Princess Tharon and Princess Roswynd were best of friends as pups; now they are enemies and forced to marry each other.
The Kingdom of White Sommer and the Kingdom of Wyndfeld had been united and strong. Princess Tharon of White Sommer grew up with her best friend Princess Roswynd of Wyndfeld, both having vowed to always be together. But it all came crashing down when Tharon’s mother was murdered by Roswynd’s family. The two kingdoms plunged into a dark, bloody war of revenge and hatred. After ten long years at war, the kingdoms agree to a ceasefire, but under the condition of a forced marriage between the two princesses.
Tharon becomes the Prince and Lord Commander of the White Sommer Army and a knight known as the Black Wulf. She has dedicated her life to conquering Wyndfeld and avenging her mother’s murder. Even better, she finally gets to claim Roswynd as her Omega. Now nothing can stop her from having it all.
Roswynd grew up broken and enraged over Tharon’s betrayal of their friendship pact. Now forced to marry Tharon, she is at a loss with her new wife, finding no remnants of her best friend under Tharon’s cold exterior. She gives her wedding vows to Tharon, but she knows their vows are based on lies. She will protect her kingdom from Tharon.
As Tharon and Roswynd play the game, they both discover they must choose between honoring their wedding vows or their vows to their kingdom.
Part 1, The Vows of Marriage, is the first of three parts to the Of Wulf and Wynd novel from The Kingdoms of Gyldren series. It includes F/F Omegaverse*, Fantasy Romance, Royalty & Nobility, Enemies-to-Lovers, G!P*, and a cliffhanger. 114,000

Lexa Luthor is an avid writer and reader of the Omegaverse trope especially including F/F pairing. In her books, each main character(s) is a strong-willed female, who navigates difficult situations but always ends up finding love with their mate. Every tale has a twist and is gripping, sexy, and even a bit adventurous.
When not writing, Lexa enjoys binge watching television shows like Game of Thrones, Gentleman Jack, or The L Word. Her other favorite hobbies are playing cornhole, rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, and laying around the pool in the summer. At times, Lexa finds time to read romances (both dark and fluffy) and great sci-fi books but nothing else can beat a steamy, downright erotic F/F romance with biting, knotting, and slightly possessive love.

Amazing. Lexa Luthor has done it again and I'm painfully desperate for the next book! Friendship, turmoil, hot and sexy Alpha, sweet moments, and some not so sweet, plus sooo much intrigue... This absolutely takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions.
Prince Tharon is one hella' sexy Alpha, and I can't wait to read more about her. Roswynd is super sweet and I absolutely felt everything she did. I loved all the side characters as well (except perhaps Saxon, lol). Another excellent story with everything I could have hoped for and more. Can't wait for the next book!!
I don’t know how Luthor does it, but once again this is now a series I’m totally addicted to! Those who follow my reviews know how much I like “The Alpha God” series, which is a sci-fi series, whereas this series is a fantasy series. Both fall in the Omegaverse trope and yes, also this book has G!P content. If you don’t know what either of that is I recommend to check the author’s blog here, because this is not for everybody. If you do like this, you’ll probably already know that Luthor is a force to be reckoned with when talking about f/f Omegaverse.
This is the first part in a trilogy, but it is set in the same universe as “Of Iron and Gold”, which is a prequel. You can start the series here though. It’s a completely separate storyline (so far) and the characters of “Of Iron and Gold” are only briefly mentioned once.
Tharon is a winner of a morally grey character and as you might know, I love a good morally grey character. Tharon and Roswynd were best friends when they were young. Both their families were close and they more or less grew up together until Tharon’s mother was murdered, supposedly by Roswynd’s family. Anger and revenge plunges both kingdoms in a never-ending war with Tharon as the ruthless Lord Commander of the White Sommer army. She’s full of hatred with Roswynd’s family as the main target. Roswynd doesn’t recognize her sweet friend in the Lord Commander anymore and doesn’t want anything to do with the alpha that once broke her heart. To both their horror, Tharon and Roswynd are forced into a political marriage. Normally, I don’t give such a long description of the storyline, but this is necessary to understand the complexity of these characters. Tharon is consumed by hatred and doesn’t want love or even friendship, but deep down she can’t give up her former friend. And Roswynd, who keeps hoping to find a spark of her former friend and is torn between loyalty and love. There are so many conflicted emotions, and no easy way out it seems. There are definitely no quick I love yous here, maybe we get them someday;)
This book really sets the stage for more to come. A large part consists of flashbacks (and I surprisingly liked them, which I generally don’t) of Roswynd’s and Tharon’s youth. Slowly their story unfolds and shows how things end up the way they are. Even now, with their marriage in place, which is really a farce, the war is not finished and everybody knows it. Tharon is a character you want to hate but the more you get to know about her the more you understand her and well, maybe even like her a bit? …. sometimes. Roswynd is fierce and easy to like from the start. Their romance is really only starting in this book and I like that, it gives so much room for more character development in books to come and it’s something to look forward to.
