Here, for the first time in trade paper, Cindy Jacobs, bestselling author and recognized leader in the worldwide prayer movement, brings her passionate message to all Christians who struggle with prayer or desire to be more effective prayer warriors. This powerful guide includes questions like "Why does it take so long to receive answers to my prayers?" and "How can I take my prayer life to the next level?" Jacobs addresses these and many more concerns and provides solid biblical answers. Written out of the crucible of her own deep prayer life, Jacobs starts with basic teaching and builds up to in-depth topics, including fasting and spiritual warfare.
I've been a Christian for a wee 7 years and wanted to grow in prayer and intercession. How I wish someone had introduced me to this book sooner! It's a quick read that serves as an excellent and broad survey on prayer. This provided me a framework on how to effectively pray. I walked away with nuggets that I feel like are keys to unlocking in prayer, along with plenty of encouragement to keep at it in faith. Cindy's style is not for everyone. There is both reference to scripture and anecdotes, heavier on the latter. The stories helped make the content relatable and showed me Cindy's heart. These are secrets from a prophet, prayer general, but also of a fellow child of God. To me, this was a warm impartation session around a coffee table, just as she said it would be. It laid the groundwork for Possessing the Gates of the Enemy which is next on my list!
Prayer is our lifeline. The power of God is freely given to us as we converse with the Lord. On our knees we are taller than trees. Why are we settling for the crumbs that drop from our Master's table? He owns the cattle on a thousand hills and is anxious to share it all with us. Plug into His Word, and soar like the angels. Every good and perfect gift comes from God. Seek the kingdom of God. He has plans for us to prosper. After all, Jesus gave His all for us. Our thoughts are not His thoughts, and our ways are not His. We can have all we need if we trust God, and it really shouldn't be so hard to do so.
Is a good read especially if you are giving up on prayers or struggling to pray for some reason. Writer explains why prayer is an important aspect of faith particularly persistent prayer and intercession. She doesn't stop there but continues to explain on how to pray prayers that move, all based on the holy scriptures.
The book made a great start. I was excited. Towards the end of the book she asked a lot of questions but didn't answer them. I don't know the answers or where to find them. Very disappointed. If you know the answers or where to find them, please let me know.
Cindy Jacobs presents powerful case for persistent prayer. She gives tips and hints along the way on how to become a persistent prayer. Along with personal stories from around ministry and family, she helps you to see how these principles work.
This is a quite a good instructional and a beginner (guide) book for new believers on the theme of persistent prayer to getting prayer answered. It’s written in/for simple understandable text with the basic of developing prayer with purpose and passion.
Exhortation and teaching from one of the greatest intercessors of our time! A must read for all Christians, ministers and pastors! We must pray and pray rightly for God’s kingdom to be established on earth!
For a good overview of prayer, this book is a must. It clarifies many types of prayer, and encourages the reader to pray. Read it prayerfully and expectantly.
Cindy Jacobs does well to stir her readers to pray. Chapter 5 on fasting is my favorite. I appreciate her conviction, going so far as to say, "There are certain answers to prayer that we will never see unless we combine prayer with fasting." I am resolved upon reading this book to return to God day after day and make my requests known.
The book elaborates on some basic spiritual truths about prayer with copious references to the Scriptures. It reminds the reader to pray in accordance with the Bible. It reminds the reader that fasting is a powerful prayer tool. The book also makes the claim that we should pray "proclamation prayers", which means that instead of bringing the Christian viewpoint to the attention of world leaders and other decision-makers, we should pray about things that are important to the establishment of the Kingdom of God on earth not only after Christ's Second Coming but right now. Jacobs means putting an end to abortion and other evangelical staples. She says that the news is a report card that allows Christians to see to what extent their prayers have been successful. What is most startling, though, is what Jacobs calls "decreeing", the most notable example of which is changing weather by prayer. I am not saying that it cannot happen. After agreeing with everything else in the book, I was just praying for her to say something more astonishing and the "decreeing" prayer certainly got my attention.
There were a number of helpful insights on prayer in Mrs. Jacobs' book, and I respect her as an intercessor. I was encouraged to see that some of the concepts and terminology which she presented were very similar -- even identical at times -- to what I have heard personally from the Lord through the years.
What I did not like was the emphasis on dominion theology, which I believe swings away from a true perspective of the Kingdom of God. There were a few other odd ideas which showed up along the way, as well.
I did not always feel that her examples made much of a case to prove her points. This suggested to me that the editor had not done well at polishing the book.
The sometimes poor theology plus the editing problems turned me off to what otherwise could have been a more helpful book.
This book has some important content, but it's not only a little bit about persistent prayer. The book also suffers from Jacobs's chatty tone, which, instead of making her ideas accessible, just limits the book. There are too many tangential and unconvincing examples (such as those of her kids or grandkids doing things that don't really prove her points). I'm also disappointed that she uses my least favorite Bible translations, which make scripture-based argument less effective.
So, yeah, good stuff here, and I can imagine some people really getting good things out of this, but it's not for me, and I suspect potential readers would be better off tracking down work by someone like Dutch Sheets.
While I think that this was a good book with some great reminders and tips on how to increase your prayer life I felt like Cindy Jacobs got lost in a lot of endorsement of herself and telling us all of the people she knows. I think it is great that she has written many books and has a lot of influential friends that do great stuff, but that isn't the point of this book. To be completely honest it turned me off a bit. As I did my best to overlook this annoying piece of the writing style I did gather some better tools to put into my prayer life. I would recommend this to a friend that is looking to increase their approach to prayer but probably not a new person to praying.
This book was pretty good. A lot of good fundamentals. I was almost afraid at times that it was going to turn into a 'name it, claim it' type of thing, but it stayed pretty biblical. Some of it seemed a little wordy, but it wasn't too over the top in that respect. Not too bad for a free ebook.
Ever you have ever wondered what to pray about and if God is answering your prayers, you need to read this book. What a prayer life we could have if we took the advice in this book. Miracles could happen.
Everyone's prayer life needs uplifted especially when unanswered prays begins to discourage us. This book encouraged me to continue in pray and to never give up. The book also presented guidelines for a productive prayer life.
Very interesting book I learned alot of new things that I was not aware of in the differences between prayers. That we need to be persistent in our prayers.
I really enjoyed reading this book! It had a lot of great insights as to how we should pray. The only thing I didn't like about it was that there were A LOT of stories that the author used to make points and I thought it was a little excessive. Overall, it was a great read!
