Dashes of Dreams A Modern Fairytale. A Fighter pilot. A Feline Knight. An Amphibious Madman. An Omnipotent Orb. A Perilous Quest. All Existence Hangs In The Balance.
A jet fighter pilot on a search-and-rescue mission encounters an atmospheric anomaly and disappears into a world of mystery and magic, havoc and horror, veracity and valor. The pilot joins forces with a feline knight, an affable oaf, and a plucky elf in a race to stop an amphibious madman from finding a crystalline orb, which has the power to end all existence. The enigmatic climax leaves the reader to ponder whether climate concerns are scientifically valid or simply figments of folly amid dashes of dreams.
This author has done an astounding amount of work for world building, and has spent a lot of time thinking about his story. You can tell this plot and character set matters to him. However, I found that over all this this book was not for me. I had the intention to DNF the book but persevered and finished it regardless of my lack of interest. I found the storyline to be the meandering and full of details that were not pertinent to the storyline. Majority of the encounters and events that happened to the characters, were not nessary and could be removed from the storyline without detracting from what the author was trying to convey to the audience. The writing style bounced from being being written for younger audiences to older audiences (its sentance and word complexity) that gave a disjointed reading pace. The ending was for me the most disappointing part of the book. Outa place cheap and convenient tropes used to close the story in a way that doesn't match the pacing.
This was a really fantastic read. I have high hopes for this author. I loved the main character and all the magic and monsters. The ending was also quite satisfying considering I’m sure there will be more to read in this series.
This book wasn't for me. That DOES NOT mean it wasn't good. It was a VERY clever way to cover a topic like climate change. It's just for an audience a bit younger than me. Four stars for its tackling of a major issue.
A jaw-dropping gem of a book. Mysterious, funny, scary, thought provoking.Complex, endearing characters. Labyrinthine twists. Multi-sensory, exotic settings, fantasy so real that perhaps it truly is. Magical ending full of hope and goodwill.
I felt the book needed more. The main character is not really developed and he just accepts his unusual plight without really questioning the reality of what just happened. The world was interesting but again underdeveloped in my opinion. This kind of fantasy isn't really my cup of tea, but I won it in a GoodReads giveaway and thought I should give it some of a review. Kudos to the author for trying.
The fantasy novel "Dashes of Dreams" begins with some quotes from famous people about climate change. It moves into a page turning story about the plight of a village of kind, gentle people threatened by a powerful and destructive entity. In the end, there is a call to action about the climate crisis threating our own Earth. It a s a gem of a story and a very important message to us as a world.
An interesting world that the author has created. I could see where they were going, but the writing style threw me off quite a bit. The characters could be polished and the storyline more concise.