As usual this book ends on a cliffhanger and this one is particularly *pull your hair out* bad, or good, depends how you look at it. I think it’s criminal, now I have to wait to see what happens. Anyway, this was the book I needed! Highly recommended.
Loved it. As someone who loves and is obsessed with wolves, I'm totally digging the whole Alpha, Omega and Beta dynamics. It's so natural in wolves and seen in their behaviours. I can only imagine how strong someone's will has to be to try and control such an overpowering animalistic part of themselves.
I love Tharon's strength and gentleness, I love Roswynd's compassion and her own strength. The two mains really were made for one another and it showed throughout the book... even as enemies.
I cannot wait to read more from the series.

Featured presentation: Of Wulf and Wynd, Part 1 – The Vows of Marriage by Lexa Luthor
To have and to hold is just the beginning…
Cast: Prince Tharon of White Sommer: the Black Wulf and Lord Commander of the kingdom’s army. Princess Roswynd of Wyndfeld: the eldest daughter of the house of Arrington and fiercely loyal to her family.
The Plot: The friendship between Princess Tharon (later Prince Tharon) and Princess Roswynd was abruptly ended years ago after the kingdom of White Sommer accused the house of Arrington of murdering Tharon’s mother. A union between Tharon and Roswynd is suggested as a peace treaty in the resulting war. These two were once best of friends, but can the strangers they’ve become forge a marriage?
The blazing: The main characters! Both Tharon and Roswynd jump off the page – neither of them are perfect (or even likable most of the time). As we venture deeper into their history as told by flashbacks, we get a clear picture of how they became the women they are at present.
Ms Luthor bravely strides into the turbulent waters of sex, gender and the full spectrum in between for both. Often writers overcome these obstacles in Fantasy (and Sci-fi) by making it the norm. Instead, Ms Luthor added realism by making it an important stumbling block, especially during Tharon’s formative years.
The bright: The secondary characters (the royal families and guards) add depth to the story as well as enhance the main characters. They are subtle, but not stifled.
I really liked the world building! We didn’t see too much of it, but the two kingdoms felt real. Whether they are hunting, traveling, at a ball or just lounging around, the reader is there with them…
The bleak: This is the beginning of a three part series and the ending thoroughly leaves the reader wanting more!!! (This might just be me feeling sorry for myself that I have to wait…)
The burned-to-ashes: Nothing.
And then The Plot Thickens into political intrigue sweetened by the interspersed flashbacks of Tharon and Roswynd as pups. We see the broken adults they’ve become while we yearn for their innocent friendship to be restored and grow into a loving marriage.
The Vows of Marriage sets the stage for greatness to come in the follow up books in the series!

5 stars - Lexa Luthor just keeps getting better and better with every book.
While this book has flashbacks and I’m usually not a fan , it works perfectly to build the drama and tension as each time line escalates to its dramatic point. I really loved both characters so much and your heart just breaks more and more as you see their young friendship/bond and love forming knowing that something terrible happens that causes their families and kingdoms to go to war.
Be prepared for the now classic Lexa Luthor cliffhanger but I don’t even care this book was excellent and can’t wait to read the next one.
Another excellent read from Lexa Luthor. I’m absolutely in love with Tharon and Ros. Their early friendship is a beautiful thing and their harsh separation really pulls on the heartstrings. The part at the end with Tharon having to give her father the bracelet and visiting her mothers grave had me in tears. I love the complexity of the two characters as well. Both are trying to help the families win a war that has been raging for 10 years, but underneath the duty to family and kingdom is a love that has been separated for years and is dying to reconnect and come together again. They both have changed from what the other knew as kids but the love deep inside is still there waiting for the moment it can come out a flourish between them. I’m desperately waiting the announcement for book two. I can’t wait to see what comes next for these two, their families, and their kingdoms.

