It Came From Space III: The Next Generation

Rate this book
Picking up the pieces after the giant space gator decimated the small town of Ghost Clearing on the semi-remote Picture Island, the locals and all the visitors are far from ready for the chain reaction. Sure, they took care of the gator, but what of the otherworldly DNA seeping into the soil, the water, the bloodstreams?

Can the already battered townsfolk survive another attack, an attack from more than one beast?

Big buildup leading... not sure

George doesn't want to move to California with Carole's friend. He doesn't really want to stay with Carole, either. So, he and Jacy plot. There's dozens of new properties popping up. He can squat until Jacy's family comes back from their cruise. Maybe they'll adopt him? Anyways, he's headed back to Picture Island. The giant gator is gone. It's safe now. Only it isn't. It seems every animal has caught gigantism and has decided to thin the human population determined toove here.

Spoilers ahead.
So, aside from the giant slugs, frogs, spiders, moose, and everything else, we now have a shady corporation run by a mega- who has no value for human life and wants the island as it is. Giant fauna and all. Why? We don't know. Next book maybe. While things start interestingly enough, it's not holding interest. I feel bad for George. I intensely dislike Carole. The reporter starts off as a relatable maternal figure turns predatory and uses George for a story instead of sending him to safety. Jacy, who I didn't realize was 13, 2 years older than George, is already planning their life together. You really don't care about any of the characters. The fauna was interesting but quickly lost luster. I'm going to take a break and see if Titanboa, when it releases, brings back the oomph. Maybe it's because I read them all back to back? We'll see.

This was a 3AM read. I could sleep and I had just finished the second book in the series. And honestly, I was pretty disappointed.

After the giant crocodile attacks, the island known as Picture Island met even more insane shit. Turns out, the alien crocodile brought some radiation from space that affected the wildlife of the island. At least I think so, it wasn't clear why things were happening.

Basically the animals became massive. Like, 20ft tall moose, frogs the size of medium dogs, ants the size of poodles, spiders big enough to hunt people, the works. I thought it would have been a fun creature feature, with a lot of giant animals, versus just the one from the first two books.

But honestly it was just boring. And it ended so abruptly that I still have no idea how things ended up being resolved. It almost feels like the last one or two chapters was accidentally not included when this was published.
