Robots, Robots Everywhere!

Rate this book
Ruby Palmer is still stuck on a planet of alien robots. But she's made a discovery that means, more than ever, she needs to get home.

But the robots want her to stay. She's already helped them beyond their wildest imagination, but they need a human programmer who can correct the unknown errors no algorithm can predict. Some of them will do just about anything to keep her there. Others don't want her interfering lest she uncover their secrets.

If Ruby doesn’t get home, people will die. But if she leaves, the robots will certainly continue to malfunction. Can she convince these crazy foolish robots that getting her home is the solution to both their problems?

Ruby’s still stuck on Location Zero, the robot planet, where things aren’t quite normal.

Ok

There is something profoundly intriguing about this series. But unfortunately it isn't high quality writing. The ideas are cool. The execution is a bit suboptimal. But I'll try one more time with the next installment

I can’t explain why Mignogna’s robot world draws me in so completely. It might be the delightfully naive nature of the robots that gives them a non-threatening presence. They are like dogs or cats, but they talk and reason and struggle with English idioms.

The first book, Crazy Foolish Robots, set the scene in a satisfying way. Ruby storms off from her asteroid station in a huff, which is understandable by anyone who has had the misfortune of being a teenager. She takes up residence - due to kidnapping - on Location Zero, the planet of robots. She helps them solve data storage issues and becomes a celebrity, receiving the accolades and recognition IT people deserve, but don’t dare to dream.

In the second book, Robots Robots Everywhere, we are reacquainted with some of Ruby’s closest friends, such as SD and Disto, and introduced to new ones. The story grows a little darker with the inclusion of a possible adversary and the suspicion of robots who are not so good. There is also the implication of mysterious activities beyond the planet’s star.

Mignogna’s writing is crisp and descriptive. The switches in point-of-view allow the reader to get insight into Ruby’s misunderstandings of the robots as well as the robots’ misunderstandings of Ruby. The robots’ perceptions are particularly entertaining as they try to interpret Ruby’s gestures, behaviors, and strange bio ways.

There is an air of playful existentialism with the robots being unsure of their creation and origin. I look forward to where the story goes and how it explores the interactions between the inhabitants of the two star systems. As someone who is cautiously anxious about our own advancements in Artificial Intelligence, I think the Robot Galaxy Series provides hope that our robot overlords will be more like Detailed Historian. And I could really use a Swell Driver.

Another fun, short read in the Robot Galaxy series, book 2 gets a little darker as Ruby and her robot friends discover data corruption that is introducing errors in their programming, and certain influential robots either don’t care or are actively preventing correction. Meanwhile, Ruby needs to get home to warn her people about dangerous errors in one of their own software updates. She needs Swell Driver to take her because her own ship is in no shape for the journey, but he isn’t in the best shape himself. Something mysterious is going on in his circuits and he doesn’t know how to tell anyone.

This is an imaginative story that explores questions of intelligence, power, and protest in both robot and human contexts. I really enjoyed all the different kinds of robots (and their wacky names), as well as all the mysteries Ruby and her friends uncover, though not necessarily solve. It’s too easy to just keep turning pages into the next book in the series! I think I’m just reading straight through.

Ruby is still stuck on the planet of the robots. There's some odd things going on like the robots taking her ship completely apart and the realization that there is a LOT of bureaucracy including some aspects of certain robots that seem to be related to some of the more negative human politicians.

She learns that some agencies cannot be trusted and that reprogramming of some robots does take place when they do not seem to toe the official line.

Swell Driver plays a major role in this book. The funny names keep coming like Cheeky Adventurer 919 and Angry Hunter 307.

There also seems to be corruption in some coding and Ruby works to fix it along with a couple of her robot friends. This assumes she will live long enough since there is one robot that wants to reprogram her even though they have never tried to alter a human's body before.

It's really fascinating to see the politics behind robots that shouldn't have politics and how Ruby is able to actually make friends with some of them.
The ending is also really good.

Our heroine Ruby wants desperately to go home to her space station, but is feeling more at home with the robots, who are mostly helpful and friendly and have distinct personalities. She begins to be concerned about inconsistencies showing in the robots and worries that the general programming has become corrupt - an observation shared by a couple of her robot friends. Can she help them access their original memories, with the help of her newly awakened AI cuff Pippa? Is there a conspiracy against her helpful programming, and will her ship be fixed to get her home?? The author does a good job of integrating bits about programming and logical thought so that they don't get in the way of the story, nor does it talk down to the reader, even older ones like me. - I received an advance review copy and freely leave this honest review.

Ruby and her robot pals are back in the 2nd book of Adeena Mignogna's The Robot's Galaxy trilogy. I enjoyed spending time with the gang again. One of the touches of the book, I enjoyed is Ruby adjusting to life where no one else around her is a human but many of (if not all of ) the robots have very human traits. This can be good but often it can lead to issues & misunderstandings. I'm ready for book 3, will Ruby make it home, will she save the day? It's only logical to say yes! Check out the first book and then enjoy this one!

Not Always Clear

I find the storyline intriguing and confusing with alternating regularity throughout this installment. There are new characters, blended in with the existing characters but character development is minimal and sometimes hit or miss. This book ends on a positive note, after a couple chapters of some fairly negative actions, though I may be incorrect since details are scattered.

A new must read

This is well written, good storyline humorous, enjoyable for all. I read book .one and two. Will read the third. I will compare it with Hal Space Jockey and while few comic Sci Fi will be equal to the Hitchhiker's guide, ans this one comes closer than many others, the author I feel has the potential

3.5 stars.

The setting is interesting. The personalities of the robots all kind of feel the same. The plot is low stakes, and any real conflicts get resolved easily.

That said, I enjoy the story. It's good. I just don't think it's great. If you want a lighthearted story about robots you may enjoy this.

This is the review I'm not posting, because I know that your writing, when not in full on textbook mode, is world's better than this. I just have to do a review for StoryOrigin to keep my reviewer status.
Actually, I'm scared I'll do this wrong and it'll show up somewhere in public. :|

Enjoyable sci fi adventure

I still don't know a lot about programming, but I enjoy the robots. This book is more serious than the first one with some bot on bot violence. Ruby is more robot sympathetic but still has a lot to learn.

Stupid robots

Stupid robots just get into everything! Like ants or cockroaches. But if you look close enough you see planing, construction, habitation. Just like us.
Loved this book series. Might make a good game plan for us as well.

Love these books!

So much fun and intrigue. How Humans think is always fascinating to me and to see through the eyes of someone else is refreshing, even if that someone is a robot! Love the robots and Ruby. I want to read more!!

The adventure continues with Ruby finding and fixing software problems. She also helps the good guys and discovers who the bad guys are. A fun read.

Fun, but it appears the next book is more people centered, so I won’t be reading on.