If you're looking for a fantasy sweet romance then look again. This story switches back and forth from the past and present from when Tharon and Roswynd were pups to when they are adults. The friendship that grew as the years went by was definitely sweet and tender, but after the crimes were committed, they were ripped apart painfully. Their reunion was less than desirable, but over time and gentle prodding from both of them to each other to remind each other what they once had, their strained relationship started to blossom all over again... and that was sweet.
Luthor has a way of creating these Alpha characters where we already know they'll be gruff and rough, then she flips the script and reveals slivers of a tender soul peeking out from all those heady Alpha pheromones. Luthor can create a visceral reaction within myself when her Alpha characters exert their dominance over their Omega, and Tharon was no different. J.F.C! Tharon was a delectable, tear-my-panties-off, drag my nails, fxck me now, Alpha. If she were human, she would be considered a gentlemen toward Roswynd, but only until Roswynd would taunt or challenge Tharon's Alpha then all I can say is... hold on!
I would consider this book a slow burn even though both characters already knew each other. Switching back and forth between timelines allowed us to see how they were as friends to why they were enemies in the future. It was a marriage in reverse. Luthor created various types of tension all throughout and the sex scenes were exquisite. I particularly enjoyed the educational scenes between Tharon and Roswynd. It showed just how naive Roswynd was toward sex.
I'm counting down the days as to when the next book will be out because to leave it like that is just mean ;)
I was stunned when I learned that there were Omegaverse stories that weren’t fanfiction. It’s one of my favorite types of fanfictions to read, so I was curious. I was introduced to Lexa Luthor. Luckily, I was granted access to an eARC of Of Wulf and Wynd.
This book went beyond my expectations. It has great characters that I can’t wait to read more about, it’s layered with intrigue, and it’s such a slow-burn it’s not even funny. It was a captivating read and I found that I was constantly reading beyond where I meant to stop.
Normally I don’t like books that feel like they take forever to get to the point. With this book, it didn’t really bother me. I don’t know if it’s because I was interested in these characters and their situations, if it’s because I was aware from the beginning that this was a series, or if it’s the two combined. This book takes place over a month and a half or so (at least if I’m reading the calendar right). That’s spread out over approximately 260 pages. But the pages never felt wasted. None of it felt like dragging on for the sake of adding pages or words to the story. Everything felt intentional. The pages were used to develop the characters, explore the past, establish previous relationships. It was purposeful, maybe that’s why it didn’t bother me.
The characters in this book are an interesting topic to talk about. I’m doing my absolute best to avoid spoilers. Our main two characters are Roswynd and Tharon. Both of them are compelling characters. I don’t know if I can say that I like Tharon, she’s a bit intense, but I didn’t dislike her. It’s more of a wary acceptance and understanding. I do hope to spend more time with her to truly understand how she got to this point in her life. Roswynd is a bit easier to like and understand. I found her quite endearing. She was shy, but not subservient (not sure if that’s the right word I’m looking for here).
The most interesting and complex thing, at least to me, is the relationship between Roswynd and Tharon. They used to be friends and now they are enemies. It adds a very interesting dynamic. I actually really enjoyed their interactions with each other, even when things were rough. It was always clear that there were internal battles going on in each of the characters between loving, liking, hating, and needing the other. Even more depth is added when their Alpha and Omega try to nudge them in certain directions.
The only thing that I didn’t really enjoy is that after a while the descriptions became a bit overwhelming for me. It’s definitely a personal thing, especially since I can’t really visualize what I’m reading, but it just meant that it took me longer to read this than I had originally anticipated.
The only regret I have about reading this book as an ARC is that now I have to wait months until I get the next part of it. I want it now. I need to know what happens next.
This was a fascinating read to me. It was a nice slow build-up that allowed quite a bit of time to establish the prior relationship between the two as well as explore their current relationship. The characters were interesting, even the minor ones, even if I didn’t particularly like or agree with them. There were a lot of descriptions that became a bit overwhelming to me, but I still really enjoyed it. This book also has several scenes that I want to be able to visualize and I wish I was a good artist so that I could draw them out.
I knew it would be good but I didn't know it was going to be THIS good. I'm still trying to figure out how to exist post part 1. I love the world, the characters and the story.
Okay….let me scream first because I finished book 1 and are you f..king kidding me, Lexa??!!!! How can you leave me hanging like that?!!!
Screaming done. Wauw!!!!!! I love this book. The chemistry, the writing, the suspense, the story, the not knowing where it is going and still not knowing what really happened. I love this. Oh and the sexy parts are as always in Lexa’s writing hot 🔥🔥🔥. More than 5 stars and take my money for the next one.
