship becomes even more psychotic as their lives slowly begin to unravel. This fast paced thriller is twisted, over the top and utterly entertaining. The narration adds an element of dread and suspense. The final twist was startling and unforeseen. I am anxiously anticipating the next installment of this shocking thrill ride. Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my audiobook.
The writing, the storyline, everything about this book is cringy and absolutely unnecessary. I loved the first book, but this one was such a disappointment.
Told in dual POV, 1st person, it’s the second installment in "The Arrangement" series and should be read in order. It wasn’t as good as book one, maybe because it was a bit similar to book one and it didn't have something new to add (the whole story and the way it ended). But still, I enjoyed it. I hope in the end these two don’t make me disappointed. They deserve each other in every way. Wondering which one will be the winner at the end… All in all, I had a good time reading it and hope you enjoy it as well!
Ps. Special thanks to my dear friend, Lyn, for this recommendation. Appreciate it!
If you don’t mind that this story never would happen in real life, it was quite an enjoyable ride. As always, Modglin’s books are fast-paced. The characters are a bit shallow, and not complex enough, but the entertainment value compensates for it. The audiobook was only five hours, so for such a short book I enjoyed myself. And the ending; Delicious!
omgggg these two are just two insane peas in an insane pod of insanity🤣🤣 This is so wildly toxic and entertaining has hell! It is just so ridiculous but so ADDICTING! They are also short and quick and GREAT for a slump (and possibly reaching a reading goal?) --------------------------------- back again with these two psychos 😅
book 2 in the series fell real flat for me. I ate it up regardless. I love it and have started book 3 immediately. if you get it you get it and if you don’t you don’t.
similar to book one, the first half barely anything happens, then it all kicks off. no where near as many plot twists or gags as the first book and I miss half the characters we met in book one!! but regardless it’s so stupid that it’s great, ya know? just lean into it babes.
Kiersten Modglin has a great talent with writing twisty, fast moving, thrillers and this one did not disappoint. This is a sequel to my previous favorite of hers, The Arrangement, and absolutely they need to be read in order. I break the order of book series all the time but I urge you, not with this one. I was excited to dive back into the heads of Peter and Ainsley and see how life went on after the craziness in the first book. I liked the mix of continuing story line and new problem for them to unconventionally overcome. I have to say Peter annoyed me more in this one because can he just not be honest? Everything was already out, is a new incident really that big of a deal? I like Ainsley’s solution to the problem a lot and the last twist in the book had me groaning a bit. This is a hard one to talk about since so much would be spoiler, but I promise neither this book or the first in this series will disappoint you!
Yeah. I didn’t like the first one so I don’t know how I got convinced to try the second one but I’m definitely finding someone to blame.
I’ve read too many great thrillers to be okay with reading this. The writing isn’t great, the characters are completely inconsistent (how do you go from being completely in love with someone to being obsessed with someone else in the course of 5 pages?) and the twists are tired.
Buzz about Kiersten Modglin continues to dominate many online psychological thriller communities and it seems that the hype is will continue. In fact, my review of The Arrangement from August of 2021 continues to be one of my most popular posts nearly a year after posting it. When I saw that a sequel had been released called The Amendment I dove back into the twisted world of Ainsley and Peter Greenburg and what a pair these two are! If you haven’t read the first book, start there and catch up for the second installment of this twisted trilogy.
This is going to be hard to review without giving away some spoilers from the first installment, so stop here if you haven’t caught up yet! If you remember where we left off, Ainsley and Peter had ended their arrangement from the prior book in a shocking cadence of twists that revealed that they were both hiding dark secrets, and a stunner move by Ainsley to ensure the two of them are truly bound together in their marriage. I guess that arrangement did help their marriage after all!
The Amendment starts with Ainsley and Peter in couple’s counseling to work through their issues following the events of the last book. If you are finding yourself wondering how a couple’s therapist could possibly begin to help a couple as twisted as Ainsley and Peter, you’d be thinking what I was! I often found myself wondering if I was more in awe of what they were doing or more in awe that two people who are so equally matched managed to find one another and form a relationship.
When I read The Arrangement, I noted that the book was a wild ride but at times I felt the twists came a bit out of left field. This made the twists feel larger than life and so much fun, but also had that small twinge of feeling like the characters lied to you for some of the book. The Amendment was almost the opposite. If you followed the first book, you’ll go into the second one with a good lay of the land and know where these characters might head. While this detracts a small amount from the sheer outrageous jaw-dropping fun of the first book, I also felt it allowed Modglin to get more nuanced with Ainsley and Peter as characters—they felt more developed and rounded out.
And I think I can safely say that while you’ll go through this book thinking you know where it is headed, Modglin still has some twists up her sleeve. I can say that immediately after finishing this I made a note to grab the third book as soon as it comes out because I have question for Ms. Modglin after reading this book!
A fun read that probably could be read as a standalone but is best enjoyed as a follow-up to The Arrangement. I am already looking forward to wherever this story ends!
The Amendment will pick up right where the first book The Arrangement left off and I have to say, it was good ! Not fall of your chair good but definitely worth the time.
Peter and Ainsley will try couple counselling this time around. Take a wild guess on how that goes..
The story could go in any direction at this point. It keeps you guessing, didnt know what to expect. It was well written and I would absolutely recommend. As for me !? On to book number 3, The Atonement!
I read this book in 3 1/2 hours. It was the equivalent of saying, “I’ll have just a few chips,” and before you know it the whole bag is gone.
This is the sequel to her book, The Arrangement, which blew my mind. Ainsley and Peter have it all; three lovely children, great jobs, beautiful house; but there are secrets. Dark secrets. How long can they stay hidden?
Enter The Amendment. I’m always leery of sequels but I devoured this and it left me with my jaw wide open (under my mask) in the middle of a volleyball tournament. How can these secrets get even darker? Well, you’ll have to pre-order this one or wait until Feb 1 to find out. Absolutely, positively one of my most twisted thriller read to date!!
My wish has been granted! After reading The Arrangement, I was left wanting more and hoping the thriller queen herself would give us thriller addicts a sequel. 🤩
I devoured this book in one sitting. I wanted to stretch it out and savor but it was just too good! 😱
I'm thoroughly impressed at the maze of madness Kiersten Modglin has created! Terrifically Twisted! 🤯🤯
This is possibly the most disturbing, jaw-dropping, dark book I have ever read!! And I thought Kiersten’s last book The Arrangement was a doozy!! This latest one, The Amendment is even more disturbing!! Holy cow!! You really must read the first book before diving into this one. Wow! Just wow!! I could not put this one down! Lots of twists and turns enough to give you whiplash!! Where oh where does Kiersten come with this “stuff”?
I just couldn't bring myself to read another book about a broad standing by her husband as he date rapes women and murders them because she wants to make their marriage work. Maybe that's just me. I got through The Agreement but this was just a no go. Read maybe 30% and scrolled to the end to see what happened and called it a day.
I have not been the biggest fan of this author but she really stepped it up with this one. One of those thrillers that is fun, crazy and easily consumed.