What a great start to a new series!! Lexa Luthor is the queen of F/F omegaverse, and this is another great example. Friends to enemies to political marriage to...
I adored Of Iron and Fire - a prequel-ish novel set in the same Gyldren world - and was hoping this would be as good; it was better!!
Princesses Tharon and Roswynd are close until the death (murder?) of Tharon's mother pits their two kingdoms against one another. A decade of war later, Tharon's brother - now King - proposes a truce sealed by the marriage of the two women. While everything has changed, can the two see past the present and resurrect the love they shared in the past or will the heartbreak be all the more painful for the closeness they once shared?!
So good! Need more!!
*I was given an arc by the author in exchange for an honest review.*
Oh where do I even start with this one. This book sucked me in and hooked me. For starters I really enjoyed the characters. Tharon was complicated and her decisions were complicated. This was definitely a classic fantasy with all the political issues that come along with warring kingdoms, but we had the complications of shared history between those two kingdoms. I will say in the start I did not like Tharon, simply for the fact that she was so driven by violence and anger. We follow two timelines, one where Tharon and Roswynd are kids and the present timeline. Over time we learn more about both characters and what as made them the way they are in the present. In the present Tharon is driven by her anger and thirst for revenge. She is hard and cold, very different from the girl we meet in the past timeline.
Roswynd is equally changed by the ten years of war between the two families and losing her best friend. It was really interesting to see her have to navigate seeing Tharon again, when they are married, and be married to her former best friend. Watching the two of them navigate that situation was infuriating in the best way. I wanted to scream at them for not just talking to each other. I think it was nice that there were two timelines and we got some context on the relationship between Tharon and Roswynd. I personally enjoyed the present timeline better but that’s mostly because I was desperate to know what would happen next. I did, however, like seeing how the two grew and changed and how their relationship to each other changed. It helped in understanding the dynamic between them.
Okay, without spoilers I just have to mention the ending, because that cliffhanger! I mean… I’m dying to know what happens next! I honestly, didn’t expect the story to go that way. I had an idea that things would hit the fan, simply because the whole reason for their marriage and their motivations meant it was bound to happen, but I did not expect what would unfold and it made me nearly scream that I couldn’t just keep reading. Needless to say, I am going to be desperately waiting for part 2.
are lesbian fantasy series with butches i fall for going to be my thing this year? it seems so…
okay i’m not going to lie, i didn’t expect this to be very good. i assumed it was going to be one of those kinda wish fulfillment stories that are fun to read but not necessarily peak literature or anything. and i’m happy to report that this book is absolute fun to read but it’s also very well written too. i’ve always preferred the politics rather than magic and whatnot in fantasy stories and while this isn’t game of thrones or my favourite series — the captive prince. it still has that political intrigue to it, being that the driving force of the story is the political marriage between the two main characters.
speaking of the two main characters, i love them! they were fully formed with their own personalities and backstories separate from each other and their childhood love was believable. i genuinely felt for them. tharon can hit me up anytime, i’m free everyday xx. there isn’t much to say about the other characters but nobody was awful to read, even if i didn’t necessarily love all the characters.
the cliffhanger ending was a gag im not gonna lie like you definitely got me hooked (already downloaded the second book lmao)! very happy i picked this series up 💕
Wow. This book was absolutely unlike any friends to enemies to lovers book I’ve read. While it was over 450 pages, I couldn’t read it fast enough and as I saw I was getting closer to the end I was completely dreading it. All of the feelings between the MCs were so strong, you truly felt what they felt. The cliffhanger at the end… I expected it since I’d seen that was going to be the case which is why I read this so close to part 2 coming out, but now I should’ve waited a couple more because I don’t know how I’m going to make it these next few days.
I've just realised that Of Iron and Gold, a book I absolutely adored when I read it, is part of this series (albeit book '0.5'). Although this is only my second omegaverse read, I find the genre compelling and I think that's due to Lexa Luthor's writing.
Of Wulf and Wynd is a long read at 475 pages. Regardless, I flew through it as though I was reading a novella. It's such an easy, compelling read. The pace is quick as there is a lot happening in this book, with lots of characters and flashbacks to the princess' childhood. I loved the world building, as well as the two kingdoms and our very different princesses. Their relationship development was enthralling to follow. Also, Lexa Luthor has to be the queen of heat, as this book packed a punch 🔥🔥🔥.
I think its safe to say I loved this book and I cannot wait until book two.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for a copy of this novel. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
Enjoyable story with abrupt ending but I have the second part so I don't need to wait to get back to the story. Now that I'm more familiar with the omegaverse and am able to focus more on the writing itself, I'm less impressed. It definitely reads amateurish with misused words, repetition of passages, and other stuff you tend to see in fanfic. With as long as this is and the way part one and two are broken up, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a massive fanfic. But I'm connected enough with the characters and plot that I'm okay with it.
It does say at the beginning of the book that there will be no cliffhangers...and if you take that literally it's true...but where the book ends it's just as torture for me to wait for the next one as it is at a real cliffhanger! This story, it‘s characters and the whole world building is once again unique and perfectly written! The quiet and tough main character, Tharon, is a strong Alpha with all the physical assets, in addition to being a She-Alpha. Delicate but stubborn, Roswynd is the right omega for Tharon's Alpha. They have known each other since they were little pups and had the strongest friendship and love for each other. Through a tragic event, these two made-for-friends are separated and become enemies. Both families have been at war for over a decade. Tharon and Roswynd's presence is nowhere near what they envisioned when they meet. It was hard to bear that they hardly spoke to each other for most of this book, but their actions and wordless skirmishes keep you in suspense! I really hope that we don’t have to wait to long for the second book, because my heart is fully with Tharon and Roswynd and hope that they can find and feels for each other like they did as little pups! Absolutely worth reading! As always!
If Lexa Luthor’s The Alpha God Series got me interested in the omegaverse, then The Kingdoms of Gyldren series is the one I could say I’m an omegaverse fan now.
I love everything about this book, the friends-to-enemies-to-lover trope, the political, the longing, the angst, and the steamy!! Lexa Luthor is an incredible storyteller, the worldbuilding of two kingdoms, the slow-burn romance and characters development between Tharon and Roswynd, the story pacing between flashback and present, everything is perfect to me, and I might be willing to do anything to read part 2 of Of Wulf and Wynd right now. The cliffhanger is driving me crazy I can’t wait to read it!
If you are already an omegaverse fan, you got to read this. If you are not but willing to jump out of your comfort zone, I strongly recommend Lexa’s books. You’d feel safe with your fantasy in the whole journey.
Thank you NetGalley and Luthor Publishing for an ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review
I was intrigued to try out a book with the omega trope. Before going into this I knew nothing about it, but the author has a webpage with more information about it. The plot, romance and sex scenes were alright. I didn't like the flashbacks at all, although I understand that they were needed to flesh out the relationship between the main characters and give us some backstory. Altogether it was a good read and I'm glad I tried something new and more out of my comfort zone.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I loved this book! Lexa Luthor has an incredible world building ability and it shines in her latest book as well.
I think Tharon and Roswynd are a great couple who spent their childhood as friends, then to be separated by war between their countries fear they have lost each other. But then they are reunited as adults as part of a peace offering to put a stop to the war.
I really enjoy all the characters, ( maybe not Saxon) he’s on my evil troublemakers list). This is an incredible story that I think everyone will enjoy, I did😁. Tharon is a very hot sword wielding Lord Commander that cares about Roswynd with all that she is. Well I could go on but I’d rather not spoil it for anyone. Highly recommend reading this book. It has a sword wielding Alpha Woman and an incredible Omega MC that is smart, funny, and determined woman. 🔥🔥🔥🔥⚔️⚔️⚔️🗡
If you haven't read this series you're totally missing out!. Lexa's world building is brilliant. Tharon and Roswynd's story is one of my favourites. It's on my Top Best reads for 2023, Top 10 favourite MC list and Lexa is one of my Top 10 authors 👍🏻
A wonderful F/F Omegaverse novel! I don’t know how I am going to be able to wait for the next instalment of this story. Once again Lexa proves herself to be queen of the cliffhanger.
Since I have finished this book a day prior, I am unable to give my attention to anything else. This book ends in such a well written cliffhanger your mind will be thirsty for answers. And honestly, it's the worst. I don't know why the author or the series hasn't got much attention, which it totally deserves, in the fiction genre. One reason probably being, description some explicit g!p content. As for my taste, I was new to g!p when I started reading this. But as I got involved into the storytelling I could barely recognize this being a problem. The author does an excellent job weaving morally grey, complicated, somewhat broody MCs, despicable yet relatable side characters and side by side describing what a decade long war does to a civilization and it's people. I am eagerly waiting for second part of this masterpiece. Five stars all the way.
There is so much intrigue!! As always, Lexa Luthor delivers. So much to day about this new series. I can only say that if you are into fantasy, medieval settings, ice queens and spicy scenes, this is it. Read this book.
